They have no clue - about anything. They put a new employee on the fabric cutting table that knows nothing about fabric then don't assist her when there are over 6 people waiting to get fabric cut. Their website says they close at 9 but they really close at 8. They also don't take down their sales signs. Lately, at least 2 transactions with Joann has been very frustrating. 1) online order got lost but was made to wait for weeks before I could get confirmation it was list. How do you lose 10 yards??? 2) reordered but this time chose pick up @ Salinas location. I ordered 12 yards of marine vinyl. When picked up, I waited for someone to come out for curbside no one showed up so I went in. Granted that they were busy but the cashiers were not friendly at all. Plus my 12 yards wasn't even wrapped which they normally have. I asked if they could wrap it, instead she put 3 strip of very flimsy tape which would stick to the vinyl, ugh!!! I don't know about other Joann stores but the Salinas store is awful. It's dark and freezing cold (A/C was on and it was 40 degrees outside). I went in 2/10/23 to return a few things I had ordered online (online customer service is very helpful by the way). Everything was unused except a set of pens that were dried out. The cashier said she needed to call the manager because they don't do returns on used items. So over the loud speaker she calls for a manager for a return on a used item. When the manager came she asked why it took so long to return dried out pens. I explained it had only been 2 weeks since I received my LARGE order that was sent in 5 different shipments. The store isn't super close so I was waiting for my entire order to get to me so I wouldn't have to possibly make multiple trips. After making me feel like a scumbag for 5 minutes, she finally did the return but then said I had to have a store credit because I paid with PayPal. Mind you I had the credit card that is linked to my PayPal account. There are people behind me and at this point I'm super embarrassed. I take my stuff, get out of line and go looking for pens so I can at least exchange them because I need them for an art class I'm teaching. I come back and the same cashier has to call the manager AGAIN. I do the pen exchange but hold onto the rest because at this point I just want to get out of there. I went across the way to Hobby Lobby. I will absolutely NEVER go back to this dirty dark store with the rude manager. read more

Their return policy is absurd. I bought a Singer sewing machine to replace my vintage Kenmore that just crapped out on me. The Singer doesn't work, it is defective right out of the box-it jams up immediately, which I've now learned is a common issue with Singer machines. Joann does not allow sewing machines to be returned despite the massive sign at the registers that says "any item can be returned with a receipt". The manager was nice enough to allow me to exchange it for the same or an upgrade but these assholes still charged me a restocking fee! On a piece of junk that cannot be "restocked". I wanted to upgrade for a brother machine, there are supposed to be 3 in stock at this store but they couldn't find them anywhere and tried to tell me that the one they did have is the same machine just a different color. The machine I want is $169 online, the machine they have is $179 online sale price and $199 original price but in store it is $199 "doorbuster price" according to the sign. How that a doorbuster when the original price is $199? Anyway the 2 machines are different, they aren't the same. So I exchanged for a more expensive singer and instead of doing an exchange and charging me the difference they refunded the original purchase again MINUS A RESTOCKING FEE and then charged me for the replacement machine. I absolutely do not recommend buying a sewing machine from Joann. They will sell you a defective product and you are SOL, can't return it for a refund and IF you are nice they will let you exchange it IF you pay a 25 restocking fee! read more

From what I think about this store is a good store to shop because, there's lots of art supplies for my art.

I've been shopping at JOANN Fabrics and Crafts off and on for many years now. Way back when it was just a fabric store and was called "JoAnne's Fabrics", my mom brought me along here to purchase fabric that she would later turn into dresses and skirts for herself and my sisters. At the time, it was really the only place where you could buy fabric. With the emergence of several competitors, that JOANN's store and many others, shut down due to lack of business. Now here we are present day, and the store has reemerged like "a Phoenix rising from the ashes" and has completely reinvented themselves and their brand! The complete brand overhaul is probably to keep up with the competition. Now at least half of the store includes a craft section providing supplies for hobbyists, artists, and crafters alike. Of course if you are a seamstress and enjoy sewing, this place is undoubtedly the best place to go. However now it is also an arts and crafts supply store, with some home décor items thrown in for good measure. As a jewelry maker I find that their beads section and jewelry making supplies section are surprisingly pretty decent. Now that I think of it, it seems as if the beads are always on sale! I think their ever constant sales and reasonable prices help them stay relevant and allows them to keep up with their competitors. On my very first visit here, I signed up for coupons to be automatically sent to me via text. It seems like I hear from them at least once a week! The coupon I look forward to the most is their 60% off coupon. Not even their competitors will offer a discount that low! A drawback about their coupon program is they discount their big ticket items, high value items, and popular items at the same time that they distribute their coupon promotion. Therefore preventing you from using the coupon on most of their high priced and popular items. It's a sneaky tactic but all arts and crafts stores do this. Coupons are designed to lure you into the store. Once you are in the store they tempt you to purchase more than you intended on purchasing by having other sales and marked down merchandise all happening at the same time! Unfortunately with so few items NOT on sale you can end up not using the coupon at all and/or end up with a cart full of items you really didn't intend on buying in the first place but did because they were on sale! Well I caught on to their scheme! I usually use the coupons on basic crafting essentials that I use all the time, like glue, packing supplies, or jewelry making supplies and other items that are not hugely popular because those are the items that tend to not be on sale as often. It's important to remember that most coupons cannot be combined with any other sales or coupons. Some of their high value items don't even qualify for the coupon program entirely! So be sure to read the fine print before shopping and checking out with your coupon in hand. The biggest bummer is that their instructional magazines and books are never, ever a part of the coupon promotions. Yup, you guessed it: books and magazines are high in price so they are NEVER on sale! I guess they have to earn their money somehow! My favorite section of the store by far is their button section! Every type of button imaginable is available here! Looking for a steampunk inspired cogs button or an octopus button? This is where you can find both! My last visit here I spent several minutes at their button wall because the selection of buttons was so eclectic and vast it can get overwhelming! Their smaller sections are the painting section, baking section, and garden section. The store isn't as large as their competitors but it definitely has its charms. Smaller crowds for one. You can spend about an hour or so at their competitor's store on the other side of town, mostly because you are waiting in a very long line! Here, I hardly have to wait to checkout and if I do it's because no more than one or two people are in front of me. So the smaller crowds is a definite plus. There is also plenty of parking with chain restaurants nearby. You could literally do your shopping and grab a bite to eat all at the same time! I suggest checking out the wall located on the far back right hand side of the store for shelves holding their clearance items. I have found items there that I was intending on purchasing at full price so it's a good idea to check there first. But as mentioned earlier, your coupon is no good with sale or clearance items. This store is your one stop shop for fabric and sundries but if you like arts and crafts, this place is worth checking out! read more

I wish there was a no star review. I never felt so hurtful in my life. I came to do an even exchange on two ribbons today. April 22,2022. Young girl at register was not able too. She then calls another person to come help on mic. I was oh ok she was probably new. Other person arrives and I told her I would like to do an even exchange on two colors of ribbons for other colors. Not sure if she understood me but then she goes on by saying ok you owe this much. I was no it's an even exchange. Not sure if she was store manager but the way she acted made it seemed so. Then she starts talking like no you owe this amount. I was confused how can I owe if it's just an even exchange. She refused to do an even exchange on my ribbons. She wanted me to get money back and then pay full price. Not unless I brought back all ribbons I had brought the other day. I told her really you are going to make me go back home and get the ribbon isn't there a store manager that can help you. She then says I am. I was in shocked she made me go home to get all the ribbons. Came back at 8:45pm and she tells me we are closed now. In my head I was like she ain't doing nothing all workers are just sitting on counter and just talking. My ribbon was not even placed back yet. Luckily I guess she had a little heart. Maybe because she saw me on a dam foot cast. Wish I couldn't walk as fast as she wanted me too. She did exchange she gave me all my money back and then recharges me and it is the same amount. I was so dam confused. I was like in my head. Why why why in the world did she make me go back home and did exchange. Now that I have all the ribbons. They make me sick to my stomach. I don't want them anymore. I have decided to return them back all tomorrow. I don't wish to buy anything from Joann. BRIANNA I hope you are happy. They've got all kinds of fabrics which is very impressive! The thing that really makes me hesitate to go back is the staff. The girl that measured my items kept on joking around talking in her earpiece. She entered things incorrectly into my receipt and didn't understand that she had charged me twice for one fabric. I went to the cashier and looked at me like I was dumb. I didn't let her charge me until she double checked and found the error. I went back because it turned out that I didn't need them, my mom had bought the fabrics she needed. Turns out that the measurements were incorrect and they didn't want to return them for me. I spoke with the manager got it sorted out but the employee had the worst attitude. Once I was doing my transaction the Manager said in Spanish that she needed to talk to the employee next to her about the girl in the back. That is kind of unprofessional! Good luck if you go! Stopped by Jo-Ann's after being foolish enough to go into the nearby WalMart looking for yarn. Was going to to go to Michael's but on a whim stopped here. Am I glad I did! This store is so much better-lit than Michael's, with less clutter. Along with fabric and sewing supplies, there's also beading, painting, scrapbooking, cross stitch/needlepoint flosses and fabrics (a GREAT choice of cross stitch fabrics, by the way!) and lots of yarn! The yarn choice was superior to the picked-over inventory at WalMart, and there were many different yarns on sale. I regret not purchasing more yarn and will go back to buy specific colors to make a selection of cancer awareness scarves, shawls and throws. And--I spent less at JoAnn's than I would have at WalMart (purchased a crochet hook and a skein of worsted yarn). I'll stop here before I wander into Michael's again, especially when looking for yarn and cross stitch supplies. Friendly staff, too, and the store is very clean and organized. read more

When I went to the counter to get my material cut, the clerk just ignored me, then asked what I needed. She just left in the middle of the transaction to talk to a co-worker and then came back with no apology and acted like I was an inconvenience. When I went to the counter to pay , again I was treated like I was interupting her . I gave her my receipt for the material and she told me,"I need the material on the counter". Like I was going to steal it . When she was finished no thank you...I told her "your welcome" and she just looked at me like I was crazy. If I can help it I will go to beverly's in Monterey. HORRIBLE customer service, I shop between, Beverly's, Hobby Lobby and Jo-Ann's, I will take Jo-Ann's off my list, I will not shop here again. I needed supplies for my granddaughter's sewing class, they couldn't even help me, they did not know anything about sewing or supplies, employees were busy talking (gossiping) with each other and laughing not paying any attention to customers. I tried using some coupons the system wouldn't accept one, I asked why she had no answer just stood there clueless, I just paid and wanted out of there, I was not going to push the subject any longer and confuse the employee. I like craft stores but this one falls short in customer service, when you ask about a seasonal item, the staff just points you in a general direction and you're left to find it on your own, and there are no prices on the items not even on the shelf , you just get to the register and take a chance you will want to pay the price. Disappointed, because I'm sure the manager would want staff to be courteous to customers instead of speaking Spanish to each other. Hi I recently purchased a sewing machine in my local Joann's in Salinas, .CA. after 2 weeks I realized in pickup the wrong one. It only embroideres and doesn't sew. I didn't use the machine at all and wanted to exchange it or return it in store. I had my original receipt (paid cash 524.) and machine in its original box. Upon arrival I was not greeted or acknowledged by the only employee Patricia. There were no customers. I asked if I could look around to exchange or return.. She was rude and said I can not return. I told her I have my original receipt. I was hassled and had to argue with her to get my money back and reminded her that the back of the receipt says I can return the item with receipt with no hassle and with a smile. She was irritated and rude. I will not be returning to this store with such horrible customer service. Patricia' s attitude and demeanor was uncalled for. Felt like I was being BULLIED today at Jo-Ann's. I'll be the first to admit that I know very little to nothing when it comes to crafts or fabrics, yet I am in love with them - go figure. When trying to return something today, although they did it, they were hesitant. The woman who was helping me in the back was just plain rude! The women in the front, literally laughed while the gentleman helped me with a return. I was in shock that I couldn't say anything. I was very embarrassed and have little hope to even want to try to do any type of crafting again. I will only return to Joann's in Salinas if I have to get something quickly. I love the store, and their supplies of art, crafts, material and home goods. Today shopping there was a big surprise, by the way I was treated. I was going to purchase a wooden sign that said, "laundry" that was on sale for 75% off. It was on an aisle that was all sale items and wooden things like the sign I was going to purchase. At checkout the lady said it was not on sale, and I asked her to look on the aisle where I found it. There was a large stack of them, under a sign of 75% off. She said it was not the right brand, called "Spring" and was regular price. Another customer said to me, "Yeah, I work in a warehouse and people always move stuff" The sales lady took her side and agreed with her. I commented in a rude way to keep out of my conversation. I asked for a manager, and the lady said , she was the manager. She told me if I got an app and uploaded a coupon she might be able to give me a discount of 25 to 50% off. At the checkout, I said if I was at Macy's or Michael's they would respect the price and I would not have to go through this hassle. The sales lady smiled a nasty smile and told me," Macy's would never do that!" I ask her if she was calling me a liar? I am a Home Designer and have bought many things in Joann's and have never been treated like this.The girls working at the cutting tables have always been helpful and kind. When I was leaving, I told her I can just go on Yelp and leave a review. She just gave me her nasty smile and told me to go ahead.
