Then when he picked it up he was told they found several things wrong but they were not specific. he asked to talk to the mechanic who had worked on it so he could get more details and was told to just go away because he was to busy working to talk to him about what he had found. read more

I needed to have the hub and bearing assembly (w/tone ring) replaced on my vehicle. I explained what I needed and was quoted $22.99 to have my vehicle looked at, which was a reasonable price so I made the appointment. Upon bringing my vehicle in, I again repeated what I needed, but the service man (Mike) stated I now would need to have a "courtesy check" and pay $119 to have it confirmed that this was the part I needed. After driving the vehicle and hooking it up to their device (about 10 minutes), Mike confirmed I was correct and it was the part I needed. Mike then let me know the part would cost $301.99. I asked if this was a higher end part and how much the price difference would be for a lower end part, he said, "the price difference is only $30". They went ahead and started service and the mechanic came out to show me my damage part. I had time so I googled the part and was shocked to find they had these parts available for $45-$120. I walked to the service desk and showed Mike what I had found I was very disappointed he had quoted there's only a $30 price difference.His response to by inquisition was, we offer awarrantee on it. I shared, "so do many of the sites in finding these parts on." Mike ended up leaving the service desk when it came time for me to pay. $652 with parts, labor and shop supplies for 1.5 hours of service. I wish I could say he was just uninformed/unknowledgeable, but I've now read other reviews of this same staff member and believe his actions are very intentional and predatory. I will not be bringing my vehicle to Firestone Rochester- North for any new services. Mike is a very misleading and dishonest representative of this company. read more

Don't take your business here. I had this shop put new tires on my truck. Was told the driver side outer tie rod was bad and so when I felt a vibration driving away with the new tires on, I just thought it was the tie rod. Changed the tie rod and the vibration was still there. Got the alignment done by a different shop, because I thought the price for alignment at Firestone was way overpriced, and was told by this other shop that the lower ball joints were going bad. Changed those out and the vibration was still there. Finally realized I should call Firestone and have them check the wheel balance again because maybe that's all this vibration was. They told me because so much time had passed I needed to pay for them to check their work. This has never happened to me, it's dishonest, a shop should always backup their own work and not charge to double check. read more

My daughter's car wouldn't start. I recommended Firestone because I have had great experience with Austin Firestone. She called and asked for an estimate to replace an alternator and they said bring it in. They told her a new battery and alterator plus labor would be $1600. They refused to return her car until she paid thrm $35 to look at it. She took it to my race car friend who fixed it for $30. Just a belt and cables. The person I spoke with was vey condescending and rude about it. If planning to use Firestone Rochester, go to Austin instead. read more

Don't take your business here. I have been taking my work vehicles to the Rochester MN North location for years. I thought they always took good care me, but I didn't question many of the repairs or when they told me I needed new tires even when it had only been 23,000 miles on a pair one time. It was a fleet vehicle and as long as it was approved I didn't care. When it came time for my wife's van to need tires I had her call around and told her to call Mike. He'll take good care of you. He was able to get her in the same day and I thought that was great. When she got the van back she noticed the rims were all chewed up around the edges and down 2 to 3 inches. We acknowledge there was some oxidation, but was pretty minimal. When I saw it I agreed. We had our Mechanic look and he agreed also and pointed out he would never put the balance weights on the outside of a aluminum wheel. She called and they told her to bring it back in. I made sure she talked to Mike again figuring he would understand or come up with a way to fix the issue. Boy was I wrong. He told her they were that way when we brought it in and that his machine wouldn't have done that to her wheels. we had just taking them all off her van the night before checking her brakes and got a very good look at each one. He got her so upset she ended up cursing at him and called him names. She never does that. She called me very distraught. I told her to take her phone to Mike and I tried to tell him the same thing about the rims. He wouldn't listen to me either. He couldn't explain to me why they would have gotten that way, except maybe when/if they cleaned them off with a wire brush. I just conceded to the discussion. I asked him why they put the weights on the outside and he said that's what the machine told them to do. I asked if he would be willing to at least rebalance them and put the weights on the inside. He said he didn't want to deal with my Wife anymore and we could take it to the Apache location. I feel Women have a harder time taking there vehicles to these places and being respected. I don't know if I can get her to even go to another place after this. She could barley get herself to another appointment after this. I saw this happen with another lady that came in about a rim she was ordering. I don't know what kind of interaction they had before this, but she went from 0 to 60 in about 60 seconds. I thought she was being out of line and even stuck up for Mike. After this I'm not sure she was being out of line. We plan on calling Firestone directly and letting them know. read more

I bought a set of four tires there and a short time later, one of them was all torn up. They told me it was due to a defective shock and I asked why they would put new tires on when a shock absorber was no good. No real answer, and did not honor the tire warranty at all so I went elsewhere. A while later I got a slow leak and went in to have it repaired and they were going to charge me $20 to have it fixed. Again, the warranty was useless. SInce the tire is no longer worth even $20, I just fixed it myself with one of those plugs for less than a dollar and will be buying a new set soon, but not from this place. As another commenter stated, Discount Tire is known for fixing flats for free; my son had two fixed for nothing and hadn't even purchased the tires there! read more

They closed at 7 and would not normally take new business but understanding my situation, they got me a new tire at a great price and had me on my way by 7pm. I recently had an exceptional experience at Firestone that I feel compelled to share. I was leaving my workplace in Minneapolis for the day, set to make a short trek up to Rochester to spend a day and a half visiting my boyfriend, when my tire pressure light went on. My tire pressure light sometimes goes on (randomly it seems), when nothing is actually wrong. It happened a few months prior, when the tire pressure light went on, I stopped by a gas station to fill up the culprit tire, and continued on my way with no ill aftereffects. I thought this was the same thing, and in my haste and excitement to visit my boyfriend, I continued onto Rochester without further inspection. By the time I got to Rochester, it was dark and I just went in. The next day I mostly stayed home, until we decided to go out for dinner. It was when we were driving, when my boyfriend asked me if I heard that funny noise (a repetitive noise between a clunk and soft swish), which I did. When we went to inspect it, my tire was completely and utterly flat. Amazingly, it was still drivable, and we quickly drove to the nearest Tires plus. We got there around 6:15pm, waited about 5 minutes for the customer in front of us to wrap up, and then were told that there was nothing they could do for me tonight since they close at 7pm. I was in a bit of a rush, since I had planned on leaving Rochester at 6:00am the next morning to make it back to Minneapolis in time for work at 7:30am or so. Luckily there was a Firestone nearby so we went there next. We arrived at the Firestone around 6:25, and told them we were there for a tire repair/potential replacement. The man behind the counter, Justin, shook his head and said there wasn't anything he could do for me tonight. My boyfriend then made a short case about how I was from out of town and out of time. Surprisingly, it worked! Justin starting typing my information into the system, and said he would look at it, but that he wouldn't have enough time to do a replacement, only a repair. After about 25 minutes of waiting while watching Family Guy in the seating area, another man brings my tire in and there is a HUGE tear in it. He sort of scoops up tiny bits of gravel from inside the tire, that must have gotten in during my long drive up from Minneapolis, to further illustrate how bad the situation is. It is very obvious to all 4 of us that the tire is very much beyond repair. My face flushed in embarrassment and shame that I didn't notice how bad it was sooner. Justin remarks that the exact make and model of my tire has been discontinued, but refers me to a very close match. I ask how much it is, and something in my face or voice must have reflected how.. awful or worried I felt. Justin was incredibly kind and compassionate. He says that he would hope to be treated well if he was in my situation, and offers me a 20% discount on the tire. Now, I have no idea how tire sales work, I had driven a company car for the last 6 or so years and never had to worry about car related costs before this year. However, I felt very comforted by Justin, and felt that he took care of me as a customer and as a fellow human being. I'm so appreciative that he took me in as a customer at the last hour, fixed my issue, offered me a discount, and was kind and compassionate throughout. I took my Mom's car in today because the tire was low and I was in the area and this was the closest place to have it checked. Turns out to be a "bubble" leak and he couldn't find it, suggested new tires. Long story short, they charged me $20. Brought my car in for a oil change, complete car inspection, and to see why my check engine light was on. My car checked out with no problems except for a broken thermostat. I decided to have the thermostat replaced at a later date. Three weeks later I brought my car back in to have thermostat replaced. On this visit I was informed that the stabilizer bar was cracked all the way through, my transmission lines were broken through and leaking, and my brake pads were worn all the way down. I was informed by the manager that the technician that inspected my car the first time was not very experienced and probably missed some things (even though he rotated my tires which provides direct visualization of the brake pads and rotors). These problems are very noticeable and failure to notice and fix them would have lead to very expensive future repairs to my vehicle. In addition to these issues, my rotors were replaced ($173 + around $60 in labor) without my knowledge or permission (replaced for hotspots which is a minor problem unless the car is symptomatic), another problem the initial technician overlooked. Mike, the store manager, was apologetic and very nice when I approached him with my issues. He apologized and we worked out a deal on my bill. I would not recommend this place for your auto care. read more

I took my vehicle here for an oil change. It's an older vehicle so it is of course not in as perfect running order as a newer one. The first thing the guy does when he gets in it is race around the corner like some drifter wanna be and into the oil change bay. First off these are customer vehicles you are driving right past the customers in the huge glass waiting area. If you are going to do that crap, don't do it in clear view of your supervisor and the person that is paying for your service. Also if the hood isn't closing properly, don't repeatedly slam the hood that it is audible in the area where I am waiting. That is how stuff gets ruined. Also when you look like you are constipated when barely eeking out "have a nice day." with the smirk and essence of douche, just save yourself the trouble and don't say anything. The only positive that I can find in my experience is that it was pretty quick and I did have a coupon for 20 bucks off. Otherwise I will be taking my vehicle elsewhere. read more

I took my wife's car into Firestone primarily because it was open on a Saturday and her G6 steering was creaking and grinding. Being an unusual hit-or-miss issue, we were patient with the Firestone team as they diagnosed the issue. The issue was resolved successfully but presented a secondary vibration in the rack & pinion. The team didn't hesitate to invite the car back in. They looked it over, suggested resolution, and on complimentary terms again fixed the vibration (something that took hours to diagnose but didn't ask for further payment). This subsequently had me take my Camry in - which needed a new timing chain. The kit was installed, the manager Mike graciously price-matched the service against a local shop's estimate, and the required parts came in within 24 hours and the service done the very next day. Firestone of Rochester comes off as a very skilled shop, knowledgeable techs, and a manager that goes out of his way to do things right, make things right, and make absolutely certain the customer leaves with a sense of shop loyalty. Hoping my cars don't need further fixes, but when and if they do and for all regular tuning/tires I will be returning due to how I've been treated there during my two past experiences. read more

Consumer beware; While in Rochester Mn. a city about 35 miles from Austin which is the town I live in. My van suddenly died, so I called Triple A and had it towed.Having no clue where to take it, I ask the tow driver . He said he's taken lots of cars to Firestone. Feeling lost, I said ok . The mechanic said it was the alternator and that it would cost approx: $400.00 dollars. Feeling lost, I agreed all the time thinking that is outrageous. While waiting I called Advance Auto and asked the price for an alternator. He said . He said around $125.00 I told him Firestone is charging me 325 dollars. He said that is a constant complaint from people about Firestone. He also told me that Firestone and Tire Plus is one in the same and owned by Firestone. So again buyer beware, I understand places of business have a lot of overhead, but to make $200.00 on a product they have absolutely nothing invested in is highway robbery ( no pun intended ) I had a bad experience with them before, but desperation trumps your better judgment.
