I was in downtown for a class all week and Jitters was the only option for coffee. After reading the reviews I was worried that I might need to do without a mocha all week but it turns out that I worried needlessly. First off, I must say to everyone complaining about the quality of service - lighten up. Both women working there were pleasant and polite, and the service was fine. With that out of the way, the environment is superb. High ceilings, dark woods and bricks, and comfortable furniture scattered throughout the space. And the coffee is superb, too. read more

Jitters is top notch in my book! The classic decor and comfy furniture are great, but the Hot Cheesy Roast Beef sandwich, on marble rye, with pasta salad and coffee is amazing! Very polite service - did not encounter the famed "elderly owner". read more

My son and I stopped in at lunch. I had the Veggie sandwich and my (adult) son had the turkey sandwich. The service was terrific.The sandwiches were very good, loaded with fresh veggies. This is a cool coffee shop with great food. Five forks up! read more

Come here often since 'the mean lady' has retired. I have nothing negative to say. Owner/Chef Gina is a nice as they get, and will direct out-of-towners to anything they may be looking for. The smoothies are my favorite! They sandwiches are HUGE, enough to take home, and the atmosphere is great with big comfy couches, and frank Sinatra playing on the stereo. I went for lunch with my daughter today and I must say I was surprised. Having never been there before and a lifelong Joliet resident I had no idea what to expect. I just had a fantastic Chicken Ceaser Salad to go from here! It was made to order and she let me add extra veggies to it! It had a whole sliced chicken breast, fresh grated parmesan cheese. It was so big that I couldn't even finish the whole salad by myself. I will definitely be making this a regular lunch stop!! I should also add that I have had coffee and a pastry from here before too! She brought it out to me on a cute little plate after warming it up. The coffee was fantastic and a good price, as well as the muffin I bought. I would definitely recommend Jitters and tell more people about it! read more

I need to update my review & take away some stars. The food and coffee are good. However, that doesn't make up for rude service.However, I witnessed the older lady scold people for hanging out and using the Wifi after only buying a coffee and for being too loud. They weren't loud at all. I'm afraid they won't be in business much longer with so many people with negative service experiences. The space is very nice, such a shame. I think I will just invest in a Keurig and make sure I have a sandwich packed. I have been giving my business to other places with lesser quality sandwiches. : ( read more

I absolutely love this place! The sandwiches are HUGE and very reasonably priced for what you get (I always get the veggie sandwich with provolone cheese and mayo and it is delicious and piled so high with fresh seasonal vegetables and the olive relish is to die for that you need a fork and knife to eat it). Like the majority of the previous reviewers, our group had a very negative experience. This is entirely based on the rudeness of the older lady behind the cash register. First of all there should have been a sign to say "Please wait to be seated". We were unaware that we could not choose where to sit. We did notice others in the training come in, place their order, seat themselves, and were then told to take another table. Understandably, the place is small, but to be repeatedly told "everyone MUST order something" is also very rude. One of our group brought her own meal as she is on a special restricted diet. She did however order a beverage. She was actually told to never come back, as this was unacceptable. It was also rude to tell someone in line to step aside so that orders for table groups could be taken together. To complicate this, as regulars came in, they were greeted and told to "go right on back". Their tip was tossed into the jar next to the cash register. After paying for our order, change was thrown into a dish on the counter, not handed back to us. As we picked up the change, dirty looks were given. If they expect a tip, it sould be at our discretion, after the meal, not before. When one person stood up to stretch it was assumed we were all thru eating. The older lady came right over and scooped up anything remaining on the table before we could entirely finish. Clearly, this eatery caters only to the regulars that come in and like to pay for the entertainment of rude service given to any newcomer to the establishment. This place does not even rate one star. We will go without before we return. read more

Jitters is a regular stop for me and a friend when we are in Joliet. There isn't another place in Joliet that I look forward to going like I do Jitters. We always get the Muffuletta sandwich, coffee and a desert, but every sandwich and/or salad I've had there has been excellent. Gina is upbeat and sweet, and the service is great. Don't be put off by Mary Anne at the counter...she might seem a bit stern at first, but she really is a softie at heart. The decor is "old Joliet" with the high, tin ceilings, darkly-painted walls, rugs hanging on the walls, an old piano in the corner, comfy overstuffed sofas and chairs, and even a table reserved for playing chess. Local artists display their work there as well. The last time I stopped in, two fellows were sitting up front playing their guitars. They welcome local musicians...where else can you bring your friends and instruments and jam while getting great food and coffee? You never know who might be "performing". If you are looking for the local "flavor" of Joliet, you really cannot do better than Jitters. read more
