Everything seemed newish. Bed however was uncomfortable, quite firm & the pillows were not the best which is unusual. First morning went down for breakfast, instantly noticed the scrambled eggs were at a dangerous temperature, heat level 1 of 10 setting, opened the lid and no steam came out, barely warm. Bacon was almost out, orange juice and coffee empty. This was 1+ hour till closing, there was only 2 customers there, no staff present but a tip jar. Also QR code signs about tipping staff everywhere. Furniture there was uncomfortable and unpractical, more style over substance. Less than an hour later I had an upset stomach. I was out all day and when I returned the room had not been serviced. Next day I skipped breakfast and messaged in the app to please get service. I also noticed that I've made a request two days before checking in for some toiletry items to be delivered, which had not been.. I followed up on that in the app when I got back to the hotel this afternoon thank goodness the room had been serviced in the missing toiletry items were there.

Sunseeker Resort Punta Gorda - Cruise-Like Luxury on the Water…read more Sunseeker is a beautiful, modern resort that truly feels like you're on a cruise ship without ever leaving the dock. The buildings are new, the grounds are immaculate, and the harbor views are stunning. What We Loved * The bellmen and golf cart drivers were outstanding--friendly, welcoming, and always helpful. * The infinity pool is beautiful and offers amazing views of Charlotte Harbor. * We stayed in a spacious, modern villa that was stocked with complimentary snacks, coffee, and sodas. * Stretto Italian Steakhouse was excellent. It's pricey, but the food, atmosphere, and live piano player made it worth the splurge. * The pool food was good, and the service throughout the resort was consistently excellent. Things to Know Before You Go * Entering the pool area felt a bit like going through TSA. Bags are searched, and I even had to remove a banana from my bag, which seemed excessive for a resort. * Outside drinks are not permitted in the pool area. * The Buy One, Get One (B1G1) drink promotion is a bit misleading. It only applies at certain locations and is limited to beer, wine, and well liquor. * Reserved lounge chairs on the 8th-floor pool deck cost $25 each. * During the summer, not all restaurants and shops are open every day. Some restaurants don't reopen until Wednesday, and the ice cream shop closed at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, so it's worth checking seasonal hours in advance. * We ate at The Tiki at Half Cracked and ordered the crawfish shrimp & grits. It came in a tomato-based broth, which was unexpected and made the dish more acidic than we expected. It wasn't our favorite. * Several amenities and entertainment ended earlier than advertised. A number of venues closed early, and one evening the live band finished before its posted end time, which was disappointing. Overall Experience One unexpected bonus of visiting during the week was how peaceful the resort felt. There were plenty of open lounge chairs, the pools weren't crowded, and it was easy to relax. By the weekend, however, the resort became much busier. We couldn't find a pool chair by 12:30 p.m. Overall, Sunseeker is a beautiful destination with a luxury, cruise-like atmosphere, excellent staff, and comfortable accommodations. While some policies, extra fees, seasonal hours, and early closures took away from the experience, we'd still return and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing waterfront getaway.

Overall, we had a wonderful vacation, but there were definitely some highs and lows. Let's start with check in. When we arrived, the lobby looked like the entire state of Florida had decided to check in at the exact same time. The line was LONG, but to their credit, it only took about 25 minutes. Before our stay, I specifically called the resort because my husband has severe allergies and asthma triggered by pet dander. I was assured we'd be placed on a non pet floor. At check in, we reminded the staff again, but unfortunately, we were assigned a room that had very clearly just had a pet in it. Within five seconds of walking inside, my husband's allergies went into overdrive. Thankfully, the front desk was very understanding and immediately moved us to another room, and inside that room he had no issues. However, there were at least six dogs on our floor during our stay, so every walk to and from our room caused his allergies and asthma to flare up. What was really disappointing was finding out at check out that there is actually a pet free tower specifically for guests with allergies. Had we been placed there from the beginning, it likely would have made a huge difference for my husband. Now for the MVP of our trip, Lauren Hill. She is the manager at level blue & she completely turned our experience around. When we booked our hotel stay, I was able to reserve lounge chairs for July 5. At the time, I was told that July 4 would be first come, first served and that reservations would not be accepted because of the holiday. However, when we arrived on July 3, we were told that all of the lounge chairs for July 4 had actually been reserved and were completely sold out. Needless to say, I was frustrated. While ordering drinks at the adult pool, I noticed Lauren helping one of the servers and asked if she was a manager because she was dressed a little differently. Thank goodness I did! She listened, genuinely cared, and somehow worked her magic to secure five lounge chairs for us on July 4. She also told us about the rooftop fire pit reservations for the fireworks, and we were able to book one of those too. Lauren did not just solve problems. She made us feel like valued guests. She is the definition of outstanding customer service, and honestly, if it were not for her, this review would look very different. Sunseeker is incredibly lucky to have her. She deserves every bit of recognition for the way she takes care of guests. The rooftop fireworks experience was a lot of fun. Watching both the fireworks from the adult rooftop should have been the perfect experience. Unfortunately, several people who had not paid for reserved seating decided to stand directly in front of us, completely blocking our view of the county fireworks. It would have been nice if staff had stepped in since many guests had paid for those premium seats. Thankfully, once the resort's own fireworks began, we had an incredible view. The resort absolutely knocked their fireworks show out of the park. It was beautiful! Now...the food. Unfortunately, the food was the biggest disappointment of the trip. I ordered the tuna poke bowl, and the tuna was a grayish brown color that did not exactly inspire confidence. But the real surprise was the two scoops of white rice, which were completely frozen solid. I honestly did not know frozen rice was a thing, but apparently it is. The pizza downstairs was ok. We enjoyed the BBQ Chicken pizza, which was our favorite. The family pool was beautiful and had a great atmosphere. One thing that caught us off guard was the towel policy. The lounge chairs had noticeable mold and mildew stains on them, so I asked for extra towels, . I was told the policy was strictly 1 towel per person. I'm sorry this is luxury Hilton Curio Collection resort, not a holiday inn.. Buy more towels so you can accommodate your guests, or have chair covers like do they upstairs at level blue. Now for the best part. The resort itself is absolutely stunning. The adult only rooftop pool and bar are incredible, the family pool is beautiful, and the rooms are gorgeous with floor to ceiling windows overlooking Charlotte Harbor. Waking up to those water views every morning was pure bliss. Despite a few frustrating moments, we genuinely enjoyed our stay. The beautiful property, amazing pools, incredible fireworks, and exceptional staff made for a memorable Fourth of July weekend. If there is one area Sunseeker could really improve, it is the quality of the food. The resort itself feels like a five star destination, but the dining simply did not match the caliber of the property. Elevating the food experience would take this resort from great to truly exceptional. And one last time, Lauren Hill deserves every bit of recognition she can get. She did not just improve our stay. She saved it!

It was…read morelocated at the southern terminus of railroad service on Florida's west coast, which was provided by the Florida Southern Railway. The hotel was built by Henry Plant who was known for building grand hotels on Florida's east coast like the ones Henry Flagler was building on Floridas east coast. Hotel Punta Gorda was one of 20 grand hotels built in Florida in the 19th century when it opened in January 1888. During it's first season it served over 3,300 guests which was quite the feat considering the area was sparsely populated. The three story building contained 150 rooms all with a view of the waters of Charlotte Harbor. The Queen Anne style included clapboard siding, multi-paned windows, round conical roofed towers and a hipped roof. Not everyone was enamored with the beauty of the hotel. Reporter Mr. Peeples from the Punta Gorda Herald wrote in 1910: "The big unsightly building known as the Hotel Punta Gorda continues to be an eyesore and an incubus to the town and there seems no prospect that it will ever be anything else. ... The huge old hulk standing idle and ugly for nine years past is actually a curse to the community." Located in a remote area of Florida the hotel still had many modern conveniences like gas lighting, electric bells, steam heat and open fireplaces. The grounds were beautifully landscaped with camphor trees and palms. Visitors to the hotel included wealthy and notable snowbirds Thomas Edison, John Wanamaker, W. K. Vanderbilt, and the Samuel Colt family. The hotel declined through the years and closed in 1914. In 1924 Barron Collier purchased the hotel and changed it's name to the Hotel Charlotte Harbor. Over three years and $250,000 he remodeled the hotel and expanded the grounds. He stuccoed the exterior, added a fourth floor private apartments, a fifth floor glassed in ballroom, arches to the porch, a boat basin and a 176 x 80 foot swimming pool. In 1927 two clay tennis courts were put in for famous tennis player Big Bill Tilden who started his career in Punta Gorda and he won a tournament here in 1931. Reopened on January 2, 1927 the hotel flourished again with many famous guests until the Great Depression 5 years later. Upon Colliers death the hotel was sold to G. Floyd Alford in 1944 and he let Martin Fleischman take over the mortgage in 1956. Mr. Fleischman changed the name of the hotel to the Charlotte Harbor Spa and poured money into turning it into a health retreat but it never turned a profit. A fire on August 14, 1959 provided the death knell for the hotel. The fire could be seen or 25 miles and firefighters were called out from three counties. At one point the fire threatened to engulf the rest of the town. By the time the fire was put out there was only a blackened chimney and the twisted metal of the elevators left. The cause of the fire remains a mystery. A dedication ceremony was held on September 9, 2009, at West Marion Avenue for the historical marker. It was paid for by the Charlotte County Historical Center and the City of Punta Gorda. All that is left as a reminder of the hotel is this marker, a downtown mural, and the hotels fountain that sits in Punta Gordas History Park. The land the hotel sat on is currently for sale.

Instantly the room smelt of cigarettes. We looked passed that until we found a molded cigarette stuck to the AC unit with brown liquid around it. The smoke detectors batteries were taken out as well and weren't replaced. The AC is also broken and emitting a foul urine like odor that made me throw up. Staff didn't fix it properly. We can't breathe in this room. The AC air is making my chest, throat and stomach hurt. (Friday February 4th) We went to get some groceries at a near by Publix. Only to come back and realize the mini fridge is broken. Tested the temperature dial and waited, that didn't work. So we pulled the cabinet out thinking it could be a faulty outlet. THEN we found a DISGUSTING NEEDLE. We both instantly felt paranoid and triggered. I went down to the office and spoke to a man named Ken. Told him about the fridge, that our groceries were going bad and that there was a needle. He didn't seem concerned at all. Said someone might be by in the morning to check it out. This all happened at 8:30pm. Seems like still a reasonable time to help a guest make sure their food doesn't go bad. Considering the office is open 24 Hours this was so upsetting. The energy in room 136 and in this entire building is off. Someone was shooting up drugs in our room and there is clear evidence. We couldn't sleep. Such a Haunted feeling. It's Saturday, the morning after. We spoke to the older man who works here, he said Ken just got in and would get a us new room. We packed our things and went back down to the office. I spoke to Ken, he said there is "No Rooms" we are "Fully Booked" then proceeded to argue with me. We've walked around the building and have seen easily 20+ vacant rooms. Seems like the owner doesn't want to help. It's even hard to get towels. They make you feel like a burden for basic necessities. We had booked a long stay here so you'd think we'd be given a thoroughly cleaned room with everything up to date so that we wouldn't have to keep bothering the front desk. Ken was rude to me and I feel discriminated against. I'm writing all of this as a sit here waiting for something to be done. We do not deserve to be treated like this. I'm 19 years old and my brother is 24. We are kind people and not drugged. We shouldn't have to see a needle. How we have been treated is very unprofessional and unpleasant.
