I hired Joel to photograph my son's wedding reception. I had explained ahead of time that the event was in a banquet room with low lighting and lots of bright colors, and that it was important to me that he capture photos of our family as well as all the guests. In that respect, Joel did a very good job. He photographed the newlyweds, the guests, and the performances thoroughly, and he worked quietly and unobtrusively throughout the evening. However, there were very few pictures of our family. I wished he had focused on getting more family pictures. The reason I am giving a 4-star review rather than 5 is due to a lack of clarity around post-processing. It was not communicated beforehand that the photos would be largely unedited. While the lighting was adjusted, many images ended up overexposed, and there were several distracting background elements--such as podiums, backpacks, and visible wires--that I had expected would be edited out. When I asked about this, I was told that additional editing would cost extra. There was also a lot of emphasis on a complimentary drone photo of the entire party, which unfortunately was not feasible since the event was indoors. I wish the focus had instead been on clearly explaining what level of editing was included and taking more family pictures. Overall, if you are looking for someone to efficiently cover an event and capture everyone present, Joel does a solid job. If you want more detailed editing or a specific finished look, I would strongly recommend clarifying those expectations in advance. Honestly, Joel was just wonderful to work with. He made the whole photoshoot super easy and stress-free. First off, he's great with communication--replied quickly and showed up exactly on time, which I really appreciated. He's also just a really easy going guy and has a way of making you feel totally comfortable in front of the camera. He recommended that I seek out some inspiration online and to get additional props that I wanted. Joel is the man!! I'm so grateful to have met him. He came through for my family at the very last minute and pulled off the most amazing shoot right before Christmas 2020. Joel did our engagement photos this past weekend at Santa Clara University and they turned out beautifully thanks to his awesome photography skills. He was able to find hidden gems on the campus, which provided wonderful scenery for the photos. Joel also made us feel very relaxed and comfortable; it was an enjoyable and fun experience. We selected Joel Moses to photograph and video our wedding and reception. We found him on Yelp, and he gave a very convincing sales pitch when we went to his apartment. We handed him a list of all the photos and video we wanted, and he made clear what he could and could not do based on our budget. To get a discount, we paid him the entire amount up front. Pros Pictures and highlight video are fantastic. Included in our package were soft copies of every photo taken during the event, a 16-page bound photo album of pictures we selected, an assortment of hard copy prints we selected, and a DVD of the highlight video. Joel and his staff were professional, polite, and captured all the special moments of our wedding day, including but not limited to: our high-five moment, my mother's tea ceremony, and close-ups of our wedding rings and party favors. Joel also used a drone to film the wedding party outdoors. He emphasized the story-telling of a wedding day, which he conveyed in the photo album very well. Cons Joel and his staff showed up over a half hour late to the wedding. My wife and I wanted pre-wedding pictures of the bride and groom rooms. He took several in the groom room but missed the bride room entirely. When Joel arrived, he offered no apology. My wife wanted to have a picture of her dress in a window. After some haggling, Joel agreed to take the picture on another day, but she got busy and it never happened. We married in August and wanted to have prints available for our families by Christmas. We prodded Joel several times in November and December to get it done. At times he said he knew nothing about it even though we had an email from him saying he would get the prints to us by Christmas. He finally got it done at the last minute, but the prints were not what we asked for. Instead of asking him to get it right, we decided to just print what we needed ourselves. We had a photo shoot with Joel last Sunday and here I am writing this review on Wednesday already attaching photos (Isn't this a quick turn around time... just in time for the holiday pictures to go out). I'm writing because I was really impressed with the pictures (almost 400 pictures), the service (always with a smile and enthusiasm) and quick turn around (3 days to have the photos on my computer is a record time). We spent 1 hour this Sunday with Joel and Angel to take some photos of our family (and dog :-)). Joel and Angel are great. They came on time (!!!) and were ready with a big smile to accommodate our family of 5 (and did I mention the dog???). Some of the additional great photos were from an angel we didn't expect. Joel and Angel were very accommodating to try new angels, crazy shoots and basically have fun. We had lots of fun during this one hour family photo session. We didn't have to wait too long for the results :-). After reviewing the pictures (already on Monday morning), there were so many good ones it was very difficult to choose, we decided to buy the full CD with High Res pictures (!!!). The price was totally reasonable (especially when you think of the number of great pictures we're going to print ourselves). Once we purchased the CD, Joel also allowed us to download all the photos from his site, which made the turnaround even quicker. What a fantastic service!!! This has probably been the most unpleasant experience with a business owner I've ever encountered. I contacted this photographer about a newborn mini session. His response was extremely rude, Unprofessional, and so know-it-all I couldn't imagine how he'd be in person. He said there was "no such thing as a newborn mini session", which was completely incorrect because I had just booked one - with another very polite photographer at a MUCH better rate than he offered. How hard is it to be polite to a potential new client? Wouldn't the appropriate response be: Congratulations on your new baby! But no. Here is what he said to me: "There is no such thing as a mini session for a new born shoot. New shoots take proper time and care for needed success and are delicate shoots." I found Joel on Yelp and after talking with him decided he was the PERFECT person to shoot our Oscar Hollywood theme party. He was more excited about our party than us I think! He suggested that we include a 2nd photographer (Angel) since our party was so large and we were so happy he did. We ended up with more than 1000 fantastic pictures of the decorated venue, our fabulously dressed guests and our event. Since our theme was hollywood, we had a step-and-repeat (like at a red carpet event where celebrities pose in front of) on the way in for our guests to feel like they were on the red carpet. Terrible experience with Joel, who canceled, left me on read and refused to issue a refund. I found Joel on Groupon and booked him for graduation / family pictures. He requested the entire payment upfront and texted me several times during the day as a reminder to pay. I did so and we were booked for four days later. On the day of the shoot, literally an hour before the scheduled time when my family and I were ready and about to head out the door, Joel texts me that he had sprained his ankle and was unable to make it. I was sympathetic--hey, sh*t happens--and we turned around and went home. However, we were leaving the country the next day and thus rescheduling was not an option. I was completely fine with just a refund, which should not be hard to do since he had an invoicing software for payment. He told me that issuing a refund electronically was impossible (really?) and to give him my address and that he would send a cashier's check. I did so and three weeks later, after we returned from our travels, no word and no response from Joel. I texted him again....and again....and again over the next two weeks. Each time I was met with no response except iMessage telling me that he had read my message. Only after letting him know that I would be writing about my experience on Yelp did he respond with an excuse (that for his privacy I won't share publicly) but no steps to return my payment. I finally gave up and began calling my credit card company to solve the issue. Not worth the headache to deal with someone with low integrity and who is so disorganized / irresponsible. I hired Joel for my company's graduation event on June 7, 2019 and we have yet to receive any photos. Since we worked with Joel in 2018, had a pleasant experience with him, and received some great photos, my company decided to pay him in full months prior to the event. On the day of the event, Joel & his assistant Stanley were late and it held up our event from starting on time. We take graduate class photos and line up our graduates before the ceremony begins. It has been almost two months since our event and we have not received our photos. I have reached out to Joel multiple times and left voicemails and sent e-mails. It takes days for him to respond with something on the lines of hold on a little bit longer. I have asked him, what happened to our photos? Were the photos deleted or was there a defective memory card? What is really going on? No response. Just "please hang on" a little longer response. I have offered to meet him and pick up a USB multiple times. Nothing happens. So as of today he took our money and ran. It seems as though others are in the similar situation with him. We had our family photoshoot done with Joel. It was our family of four, plus grandparents on both sides and auntie. Joel and his assistant Eva (?) were wonderful. We had a big party of 9 people, two of which were squirming kids 5 and under. Both of them were patient, gave us good direction on where to stand, how the lighting would look best and poor Joel almost lost his voice coaxing/making funny sounds for our little girls to look over.
