Such a nice cafe! Came here Saturday May 4 for a small breakfast and coffee. The latte was great! Staff were so friendly, and always had a smile on their face. We brought our baby kittens in a carrier, stayed outside, but the staff noticed it was so chilly outside, they check with the existing customers in the cafe and let us in to have our breakfast. I planned to have a coffee cross the street, however, I was parked my car in front of Continental Coffee house. I would think it should be good for coffee here. The barista is friendly and the atmosphere is good plus outdoor seating available. I liked their display coffee machines - Siphon coffee and coffee roster. I got the banana chocolate bread was moist and good. However, the mocha was mediocre. If Trafiq is too busy, this is another good place for coffee. read more

Stopped by mid week and mid morning. Friendly staff, great service, great coffee along with a corner location to people watch along Main street. They have a large range of desserts and pastries and a great selection of teas and coffee options. There are a lot of coffee houses and pastry options in the area but they appear to have established their loyal customer base so they must be doing something right. read more

I always order their latte, with which I fell in love since my first visit to their Commercial Drive location before this Main St one opened. Good as ever. Just wished it could stay hot longer, as I ordered the extra large today. Friendly service, and wifi works well. It could get cramped sometimes when the place is full. Good coffe, kind staff...but...the girl who constantly sings at the top of her lungs to her terrible music is beyond annoying and enough to quit this place. Have witnessEd people leave because of her obnoxious one woman side show. Also if she has a problem with a customer she will block you from the cafe wifi and I've heard other patrons claim this has happened to them. This is quite the step up from what Salt Spring left behind. The shop is updated and fresh feeling. Same great outdoor space but the interior seating has been replaced with some VERY nice leather chairs and the lighting has been updated to a simple but contemporary look. This location of Continental offers a variety of specialty coffees including the Siphoned method and soon to offer single origin. They even have a sweet little 1lb roaster for the occasional use. Cappuccino is ok. Nice layout, wood floors, white walls , lots of windows to people watch. Outside seating is plentiful. Lots of food choices, the panini looks good. Old school ceiling fans and hanging laugh bulbs give the place character. Staff are friendly and they offer water, either sprat killing or not with the coffee. We stopped by the cafe on Valentine's Day. My husband got a coffee made with the family's own blend and I got a decaf mocha. Beautiful! I also snuck in a mini cannoli because it was so cute and I had never had one before. What a treat! Reg LOVED his coffee which he said was very strong without being too bitter. I was shocked that my mocha was sweetened just enough, that for once I did not have to add sugar. What a beautiful rich mug of mocha. Continental Coffee House is a total treasure and I am thrilled to find out they have a location on Commercial too! I will be checking that location out for sure. read more

The coffee at Continental is great! I buy the breakfast blend beans for home, and love my morning brews. The shop also sells gelato, which I tried for the first time today. I had a scoop of the almond gelato in a waffle cone. It was perfect for this fine mild sunny winter day. It tasted delicious & creamy. I would definitely have another. They also make it a generous scoop for$4. The interior of the shop is modern and inviting. It seems to always have a steady flow of business, which is a positive sign. read more

So on a rainy lackadaisical calm cloudy afternoon. I find myself sitting here ruminating my craziness that is my personal life. Quick polite chat with the barista and order up a matcha latte unsweetened. "What size? How big is the 20oz size?" I ask. She points to the. BIG cup on the counter and my response is "oh! That's too big!" She chuckles and says that's the usual response. When my drink is ready, it's like heavenly matcha here. It's creamy and smooth with that touch of green tea bitterness. Near perfection for my javaless soul. I love the dreamy music playing in the background. The sound of the girls behind the counter chatting all mix to combine a calmness only found in coffee shops like this. Most of the other customers are all quiet, laptops open, reading papers. Keeping to themselves. I like it. Another neat adventure that I would normally do with friend Hilda and peruse the cluttered aisles of antique shops. Just the two of us, calmly window shopping. So I am here, drinking tea, wondering just how many cups of coffee Rory Gilmore would drink in a day. read more

Spacious, informal coffee house that focuses on the basics - nice selection of teas and various espresso drinks. Square tables are a bit high, arranged in an uncramped fashion, and free wireless as is the standard. While I didn't try the food, it appears that they have a selection of dessert squares, strudel delights, and vegan/hemp energy bars. There's also a gelato display which doesn't look half bad. Music is retro 60's rock and not overpowering. You could easily sit down here for a couple hours and just have an intense conversation or write Yelp reviews for an hour, in comfortable silence. read more

I was rather surprised that I had never been in this well reviewed coffee haunt, that is a mere six blocks from my home, seeing as though it serves my life fuel and i'm currently at a four cup a day addiction. Then I realized it's across the street from Trafiq... And their quiche rules my life. But when a cohort requested we meet here for a brainstorming session, I was pleasantly surprised. Like it's predecessor, it has a nice little outdoor seating area with some of the best people watching/procrastination views on good ol' Main. You can sip your coffee and comment on how atrocious it is when pockets are LONGER then cut off shorts, and hang out all willy nilly. The wifi signal is good and the seating is plenty. The life fuel (ie. cappuccino) I had was tasty. They have all the fancy doodads behind their counter that prove they know their s&*t when it comes to a good brew. Really nicely balanced cup. Even a coffe nerd newbie like myself could tell. I have a hollow leg and never ending appetite, so when it comes to baked goods, I still think their neighbour Trafiq is boss on this block. Whenever I come by after a long day, I always order an americano from here and everything gets better from there. Always taken black and sugarfree, the coffee goes down so smoothly with a velvety texture and slight nutty flavour. The staff are really friendly. I forgot what a difference it can make when the person serving you coffee recognizes that you, also, are a person. I stopped in recently on a sticky hot day for an Iced Americano, totally exhausted from running errands. As I thanked the guy and put my change away, he asked if I'd like an iced water in a to-go cup as well. He read my mind!!! This is the kind of thing that makes you feel like a guest rather than just another customer. This spot is my local coffee joint and I frequent it nearly every morning, and spend many Sunday afternoons studying here and hogging up their wifi. I own an espresso machine, but I much rather go here to get my coffee in the morning, and not only for their delicious coconut milk misto (they get bonus points for having coconut milk), but because of the great service I get; I always leave the place with a smile and it's a great start to my morning! P.S... they almond chocolate croissants are to DIE FOR! I'm reluctant to share this as I am usually quite pissed when I find that they are all out. read more

I've been drinking a lot of "5 Bucks" lately and I forgot what great coffee tasted like until I walked back into Continental. Oh my! The smooth americano (with chocolate) didn't need any doctoring and was absolutely delightful. The service is ALWAYS friendly, even with weird coffee orders. :) I'm not a huge fan of the decor but whatever, the coffee is awesome and isn't that why I'm swooning in the middle of their cafe? I am visiting from out of country. I ordered a drink that was just espresso (I did not know) when I asked for a size the lady at the counter almost gawked at me and rudely commented "Oh, if you want something like Starbucks you need to get a Latte." In a voice that was so condescending it burned more than my too hot latte. The latte-- was basic. Paid $5 for a crappy drink and crappy service. First Salt Spring Coffee closed (previous located here), so we started going to Mobius just around the corner. Then they closed, and so I tried Continental, recognizing the name and logo from their Commercial Drive location. After the rustic warmth of the Salt Spring decor, I was not a fan of the Space/Retro look with polished reflective surfaces and white chairs. The tables are small and wobbly and the chairs are an uncomfortably low height compared to the table height. I was working with 2 other friends, and we were crammed onto a single square table due to a minimalistic decor (read: not enough tables). Every time they went to write or type, or even put down their drink, the table wobbled. Drove me batty. Whereas Salt Spring had at least 10 tables, this place had maybe 6 or 7. As for the food/drink and service. *sigh* I miss Salt Spring. The Continental staff member (notice the singular) didn't notice us standing and waiting for service. Then, he preferred to joke around with his friend instead of actually making our drinks. When the drinks were ready, he didn't call them out, just placed it on the bar. The Salt Spring people would notice when you'd sat down, and either call out the drink order, or (if they had time) actually bring it to your table. P.S. I didn't see a water dispenser like Salt Spring had (which I really appreciated). read more

I've been wanting to stop in for coffee here and finally made it happen. The cafe looks cool and industrial, staff was nice and the macarons were tasted. They gave us a cute carafe of water as well (upon request) Unfortunately their coffee, which is their main sales item did not taste good at all. My bf and I each ordered a long espresso expecting a smooth taste where nothing else needed to be added but what we got was bitter with a burnt flavour. One of us actually took the espresso back and the barista was nice enough to make another one but that tasted the same. So it is the coffee. It was very disappointing and needless to say we are not going back there again :( read more

A nice place to go for coffee, I was quite pleased to see them open a second location on Main since I'm rarely on Commercial. They often open at 6:30 am on weekdays which is nice as well for someone who works early. During the summer when on my bicycle I often stop here, the quality is quite good considering they are a bit cheaper than some other hip cafes on Main. Coffee is not the best on Main street, however it is reliably good and depending on the barista I have had some great experiences. 4 stars instead of 5 since I don't find their baked goods so appealing, they are just the usual gluten free bars, macaroons and dry cakes which can't compete with Trafiq's cakes across the street. Best coffee on the drive that isn't one of the old school traditional Italian type (which are great, but different ambiance). Of coffee shops with this feel On the drive- this one has the best coffee. Much less pretentious than some of the others. Their good isn't incredible and their internet is spotty. But I like the feel and that it is also not frequented by hipsters-- or it is... But there are more locals there as well, making it much less pretentious than some of the other coffee shops on the drive. And the staff are similarly more chill. I've been going to Continental on Main St @27th Ave every Saturday & Sunday after Hillcrest Public Swim. Their coffee is just the right strength for my cappuccino. I don't normally buy a muffin at a coffee shop because they tend to be greasy and they leave a weird feeling and taste in your mouth. However, this morning I was very hungry so decided to order their blueberry muffin. I am telling you it was the best blueberry muffin I've ever eaten!!! WOW good on you because I'm a hard customer to mark a store bought baked good with a high mark. Continental on Main Street have the best Blueberry muffin I've ever tasted!!! read more

I didn't want to hate this place because it's my local coffee place and only about 100m from my house. But after having been there a few times, I have to say that I can't go here anymore. When I order a coffee first thing in the morning, I don't need to be spoken to like I'm an idiot by a girl with a feather as an earring. If I ask for a double shot, get told that it comes with a double shot in a condescending manner, only to then get my coffee and it clearly doesn't have a double shot... well it's not a nice start to the day, is it?
