The tasting had 2 whites and three reds. I particularly enjoyed the Vermintino because it had a nice sharp acid bite but very fragrant on the nose. The others notables were the marsanne and mourvede. THE FINAL BAMBOO: A wine tasting here was around $30 for 5 sips. Super rustic and community driven at Texas Heritage. Definitely will be back to try more of their wine selections.

Bending Branch produces some top-notch wines and Bourbon! The winery is beautiful with multiple rooms, from high tops to comfy chairs. There is also a large patio that has some shade. They have a great family story (check out their website) and a unique way to produce bold wines. Being Kentucky natives, their bourbons are full-bodied and range from great for an old-fashioned to smooth as silk, straight up delicious. We enjoyed our red flight tasting, and yes, their Tannat is superb. Both their 2022 and 2021 Estate were complex, not overly fruity and rich. Their Tempranillo is beautifully balanced with some cherry notes and a fine leathery finish. I did sample their high-rye bourbon and was impressed with its smoothness. So impressed that a bottle now sits in my bourbon cabinet at home. This bourbon is easily sipped straight up or with a single ice cube. Bonus: If you do visit Bending Branch, take a short drive to downtown Comfort. There are some cool stores, and you have to check out the historic Giles Hotel. You can access their beautiful courtyard, and we were told by multiple folks that their breakfast is awesome. We are planning a return trip to check out the other wineries in the area and stay here.

And they have a lot to brag about! Kalasi is 100% estate grown, 100% Texas fruit, organic, woman led. The wines are really great and they offer some unique offerings (including teroldego). Customer service here was unlike any other winery experience I've ever had. Only thing keeping this from 5 stars for me is I think the inside seating and decor could be improved. I would love to see more bright colors/fabrics to go along with the theme.

From the labels, snacks, names of wines, to the water cups. You can also see llamas, sheep, and horses on the land around. Beautiful area. What I like about small vineyards is they have the freedom to experiment and create a variety of wines and blends using different varieties and winemaking styles. This innovation leads to fresh and evolving tasting experiences that keep wine interesting, exciting, and perhaps most importantly, personal. Small vineyards also focus on quality and sustainable farming, and produce smaller quantities of wine. This locally owned small vineyard has bold reds and crisp whites and breathtaking views at sunset. For my partner, I purchased a bottle of the 2019 Mourvèdre. This vino is smokey and bold with cholocatre undertones. This vino will pair well with steak and other red meats. While I am not a fan of reds, the quality and legs on this vino is undeniable. I purchased a glass of 2021 Barrel Aged Trebbiano which was reminiscent of a Cabernet Sauvignon blanc. Cabernet Blanc wines have a flavor profile that's similar to a mix of Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. They can be dry, but some are made to be slightly sweet. This Trebbiano was more dry that sweet which I adore. Aside from the vinos, the sunset views when sitting on the deck are stunning. My partner and I sat and watched the sun go down with glasses in hand. The vino coupled with the views made this outing magical. We bought tickets for a "Comedy Show" to be held there Saturday 5/9/26. The Show was great. The…read moreroad, from the main road to the winery, was very rough. Several guests were commenting on the difficult drive...which is a few miles in. We paid for a glass each of the winerys wine. Then we paid $20/each for their Buffet featuring and unplugged crackpot full of bits and pieces of olives, marinating in an uneatable liquid, uneatable hummus, stale little crackers, cut up veggies, candied spicy cold bacon, flat bread with toppings made way ahead of time (which wasn't bad) and a bowl of nuts. We felt badly for the teenagers in charge of serving the buffet. They didn't have enough serving utensils, the young man picked up crackers with his fingers for us. Parking was down the hill then we walked up the rough dirt road to the venue. Lots of folks we dressed in nice shoes and casual evening wear, not prepared for a hike. They were pretty unorganized concidering they probably wanted to put the best foot forward for future events.

They had a blast and the staff shared her experience/knowledge about her personal favorite wineries in the area. I am partial to William & Chris, Ron Yates, Adega Vinho, Ferris & Fletch, Becker, and Kalasi. However, she recommended several that I hadn't tried or at least not recently. Having individuals in the group that like sweet wines, she knew exactly where to send them. Personally, I tried several dry wines that I really enjoyed. If you have not tried Fat Ass recently or better yet, since the new ownership, I encourage you to drop in for a tasting.

The new location offers guests the option of tasting 16 wines from there new automated wine dispensing system. You can select from THREE pouring options. A tasting (1.5 oz), glass (5.0 oz), and a TEXAS glass (7.5 oz). Each wine is kept at the perfect temperature. While not all the wines are available you can always visit the vineyard or request a particular wine and pick it up in Fredericksburg. They also offer a wide selection of water, soda, and non alcoholic beers. If you like a particular wine, you can purchase a bottle and relax in the tasting room or outside on the sidewalk. The tasting room has a groovy feel with a modern twist. Decorated with a selection of modern and contemporary art, lamb skin chairs, with really cool lighting all set in a limestone historical building. If you're more interested in visiting the vineyard, they are located about 15 minutes outside of Fredericksburg in Stonewall.
