These were the five dollar hand cut fries

I visited Joe Donut - Mt Prospect on a Saturday afternoon around 12 p.m. The place wasn't busy and there were many people working behind the counter, so it definitely had an energetic vibe. That said, the experience felt a little disorganized. The girl who rang me up seemed to be new. Everyone has to start somewhere, of course, but there was an overbearing manager (perhaps the owner) hovering nearby who didn't appear to be offering much actual guidance or training. The dynamic felt more tense than supportive, which was noticeable as a customer. As for the food, prices seemed a bit high for what you receive. The value didn't quite match the portion size. We ordered the Double Royal with Cheese, and it was about the size of a McDonald's double cheeseburger. It tasted fine, but for the price point $10, I expected something more substantial. We also ordered the $5 "hand-cut" fries, which were clearly pre-cut and frozen. That was disappointing, especially given the premium price point and the expectation set by the description. Overall, not a terrible stop, but between the pricing, portion size, and the uncomfortable front-counter dynamic, it didn't quite live up to expectations. We did not try the donuts, but they also appeared to be on the higher end when you compare other local options.

Small sampling of donuts! Also wasn't the biggest fan of their maple bacon. They need to cook the bacon more. But the rest are good

So I've never actually been inside and I've only brought them home but, they are pretty good but I have a couple gripes with them. I understand that creative license is a big thing in food. But when there is a classic item that people are expecting to be a certain way and you mess with that, it doesn't go over well. At least not for me. Specifically I'm talking about their very loose interpretation of a Boston cream donut. I also love a good maple bacon donut but , they definitely need to cook the bacon for those donuts more. Both of these are in my pictures, so you can see what I'm talking about. Overall the variety and flavor of the donuts is pretty great, but I've also dealt with a lot of attitude from the staff. So I didn't appreciate that. As I said I haven't been in the actual location myself but to speak to the Ambiance at least the parking lot and that situation is not the greatest. It does look very clean from what I've seen, but there are other places I would go before here. That said if you're close by and craving a donut definitely worth a stop in. I do still want to visit one day and get something other than Donuts. But for now this is where I stand. Don't take my word for it though give them a try if you're in the area!

Outstanding donut shop with great coffee and service. $14 for half dozen. The staff really take care of customers. Good location. Most highly recommended!

In an area that is saturated with Dunkin' Donuts, it was nice to find something different. In a sit down, modern location, Joe donut is offering up some of the more progressive varieties in the area. Grabbed a half dozen including a maple bacon, red velvet, pistachio old fashioned, chocolate covered old fashioned, and sprinkles for the kids represents the most expensive donuts I've ever purchased coming in at $14. Looks like they also serve some traditional egg sandwiches and espresso drinks. First samples of the donut collection showed signs that some were not fresh baked that morning with the glaze crumbling off in chunks on the first bite and the cream cheese topping on the red velvet being oxidized. Even though they have some of the more unique donut offerings, I prefer mine to be fresh baked.

Decided to pop in here one afternoon as I've passed this place quite a few times. I looked at the menu before going in but they were already sold out of some of their donuts so I went with what they had. The good? The berry flavored donuts were my favorite. Typically I like chocolate flavored but I was a bit let down with the Oreo, chocolate frosted old fashioned, and s'mores donuts. I think next time I would want to check out their food menu versus donuts. Not sure if I'd be up to paying $12 + tax for the donuts again.

Cold coffee. Stale donuts and not much of a selection. The first bite left a layer of grease on the roof of my mouth. Skip this place.

I opted to go with the corned beef hash which comes with two eggs, hash browns, and your choice of pancakes or toast. It was neither disappointing, nor exceptional. Good enough to be enjoyed without any major complaints. It seemed like others at my table who had been there before ordered sandwiches/burgers which they seemed quick to wolf down. Service was attentive and friendly. Our server did a good job making sure we always had coffee on our table and water filled up throughout our meal. Grade A Cafe is a more open-style bistro with a nice quiet breakfast diner ambiance to help ease you into your day. I also noticed the place seemed to get much busier the closer we got to lunch time. Long story short, you won't be disappointed by their breakfast options, but might be pleasantly surprised by their lunch ones.

The place was empty which I can't really review on that considering it was a Tuesday morning. They had one server who didn't look happy to be there and wasn't the friendliest. I ordered gluten-free avocado toast and my husband ordered eggs Benedict. Both were just "meh." My bread must've been walked past a toaster because it was soft and soggy. The avocado had no flavor and the eggs were overcooked so I ended up ripping them off and the fruit that came with it was only 4 pieces. My husband said the same about his muffin that it was not toasted, the eggs were overcooked, and all of it had no flavor, including the potatoes that came with it. I could maybe understand the subpar food if the place were busy but we were only one of two tables in there. On top of that, we were overcharged for our meals but I wasn't going to argue over a few dollars, I just wanted to leave. So having said that, we will definitely not be back and will stick to our favorite breakfast place that is always consistently good.

The restaurant is decorated very nicely, they put a lot of thought in colors and decor. Our waitress was very sweet and knowledgeable, I appreciated her input. I ordered coffee and my cup was never left empty. They have a really sweet man who comes around and tops off your coffee cups. They have specials and a kids menu too. The bathroom latches are way too high for a child to lock the door, but they do have a fold down changing table in the woman's restroom. (Not in the stall) They do have high chairs for toddlers. I actually need a chair to rest my leg on because I cannot bend my right knee. Our waitress was very nice about it... however a man came up to me and told me it was a fire hazard to have a chair in the aisle... so what about the kids high chairs? The chair was completely pushed under the table... so I had no choice but to put my foot up on the other side of the booth (which I was avoiding). Also the booth cushion is not attached so when you lean on it it comes up... making it very hard for a handicapped person like me to get in and out of a booth. other than that our experience was enjoyable. My husband ordered the corned beef hash breakfast. It came with Corned beef Hash, 2 eggs (he ordered his scrambled) diced potatoes or hashed browns (he picked diced potatoes) and toast or pancakes. That is a lot of food for him, so I am going to eat his pancakes. I also ordered two eggs over easy off the sides menu. The portion sizes are large. My husband's scrambled eggs looked more like 3 eggs and not two. The food was nice and hot and tasty. Highly recommended dining here if you're in the area. Will be back.

There were ample hash browns cooked very nicely and the country fried steak was tender and well seasoned. It had a bit of a black pepper flavor. I also paid a bit extra for specialty pancakes because I am a huge fan of the red velvet pancakes. They are sweet and decadent but I can never pass up the opportunity. My daughter ordered the Açaí bowl which was a large portion and had ample ingredients with fruit and granola. It was nicely frozen and fresh. It was more than enough to fill her. They offer a nice selection of beverages and I took advantage of the Bloody Mary that was flavorful and tasty.
