Worst meal we've had in a long time. My pulled pork was acceptable but both the mild and hot bbq sauce were hideous. Weird taste. The texas toast also had a weird taste like maybe made with rancid butter. Hubby's polish sausage sandwich could not be bitten off at all. Even with a butter knife he really had a hard time cutting it into pieces. The baked beans weren't very good and tasted like not much more than out of a can but looked much better that it tasted. They also charged us for tap water and added an illegal 3.75% fee onto my debit card. We had to get out of the house today so just took off on a drive. Ended up here and thought we'd bring some JLs home. We got the little smokies with fries. It was 5 after 2 when we got waited on in the drive thru because of COVID. When we pulled in it was 5 til so didn't get the lunch special. The blond girl taking the orders was incredibly rude. We almost drove off. She acted like we were in her way. I've never understood rude people and I don't handle them well. Our food was great tho so we are glad we stayed. JL's Bar-B-Q is the kind of place that is worth driving 45 minutes from Arkansas to eat at. It's my favorite BBQ I've ever had and I have lived in the south for 22 years. The portions are beautiful and the pulled pork is the tastiest I've had. I can drink the mild BBQ sauce it is so good. They keep the sauce warm in crock pots and it is truly amazing. Also, there's no waiting for your food! You step up and order it on the line and get it right there and then. I love this restaurant and had it catered for my rehearsal dinner for my wedding. I asked what are my options on sides since it's my first time coming in here, there's fries and potato wedges. I picked fries and ordered pulled pork. My wife and I had heard numerous great things about JL's from friends from Northeastern Oklahoma. As we were coming through Pryor, we decided to stop for lunch. It is cafeteria style food, and both of us ordered beef brisket (I ordered the dinner portion, she ordered the lunch), with wedges and beans as sides. We went to find a table, and I was shocked by the number of empty tables that had yet to be cleaned yet. We had to go into the back dining room to find a table that was empty and clean. We both chose mild sauce to accompany our brisket. To say I was disappointed with the taste and flavor of the BBQ would be a bit of an understatement. The mild sauce contained an abundance of pepper that left a burn in your throat after you consumed it. The brisket was tasteless and extremely dry. The beans had an odd texture and flavor that threw me off. The potato wedges were decent, but nothing special. I'm a big guy with a big appetite, but I couldn't bring myself to finish my plate. Ok all I need to say is OMG. I will not go back to this place. My husband and I went on a whim because we felt like a drive and well I wish we would have stayed home. JL's was just barely acceptable. I ordered the 2 meat combo and so did my husband. I had the pork and beef and it was terrible. The beef was sliced like roast beef sandwich meat and the pork was soaking in juice. Not like BBQ I am used to. I like smokey meat and this was not even close to tasty. My husband got ribs and sausage and he said the sausage was over cooked and the ribs were just alright. The sides: baked beans tasted out of the can and the meat and flavor they added was not a great combo. The corn on the cob was ok but that is hard to mess up. JL's was recommended to us by several locals, and we made the stop for lunch while driving on highway 69. It's really an easy stop off the highway and you can get in and out in probably 30 minutes. The quantity of food is absurd. I ordered the chicken strip dinner (for lunch) which comes with two sides for only $7.99. I was trying to take full advantage of being in the south, so I chose beans and fried okra as my sides. The helping of okra filled the plate; the helping of beans filled in the gaps; the chicken piled high on top of the sides; and if that wasn't enough, apparently the dinners come with toast, so they piled that on top, too. The meal wouldn't have been complete without the sauces. They have a separate buffet line for the sauces - mild, hot, and sweet & sour. I got all three and it was the best choice I made all day. Those three in addition to the gravy with the chicken had my taste buds dancing. I dipped each bite into a different sauce, and it couldn't have been any better. The okra and beans didn't quite live up to the expectation I had - too much breading on the okra and the beans were too sweet - but that doesn't mean they weren't good and that I wouldn't give them a second try. JL's is definitely the best option if you're traveling through Pryor and want a quick but tasty meal. read more

I had fries and green beans as my sides ~ fries were good but I wasn't crazy about the green beans. They were cooked with beef and I thought they had an odd flavor. The brisket that I had was great, and the beans are a meal to themselves. My partners both enjoyed their food. My reason for the three star rating is "appearance". If you are from a bigger market you may not like the place. There was a collection of stuff out side the restaurant that made the place look dumpy. Just keep driving. Have been wanting to stop and eat here for awhile while on my many trips from TX to MO. I was soooo disappointed. My food was barely edible. The sausage links tasted like cheap hotdogs. The meat was shaved. Im used to sliced bbq beef. I'm also used to meat being sliced in front of you but not here. Shaved bbq beef was taken out of a warmer and dumped on my plate. The meat was tasteless dry and cold. The vegetables were okay. The lemon pie was the only saving part of this meal. I was so disappointed when I ordered the pork plate and they lifted the pulled pork out of a water bath and squeezed the water out before putting on my plate. This was completely tasteless meat. The baked beans looked to be like they had been reheated at least 3 or 4 times before today. I would not give this place a second try. I waited about 5 minutes and my boyfriend had said "excuse me ma'am we would just like to know what we could order" and she ignored him completely and I know she heard him because the lady that was working next to her looked at us and then at her. I got frustrated and left the place leaving my drinks and trays and right when I walked away she started to take the man behind us order. I don't know if she's just racist because my boyfriend is native and obviously doesn't look white or what. But it was really disappointing and all I can say is I will never come back here again.
