I had low expectations for Joe's because of their funny-looking old school logo, but I did in fact enjoy the food. The interior was also cleaner and nicer than the vibe I got from the sign. I got the chicken parmigiana lunch for takeout, which is $3 more if you get it during dinner time. I also got the meatball hot sub. After a $2 service fee, my total was $30, which was great value for how much food I got. I ended up getting 3.5 meals out of these two dishes. The chicken parmigiana lunch was delicious. The pasta and chicken were both very tasty. It came with garlic bread, which I think only had garlic on half of it. The meatball sub was gigantic. Stopped in to check out this place, we had won a lunch for (2) certificate from the Veteran's Sponsored event at the local Harley Davidson Shop. Varied menu we went with the Meat pizza, they did not have Coke Zero and the only coke they had was in the Bottle with pure sugar. So a little overload. Food was great and the service was wonderful, nice atmosphere to this place. The only issue came when I went to pay the bill they could not get a manager to come to the register to okay the lunch, seems like they did not know how to handle this transaction. Made the experience not as good as it had started. The waitress said she would take care of it and for us not to wait around. They also have Gelato at the store and they have wonderful pastries which we picked up the following week for our son's birthday. Pastries were excellent and reminded me of bakeries in the Bronx. read more

First, we only came for the Gelato. IF we try the pizza next time, I will update the review. We were told the Gelato display had no Gelato and they store it somewhere else. The cashier/hostess showed us a paper with a handwritten list of flavors. Maybe the display cooler was broken? After placing our order I immediately noticed how sticky the floors were. The floors were sticky everywhere! We received our Gelatos and sat down in the empty restaurant. It was around 2:30pm so maybe the lunch rush ended. It was okay Gelato. The portion was great. Every dish my family ordered was delicious! From the chicken piccata, chicken Tuscany, spaghetti, and cheese ravioli all our dishes taste authentically made. We've driven by for years, and never stopped. We were very pleasantly surprised by our visit. Food and service were both great. Plenty of parking. Very convenient location to BSW. Great, clean restrooms. The only downsides were they were out of draft beer, and the gelato we tried was not fantastic, although I would try others. The desserts looked great. read more

This place serves up a good variety of your typical Italian dishes. They have an assortment of pastas and pizzas which have plentiful portions. But the superstar here in my opinion is their homemade gelato. Oh my goodness - and I think it's overlooked and bypassed since it's at the very front in the corner. But once I got to sample some - I was so surprised because here I thought I knew what good gelato was but the owner was right - I've never had gelato that good before, and that's what bumped this 4-Star review up to 5-Stars. My co-worker (aka "Bama-DC") loves this place and introduced them to me several months ago. He eats here weekly and always gets the lunch specials - which are pretty solid. Two slices of pizza + drink for $6.99, or 1 pizza & side salad + drink for the same price. We've been here on a few visits and I've been pretty pleased with everything so far. DC likes the meat combo and buffalo chicken pizza. I dig the pizza with Italian ham, I want to try the Alla Vodka Pizza which looks really good. I also liked their square pepperoni pizza very much. There is some excess grease sometimes but it's all good. I've also had their pasta dish with Italian sausage and was pretty happy with it, I couldn't finish it all because they give you a lot of food for your money here. On their website they show to have specials with prices too. On our most recent visit the owner stops over to our table and asks if we've ever tried his homemade gelato. We're like - no - but we're always open to trying new things. Now eating too much sweets during lunch while I'm working isn't my cup of tea so I try to avoid the extra sugar intake - but he let us sample a lot of the flavors and - WOW - I broke my golden dessert rule immediately. His gelato was incredible. I sampled pistachio, lemon, hazelnut, chocolate, cherry, and passion fruit and they were all so creamy good. I thought I've had good gelato in Austin but now that I've had the Real McCoy here in Temple I now know I've never had it this good. The lemon was so lemony and bursting with flavor. The cherry was superb and creamy good. The hazelnut was just phenomenal, so good, the texture is so inviting. The chocolate has bits of chocolate inside, the berry yogurt has that tangy yogurt twist you'd expect from a really good quality yogurt. I was so floored that I asked for 3 scoops even though I had no more room for it. So creamy and light and flavorful, it distinctly separates itself from ice cream and the processed gelato that's in the frozen section at the store. I've had gelato all over the Austin area (and other places as well) and I have to honestly say that this is by the best damn gelato I've ever had, hands down. This is my first time trying Joe's Pizza & Pasta. I'm going to go item by item and rate it by temperature, taste, presentation, portion, would I buy it again, and overall rating. As far as temperature, I got all my food delivered by Postmates and everything came very hot and fresh. Chicken fettuccine Alfredo: -temp: hot -taste: 8/10 it has a good flavor, but I would have liked some Parmesan cheese. Included were two hard rolls I didn't eat. -presentation: 3/10 could have used some green herbs on top for color and some freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Nog even a packet of Parmesan was included. -portion: 6/10 it was small for $13.99 and there wasn't very much chicken. -would I buy again? Maybe, I'd like to see the portion size in restaurant. Overall rating: 7/10 Sausage Sub: temp: hot -taste: 8/10 the sausage has a nice flavor, but I would have liked more of it. The bread is slightly chewy and I would have liked it toasted. -presentation: 4/10 it's a sausage sub, so I realize it's going to look sloppy, but butcher paper and some natural twine would be a nice inexpensive touch and less "fast food" feel than aluminum foil. -portion: 8/10 it's a decent size for one perssize. -would I buy again? The tomatoes were very wet and when I picked up a slice all the topping slid right off. Nothing special or remarkable about this pizza. The crust was crispy, which I like, but the crust had no flavor. Bland disappointing pizza. -presentation: 7/10. Dude to colorful toppings it looks appetizing. It's a takeout pizza, so I can't rate a typical standard pizza box. -portion: 8/10 it's a 14" pizza and is enough for two regularly hungry people. -would I buy again? No, I'm still looking for a good Neapolitan pizza. Overall rating: 6/10 Would I eat at Joe's Pizza and pasta again? yes, I would like to try their dine-in experience, and see if any of my grievances are made better. My latest visit to Joes was good, and because this is a "leftover" reheat review, it should be taken as so. When I re-heated my chicken fettuccini alfredo the next day, it was incredibly oily. Also my dining partner gave me the rest of her pasta florentine and it was also greasy as all get out. Talking to a friend who recently tried to enjoy a pizza with half philly cheesesteak and half supreme, the puddle of oil in the center of the pizza was very evident and made the pizza inedible. As you can read in my previous review, I am a big fan of Joes, but recent events force me to conclude there may have been a change in chefs and a heavy hand with the olive oil. read more

I never ever review a buisness with a negative review........However I think this buisness is so misleading. A few years ago this was great Italian food at a reasonable price! I believe what changed is the owners are now Hispanic and so are the cooks. The prices have gone up so crazy! 17.50 for chicken Murphy at lunch time and no soup or salad is included because that's extra .....the bread is not a homemade garlic knot anymore it's rather a extremely light very dry type of roll with terrible taste and texture. Everything has changed and the quality of the food is not there .....However the prices are insanely inflated. The sweet waitress who works the entire front and register is the only remaining charm here. Olive Garden or any chain Italian will beat this place in quality and price anytime. This is a new location for this restaurant owner, but he has a super popular location in the Killeen area. The "by-the-slice" deal is really good 2 large slices and a drink for about $7. When I say large, I mean NY size slices. My husband couldn't finish both slices and he hadn't eaten lunch, so he was starving. The pizza is really good, and they have a good variety of pizzas on display to choose from, but also have whole pizzas made to order. Two of my sons had the pasta trio and the ravioli. They were both decent portions, and the marinara is excellent. I had a shrimp pasta dish that was really good. The shrimp were fresh and cooked perfectly. The bread they use for their garlic rolls and marinara are definitely better than Italiano's, which is across the street. There selection of pasta dishes is better than Italiano's. The bathrooms are modern and clean, as was the rest of the restaurant. The space is large, so you could probably have a meeting there if you wanted, it just wouldn't be super private. I'm giving it 4 stars only because it was 100 degrees outside and the air conditioning wasn't keeping up, however the bathrooms were nice and cool. My sons got a little over heated. Other than that, I would say that our other local Italian pizza joint across the street definitely has some serious competition. If they fix the AC they could be unstoppable! read more

Online orders are pretty cut and dry. This order was mostly missing. Missing the extra cheese,extra meat sausage. The crust has a good flavor. I would have preferred it crisper. The sauce is fresh tasting with nice spice balance. Since I ordered a pizza with meat, I can't review it. It didn't show up at my house with any meat. That made me very sad mainly because at 2 in the afternoon there's no rush. Been a fan and patron of this restaurant since it opened. That changed recently when I met the owner. I approached him asking if he would display a poster for the season opening show of our local community theater group in which Joe's Pizza and Pasta would have gotten free mention in the program seen by approximately 1700 theatre attendees over the next two weekends. my family and I excitedly came here for dinner after glancing at the menu online! we were a little disappointed. we started off with mozzarella sticks which were great! -steaming hot, fresh, definitely handmade. I ordered the tortellini & spinach which was brought out as tortellini and mushrooms. I let the waitress know this is not what I asked for, but she begged to differ. I let it go. my daughter wanted a cheese pizza, (which was enough for 2 kids) the waitress asked if we wanted any additional toppings and I said nope, just cheese. she brought out an entire pepperoni pizza, AND an entire cheese pizza. my partner ordered "Spaghetti w the Works" listed on the menu coming with Meatballs, meat sauce, sausage, and mushrooms. we asked to exclude the mushrooms. when his meal came out we asked about the meatballs bc there were none- she said they're in there. they come chopped up in little pieces... that should not be considered a meatball then. we paid $6.99 to get 3 additional actual whole meatballs. we also asked if we would receive garlic knots with our meal, otherwise we would order them separately. the waitress assured us knots come with each dinner meal. we received bread, but no garlic knots. food was great. maybe it was just an off day for the waitress. read more

If you read my reviews, you know that I'm a pizza guy. Whether it's thin crust, thick crust, pan, Chicago, Detroit, or whatever, if It's good I'll like it. I'll admit that NYC pizza is probably my favorite, and that's what they serve at Joe's. After a brief bit of confusion regarding sizes, I ordered a 14" with mushroom and sweet Italian sausage. They must have a hot oven, because they made everything fresh, and it came out in less than 10 minutes. The cook on the crust was absolutely perfect. It had the chew that one expects from a good NYC crust. At first the toppings appeared skimpy, but it was actually just about right. If I'm ever back in Temple, I know where to go for great pizza! read more

We've been here multiple times over the last year since moving to Temple. The fried ravioli is what brings us back. But last time, it was burnt. We thought it was a fluke, gave them another chance. Tonight, it was not quite burnt, but still not the "good" that we've gotten in the past. The service was absolutely horrible tonight too. Waitress rolled her eyes at bringing us new drinks when we told her that all 3 (same soda) tasted wrong. Then she rolled her eyes when we asked for a third plate (for the third person sitting at our table). AFTER she dropped off the pizza, again only giving us two plates for 3 people, she NEVER CAME BACK. We never got drink refills, and never had the opportunity to ask for another plate. She ignored our "standing up / waving arms" attempts to get her attention. I told the manager we needed service because we wanted to leave, he told me to sit down, wait, he was too busy. Waitress acted like we should just wait 20+ minutes (after we finished eating) and just be okay with her ignoring us. This is the ONLY time I have refused to tip. I will generally leave 13-15% for bad service, but blatantly waiting on ALL of your other tables (multiple visits to each, while purposefully not looking at us trying to get your attention) AND your "manager" telling us that you don't need to give us service.... you don't need my business or money. We won't be back, not even after it changes to a different restaurant next year. As usual - The pizza itself was horrible. Ours was half cold when she brought it out, very limp and barely done in the center. I put it in a to-go box (thinking 20 minutes reheated in it oven might make it better), but left the box.
