Never again, and I caution you to avoid the mistake we made in trusting them for a move. Ours was a move from the mid-Atlantic to the DFW area. Their sales rep estimated our move at ~14k pounds of stuff, and their truck shows up on move day with ~6k pounds of capacity. The driver literally says to us: "make sure you tell us what's most important, so you have at least some stuff while you're waiting for the second truck". What? Anyway, a second truck shows up-- but it's not a cross-country truck, it's a regional truck, and they load our "overflow" into that truck. Overflow meaning 65+% of our stuff. Well, obviously, you don't go cross-country in a regional truck-- so somewhere in VA they pulled all of the stuff off the truck in a warehouse, and eventually loaded it into a cross country truck. This load/unload happened out of our view, and it resulted in serious destruction of our things. The little stuff you expect to have happen... lampshade here, a glass thing there. But how about the dining room boxes clearly marked FRAGILE? Holy crap! My wife gasped when they arrived in TX, smashed to 1/2 of their volume and with glass pieces literally falling through the cracks of the boxes. This was on the second truck, mind you... which showed up at our TX house 3 days after the first truck (which only had 6k pounds out of 14k). But the joy was only beginning, you see.... because when the second truck driver came into the house, he shook his head and said some third party would be contacting us about our exercise equipment... because they wouldn't be moving it into the house where we wanted it. This was after the sales rep told us they would take it apart and reassemble if necessary, and even asked for pictures of our internal stairways before providing an estimate. So days go by, no third party... exercise equipment occupying the garage (ever try to unpack all of your boxes when your garage is full of exercise equipment?). So I call them... "Oh, we didn't realize we hadn't contacted you yet" was the response... and then the kicker. They want me to pay over $440 for the third party services... NEVER discussed before the second truck arrived. Bait? Meet SWITCH. I said no, J&K pays. J&K said how about 50-50? I said no, J&K's VP of Sales calls and leaves me a lengthy, self-important voicemail telling me I really should have taken his offer and how he is rescinding it. Well, Karma is a b----. I hope by clearly outlining this customer's experience with J&K I will help others avoid the mistake of choosing them for this move. It was just too big for them, they failed. read more

We hired JK for a small out of state move to TX. They were fast, effective and price competitive. I've known of JK Moving for a long time and they have a great reputation. The sales rep was awesome and my move contact, Megan, was great. They knew we were in a rush to receive our items and they were delivered sooner than expected. We recently had JKmoving move us from northern Virginia to San Antonio, Texas. A very pleasant coordinator came to the house to give us an estimate. We explained we had always moved with DoD numerous times with the help of a relocation expert and had never moved without said help. She walked around the house and looked in every room. She then wrote up our estimate. She said if we pack non perishable item we could save "a lot". She also said we could go to get boxes at the JK moving warehouse. (Not quite true - you could go get boxes BUT only 25 at a time IF they had any available but you could purchased boxes from them at very inflated prices) after 3 trips and only 30 boxes we gave up and attained boxes elsewhere. She also said numerous times that she usually over estimates the weight and we should come in decidedly lower so it would be in our best interest to go with a non binding contract. So based on her advise that's what we did. She estimated the packers for our fragile items would take 2 days and use "x" amount of dish packs. We took two days off of work to be there but the packer spent 6 hours packing and used 4 times the dish packs on the estimate costing us and additional @ $1000.00. The next big issue getting a response from the moving office. The person who came out to the house sent us and email with her " supervisors" contact information says she is in our contact. We called repeatedly and always got voicemail and did not get a call back. One email was out of 5 got a response. The day of loading we never received a call back from the same person and they never called with our weight. We had to call repeatedly on the unload day to get someone to call us back before the driver could unload. Because according to the drivers records we came in over 5000 pounds over the estimated weight and in order to unload we had to pay the bill in full. We agreed to pay the original bill and 10% so the truck could be unloaded, the balance to be decided after again another party was spoken too. After two weeks we finally got a call from customer service, we explained in detail how we felt we were grievously misled and because of the lack of communication from their front office (before and after) the move cost us loss of work days and additional cost due to their inadequate estimates of boxes needed and final weight and the advise from their estimator to go with an unblinding contract. The answer from customer service " You signed the contract, the weight is what it is" we will give you $100.00 off the final amount due. We recommend You DO NOT USE JKmoving, based on our experience. We feel like it was almost bait and switch. They get one star because all the packers, loaders, driver and unloaders were excellent. read more

They packed and moved my stuff for a cross country move. Movers were nice, but they broke a lot, and when it came time to make it right, they low balled expensive items by saying they could be repaired when they couldn't be. They put a big chip in a cement table, and said it could be repaired even though the manufacturer said it couldn't be. They broke a leg off my coffee table and wanted to glue it back on. They were very rude when I called to complain. read more

My wife and I recently moved from MD. to N.C. I'm a do it your self guy and I had moved some of our stuff several months ago. However, with closing on the house and relocating 500 miles away, my wife talked me into a professional moving company for the big stuff. I am disappointed in the delivery part of the move. 1) there was no estimate as to when they would arrive. 2) There was no call in advance of delivery. 3) The delivery date was changed the day before the scheduled delivery and without notice to anyone. 4) They showed up at the end of the day after everyone had accommodated their schedules for the entire day. 5) The delivery people refused to deliver to the other two locations after the first delivery. This has been one of the worst moving experiences. I was convinced by the sales manager they would be able to deliver my belongings in a timely manner close to my move in date. They are now giving an estimate 10 days after the provided date. In addition, the movers who came to pack a small one bedroom apartment were there for over 10 hours. DO NOT PAY FOR THE UNPACKING SERVICE, YOU MAY GET THE VERY AGGRESSIVE PERSON THAT ACTED AS IF HE WAS GOING TO ATTACK US!! To start this off, Drew R came to visit me and although JK was a little more expensive than the other 2 I spoke with, but Drew seemed more informative. Everything leading up to the move was great, good communication and updates. The ladies that came to pack us where kind and had consideration for our belongings. The guys that packed up the truck were quick. The negative side is the delivery and unpacking. We didn't have a lot of furniture because this house was getting mostly new. The only truly big piece was my king size mattress. The movers didn't wanna move it upstairs unless I signed a waiver that negates my insurance that you pay extra for, about 600. They wanted to bend it in half, I didn't wanna sign, so they said that they would just leave it here....in the middle of my living room! I had to call Drew, which stated, that's not a reasonable move, so I needed to sign the waiver or move it myself... this information all came to me, after I paid. I finally called the manufacturer and they said it could be bent and if something happened they would work with me to repair or replace. This is not the worst moment. The "unpacking" service that I paid 700 additional for was the equivalent of dumping my boxes on the floor! Nothing was placed neatly, organized, or in the right rooms. When my wife and I confronted the unpacking team the Forman was apologetic, but the guy who unpacked my kitchen and completely covered my 25 feet of counter space and left a 450 dollar mixer in the sink, I think his name was Kroger, was aggressive and was raising his voice to my wife. I asked him to step back, then he did it again and I asked him to leave the room. That lasted for about 2 minutes when he came and was approaching my wife, I stopped him and looked at the forman and in an aggressive voice told him to get him out of my house. He told him to wait in the truck and he went down stairs. 5 minutes later we were completing the contract and he came back in. At this time the Forman apologized again and rushed out. After this all happened I emailed Drew and Shirley P, my move coordinator, and neither replied! read more

We moved from Northern Virginia to South Florida in March 2014 and it was first class all the way. Our driver, James Sanders, is a total professional (JK tractor 370). He hired the loading and unloading crew and both sets of guys were careful, thoughtful and informative. James supervised last minute packing we weren't able to handle with aplomb. We had JK move us from Alexandria to Cleveland this summer, and overall I would say that they are some of the best movers that we have used. I've moved 5 times in the last 10 years. The move coordinator was great to work with and regularly followed up with us throughout the process to make sure that we were satisfied. The packers in VA were very pleasant, professional, efficient and handled our items with care. Unfortunately, we did have some things damaged during our move, but I am pretty sure that the items were damaged during our unloading in Ohio as we had to move our items into temp storage before getting things moved into our new home. I can not say enough good things about this company. From the start to finish they were excellent. planning, communications, explanations, insurance and follow-up. I ALWAYS get several estimates. JK had the best price, but I do not always go with the lowest price. Honesty, a gut feeling, services offered all play a part. They were able to do exactly what we wanted when we wanted it. They sales man answered my questions (questions I had based on conversations with other companies) and did not "bad mouth" the other companies like other sales man did. Then on the day of the move we had 2 amazing gentleman. We have used JK Movers for several commercial and residential moves over the years. Their people are always well trained and polite. Enjoyable to work with. My only concern was the last move from Arlington VA to Vancouver, I was presented the insurance form to complete requesting date of purchase, description, price after the truck was loaded and they were ready to roll. At this point, I'm emotionally and mentally exhausted and no way could I complete that form. I signed off to no insurance because we had never had an issue with any of our previous moves. We were very pleased with JK Moving.They moved us out of a large house and into an even larger house in McLean VA, and we had to end up storing our items with them for a number of months in between. Frankly, their quote came in a good bit higher than the competition, but they persisted in breaking down the costs for us and identifying the holes and omissions in the competitors' proposals. And in the end, JK was up front and accurate and transparent about the costs. And the competitions' numbers started getting fuzzy after follow-up questioning. JK's crew was professional, hard-working, fast, and took great care to protect our house and items. Recently sold home and did major downsizing of contents which set up a very complicated move for the movers. Some rooms moved some didn't. JK was amazing. The consultant Grant ?? gave us helpful advice and simple color coded stickers to help separate items. Allen Randall, the driver was great and his steady approach and control of his crew kept the moving day stress to a minimum. Having had 8 corporate moves overseas and in the USA in the past, we were finally paying for our own move. We were so pleased that Allen kept us up to speed on how the day was going and when he expected to finish. The bill came in at less than the estimate and that, along with the care that the guys all took throughout the day really made this transitional move go so much easier. I know we got cheaper prices from other movers, but JK was worth every penny we spent. Oh and what a nice surprise it was that they called to ask if we needed any empty boxes picked up a few days later...FREE.. They told me they recycle them, which in this area of Washington Metro is another big plus in my books! read more

My experience with JK for a cross country move was mixed. What's great: the same crew loads, moves and delivers your things, there's no "hand-off" midstream. And the team--the people on the crew--were lovely. Professional and nice. (Hats off to Allan and the Virginia crew.) BUT..when the job was estimated, it was low balled. So just before delivery, you're told to pay a much higher amount, or we'll hold your things. The estimate clearly said the moving crew was expected to pack everything, but when the small crew showed up, they hadn't been told that. There weren't nearly enough people, and the job got delayed while they reached out to more colleagues to get the job done. Which pushed part of the job--packing up a small storage room-- to the next day. The truck was 90 minutes late the second day--DC area traffic--and I ended up clearing out my own room with the help of one fellow who arrived on time. One of a pair of chairs arrived irreparably broken, and i needed to wait nearly 60 days before they told me they wouldn't pay the claim because it was just below the deductible. They did trim a bit off the overage because of the miscommunication and the subsequent inconvenience. I think I expected this company to be substantially better than the standard cross country movers--their advertising is convincing--but I'm not sure that was the case. read more

They took their time to make sure everything was well protected, and that I was satisfied with where they placed all of my belongings. Two of the three guys on our crew were great and careful and did top-notch work. But the third seemed to either be on his phone or to be mysteriously gone for nearly half the time. It seems like this lead to a time crunch and I sensed a lot of stress in terms of them getting to their next job. And I think it was that stress that lead to a few things getting scratched and nicked as well as a few raised voices between the guys (two excellent, one a slacker). I have used JK twice in the past year and they have been fantastic both times. The estimate was right on target and each team that worked with me was fabulous and went above and beyond. They were very conscientious about moving my furniture and took great care in wrapping everything. There were no dings on the stairway walls and those can be tricky to navigate! Thank God for JK! Without their understanding and outstanding work, our move could have been a disaster. Having been told by the builder that our new home would be ready by September, we arranged for a packing and moving date accordingly. Between that date and our actual move, we were delayed FOUR TIMES by the builder. JK was terrific in rescheduling the service. When the actual packing date finally arrived, the crew did an outstanding job of carefully wrapping breakables and crating a valuable painting. It was at our destination that we truly realized the value of JK's service. Not a single item was damaged, and everything was carefully and professionally put into place -- even our three flat-screen TV sets! Dear friends of ours moved shortly after we did, and we highly recommended JK to them. They stubbornly listened to a neighbor instead, and their move was disastrous, with lots of breakage -- including some irreplaceable antiques. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend JK again. read more

I used JK Moving at the recommendation of a friend- Louis, my point person was fabulous... everything went very smoothly until it came time for my stuff to arrive. The truck arrived with two folks to help unload- one of which left half way through which resulted in my husband helping to unload the truck. Furthermore, 6 boxes were missing. The nice truck driver was able to locate some of the boxes and delivered them later that night (he felt really bad). I tried following up with JK moving on the deliver debacle (sent emails and called)... no response... I finally just received an email saying items were never found. We opted for the $.60 per pound insurance... DONT DO IT- I feel that since we opted for the cheaper insurance, they did not take care of our belongings and as a result we ended up with missing items, broken items, and a refund of $75 when we are missing needing to replace over $1000 in items... DONT USE THEM! We lost family albums and family keepsakes from people that are no longer with us... these items are floating around somewhere in the USA. read more

If it were possible to give them a negative number, that would be my rating. They lied about what the insurance covered. When I re-read the coverage and called to change the coverage they assured me I had the best coverage for my interstate move. BEST FOR THEM! They damaged antiques and items I had taken perfect care for over 30 years. I was sent a check for $70 which ended up costing thousand to repair.. The owner wouldn't answer the phone. The salesman disappeared the moment he got back in his car with a signed contract. They also said I could pay by check, but suddenly wanted cash before they would unload. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN! JK Moving is as good as it gets. I am former military and have moved around a lot so I have been exposed to several different moving companies and these guys were the best. Now for the why. First off, they were prompt and efficient. They arrived on time and with the right amount of personnel to get our move done in one day. We moved from Loudoun County, VA to Richmond, VA. Our furniture was wrapped and protected during transport but lots of movers are capable of doing that. Here is what really stood out to me about JK. When we arrived in Richmond, JK dropped off a small amount of furniture at our apartment where we are staying temporarily until we find a house. The rest of the furniture went into storage and this is where the problem occurred. In working with the storage company we grossly underestimated the amount of furniture we had so our storage unit appeared to be too small everything still in the truck. I had to prepare to possibly rent a second storage but the crew told me not to worry about it because they felt like they could make the storage work. Well, sure enough they fit everything into the storage and with careful attention to everything going in. I was amazed with the skill and protective measures taken to tightly stack everything into the storage unit. In the end I didn't have to rent another storage unit and I don't have to worry about something being crushed or damaged when we move into our home. read more

The sales person convinced me that they had lots of experience moving pianos. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of listening to him and chose JK to move and store my piano. Never again!! This piano that has been in the family for years came back with a gouge out of the wood that will cost hundreds of dollars to repair. I chose not to purchase the additional insurance because I trusted JK. In the end, they will pay NOTHING to repair the damage because I didn't have the extra insurance. Don't make the same mistake I did. Hire a PROFESSIONAL PIANO mover that will return your piano to you intact. And that doesn't charge extra insurance so that you can get your piano repaired when their carelessness causes it to be damaged. read more

I never write reviews, but I very much appreciate when others do it. Having said that, I feel compelled to write one for this company. This review is long overdue. But as I continue to look around my house and find more and more broken items, I feel that I can't wait any longer to write this review. My family of 4 moved from VA to AZ last April. This was the WORST MOVE EVER! And I have moved a lot (8 interstate moves and two overseas moves). They say their motto is "What Matters Most." When I was working with the sales rep, he said this to me and told me it meant that they will protect all of my goods, but take exceptional care to the one item that matters most to me. I told him that was my 27" Mac computer. I even paid extra ($250) to rent an alligator case for it (waterproof, shockproof, etc). I was SHOCKED when my computer was being carried into my new house wrapped in only a moving blanket and a cardboard box. What??????? The driver decided that he could handle my computer safely enough this way and thought I would appreciate that he saved me money. I'm sorry- you are being paid to drive. You are not being paid to make decisions regarding MY things. I then started to unpack and the amount of broken and damaged items was overwhelming (including gouges in our $4000 desk, $2500 bed, and countless damage to personal items and smaller things). But the final straw was when I was unpacking a box that contained items from my master bedroom and bathroom. There was McDonald's trash in the box! I was appalled. I don't even eat in my bedroom. What on earth is a packing crew doing eating in my room. The wrappers weren't empty either- yes- I was the lucky recipient of a half-eaten breakfast sandwich that had just sat on a truck for over 2 weeks and with someone else's disgusting germs. To say that it was an awful experience is an understatement. I wouldn't recommend JK Moving and Storage, even if it were the only company in town. They should be ashamed of themselves. read more

JK was a disaster. They tried to charge me $150 an hour for 2 unpackers when they had said there would be 3. Worse yet, the 2 unpackers they sent were extremely rough with our belongings. They broke multiple antique wooden chairs and other china. My girlfriend and I knew shortly after their arrival we were in trouble because they were just throwing things around. The crew was very careful to make sure all the big furniture items were wrapped, they took apart and put back together shelving/beds/etc. All were courteous and friendly. They packed up one house and unpacked the next! We were able to function normally in the new home that very same day! The move was effortless and I would recommend them to anyone. The less stress you have during a big move the better! I would have given 5 stars except that the final cost was about $1000 more than we thought. I am not a customer of JK Moving. However, on the evening of 26 February 2016, I witnessed a JK Moving Commercial Services moving truck 278, VA license plate 27-879 HA (US DOT 1065394, ICC MC 196957, VIN 7H390537) jump the sidewalk at a high rate of speed in front of 7-Eleven store at the corner of Wisconsin Ave N.W. and O St. N.W, Washington, D.C., while attempting to park, hitting the passenger side rear wheels against the concrete storm drain pad, causing it to shift while breaking surrounding bricks, and launching a manhole cover in the air as it landed 10 feet away. The operator of said vehicle nonchalantly proceeded to purchase a snack at the convenience store. As a pedestrian at the time of the incident, I asked the driver whether he realized that he was involved in a single vehicle collision with property damage, and recommended that he addresses the exposed storm drain and a manhole cover on a busy street. Mr. J. Rod-uez (as indicated by uniform name tag), the operator of truck 278, was visibly frustrated and displayed the highest level of corporate training by telling me to mind my own business in a not-so-polite manner worded as a verbal threat, at which point I discontinued contact with the said individual and documented the photographic evidence as he left the scene of a single vehicle accident. DC non-emergency line was called to report leaving the scene of a single vehicle collision, curb damage and exposed storm drain with no manhole cover. While I suspect no action will be taken by the company, I recommend you consider the unprofessional, unethical, and mildly thuggish behavior of the representative of the company, inadequate driver training, and complete disregard for city property and pedestrian safety. And based on the other reviews on this page, it appears that the business ethics and customer satisfaction is not much better. read more

I had JK do a move for me for the second time. Just like the first time, they were very professional, very polite and respectful. They did an excellent job with my antiques and protected them well. The office called me in advance of the move to ensure everything was set, and then called me half way through the actual move to make sure it was going well. I agree with the other reviewers who cringe over giving this moving company even 1 star! They lie and will tell you anything to get you to book, i.e., that they use only experienced movers, averaging 10 yrs experience; that their employees are trustworthy; that you can trust JK Moving to do a good job for you. BS! Don't believe this company! They sent over 3 men: 1 barely spoke english; the second could comprehend only a handful of words; and the last had no comprehension what-so-ever. My 2 daughters and I could have moved more efficiently than these 3 workers. They STOLE my valuable purses! And the company walks away, receiving their full payment, with no liability, after LYING through their teeth to get the booking. RUN from this company, or if you use them, get everything in writing. Military move in July and these were the worst packers and movers ever. I have spent my entire life either in the military or the dependent of someone in the military. I have moved every 1-3 years since birth. JK packing and moving has been the worst company the government has ever sent out to my home to pack and move my belongings. The first day they came to pack and 3 women showed up. Two of them could not understand English at all. The other had an attitude right from the start. Tons of items were left out and I asked them to pack them. Many of these things need to be packed because they would be damaged otherwise. The girl kept telling me they weren't allowed to pack them and I said I didn't care, its my stuff and I want it pack. She said she would have to call her super and left the house, only to come back and say he said NO. So I called the rep from the base who came out and told them to pack it. As soon as he left she stopped packing and said "he only said to pack that, that and that. Im not packing the other stuff". well I then called the rep at JK moving named Don Pac (remember that name, he is worthless). I got his voicemail and of course he never called back. These girls also left tons of little items unpacked, items in drawers unpacked that I didn't know about because they shoved boxes against the dresser, and packed tall stuff sticking out of the top of the box. A few small items I had to tell them 3 and 4 times to pack and they hid them so I wouldn't see and so they wouldn't have to pack them. At around 4pm they said they were leaving and left stuff just sitting where it was, without packing. I finally got Don Pac the next day and he said the guys on the truck would bring boxes and pack the stuff. The driver told me they hardly ever bring boxes and its not their job to box, just to load. They had to call JK to have someone bring boxes. They didn't even have mattress boxes and of course the girls from the day before never brought mat. boxes either. They snuck my daughters crib mattress out the door and didn't pack it, just threw it on the truck and I didn't know until the truck was unpacked. All that stuff was sent to storage before we moved in our new house so lord knows what happen to it. When I started unpacking I was in for another shock. The STUPID packers, who were sticklers for what they could and couldnt pack did a piss poor job of packing EVERYTHING. Glass on glass without paper in between, heavy stuff sitting on top of fragile stuff. A collectable football helmet in glass and mirror case not separated and wrapped but left all together and wrapped as a single unit (mirror and glass broken). Missing pieces for items that were all together in my original house. baby items and clothes packed with kitchen items (how that happen I will never know since the stuff was on 2 separate floors and nowhere near each other). I could go on and on but the point is THEIR PACKERS DONT KNOW HOW TO PACK ANYTHING. I always try to watch when they pack but this house was 3 stories and its hard to keep an eye on them when you are by yourself without help. If we ever have another move out of DC and the government hires this company I will firmly demand that they not step foot in my house. I also suggest, if you are military and JK comes to your home, call your military rep and tell them NO. Do not let these people anywhere near your stuff. I have only describe a small bit of the hell I went through. Oh and back to Don Pac. We called him a total of 6 times from the day the packers showed up until we had our appt. for delivery. Not once did he ever call us back. We always had to call him and hope we got him on the phone. His customer service skills are lacking (to put it mildly). JK is wasting money by even employing him. We used JK many times during this move. First, we moved items out of house into pods to sell the house. Then the pods came back for us to figure out what we needed for 6 months into a temporary apartment and what was going into storage until our new house was built. The crew that came to pack the items for storage were OK. They took their time, messed around a bit and bent my husbands front wheel of his good bike. we tipped them, what we thought, generously and watching them from a window they made faces at eachother. The crew that moved us from old house to apartment were kind, thoughtful and personable. We requested that we get the same crew for storage unit to house move but did not. The last move of our storage unit stuff was OK. They were very fast, almost too. They did not pay attention to the bold written description on each box as to where the boxes should go. They crammed the garage with too many boxes, many of which had fragile labels on them. One box was literally crushed on the side. Plus, when they removed the covering to protect the stairs, the top layer of stain/gloss was taken off with the tape. We have a box of broken items, nothing too valuable but still... So, a big difference in crews and moving experiences from one company. read more
