New to the area and needed a repair on a gold chain. I was charged for a repair and cleaning/polishing. I was told three weeks. Chain was done early I excitedly went to pick it up. When the sales person handed the chain to me I inspected the repair which was poorly soldered, the solder had run down the chain approximately 1/3". and the chain was not cleaned at all. I stated my dissatisfaction with the repair and the cleaning. The person assisting me said it was clean and that is a standard for repair. This chain is very old and I wear it daily it has been repaired several times and there are no other visible repairs. The chain was taken and cleaned in the counter top solvent and they offered to send it back for another repair. I declined to have it sent back and the $65 cleaning fee was refunded. In the end I can say they did the right thing, however the argumentative attitude of the sales person and the overall experience has me leaving this review and will never return to Zales in the future. read more

My husband is a hard working veteran who the older sales ladies were rude and almost beligerrant to. Two of the sales ladies were condescending to him after he had purchases a ring and exchanged a stone, he had been honest and explained he was on a budget. He expected to hear options and get assistance, instead they sneered and him and said "Is this even real?" I expect better from a store and I have used Zales for years but after hearing how horrible they treated him, I will never use them again and you can bet I will tell my family and friends too to not use . I bought my engagement ring and wedding band here on the day of my wedding. In my excitement for the day I didn't see a black piece of carbon that was in the center ring. Two days later I asked if I could exchange it. They said yes but that it would be about four days til the replacement arrived and that they'd call when it got there. A week later I'd not gotten a phone call yet and I was at the Del Monte Center, so I decided to check if it had arrived. It hadn't and the two women in the store seemed very irritated that I'd dropped in, reiterating that they'd call me. Another week passed and again I was already at the mall for Christmas shopping so I dropped in again. I was told they had to order it that day cause it never arrived and that she couldn't give me an arrival time. Again she seemed very irritated that I dropped in and said she'd call me as soon as it was in. After a week, my husband and I stopped in again in the evening and not only was it there already and I'd not gotten a phone call, but it was up for sale in the display case! The same woman who already knew my name by now couldn't even remember which ring it was when she went looking for the ring in the case. First you're irritated that I check every week to see if it's in and now this same person never called me and doesn't even remember which ring it is? The new ring also had a black piece of carbon much larger than the one I had but it wasn't in the center of the diamond like mine was. I was told by another sales person that this is common in a ring of that quality. I'm not a diamond person, but this is my wedding ring so it makes it important to me. Why didn't anyone tell me this was common before? I wouldn't have come in thinking I'd gotten an irregular ring if I'd known that. I'm not even sure they're telling the truth. Overall it's been a terrible experience that's tarnished an experience that should be positively memorable. I do NOT recommend this place. read more

I am writing a review for this store because the previous reviews absolutely doesn't justify them. The sales rep, Joel, made the whole experience very pleasant and easy. We never felt pressured into buying something (we went to the store about 4 times before purchasing). He was very friendly, helpful, and provided excellent service by understanding exactly what we were looking for. After I got tired of wearing my over-sized ring for few days (I was too excited to give up the ring for re-sizing at first, heh. BTW, sales rep provided temporary ring-sizer for free!), I returned the ring to re-size. I was given an estimate of 2.5 weeks to have it back, but after just FIVE DAYS I got a call back notifying me that it's in. WOOT! There were few glitches though.. I bought a certified diamond, but they had to order the certificate for the diamond. I don't quiet understand how that works.. I mean, shouldn't the certificate travel with the diamond, where ever it goes?...... Also, I asked the manager for the past-present-future ring from the Celebration line (after being there for the 2nd time), and she told me that the Celebration Diamond doesn't have that style. I'm not sure if she was lying to make me look for something else because they didn't currently have it, or if she genuinely didn't know.. which is hard to believe because she's the manager. I would just like to inform other unknowing buyers of Zales private collection diamond rings. My fiance and I recently purchased a ring here and sent it in to get re-sized. Upon its return, the employee told me that it didn't pass the quality check and had a stone loose. The ring was sent back to get it fixed and then returned a second time. Again, the ring had multiple stones loose, which was then an indication of the defectiveness of the ring we had purchased. The employee said this wasn't common for rings, and I opted for a full refund (obviously). Not only was this issue a problem for MY ring, it was a defect in all rings of that style, the employee informed my fiance over the phone. I'm not sure why they would continue selling expensive jewelry that clearly won't hold up over time and I just want people to be warned when they're going in expecting a high quality ring with underlying, costly flaws. The ring is item # 20307128. It comes with a card proving its authenticity, which is amusing to me seeing that the ring is literally defective. read more

Don't waste your time. My husband bought me a wedding band from them many years ago along with the warranty. They use to be a good company maybe that's why they are close to bankruptcy. I dropped off my ring on 6/30 for inspection. They said prong need to be replaced. Inital quoted me a charge of $30 then said he would waive it. So today (7/26) I called to see if it was ready. I was told they should receive it any day. Then I got a call back telling me that it was $95 to fix the prong and if I wanted it to be done. I said no and will be taking it to another jeweler. Don't go here you will regret it in the long run. We have done quite a bit of business but you will be better at a different store who doesn't hassle you. We won't go into them turning my ring silver once. That was a hassle to get it back gold and it still doesn't look right. All I got was "we are sorry for the mistake". read more

There was one employee that made me give this place one star not only because he did not greet or acknowledge us, but after waiting a good 20 minutes while he chatted it up and giggled with a couple that had already purchased something, he went to a customer who had come in after us and they purchased something, THEN he finally came up to us and said, "ok, I've ignored you long enough. I bought some earrings and the posts were too short so I had to return them. I was disappointed but brought them back the next day. After making the return I drove home and it occurred to me they never gave me back my original receipt. I called the store, they located it, and I drove right back to retrieve it. I also bought a watch to surprise my husband and after leaving the store, I noticed scratches above the dial but I decided to let it go. I wasn't thrilled with the presentation. The time wasn't set or the date etc. I had it sized down so it would fit my husband on his birthday when he opened it. Unfortunately, when he took it out of the box, it fell apart. They made a mistake when sizing it I guess and the pin on the watch band kept sliding right out. Maybe it was a return and it was damaged. I decided to return it since the receipt said you couldn't make a return after it was worn and I didn't want to take a chance that it was defective. They charged me a "service fee" of $15. I explained that it wasn't worn yet, and she said that it had been sized so a fee must be charged. She also tried to short me over $100 by getting confused reading my past receipt due to the previous return, and didn't apologize when I corrected her. It was extremely uncomfortable. She said it would be a 45 minute wait while she looked up my past receipt on the computer to be sure. (I had my original receipt in hand with the watch on it.) I told her I would wait and she found the past receipt in about 5 minutes. We were going to try to find a different watch, but due to the attitude we received regarding the return, I'm glad we didn't. I had no present for my husband's birthday and a bad experience. I wound up empty handed with a charge of $15 on my credit card. I'd also had to make several trips to Zales with a fussy baby in tow. I called Zales headquarters and the Rep said the manager could charge a service fee at her discretion. With so many businesses taking returns with a smile on their face, this seems like a terrible policy. This is the third watch I've bought from Zales. The second watch had 3 of the stones fall out. I'll stick to Macy's from now on for my watch purchases. read more

We never felt pushed to buy or rushed to make a decision. When I finally found the right ring, we were pleased to learn that it was an additional 20% off! We also bought the additional $129 coverage that provides ring cleanings, diamond coverage (for 2 years, if I remember correctly) and also covered the ring to be sized. The most recent time I was here we had an older lady (foreign accent) help me and my fiancé find a ring and she was not only obnoxious, she was trying to push us into purchasing any ring I tried on.
