I was compelled to write this review even though I did not use their service because of how responsive and helpful they were. We had abatement come in and I was lost as to what to do next. We needed a 1 containment PM air clearance after asbestos removal. JMR messaged with me after office closure to breakdown the process for me and to quote me. We've used JMR to test drywall and popcorn ceilings for asbestos. They're quick, affordable, and professional. I give mad props to Laney (I think she's the office manager) for keeping it real when it comes to questions of concern. She took the time to explain the process, the results, etc. They charge per sample and there's a price chart based on the time frame you need results. You can wait right then and there for an asbestos result but it'll cost you $55 or so. If you're not in a hurry, it's cheaper to wait a few days for the results so keep that in mind. They're located on the 2nd floor of the small two story building. Look for the elevator in the back and that's where you'll find them. We didn't have any issues that day finding parking in their private lot. read more

The company I work uses JMR on a frequent basis. I have had both good and not so good experiences. Most of the experiences have been good but there have been a few instances where our test results were delayed or even lost! We continue to use them for convenience and pricing. Be aware that lead samples need to be in by 2 for next day results. JMR sends out lead samples to an outside lab, I believe to Arizona but I may stand corrected. I can't quite give them more than three stars because of the inconsistency in test turn around times but the are very reasonable priced and convenient. read more

Can't express the relief I felt when I found the drywall I'd been tearing down in my garage did not contain asbestos! I drove the sample to the lab in San Diego and got same day service for $50. They called me within two hours with the good news. They test for all six types of asbestos. The young lady in the front office was very helpful and even got a technician to answer some of my more specific questions. I will definitely use them in the future before beginning any projects involving demolition in my 1950s home. My only suggestions are to make it easier for homeowners to submit samples through the mail by posting info on the website. Also, it seems like a good operation to go paperless, the paper forms and mailing results seems a little outdated, but that's just splitting hairs. Thank you JMR, we'll see you again! read more

This company was recommended to me by my builder...from the initial greeting customer service seemed to be an issue. I wouldn't say rude initially but I would definitely say not very customer service friendly. Results were provided over the phone prior to promise date, which is why they are getting a 2 and not a 1, but after that things just got bad. I was supposed to get the results emailed to me the following Monday, I was told on the previous Friday. I followed up at the end of the week and was told that they probably went to SPAM and that I would get a call after the lab got back from lunch. A week late r I called back to speak with a supervisor whom told me that the results would be mailed the same day which they were, but the promise date was two weeks late, but her justification that the labs had other clients was awful. My experience was the worst. Phone was not answered at 3:55 and both women were very defensive when I mentioned it the next day when I went in. Their price list did not match what their website stated for asbestos testing; website did not mention additional $5.00 charge for using a credit card; they were rude about the size of sample I brought in. So, for testing two layers (one plaster, one drywall) I was charged $80.00 for three-day service. But their idea of three days was for a phone call that gave no details. Request for results was emailed, but impossible to decipher the writing. Inquiry today resulted in an email stating that the report would not be emailed until end of business day-three days from now-for a total of 8 business days. How that is three-day testing, I have no idea. read more

I had to get an asbestos test prior to a flooring install and was referred to JMR Environmental Services. Derek from JMR sent me the results within a few hours after dropping off the old flooring sample for testing. He was especially helpful in the process, provided a list of some contractors for me to contact to remove the asbestos, and came back to do a final test after the asbestos was removed. Their test prices were very reasonable, response times were quick, and their level of expertise gave me confidence that I came to the right place. We hired JMR to perform a whole home inspection on our house in Santee. They worked with our schedule and were very helpful explaining the new laws in San Diego. Rule 1206, which says that no mater what year the building was constructed, it had to be tested prior to renovation or demo. The Field techs that came to our house were very polite and took samples in discrete locations in the house. We got the results quickly and overall we had a great experience working with everyone we talked to. We highly recommend these guys for any project you have for your house. read more

Excellent company. We just moved to SD and I'm currently doing the demo aspect of our renovation. Our house was built in '42 and I've been knocking out plaster walls for the past couple of weeks. I had NO idea that plaster walls could contain asbestos. So, like an idiot, I did almost all of the dust filled demo w/out a mask. Once we learned about the asbestos possibility in plaster/drywall, we decided to get it tested. I took a sample of drywall, plaster, flooring, and flooring glue (mastec) to JMR to get it tested. They have varying pricing options depending on the speed in which you want the test done. I asked for 2 day service and it was $40 per test for asbestos. Here's where they get their 5 stars. In our kitchen, we have 2 layers of vinyl flooring. The top layer looked fine to me and my wife while the bottom layer was very suspect. I cut a piece of the flooring and it stuck together so that I couldn't really separate it. When I got it tested, I explained that I only want the bottom layer of flooring and the glue to be tested so that I could save myself 40 bucks. 2 days later, I got a call from JMR w/ my results. The lady informed me that all of my samples were free and clear of asbestos... BUT that she decided to test the top layer of vinyl because it looked suspect to her (the layer that I asked them not to test to save money). It turns out that the top layer had asbestos!! They didn't charge the extra 40 for the additional test and saved us from a potentially unhealthy situation. You just can't beat that! read more

I used JMR to check asbestos in the popcorn ceiling. The price was fair and the person that came to the site was really helpful. They provided a verbal response in 2 days and report after 6 days. The person in the office Lani was very rude and defensive. She would not provide a receipt and gave Starbucks as an example that they don't provide receipts which is wrong. You have to follow-up to get the report. Overall the price was good, field employee was good, however the office staff is rude and needs customer service training. I wish all businesses were like this one: efficient, super reasonably priced, and providing a great service. Bring in a small sample of what you want tested, and if you are willing to wait a few days for your results, the price is one of the best bargains in town. If you need test results immediately, the price is higher, but still reasonable.The office space is not fancy and there are no shiny objects to lure you in the door. I brought in a sample to their office that came from some old salvage flooring I wanted to reuse. I wanted to be sure the residue on it wasn't asbestos since the house it came out of was built in the 1930's. Dropped the sample off at their office at 2pm and received a call within an hour (good news - no asbestos). The turnaround time was even more appreciated given it was December 28, a time of year when many businesses are closed for the holidays. read more

DO NOT HIRE JMR ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES! If I could leave 0 stars, I would! Their service is absolutely awful! As a licensed Real Estate Broker, I have worked with numerous vendors over the years, but I have never been as offended and shocked by JMR's managerial team. I booked an appointment for a Lead Survey on Friday, April 17th. They requested the Owners to email JMR directly giving permission for them to access the property. This was done immediately and I called JMR right back to confirm they received it. On Thursday, April 23rd, we waited for close to an hour for JMR to arrive. I even called at 8am on the DAY of the appointment to confirm our appointment. After waiting for one hour, I called JMR and was told they had emailed us back on April 17th and asked for payment and since they hadn't received payment, they decided to NOT show up. Their explanation was that they had replied to the Owner's email and asked for payment and no one responded. Why didn't they call or email the person back that had initially made the appointment?! They were fully aware that the Buyers were the ones that had ordered the Lead Survey. The best part, the Manager ended the phone call with "This conversation is over" instead of trying to book another appointment! read more
