So when I moved to Glendora, I was looking for an authentic Korean Dojang and fortunately I found Soo Bahk Do which not many people have heard about. I was surprised to learn that it's based on an ancient Korean system passed down from the Ku Ko Ryu Dynasty over 2000 years. Therefore, Soo Bahk Do is the oldest known Korean martial art form. The new location over at Covina has ample space, is clean and has a great learning environment. Master George has done a great job with my kids and my friends kids who are between the ages of 5-7. He has a great deal of patience and works really well with this age group to make sure they understand the concepts and forms. We also appreciate how he keeps the traditions while utilizing Korean in his commands and teachings. We have been going for a year now and I can say my kids confidence has increased along with their discipline and self control. The small classes has helped a lot which allows for more individualized guidance and support. Recently my kids went to a karate tournament and it was really a great experience for them. Master George worked tirelessly to ensure they practice their combination forms along with sparing techniques to get enough points to win. Overall I highly recommend sending your kids here :)

Master George cares about his students a lot. If you have ever watched Karate kid, this place is Miyagi Do. Simple, nothing fancy, but good teachings. Give this place a try.

**Kenmex Karate: Where My Boys Became Mini Ninjas!**…read more If you're looking for a place to turn your wild little monkeys into disciplined mini ninjas, look no further than Kenmex Karate in Downey. Sensei Masias is the magical unicorn of martial arts instructors. He took my three boys - yes, THREE - and transformed them from chaos incarnate into focused, respectful, and surprisingly quiet little warriors. Walking into Kenmex Karate, you instantly feel the energy. It's like stepping into a dojo from a Jackie Chan movie, minus the dramatic slow-motion fight scenes (but give my boys a few more months, and who knows?). Sensei Masias has the patience of a saint and the wisdom of a sage, mixed with just the right amount of humor to keep the kids engaged and the parents entertained. My eldest was a skeptic, thinking he'd be the next Bruce Lee after one class. Fast forward a few months, and he's learned the value of hard work and perseverance. My middle child, who previously thought the best defense was to hide behind a couch, now confidently breaks boards (well, okay, thin ones). And the youngest, our resident ball of energy, has found a way to channel his inner Tasmanian Devil into disciplined kata forms. Sensei Masias doesn't just teach karate; he instills life lessons. My boys have learned respect, discipline, and the importance of teamwork. They now bow before meals, greet strangers with a respectful "osu," and can tie their belts faster than they tie their shoes. To all the parents out there considering karate for their kids, do yourself a favor and check out Kenmex Karate. Your sanity will thank you, your kids will flourish, and you'll gain a few laugh lines from Sensei Masias' witty humor. It's a win-win-win. Thank you, Sensei Masias, for turning my rambunctious trio into disciplined young warriors. We are forever grateful (and slightly less stressed). Osu!

The instructors are not only highly skilled martial artists but also outstanding mentors who truly care about each student's growth--both on and off the mat. From a teacher's perspective, I see firsthand how the lessons learned in class--respect, perseverance, and self-control--carry over into academics and social interactions. My child has become more responsible with homework, listens attentively, and shows greater patience when working through challenges. The environment at Quartz Hill Karate is welcoming, structured, and positive. Whether your child is looking to build self-defense skills, improve focus, or simply gain a sense of community, this is the place to be. I highly recommend it to any parent looking for a program that nurtures both physical and personal development!

I have attended other karate establishments, but I have never found anything matching the quality of instruction that I receive here. Master Quinlan teaches practical, useful karate and self-defense and belts are earned, not given. In the last three years, I have seen my kid's confidence in themselves grow tremendously as well as my own, and as a father I am beginning to feel confidence in my children's ability to protect themselves in dangerous situations, even at their age. One of the things I respect most about Master Quinlan is that he holds his students accountable, holds them to high standards, and yet maintains such a good rapport among them. As a high school teacher, I understand the difficulty of being able to maintain both high standards and good relationships, but he does an exceptional job at both. Another thing that I respect about Master Quinlan from the perspective of a teacher, is that, just as a good school teacher differentiates instruction for students with different needs, so does Master Quinlan. I have never seen him refuse any student that wants to learn, but rather meet students where they are with the goal of simply making them better, one step at a time. I would highly recommend Quartz Hill Karate to anyone, young and old.
