I had a feeling that this time around my car issues would cost $1000 since a major tune up for my car is around $400 plus my brakes. So I took it to Joe and he told me that my back brakes were the problem. I told him to fix my brakes and do a major maintenance service. When I picked up my car, my heart was beating rapidly thinking, okay this will cost close to a G. When it was time to pay, the total cost was $277!!! Wow, I'm definitely coming back here. read more

I brought my car to Joe yesterday afternoon because I need to get a smog check but my check engine light is on. He was slammed but said he would check it out for me if I could leave my car that night (if he could get to it that night he would, otherwise first thing in the morning). So I left it. I picked it up the next afternoon and got a really honest answer from him about my car status - that something is wrong that the dealer would need to fix because its probably a defect, and that I should watch out about taking it to a non-dealer who would charge me too much money - and he didn't charge me anything. I love that I felt like my car was safe over night and also that he was looking out for me. He didn't want to rake up a bill for me or recommend services I don't need, and was frank about what needed to be done. I've been servicing my 2008 accord as recommended by the dealer. However last time I took it to Honda (which was only 18 months after purchasing it certified used from Honda) I was told I needed to spend more than $300 in changing fluids. I felt like there was no value in the $60 maintenance checkup I was paying for so I took some friendly advice and brought it to Joes for my next routine maintenance. I asked for tire rotation and balance, and oil change and anything else he thought it needed. Not only were Joes fees reasonable but I felt like he was taking car of my car the way he would choose to service his own vehicle. He took my car right then without an appointment and when I returned 2 hrs later everything was completed and he even showed me the discarded filters (AC and engine) that he replaced so I would understand why they needed replacing. He was kind of shocked that they were as bad as they were and I inferred that it was something that should have been checked at my previous maintainer appointments at Honda. I paid only $140 for this visit which included: oil change, tire rotation and balance, new AC filter, new engine filter, labor and tax - out the door with same day service. I've never found an auto repair center that I trust as much as this place. Also, 1 week prior Joe fixed up my boyfriend's brake issue on his truck for $180 in which he had been quoted $1500 at a century city repair center. I went to Joe with a dash light on my truck and intermittent stalling. Truck hadn't been there an hour and he called and said the the computer was giving him a code that was dealership only stuff, but if I wanted he could try and blow out the injectors to see if it worked - no promises. Got truck back, paid him $35 and it ran for a while longer before it went dead and went to the dealership where it turned out to be one of those fabulous "GM SUCKS" problems that should never have happened. In the end, GM still sucks. Their dealership which I will be giving a blistering review to soon also sucks, and Joe charged me $35 in an effort to stave off the very expensive and inevitable disaster that we all knew was coming. Upside is that when I did pay a billion dollars to get the truck fixed it's now quite a bit faster because of the injector cleaning - so the $35 was well spent anyhow. read more

Joe is really great! I took my car in for an oil change after reading all the great yelp reviews. My Prius calls for synthetic oil (which I didn't even know). When I called him for a quote, he knew right away that I'd need it and I confirmed with the Toyota dealership just to make sure he wasn't lying to me. I brought my car to his shop around 10:30 and he said he'd have it ready for me by noon. When I dropped off the car, he popped my hood to show me that the cap called for 0W-20 oil and even showed me the type of oil he'd be using in my car (Mobil 1 full synthetic). I had called Valvoline earlier in the day and their quote for the synthetic blend was the same price as full synthetic at Joe's. I walked out of Joe's with a bill for $82.35 that included the oil change + filter, tire rotation, and waste disposal versus the $89.99 for just an oil change at Valvoline! Last night, I was lucky enough that my car broke down near his shop otherwise I would have never known about this place. I met up with Joe this morning to let him know what was going on and 2 hours later he called to tell me that my engine was cracked and it would need to be replaced, costing me around 3 - 4 K. After delivering the bad news, he informs me that my engine was recalled by Honda and I could get it replaced for free as long as I take it to the dealership. I was absolutely floored with his honesty and moral ethics. He could of easily made a good chunk of $$ out of me but instead, he saved me thousands of dollars. People like Joe are so rare nowadays. Look no further for your car servicing needs in El Segundo. I found Joe on Yelp, after getting a ridiculous quote from a Mazda dealer. Joe was pleasant and told me straight away what needed to be fixed and what could wait. I've now gone to Joe 3 times and every time he's pleasant, not at all pushy and honest about services my car really needs. I've had plenty of bad experience with mechanics trying to up-sell me on something I don't need, but Joe is the opposite of that. I had an electrical issue with my car (failed fuse box) and after getting a $1500 quote from my dealer (ouch!!), called Joe for advice. Joe was honest and told me that he can't help me with that and actually advised me that I'm better off fixing it at the dealer and having insurance on repairs. Other places I called to were willing to find a used fuse box to save $200-300, but with no guarantee or insurance that it will work. I took Joe's advice and went with the dealer. It's a small place, so call ahead. I always leave my car there and just pick it up later, but I'm sure you can set up an appointment with Joe and wait for your car there. The shop is in an industrial area, so there is absolutely nothing around (walking distance). Therefore, bring something to read/do while your car is getting serviced. read more

I took my car to Joe's for a simple oil change and alignment, and I asked to see if he could identify a weird noise that I've had for a very long time (maybe a year). I've asked other mechanic shops about this noise in the past, even the Lexus dealership, but none of them have ever given me an answer, just that they didn't notice it. So I figured it was no problem. Joe found the problem within 30min. Apparently, I had a bad wheel bearing that was badly in need of replacement. He said my wheels could lock up on me at any time. So while it hurt to shell out an additional $400+ of repairs and replacements, I guess it's cheaper than the hospital bill if I got into an accident. ...Joe saved my life. lol. but seriously, this is a good guy and knows his stuff. read more

As previous Yelpers have said it, Joe is truly an honest (and awesome) mechanic. I brought my car in for front brakes (pads and rotors). A previous mechanic charged me an arm and a leg for my rear brakes since the rotors were rusted and labor took longer than expected. I knew this would have been an issue for the front brakes since my car experienced salt and snow living in Chicago. He said they were difficult to take off, but he barely charged me extra for labor. I had taken my car to the dealership to get a quote for brakes. Without even looking at anything, they quoted me $800 for the brakes! I knew that was entirely too much, so I looked for a mechanic here on Yelp and saw that Joe got great reviews. I decided to give him a try. Upon first glance, the place is a bit of an eye sore, but then again, it's a mechanic shop. And honeslty, I don't care about the appearance as long as they do a good job. Joe was very straightforward. He told me I only needed to get the front 2 brakes replaced (not all 4)! He even showed me where they had worn down compared to my back brakes. He replaced them quickly and for only $180!!! I can't believe the dealership wanted to charge me $800! I was very impressed with Joe's honesty, straightforwardness and quickness. Joe's Auto Services is the best place ever. Joe is super cool, not out to get your money. My check engine light came on, I had my car checked at two places, one popular, the other Joe's. Joe performed my diagnostic for $40 LESS than the other auto place but came back with the same diagnoses. When I asked Joe how much he would charge to repair my issue, his price was $500 LESS than my other quote. Of course I said, well let's fix it right now. Joe said, I would like to reset the light and have you drive around and see if it comes back on, sometimes this light is just a fluke thing. If the light comes back on, I will not charge you for the new diagnostic to ensure it is the same issue. He said, drive home and if the light comes on, do NOT pull over to the side of the road and do not panic. You are safe. Just drive home and come back to me. He said you could drive around with this issue for 10 years, it has nothing to do with the cars driving ability. It is a smog issue. You won't pass a smog and he showed me the code that the diagnostic machine administered. He said, if you go somewhere else to get the car checked if this code comes up, it is the same issue I am telling you about. (First mechanic I ever met to do something like that) The light came back on about three days letter. I took the car back to Joe about 3 weeks later (had to save some coins up) Joe fixed it the same day. When I came to pick up the car, he took me over to the old part. Told me why he was keeping it. Showed me my new part AND rotated my tires for free (he said since I had it up, I noticed one of the tires was wearing) and remembered he said he would do the additional diagnostic for free. Since going to Joe's I have sent three of my coworkers and all three ladies have been just as satisfied. I love Joe because he said, flat out. I am not here to scare you like some mechanics will do. WHAT THE HELL. I AM SO LIVID AT THIS AUTO REPAIR PLACE. STAY AWAY PEOPLE. Again- the oddball bad review amongst a flood of 5 star reviews, however because of this Auto Shop, I wasted so much money and I AM PISSED. What happened to me is completely unacceptable and if I had the time, I would file a small claims court claim to try to get back the money I missed out on. Here it begins. On Tuesday evening, driving home, my car started making a weird noise, like a mini helicopter inside my car. That made me worried because I have a 30 mile commute to work every day so on Wednesday, I took it to Joe's since it's near my work in the hopes that they would fix it while I was at work or at least diagnose the issue. Since it's near LAX, it was easy enough for me to get an Uber(cab) from the repair shop to my work. Mind you- I paid to take a cab to work and then back to the auto shop. So anyways, after I dropped it off at 9AM, I waited and waited for them to call me so finally around 11:30 I called to see what the issue was so they could fix it/have it done before end of day. Anyways, I called and Joe said, oh not to worry, it's just your wheel bearing, we can fix it for you for $250 and I agreed. I was relieved that it wasn't too expensive and overall, an easy fix. So I went on my day with plans to pick up the car at 4PM. Around 1 PM I had a missed call , I was in a meeting and I guess it was Joe's calling me. I forgot about the call and went to go pick up my car at 4PM. When I got there, Joe gave me my keys and said that all the wheel bearings are fine and that it's probably my transmission but he's not sure. SO nothing was fixed and nothing was done- basically I wasted my time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So at this point panic instilled and I drove home nearly in tears. Was not really planning on spending over $2,000 so that was horrific news. I drove my car home anyways even though it was a risk. Luckily I got home safe but I was extremely stressed out, worrying about what to do the next day. Luckily my company is flexible, and I told them there was no way I was coming in Thursday as I had to deal with taking my car to a transmission place to get it checked out. Already though, I am expecting to spend $2,000 on a transmission, plus another $500 for a rental car for 10 days so you can imagine the stress I am going through!!!!!!!!!! I took my car to a place in Burbank called Elmer's Transmission. Elmer is an angel. He only does transmission and when I drove him in my car, he said that it was either the wheel bearing or maybe transmission but he needed to lift the car and look. About 20 minutes after dropping it off, Elmer called and said that it was the left wheel bearing and he would change $300 to fix it. I was very skeptical but coming from a guy who only does transmission, he told me my tranny was perfect and didn't need any work. He changed the left wheel bearing and my car drives perfectly!!!!!!!! The noise is gone, there is no issue when driving it anymore and I am so relieved. Anyways- Joe told me he spent over an hour on my car, inspecting all the wheel bearings (by the way he thought it was the right one not the left that was actually the one that was busted) But Joe clearly lied, because had he opened up the wheel to actually check it out, he would have noticed that the left one was nearly shattered. I do not recommend this auto shop to anyone. What happened to me should not have happened. I took time off of work due to Joe's laziness and lies. He lied that he inspected the car and caused me unnecessary stress. read more

This is the best mechanic in LA--Hands down. I don't even live in El Segundo, but I make the drive. I bought a new car recently, so I don't see Joe anymore than my 3,000 mi maintenance, but when I had my older car I was in here all the time. I had a transmission issue with my previous car that 3 different mechanics tried to charge me anywhere from 1,700- 2,000 to fix. I took it to Joe and he found that there was nothing wrong with my transmission, it was just the 3$ plastic vacuum pump attached to my transmission. He ordered me the part and put everything back together, I think I paid 25 bucks, so basically this guy saved me 2 grand. I would have to say this guy is probably the LAST HONEST MECHANIC IN LA. read more

Sure, Jiffy Lube is a little cheaper but why risk your sanity and your car's health? The last time I went to Jiffy Lube, they snarled at my coupon, tried to upsell me a bunch of stuff and dirtied the seats of my car. And my story is minor compared to a few of the horror stories I've read from other Yelpers. Joe and his staff are professional, reliable and efficient. I went in for a standard oil change and that's precisely what I got. $30. No upsells. No shenanigans. And no dirty car seats! Like I said, you can use the $20 Jiffy Lube coupon. But you're basically handing your car over to a bunch of shady repairmen. Cough up the extra $10 for Joe. Good customer service is so worth the extra money. read more

The reviews are all true! Joe is probably the nicest, most honest, mechanic you will ever come across! I took my car in after months of ignoring my screeching brakes thinking this was going to cost some serious bucks. I told him what was going on, he quickly surveyed my car, and said that he could save my rotors and it would be $180. NICE! While I was out and he was working on my car he called to tell me that he found my shocks were totally shot. It was going to be an extra $400 so I was hesitant but when I came back to pick up my car he took the time to show me exactly what was wrong and explain to me how it affected my car (I don't know anything about cars, which is why my wallet and I are afraid of mean mechanics). Anyways, he said that if I didn't replace the shocks now it wasn't going to be the end of the world and I wouldn't drive out and crash my car but it's something I should think about doing soon. After he pointed it out I totally knew what he was saying and had noticed my car was more difficult to control especially after hitting bumps. Overall Joe is awesome and I totally trust what he says. I plan on having him put new shocks on my car soon and will continue to see him as long as he is in business! read more

I think I found a mechanic I'll use for the rest of my life (unless I leave So. Cali). I brought my car in for a brake job, knowing fully well I didn't need 1, but ... my brakes squealed like a stuck pig from a poor job done at another place (DON'T ever go to the FIRESTONE located in either Buena Park on Orangethorpe or the 1 in El Segundo on Sepulveda) and prior to coming to Joe I had taken my car to a dealership for them to check out so I knew going in what I needed didn't need. Make a long story short, Joe really didn't sell me on things I didn't need. Per dealership I didn't need tires, when I asked Joe he didn't try to sell me any, said my tires were fine; per dealership my back and front brakes were fine (they said the squealing would be annoying but wouldn't impact the performance of the car) and Joe told me I didn't need any new brakes and et cetera. So I had my front brake pads replaced (with manufacturer parts! no more squealing!), oil changed and overall inspection for $207 total OH and he took time to show me the old parts - that was cool. I will drive my pretty blue car all the way from DT LA to Joe's from now on for everything... I wish we could duplicate Joe :) read more

Joe has done a lot of things on my car. An honest mechanic with very good service. Everything he has done were good. A few exceptions. This is not a tire shop. I had to get my wheel balancing done twice because the first one was a little off. Also, he won't know very specific manufacturer related problems or diagnose a situation that is very specific to your brand - that's to be expected as this shop is a generalist. Otherwise, I've been going to him for the last 5 years with good satisfaction. ps. they don't do AC either. pss. not very good with electrical. couldn't replace a relay for my high beams when other mechanics easily could. read more
