I visited this highly rated wine tasting room when I was visiting Boerne for the weekend. I was the first to arrive around 130pm, but about 4 other couples walked in not 10 mins after me. It was a fairly hot day for the end of winter, so I chose to sit inside. They have a handful of high top tables and about 17 different wines on the tasting menu. The prices for the bottles range from $24 - $165. One interesting note, the grapes are currently grown in Lubbock due to the water shortage in this area, but they have some vines that are being replanted on this property so maybe in a few years they will be ready. They do have some snacks to try/purchase in the cold case, and more dry snacks that aren't refrigerated on the other side of the room. Since we hadn't eaten lunch yet, we grabbed a meat and cheese from the refrigerated case for $10 Restrooms are in a side building adjacent to the tasting room building. I tried the El Jardin, Albarino, Cinsaut, Sangiovese, Mourvedre, and Cabernet Franc. We also sampled a 1/2 pour of the Nectar du Terroir which is a fortified dessert wine instilled with brandy. I liked it but just be warned that it is strong at 17%. El Jardin - light white wine easy to drink; would go well with seafood Cinsaut - sort of like a pinot noir but slightly bitter Sangiovese - fruity similar to cinsaut but not as bitter Mourvedre - tasted similar to cinsaut but slightly better Cabernet franc - the best of the bunch, pretty smooth Overall, we enjoyed our experience here but are not huge wine drinkers and didn't really find one we were in love with. We didn't end up taking home any bottles but will always enjoy the memories. One note, their wine is reportedly not sold at liquor stores, but it is sent to select wine bars throughout Texas, so you may find it in your town; otherwise, the only other ways to get it is through their website, or by visiting the tasting room just outside of Boerne. They do not have a tasting room in Lubbock where the grapes are grown. read more

We wanted to check out a winery in the Boerne area so we swung by here to get a winery experience without going too far off the highway. Driving up the actual winery/vines were a little sad/didn't have the picturesque vineyard look, but the inside had a nice seating area with some paintings. Our host gave us information on the paintings and winery theme which was a cool background. We decided to do bottle of the Albariño which was good. They have charcuterie boxes available for purchase from a local vendor. It has a ton of food in it but was kind of weird that it didn't have any crackers to go with the cheeses. This place is a hidden gem! My friends and I were looking to get out of the city for a bit, and enjoy some good wine without having to drive to Fredericksburg. On top of that, we needed a place that was also puppy and children friendly, since many wineries around San Antonio are not. After some research we found this amazing spot on Yelp and decided to give it a try. The winery itself is pretty small but very cozy. The staff was very welcoming and immediately made us feel at home. Instead of doing the tasting we decided to go for a bottle of Saint Tryphon 2020 Pet-Nat which was AMAZING. Frankly we didn't have big expectations about the place, but wow! The wine was absolutely delicious. We all looked at each other shocked at how good it actually was. After that bottle, we went for 2021 Albariño "EL JARDIN" which was also really good. We also had one of their charcuterie boxes which was perfect to share between three people. Ir was an absolutely gorgeous day, so my daughter in law and I decided to go for a drive in the Hill Country. On a whim, we also decided to explore a winery that we hadn't been to. Saint Tryphon is located right outside of Boerne. It's a gorgeous property (the drive was nice too). We were gretted by the staff and ordered a bottle of their Rose. You take an order number and then sit wherever you'd like (they have indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a covered patio). We had our wine brought over to us and thoroughly enjoyed not only the wine and the service but the ambiance. Wines are reasonably priced...the only thing I found slightly lacking was that there were no food choices other than a charcuterie board and snacks. That is still not enough reason to give less than a 5-star rating. They're kid- and -pet-friendly, too! The whole experience there was absolutely worth a return trip! read more

I am SO glad we came across this gem! First of all Tres was beyond welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. I called ahead of time (twice) to confirm that my dog was allowed and if they had food. He so kindly saved us a charcuterie board and was so sweet to let my dog, Bruce off the leash in the tasting room. Every recommendation he gave was better than the last. Although, the 2020 Pet-Nat was our first bottle and everyone's favorite. Signed up for the club because we just had to! This is a newly opened winery about 30 minutes north of San Antonio. This one is definitely off the beaten path but easy to find using a navigation app. Wifey and I went on a Saturday afternoon. If you're a wine noob looking for "sweet wine" (yuck!), please look elsewhere. Grounds and facility: 4.5 stars. Nice, neat, and clean. Ample gravel parking lot is a leisurely stroll to the tasting room. The tasting room is a very nice blend of rustic with a few modern touches. Artwork is gorgeous. Nice furniture. Gorgeous bar! Staff: 5 stars. We met the owner. Super friendly and approachable. Down to earth and easy to speak with. He is confident and proud to serve his products. Wine: 2.5 stars. This is 100% Texas fruit, with a nod to both Texas High Plains (e.g., Newsome) and Texas Hill Country. Some of the fruit will come from their onsite vines this coming fall. Our tasting ($15 per person) featured four pours. Wine #1. 2016 Blanc du Bois. 500 mL bottle. $50. This was, by far, the best wine poured. Nice floral notes up front. Palate featured honeysuckle, apples, pears, and several other layers. Nice acidity. Well balanced. 3.25 stars. Wine #2: 2016 Tempranillo. 750 mL bottle. $38. The owner called it "Rustico". That's what I'd call it as well. I got primarily blueberries with big tannins. Wifey picked up raisin notes. We both found it underdeveloped and unrefined, lacking in flavor and finesse, reminiscent of a barrel sample. 2 stars. Wine #3: 2016 Mourvèdre. 750 mL bottle. $56. Fermented in the same neutral American oak barrels as its Tempranillo brethren. I got primarily ripe cherries with big tannins. Wifey picked up on some grassy notes. We both found it underdeveloped and unrefined, lacking in flavor and finesse, reminiscent of a barrel sample. 2 stars. Wine #4: Impetuous Malvasia Bian "Pet-Nat". 750 mL bottle. $30. This is a bottle-fermented white wine. Light and lively, with yeasty notes. Almost beer-like in texture and flavor. 2.5 stars. We strongly support our local Texas wineries, especially those that use 100% Texas fruit. While not quite to our liking, you may have a completely different palate and a far different experience. Stopped by this small family owned vineyard with my wife and a friend after seeing a few road signs for it. It is a bit tucked away off the main road but is an absolutely beautiful setting. Great outdoor seating area and a very comfortable environment that makes you feel at home. We had just missed the rush and spent some time chatting with the owner, who was very friendly and knowledgeable. The wines themselves were excellent as well, and very unique compared to most of the wines you find throughout the hill country. My favorite wine is Tempranillo and Saint Tryphons was one of the best I've had in a long time! Last weekend my husband and I visited Saint Tryphon. When you enter, the vibrant piece, Saint Tryphon by Rimi Yang, hangs behind the wooden bar. After our tasting, we each ordered a glass of wine along with a charcuterie box from Firehouse Fare. Fresh goods hugged the four walls of the box. It was filled with Spanish chorizo and cheeses such as pesto jack, gouda and havarti. Plump berries, almonds, grapes, ground mustard and pickled okra splashed the box with color. This place passes my three rules that make a winery one that I would spend my money at and recommend to others-- Quality wine, quality convo, quality atmosphere. I would highly recommend Saint Tryphon! If you're coming from SA (or anywhere) and want a winery experience without all of the driving up to 290 and crowds, this is your place! You feel like you're right at home sitting on the patio with string lights, vines, and views to gaze at while you sip on wonderful wine. Get the tasting for sure, but my favorite is the rosé. The owner/ winemaker, Sil, is hospitable and conversational. He can can carry on a conversation with you no matter what your level of experience in the wine world. I appreciate that you can ask him questions and you don't feel like an idiot-- something that isn't always common when conversing with a somm. He's good people. Also, if you're about the wine dogs like me, Saint Tryphon one ups everyone with a wine mini pony! (Prince snowflake) they have other animals too (hence "FARM and vineyards") and of course the sweetest wine doggo, Charlie. Based on the star rating on yelp, made it our first wine tasting stop with excitement. I love reds so this should have been my place. Sadly, it was not. The pouer/wine maker was very nice and friendly. The pours were less than an ounce with only four tastings for $15. Which was a bit disappointing given the wines prices were steep and quality disappointing. My guess is that he feels that small bashes means high price....... agreed for well structured wines and established producers. Quintessentially, Saint Tryphon Farm & Vineyards is but one more fine example of someone daring to live the Texas Hill Country winery dream and proving it can be done in Boerne. Named after the 3rd century Christian Saint of all things related to wine and gardening, Saint Tryphon, owners Silouan and Mary Elizabeth Bradford have taken to heart what crafting great grapes from the land can do for producing wonderful wines. Impressed by Napa wineries, travels to Europe, and sound advice from local area winemaker Lewis Dickson, their dreams began to take root in 2013 with the purchase of their property in Boerne soon followed by Blanc du Bois vines being planted on the estate in 2016. The winery, which opened to the public in February 2018, has been serving some well-crafted wines to many happy wine lovers. They specialize in using natural wine fermenting techniques. Silouan's winemaking style has yielded some incredible natural and great tasting selections. Most grapes are sourced from Farmhouse Vineyards from the Texas High Plains AVA. There are currently five wines for tasting. We started with the 2018 Albariño. Sourced from Newsom Vineyards, it had lovely notes of floral and melons. Their 2019 Mourvedre Rosé...wow! You will love the petals on the nose and watermelon notes with a very pretty color. For the first red, we tried the 2017 Mourvedre which is quite fruit forward and packing plum and cherry notes. The 2018 Tempranillo, sourced from Newsom Vineyards, is spicy with big acids, bold flavors, and a tantalizing fine finish. Like bubbly? No problem! Their 2018 Pét-Nat style sparkling is made from Orange Muscat with honeysuckle on the nose and tropical notes and citrus to delight the senses. Want more tastings? For sale but not on the tasting menu is the 2017 Blanc du Bois and 2018 Cinsaut Rosé. There are a few new wines coming out soon: a Tannat, an Aglianco blend, and another Cinsaut creation. Whether you choose the indoor or outdoor seating for your tasting, both have the right ambiance for sipping and taking it easy as you relax and enjoy your wines with your visit. The pool and big oak tree to the south makes a lovely picturesque scene as you look out over the Hill Country. My husband and I stumbled upon this winery after seeing one of the signs on the highway. We couldn't believe our luck! We pulled up to a quaint tasting room that was so beautiful with breathtaking hill country surrounds. My favorite wine tasting! I'm from Houston, and I always make it a priority to visit this cozy vineyard located in the Boerne. As you drive up to the vineyard, it takes you down a "country" rode, and from the drive up to the gates, you get this southern home feel. And then you're greeted by the couple, Silouan and Mary Elizabeth Bradford. Right away they take you in as family, and it feels like you've known them your entire life. As soon as you enter the for wine, it's detailed in wood carvings from their outside patio to their inside tasting room. The attention to detail is what strikes me. I asked Silouan about the corking, and he said he used an old style of waxing for their bottles of wine, and I love it. The lighting is a romantic lighting. And my favorite part is their display of the wines on the wall made from wooden shelving. The entire place makes you feel at home. Mourvèdre, the Tempranillo, Rose "Bird in Hand", the Blanc du Bois and the Syrah are the wines I've tried. Their Rose "Bird in Hand" is my favorite Rose that I've ever tried. My favorite wine that they have is Pet-Nat, IMPETUOUS!!!! It's a sparkling wine, and it's different yet distinct taste. And last night the owner was generous enough to give me a glass of their unreleased red wine called Aglianico "Cinghale" And he explained to me that Cinghale is Italian for Wild Boar. This was my favorite of their reds, and I can't wait for him to release it! If you're around San Antonio, St Tryphon Farms and Vineyard is an absolute must! You will not be disappointed! read more
