For those unfamiliar it's a store that may or may not have what you are looking for but if they do (bread, produce and alcohol aside) the prices are often far more reasonable than the grocery store. My approach when it's grocery time is to first stop at Grocery Outlet, get the items or brands you need that are available and address the delta at a nearby more costly grocery store where you get the remaining items. That combination ensures you are saving more each month as a result. For those things they do carry, the prices are often much less. And on occasion priced too good to be true, when that happens look carefully at the expiry. Even in those moments I am content buying a container of orange juice for half the price even if I know it will expire in two days. More often than not it will not last longer than that anyway. They often have some off the wall brands of things like ice cream but admittedly It was what introduced me to Brave Robot Blue berry pie ice cream and Ample Hills Gooey Butter Cake ice cream. Both absolute knocks out of the park and doubly so with them being $2.50 a container. You may have to scrutinize the price and product but after a while it's second nature and you will be hard pressed to save as much. I imagine this is exponentially better if you have a large family. Lastly, this location specifically, the owners recognize law enforcement and military personnel and will issue you a hard card that can be used for a $3.00 discount on a $35 bill every shopping visit. They also offer periodic receipt coupons for $5.00 on a specific amount. If you plan to shop there anyway it's just an added savings bonus. This may not be for everyone but I for one appreciate it and absolutely love having one 15 mins away. Thank you Grocery Outlet.

I wanted a Pinot Noir and instead of it being grouped together it was all over the place! Some bottles mixed with Cabernet, Malbec and more. Out of the five stores in our area Seaside is most organized and the volume of sales speaks volumes. Marina comes in close then Salinas, haven't been in Prunedale for a while. Being in a region where we have many wineries they should be better!

The store is well maintained, workers are friendly, helpful and they have a great selection of discounted products. I've found a lot of variation in how different Grocery Outlets are run and we feel fortunate the owner does a great job here.

Never know what you find here or what may be priced for an extreme bargain. You find really weird food items that may be curious to try, odd ice cream brands and flavors you'd never see at Safeway or Trader Joe's - sometimes it'll be meh (sleeping aid ice cream that tastes like garlic) and sometimes it'll be incredible (fatboy cookie & cream). Sometimes these odd items will be the best thing you've ever tasted and you'll come back and clear out their inventory. (at least, me) Overall, the fact that selection changes often is why I love this place and come back often. I only go to Safeway for their awesome parfaits and fresh pineapple now, but Grocery Outlet more fun than grocery shopping should be allowed to be.

Now the prices have risen to $2.25. Still a good deal but gee, I thought the brand just raised the prices to $1.75 not too long ago. I recall when I first discovered these stores in the Bay area and prices were $1.25 (and that was for everything!). Things sure have changed. This store is like the typical Daiso Japan. It has a unique collection of Japanese novelties including hair accessories, socks, kitchen ware, electronics, stationary, drinks, candy and more. Disney and Sanrio collaborate to make specific merchandise for these stores. The merchandise I generally find is of amazing quality- I have socks I bought at the stores years ago that still look like new. I have laundry net bags from Daiso that have never worn out. I would say, their items are a slightly better quality than Dollar Tree. However, with Dollar Tree merchandise at mostly $1.25/$1.50, I would prefer Dollar Tree now except for the occasional time that I was something unique and is authentically Japanese for a low price then Daiso would be it. I just do not like this inflation aspect especially with the sudden price rises. I think it would be better if anything to do it more gradual. But then perhaps it is those unjustified US tariffs that affect prices more than anything. Sure prices are still good for $2.25 at Daiso, but when will the prices rise again? How high are they planning to go on pricing till customers stop shopping at these stores? What draws people to Daiso Japan stores is the large selection of various merchadise, that fact that you can buy items that came directly from Japan. I will continue to shop at these stores and am thrilled that there is one in Salinas now. However, as prices rise, I am more discerning about what I will buy. Before, I did a lot of impulse buying when I would shop at these stores but not anymore. I do have my favorite items to shop for - hair accessories (just as good as the Scunci brand items sold at CVS and Walmart but for more than half their prices) and socks. They do have a huge selection too. But then, Dollar Tree has similar merchandise for less. Also, there is one major advantage that Dollar Tree has over Daiso Japan stores now besides prices, Dollar Tree (at least all the ones I have been to) do not have self checkout. I hate self checkout. I prefer to actually have a clerk ring up my merchandise. Self checkout always feels cold and unfriendly. Even then, it can be difficult to match the barcodes with the scanners. But I am a social person by nature and like going to a store where the clerks ring up my merchandise while asking how my day is going or did I find everything I wanted. I do not expect to be chatting with clerks but some communication is nice. It makes me more inclined to want to come back to the store again to shop. Every Daiso Japan store I have been to within the last year including this one is self checkout. However, that is a recent change. They used to have actual clerks at the counters. Perhaps it is a way companies save money as they do not have to hire as many employees anymore with self checkout.

I love this location the Salinas branch at Kohl's does not have the variety and brands I need and even if they did, I really like the customer service of the Del Monte shopping center staff I will always be back. I have been coming here for so many years I can't even count and everybody is always so sweet and friendly, but Susie is the epicenter of friendliness. The store was busy and she was busy but she still asked me if I needed some help. I asked to be color matched and she told me to give her a few minutes. She came back and told me she wasn't a makeup specialist but would do her best. I guess the person whose job this was didn't show or something. I appreciated her willingness to help and was impressed by how well she spoke Spanish. She shared that she wanted to learn and it helps w/the Spanish-speaking customers.
