This place used to be good, maybe 10 or 12 years ago. I moved from EHT to Absecon several months ago, having lived here previously. There are several restaurants I used to like that have let me down and Joe and John's has done it several times now. I know, if they let me down once, why go back? We'll, anyone can have a bad day, so I'm one to give a second chance. First time we ordered delivery when we moved back the food was good, but then it went downhill. Chicken parmigiana that was like rubber, in the trash. Chicken Michelangelo...like leather, in the trash. Forgot to deliver the Cannolis!!! And this evening, pizza delivered that was supposed to be half cheese, have sausage and mushrooms that looked like a lava flow. Not one slice of the pizza could've been called "plain cheese". The family selected Joe and John's and I nervously sat in the car reading the previous Yelp reviews. Good news: my experience was better. It wasn't the most phenomenal pizza shop with an Italian restaurant I've ever been to, but it was solid in every aspect. The service was friendly and accommodating. The dining room was cute; picture a mini "Venetian" backdrop. I had the eggplant parm with a side of pasta with oil and garlic. The dish was prepared to standard and was enjoyable. It also came with a side salad. There wasn't much in the salad so I'd probably give the soup a try next time. We also received fresh bread for the table. As with many similar places, Joe and John's is also BYOB. Not gourmet and not a horrific experience. It's a solid three. read more

So this is a difficult review. I've been going to Joe & John's since they opened. I believe they have changed owners since then. While I have never gotten al bad meal from this place ,the quality has definitely changed over the years. The pizza here is average. Better then some not as good as others. Again I am a long time resident and consumer here but I am trying to be honest and not let sentiment cloud my judgment. Always a cheesy pizza and like I ve said I've never had a Bad meal here. The area however has grown and so many good places have popped up ,especially for pizza. Some by the original owners of Joe & John's. What a load of crap this place is. They have a Wednesday special, 12 wings for $7. Not a bad deal, right? Well, boyfriend just called to order and was told by the very rude and unprofessional employee that it "depends on how they're cooked. If they're big wings, you get 10. If they're small wings, you get 12. It's whatever the cook decides to do" No, sorry, if you're advertising 12 wings for $7, then it's 12 wings for $7. Have you ever heard of such a thing?! Skip this place, since they clearly want to argue over the size and quantity of THEIR advertised special. I personally have always loved Joe and John's pizza. It's been my family's go to for awhile now. But that's the only place my stars come in. It seems 90% of the time, their chef cannot get my order correct. I've placed orders online where you can choose to have your toppings on the left side, right side, or on the entire pie. I always get half plain for my daughter as she doesn't like the toppings and won't eat it even if we pull them off. A few times we'd order online, the pizza would have full toppings and we'd have to call to have it corrected. Tonight, we ordered Joe and John's online again. Toppings on one side. I even made sure to add that exact quote in the "special instructions" box to ensure half would be plain without any confusion, that seems to come from when we typically order online. The time was an estimated 30 minutes. It came after an hour (which I'm used to, no biggie) and was half one topping/half the other topping. My SO called back to ask to have it fixed and he said he would pick it up so we wouldn't have to wait. He then overheard the person who made the pizza, argue with the nice lady who answered the phone, demanding we bring the other pizza back. As if we were trying to scam a free pizza? We obviously intended on bringing it back in the first place since it had to be replaced? This will, unfortunately, be the last time we order from them as I'm not sure what I'm going to get when I do. read more

Tried the buffalo chicken calzone, it was pretty spicy and good. Minestrone was a very typical one, some macaroni and veggies, it needed more herbs and spices, I was pouring pepper on it to make it more interesting.. server was pretty polite and fast. I ate in the dining room where there is waiter service, but this place also does delivery and a lot of pick up at the counter orders.. since "Italian" and pizza places are by far the most common type of eating establishment in NJ, I didn't really see anything that made this place stand out from the crowd, it was OK. read more

When ever I visit friends in S Jersey we always get pizza's from Joe & John's. I haven't had anything else there so I can't comment on the rest of the menu. All I can say is I love their pizza! I have been to Joe & John's Italian Restaurant many times over the past 2 years. The food is great - this place is much more than just a great pizzeria. One of my favorites on the menu is chicken marsala! Then lemonchella cake and coffee for desert! This place is family owned and operated and the owners make you feel like you are part of the family - very nice personal touch! This is the best Italian food I have ever had. As an Italian New Yorker I am used to great Italian food and I guarantee you will love this restaurant. Whether you go out for dinner or take out you can be rest assured you and your guests will be pleasantly surprised at the home made taste. Best Lasagna ever, why stay home and make your own sauce when theirs is much better. We also had the ravioli, spaghetti bolognese, and the cheesesteak stromboli with mushrooms which were all amazing. I never had a problem with this place.. the food was ok and it was something to eat.. well last night I ordered a medium pepperoni pizza, it came and didn't taste bad.. around 230am my stomach started feeling like crap.. I had to jump out of bed and run to the bathroom.. took some pepto and went back to bed.. about an hour later I had to jump up again and run.. after that I got some water and walked around the kitchen.. I didn't even get the water bottle open and I had to run to the bathroom again.. this time sticking my head in the toilet.. after that I laid back down, feeling like crap.. got up again at 830 and had to hit the head again.. I called my doctor and she said it could be a stomach virus.. drink Gatorade and see how you feel tomorrow.. so I asked the wife to go get some.. I called my sister and she told me the same thing happened to her.. so I figured, coincidence that we both got stomach virus in the same night or food poisoning from the pizza since we were the only two that ate it.. I called the pizza place to advise them to check there ingrediants and was told.. unless they get a few more complaints then my sister and me.. they aren't gonna do anything about it.. I am in the food service industry and have been for years.. 1 complaint about food born illness you take serious.. this alone was enough to turn me off this place, the uncaring manner in which the manager spoke.. so I will never go back to this place.. read more

As a customer of 30 plus years at Joe and John's I'm horrified by my experience there today. We ordered 3 wraps and two slices of pizza for the kids. Two of the wraps were buffalo chicken and fairly decent. The third was a chicken parmesan wrap. It was disgusting to say the least. After 2 bites my mom couldn't eat it. It was just covered in sauce with little cheese. It was so saucy that it was impossible to pick up after it sat a few minutes. When we brought it to the waitress's attention she apologized but still left it on the bill. When it was questioned she got Andrew the owner. He was surly and rude. He said this was a restaurant not a place just to try things out. When we explained what was wrong with it he continued to argue with us and said it's the way he liked it and he sold 4 today. I argued that it wasn't his opinion that mattered it was the customer's. He continued to argue. We paid for the lousy wrap and will not go back due to the rude and pompous owner. read more

This place is great. Looks like your typical pizza place. The pizza is good and the sandwiches are so so, but don't let all of that fool you. Skip the pizza and sandwiches and go hungry. The dinners are absolutely fantastic!!!! Original Italian cooking, maybe better than we had in Italy. The veal and seafood are particularly good and very reasonably priced. We were staying at a hotel near this restaurant and they recommended this place. We ordered and the waitress named Patty smelled of stale cigarettes. She took our order and when it came it was wrong . She begged us to just EAT IT because the new owner was very mean to her and treated her badly. she needs money badly and he took all her money shifts away. I dont even know what she is talking about. my husband was just like whatever just eat it. and we did the food even though it was wrong was ok. the drama from this waitress was way too much to handle. At the end she didnt give us a check she just told us a total because she said they dont have receipts seemed fishy. I will be trying to contact this owner. when we went back to hotel we recommended they not send people here! if anything order take out!!!! read more
