NOT GOOD. Just got an engine oil change and first time in 30 years of driving I got an explanation from this auto shop of how they charge you based on the weight of the synthetic oil the car needs. As Zach, the front desk guy, told me if your car uses 0W-30 synthetic oil, they will charge less than 5W-30. Has anyone in Rochester got this? Ironically, I called ahead and provided my car's year, model with the type of oil that I have been used for years which is full synthetic, on the phone they told me the amoun lesser than they charged without asking for VIN number as Zach said to know which weight of the oil. Bottom line is be careful to bring your car for service at this auto shop in Rochester, MN because they will find a way to charge you more with their "complex but not straight upfront" as simple as engine oil service. Surely they won't see me again. BTW, Zach gave me a long list of courtesy diagnosis recommended fixes in which I'm not sure I trust it due to what happened to oil change service I got. read more

I moved to Rochester about 6 years ago and from day one my family and I have done most of our tire and car repair business and this place. They always treated us nice and their service was spot on. They knew our names and were great people. I am not sure what happened, but after their expansion at the Civic Center Street expansion, things changed. You became a number and most of the previous front desk people were gone. They didn't become rude or unfriendly, they just didn't seem to care as much, at least that was my perception. On one of my appointments one of their employees, told me that that I had a problem with one of my front hydraulics or breaks? I just had my car serviced at the dealership and I told him, that I wanted to bring it back first, before any more work was done. The dealership confirmed that there was nothing wrong and I drove the car as normal without any issues. We all make mistakes, so I wasn't to concerned about it. I needed to have my winter tires put on, which are already on rims. In the past it was done without wait or hesitation. Now I am being told that I had to wait a week. Today my front tire went flat and I stopped by to have it fixed. I was told they can't fix it until next week? I don't know what happened since the expansion, maybe they got to busy and too big. read more

Always a pleasure getting our oil changes done here. The staff is friendly and helpful. I don't feel like they try to upsell me on anything unreasonable. Last visit my car key battery had stopped working, and they replaced it for free. Great small town service I feel comfortable trusting. read more

My husband's car did not run well. We brought his car in, and they got it taken of care of in less than 24 hours! My husband is super impressed with their work; he says "my car hasn't run this well since I got it!" The price hurt a little ($2,500), but hopefully he will get a couple more years out of his 2009 Nissan Versa. I highly recommend and will be back with my car if it ever needs anything! read more

Friendly and honest car repair. I have been going to Joe's Auto for 2 years now and I really like them. They will be clear and upfront with me with the cost of any repairs. They also give you a detailed report sent to you from your visit with pictures and recommendations. They are not going to push you into anything or try to upsell anything to you. They have a convenient shuttle system so they will drop you off and pick you up if you leave your car with them for the day. I called a couple of days ago asking about tire prices and the employee gave me a very thorough explanation of options. Given that my tire size is somewhat rare, he said he would give me a call the next day to see if he could come up with any additional tire options for me. He followed up the next day, with lots of information, great detailed explanations and his honest recommendations (based on my budget). Tip: call and book your appointment at least two weeks in advance as they fill up quickly! read more

There was a confusion with the first appointment and I had to wait another week, but it was cleared up quickly and I was able to get the service done at a reasonable price. We are from out of state & discovered we needed new tires the week of appts at Mayo. They gave a great quote online Tuesday nite, talked to them Wednesday am, they ordered tires & my tires were replaced on Thursday. Also, they discovered another issue from an accident I had several months prior that had not been discovered by our local repair shop that caused early tire degradation. I called to get an estimate and I was hung up on. I was totally taken advantaged off. They wanted to change me almost 800 dollars on a wheel bearing change. I explained how my dad is a mechanic and told me it should be NO MORE than 350 with parts and labor but he is 9 hours away. They told me to get it fixed by him and hung up on me. I had a slow leak in a tire that was driving me crazy...had gone on for a long time. I checked lots of tire store reviews (including Yelp), and decided to call Joe's Auto & Tire. The guy who answered the phone (Matt), was friendly, and I set up an appointment for the next day to get the tire fixed. While waiting for the tire repair, I talked with Kelly (also friendly and helpful) about maybe buying some new tires in the near future...and got a good price from her. The work was finished quickly, I saw two guys looking at the leaky tire and seemed to be giving it a thorough look-over, the price was reasonable, and when I looked out into the service area, the shop was clean, and the guys looked like they knew what they were doing. Great service! We needed to buy winter tires and have them installed. When I called to make an appointment, Kelly walked me through to figure out the right tires for our car and make sure they were in stock. I told her on the phone I would be waiting for the car in the shop, and she said it should take about 2 hours. The day of our appointment, they had a number of other customers but were done with our car in about 90 minutes. They nicely bagged and loaded our other tires into the car, and we're very happy with our new tires and our experience at Joe's. read more

Friend had a coupon for a free check engine light scan and still was charged an arm and a leg for extra inspections she didn't even ask for. And it took them 3 hours just to do diagnostics. And they were giving me all these things 'wrong' with her car that wasn't relevant with why the check engine light was on. Poor customer service as well. read more
