And listen, I'm basically a certified alcoholic (just kidding... allegedly), so trust me when I say I know a good drink when I taste one. I've sampled enough lovely liquors in my day to know what's good and what's just overpriced sadness in a glass. Bella is COMMITTED to her craft. She literally told me she studies cocktail recipes day and night. Like... how cute is that? Meanwhile I can barely commit to folding my laundry. Then she proceeds to make me the SMOOTHEST, yummiest espresso martini my tastebuds have ever had the privilege of experiencing. One sip and I was astonished, emotional, slightly turned on, all of the above. This woman has the shake hands of a goddess. I think I fell in love a little bit. Also, shoutout to the super friendly man in the Hawaiian shirt and Bob Ross-style beret. He brought immaculate vibes to the whole place and made the experience even better (for the most part). It sits tucked into the middle of a working shipyard and repair station, perched high on stilts, looking out over the boat canal that cuts toward Clear Lake. Boats nose in nearby. Machinery, water, salt air, and the honest clutter of a place that actually does something surround it. That, to me, is already a good sign. The place still has that new-restaurant sheen on it, but not in a sterile, corporate way. It was busy when we went--boaters, locals, the kind of crowd that usually knows where the good fried things live. There was something about it that reminded me of Outriggers under the bridge: casual, loud enough, coastal, and unpretentious in all the right ways. Now, the food. I ordered the shrimp basket, expecting the usual sad parade of frozen, breaded, food-service mediocrity. That is not what showed up. These were real Gulf Coast shrimp, plump and properly fried, with a batter that tasted homemade--cornmeal, spice, crunch, and restraint. Close to perfect, if we are being honest. And the hush puppies? Dangerous. The kind of side dish that stops being a side dish after the first bite. I could have sat there with a basket of those, a cold Shiner Bock, and called it dinner without complaint. The waitstaff and bar crew were friendly, quick, and seemed genuinely glad to be there, which is not nothing. Food came out fast. The whole experience had the rare pleasure of a place exceeding expectations without trying too hard. I went in unsure what to make of Sammy G's. I left knowing exactly what I thought: I will be back, and probably more often than I should.

It comes with very good mashed potatoes. I don't like most restaurants potatoes, so that's a bonus win. Really enjoyed, would get it again. The beer! They have a really good menu that rotates. They have local craft brews, in addition to your standard domestics. They also have ciders for those that don't fancy a beer. Our last visit I had a Belgian Tripel, and a Pumpkin Stout. Delish!
