we were really thirsty after lunch and decided to duck into jj bean on hastings for a matcha latte with oat milk. first impression? airy, bright, and wonderfully spacious. the big windows flood the café with natural light, and there's plenty of seating whether you're flying solo or catching up with a friend. it's clean, calm, and surprisingly quiet, the kind of place where you can actually hear your own thoughts and hold a proper conversation without competing with background noise. the vibe strikes that sweet spot between modern and cozy. terrazzo tabletops, soft bench seating, comfy chairs, and oversized dome pendant lights that look like they might be made from recycled materials, they honestly reminded me of those soft egg cartons, but in a chic and sustainable way. it feels warm and welcoming without trying too hard. our matcha latte with oat milk was subtle, smooth and earthy, nicely balanced, not too grassy and i skipped adding any sweetener. it was okay for a mid afternoon pick me up, not the most memorable matcha i've had, and the latte art could definitely use a little polish. right at the counter there's a tempting display of baked goods: pastries, muffins, and sweet treats lined up like they're daring you to add "just one more thing." if you're feeling brand loyal, there's also branded jj bean coffee and neate donuts merch, tote bags, mugs, tumblers, toques, ball caps and tshirts, making it easy to leave with more than just caffeine. bonus points for the outdoor patio seating. on a nice day, it's a great spot to linger with a drink and soak up some sun. overall, a lovely little pause in the day. bright space, easygoing atmosphere, and a solid drink. we came in for matcha, but honestly stayed for the vibe. read more

It's a hot day so I ordered a cold drink called Mocha Shiver. Definitely cooling me down with some trickle of ice in a chocolate flavoured cup. The cashiers were very cheerful and joy, quick to serve. It's a nice environment to chill and to wind down after a long day work. read more

Every time I go, the coffee always taste funny to me so I don't recommend going to JG beans and especially the one at Hastings of Madison

I've been seeing a lot of cookie reviews for Fresh St Market and though I had them on my list to try, they were 1. Out of the way, plus when you Google "best cookie to try in Vancouver", reddit unanimously voted for JJ Bean and serendipitously I walked by one today. I wanted the salted caramel but Reddit people voted on the chocolate chip and I went with what the people voted. The people didnt let me down. Soft at the center, hard on the outside, melty chocolate chunks, buttery, messy fingers afterward (thank goodness I took a lot of napkins and a glass of water). Overall, a win. Great coffee spot! I came here one morning the line was 7-8 people long but it moved quickly with 2 cash registers open. I ordered an iced latte and the double smoked bacon & egg breakfast bagel. Order came up quickly. There were plenty of tables available despite being the morning rush. The latte was prefect, not too sweet. The sandwich was exactly what I wanted, nice and toasted. No wonder it's always busy here! This is a very clean and modern coffee shop, so bright with lots of windows and outdoor seating. My favorite thing to buy is the bakery items especially the earl grey scone (apparently it's a seasonal flavor...please make it a regular item!!), the chocolate chip cookie and salted caramel cookie and who can forget the matcha cookie. JJ is one of my favourites for reliably good coffee. I typically get an Americano, and it's flavourful with rich crema foam. They have soy, almond, and oat milk available on the counter for you to pour. Free of charge! Most places charge 75 cents or $1 or more for non-dairy options. I highly recommend the jalapeno cheddar muffin. It tastes like a half flour, half cornmeal mix, with lots of cheese in it. read more

I chose to come here with my family, so I could sit outside, meet with them and enjoy a cup of coffee. I found that JJ Bean here has a big outdoor seating area. It was awesome! I had coffee or latte at other JJ Bean locations. I loved their beverages in general. Before I visited this location, I hoped for the same good experience and having good quality of beverages here as well! The size or interior of this branch is very big! After the pandemic or when the restrictions were lifted, customers could enjoy indoor seating. That would be awesome! I love their interior design. It's very modern, contemporary, white and clean. The outdoor seating areas has got many tables and chairs comparing to other coffee places. That's why I said it was awesome! I ordered latte with soy, milk and almond milk as well as a cup of black coffee and two cheese muffins. All of them were very delicious. Pricing was reasonable considering the good quality, presentation of everything and the environment. I would love to come back here and enjoy dining inside the coffee shop one day. There is lots of street parking right on Hastings or small streets. Don't need to worry about looking for a parking spot. It's still free parking in this neighbourhood and I am hoping city of Burnaby will change the rules and laws here read more

I needed an evening Hot Chocolate, so I tried JJ Bean! This place was a very decent size, so if you wanted to stay there's lots of space. I got mine to go. Atmosphere was nice, bright, and cheerful. I got my hot chocolate to go with no whip cream. It was delicious! Through me back to my childhood with flavour. I really like coming here because of their huge patio, which is perfect for bringing your dog. I recommend trying their croissants as they're baked fresh daily. My fave is their almond croissant, filled with custard. I love their espresso lattes, but decided to try a chai tea latte. JJ Bean is the newest addition to Burnaby Heights! It's got a clean and cozy decor. Natural light coming through large windows and extended seating area at the back for laptop work/conversations. We visited JJ because we like supporting local businesses that continue to stay open during our current situation. They have kept their space clean, have social distancing in place and plexi glass to protect themselves. I think most businesses can follow JJ's footsteps and continue to remain open. I always get a small hot chocolate with almond milk and no whip. It's decent and I appreciate that it isn't as sweet as most hot chocolates are. I enjoyed the giant chocolate chip cookie I got one time. I don't remember it being too sweet, either. JJ seems to really care about my dental health. Love it! read more

This joint is jumping. I live across the street from here and it has been a huge hit since joining the neighbourhood coffee scene. Early in the morning or late at night there is always a few, and sometimes quite a few, coffee affecctionados hanging here. I've even noticed some of the old Starbucks crowd hanging here. We stayed at an AIRBNB near by visiting from the States. So glad we went there!! Everything we had was excellent ! My hubby tried the chorizo wrap and said it was the best chorizo wrap/burrito he's ever eaten and he is Mexican and knows his chorizo! I had THE BEST BRAN muffin ever. My son tried an iced mocha and said it was way better than Starbucks. The service was so friendly. The girls that helped us were sweet, welcoming and patient with us trying to count our Canadian change. I asked for a caffeine free iced tea and the one I had was delicious!! They Took the Caprese sandwich off the menu. Not a wise choice. Never tables to sit at because the customers that asked for a glass of water or a tea, sit for hours on their computers, while the paying customers that order and spend money on special coffees and sandwiches etc have to take out JJ has taken their sign down about limited table and computer use as a courtesy and respect to all customers. A very nice JJ coffee shop. Beat location as they have the nice side patio and lots of seats inside also. I typically go up the street but come here once in a while. The breakfast bagel is my favorite breakfast sandwich around. Coffee is the typical sour hipster style. Which I like but am more of a traditional Italian espresso guy. Quality drop JjBean was always my favourite place and hopefully will be. But, recently visited the one on East Hastings location and quality of my breakfast sandwich and my latte wasn't the great. Bagel was burned and smashed with half of the egg and the bacon on the plate. Latte was too full to carry and way to hot to carry as well. There is some seating inside, limited and spaced for social distancing. I did manage to sit and get some work done, however, gave up my seat out of respect for others so I wasn't hogging, especially since seating is limited during COVID Times. I had a peppermint tea. Great coffee from JJ Bean as always but this has to be the slowest JJ in the city and I've been to a lot of JJ locations. No one in line and it will still take you 10 minutes to get a coffee here - if you're in a hurry, I would suggest going elsewhere. read more

Blaming JJ Bean Corporate and bad policies. Paid for coffee and scone; rushed out with coffee and plain ole forgot about the scone while it was warming up. Finally remembered the next day. Called ahead and explained situation; was told no problem come on in to get it. When I arrived smiling at the great customer service I was SO SO disappointed when I was told yes - the scone was set aside for me but I had to pay for it AGAIN! So essentially JJ Bean committed fraud; they took my money but did not provide the goods. I think I would have been ok if they had said so sorry about the snafu how about we refund you? Or give you a gift certificate in the amount of the scone for next time. But nope they were super willing and okay with taking customer $$ and okay with not providing the good or service. Shame on you JJ Bean. One star is for the employee that took my call and dealt with me she genuinely seemed upset even at her own employer's policy she eventually provided me with a free drink card. I wished she had led with that. Based on other reviews it seems like this particular store has trouble with management. Their patio seating is also perfect for a little afternoon coffee or to come study! The coffee is invariably lukewarm. When asked specifically to make it hot this time they said "Sure" and and didn't do anything serving us the same lukewarm cups. My wife and I both took a single bite of the banana bread and threw it away; possibly an 'off' loaf.
