My radiator cap came unscrewed while I was on the parkway and spewed coolant all over my belt and caused me to lose everything. 20 minutes into me waiting for my dad to bring me more coolant and for the truck to cool off a cop stopped to make sure I was okay, he told me I could wait as long as I had to, but to call if I needed a ride into town. 10 minutes after that a tow truck from Julian's Garage pulled up behind me and motions for me to get out (on the parkway at rush hour). I ask him "Hi can I help you?" His response was "Yeah you can get off my parkway". I told him all I did was overheat and I was waiting for my dad to bring me more coolant since almost all of it was gone. He told me that the state police called him to get me off the highway, I asked him what the time limit on being broke down on the parkway was and he said that it didn't matter because I wasn't allowed to leave an abandoned vehicle on the parkway. I asked him if he or the police were going to arrest me for sitting there for another hour while I waited for my dad to bring me coolant, then he told me it was $107 to get off at this exit or double if I refused service then I'd have to pick it up on Monday at the shop. I asked if I called AAA if they'd pay for it, he kept dodging around the question and saying AAA couldn't tow on the parkway, but that wasn't what I was asking. The man harassed me for 45 minutes and tried convincing me that I blew/seized my engine and eventually I was just too tired to argue with him and had AAA give him the okay to tow me to the quick check. He acted surprised when he tried to turn my truck on to get it off the dolly and it started right up and was mad that I didn't give him any tip. My assumption is that he was looking for a quick $107 and hoping I'd pay him in cash rather than AAA.

The owner was nice enough to follow up on the service to get feedback too. I'm not sure of the pricing since my car is still under Mazda's warranty but their service was spotless and professional. They were ready to send out a driver within 30 mins. Unfortunately I was not ready as I needed to have the vehicle moved away from the turnpike through Emergency Services and needed my other family members to come with another vehicle as I had to transfer my personal belongings and family safely. After informing them I was ready, they were still able to have a driver out to me within 30 mins. Since I've never dealt with a impound before in my life, it was pretty annoying. I had two cars impounded in two different locations. One here and one somewhere else. Overall, not happy with the treatment here. The next part I don't understand or maybe the local code is unclear. From what I read, the tow company will tow your car to any location inside the municipality where the car was towed from for no additional fee. Maybe, I don't understand this code but this is the issue I'm having. The other tow company is towing my second car back to my location from a different township at no additional charge. So, why did this place try to charge me additional for this. I'm going to leave this alone. I'm not the expert and wish someone could explain it to me. However, how it was handled when I questioned it was out of control. Telling your customer to file a complaint with the police department shouldn't be your final thought. The business gets an extra star for having their prices displayed in view of his customers. Also, this impound lot is in a flood zone. Reason I know this, I inquired about a property to purchase across the street and flood insurance was required. Also being a resident of south river for 31 years, this area always floods during a bad storm, and/or sometimes with high tides. Even though it's been told to me by the business no cars were ever damaged due to flooding. I wouldn't risk it. Remove your vehicle whenever you get the chance too. Mother nature is unpredictable. Lastly, I've interacted with Fred's towing in the past and I've never had a problem. I don't know if ownership has changed but this will be the last time I use their services for anything.
