I got this recommendation via a co-worker who's family has been taking their Lexus to them for years. I would actually give them no stars. Took my beloved 1999 Toyota 4-runner there for service about a year and a half ago for some brake maintenance, and they totally jacked up my car. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After agreeing on the estimate then they took DAYS to fix it - would not call back with eta, etc.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] What should have been a 2 day fix ended up 4 or 5 days. When I got the car back, the right front wheel locked up on me to the point I could barely drive it - hazardous. Brought it to my neighborhood mechanic and he pulled a large screw that was wedged in the wheel well. That, and the fact that the cruise control cable was also unconnected and dangling in the engine. I didn't ask them to fix the cruise control! FORGET THE DEALERSHIPS!! Went to Local TOYOTA Dealership they wanted me to $$$ just to diagnose each issue; I had 3 issues with Camry. I looked on Yelp, and Toyo-Tech was highly recommended. I called spoke with Jeremiah I told him the issues the car was having, he told me to bring car same day. Jessie ( amazing mechanic) was able to address all 3 issues in less than 2 hours and for much less than a diagnosis at the DEALERSHIP!! Car is running great! This place is amazing the knowledge they have on cars is SUPERB along with the CUSTOMER SERVICE. They take the time to answer all your questions, and explain the issues. Great place and great folks! We took our Camry here for repair, and they took the liberty of polishing up a large, preexisting scrape making it almost invisible for no charge. It seems they just love what they do and are very skilled at doing it. Also, I used to dread having my car's warranty run out, so I would avoid buying used cars altogether. Not anymore. This place is amazing. Wife is 8 months prego. She is driving like a crazy person and does something to my toyota prius. I have no idea what is wrong other than a scraping sound. I call Toyo -tech and they say bring it in. I bring it in and while I am on a call, they bring it out and tell me some bolts were missing and they just fix it and bring it out. First, let me state.. I did not have any work performed here. That being said, I have passed by this place about 100 times, I am very picky about who works on my car but my go-to guy is too far and inconvenient for a oil change. My car is 18 years old and hitting 200k miles, I have never had any major issues with it yet ( Lexus) I dropped by to check and see if they were able to take my car for a oil change and a general check-up. Jodi was really nice and honest and said he could not get it done today. Had I not been lugging around the oil ( I planned to do the service myself) and been a month overdue, I would have said no problem. Jodi recommended to go across the street as he knew the people over there. I can't think of anything I would rather do less than to take my car to a mechanic. I bought a Toyota for this reason. I know little to nothing when it comes to working on a car so whenever I take my car in I always feel like I am getting the run-around (there are other words I would like to use but i want to keep this PG). Keith and his crew at Toyotech are honest, up front, great at communicating and fairly priced. They talk about your car in easy to understand terms, they let you know what should be done and what could be done to your car depending on how much you can afford. I took my car in for some new belts and an oil pressure switch. They fixed it right away, quoted a decent price and had the car ready in less than a day. Seriously, the most honest mechanics in the South Bay! I've brought my car in twice and I'll never go anywhere else. They'll give you a list of what has to be done and what can wait. I took my car in for suspension work since I was about to get new tires and they had told me the shocks and struts we old and soft in October, but I should wait to do the work. Forget the dealerships...even if you have warranties! OK...maybe not because free is free. But this is the place to go for straight shooting, knowledgeable Toyota (and a few other makes) mechanics. True you may pay a few extra bucks for things like oil changes compared to those quickie lubes but the relationship this business will develop with you and your vehicle is well worth it. I've been going to a shop up in Hollywood for years. But, I live in the South Bay and it was time to try some place down here. I looked for a shop with good reviews, because as a female, sometimes I get taken advantage of. My dad taught me well, but I don't know all of the ins and outs of car repaid. So, in looking for a shop, I found Toyo-Tech, with all the 5 star reviews. I decided to take my car there for an oil change. I was pleasantly surprised when I was called with the list of things to do. Yes, it was a list. But, the list was prioritized, and then re-prioritized once I let Keith know that within the next 3 weeks, I would be making a drive to Seattle. So, items moved on the list. There were also things that weren't a priority, so the bigger ticket item took precedence. The main thing is that Keith & Jody listened to me, and understood that sometimes people don't have $1000 in cash to drop on a car, randomly at the end of the month. I went to Toyo Tech after reading the yelp reviews, for a second opinion on recommended ("urgent") repairs by Manhattan Beach Toyota. The recommendations included replacing the battery and gaskets on transmission, oil pan and struts. At TT, I met Jody, who spent about 30 minutes inspecting each of these. Jody recommended no urgency and that I come back for repairs "when I have time." How nice it is to have a trustworthy and considerate mechanic nearby. I will most certainly come back "when I have time." Jody's quote was far more reasonable than MB Toyota's too. I guess MB Toyota needs to find a way to pay for their on-going renovation. read more

i have a very mixed feeling to write a negative review on a place that has such a flawless yelp reputation; i'll be as detailed as possible to tell my story and i hope i can help the fellow yelpers. 10,000 miles ago, we moved to this new area and toyo-tech. i don't know a lot about cars so i would really like to find a mechanic that i can absolute trust because i'll pretty much do whatever they recommend. there was no problem with the oil change. the price was fair. jody was a bit sarcastic whenever i asked him something. a smart alec if you will. never really directly answered my questions. he arrogantly made fun of my prior mechanic's work, implying he was not very good and that he cut corners, even though i never had a problem with my previous mechanic for over 6 years. at the end of the oil change, he recommended 1. brake fluid flush, 2. "transmission oil dirty", 3 change belt, and that i go back in 3,000 miles to get the work done. i asked him if it had to 3,000 - "why not 5,000 so we can do everything together?" he looked at me with this are-you-kidding-me look and repeated his affirmative "3,000". i had a bad vibe from jody so i went to different place also with a great yelp review, 5,000 miles a later. oil change was cheaper and the new mechanic told me no need to change any of the three recommended works. i thought maybe that's just the new guy's way to retain his customer. now two more oil changes later, i asked the new guy again if the above three items needed to be done and the answer was still a no. the new mechanic even showed me the oil and said because i used synthetic oil last time there won't be any need for maybe another 10,000 miles. while i understand personal judgement how oil/belt look can be variable. i'm not convinced the assessment how good oil/belt look can be over 20,000 miles apart. so jody either doesn't know how to judge brake fluid/transmission oil/belt or he was not being honest with me and i suspect it's the latter. or maybe he's super aggressive with changing things out. if you know cars or don't mind spending extra money (i have no evidence that jody is not competent) then jody is your guy. but if i had to choose between a not-so-brilliant but honest mechanic and a brilliant but not so honest one, i'd much rather choose the former. read more

Like so many reviewers, I went to Toyotech with some apprehension due to past experience at other car service facilities. About four years ago, at the recommendation of a friend of a friend, I took my Highlander in when the dealer insisted I needed four new tires. Keith and Jody checked it out, confirmed that I DID need new tires and explained and showed me why. AND they didn't try to sell me the tires themselves. Since then, I've been a regular customer. I trust them. They are friendly, knowledgeable, NOT pushy. As others have said, they are fair, have given me excellent guidance on what to do, and prioritizing repairs. I echo other customers that I will not go anywhere else, and if/when my teenager gets a car, a Toyota or Honda is preferred BECAUSE I can go to Toyotech to maintain it. Needed an oil change and standard 15,000 mile check up. I was so prepared to give these guys 5stars. Ken was super helpful over the phone and the shop was orderly and everyone was nice while dropping off the car. They quoted be an unbeatable, great price (in the past I was going to Toyota dealer in Manhattan Beach, and I am just tired of spending so much money and so little work) They checked in with me over the phone a couple of times before any work was done and kept me informed during the entire process, I am so thankful for this. I was told be car would be ready for pick-up in about 15 minutes. I showed up 30 minutes later, they said they were test driving the car one last time to make sure the alignment was right. About 15 minutes later, a guy pulled up, got out of my car with a bag of take-out food, and when asked acted like he had never been told to check the alignment on this "test drive." They totally used my car, blasting the AC, no plastic or paper seat protector, to go and get food!!? I was so disappointed, up until that point this was going to be my lifelong Toyota garage. I thought the price was right. I thought they were great people. But then they used my car to get their lunch. read more

I was told by Manhattan Beach Toyota that my daughter's '95 Corolla needed to have the front lower control arms replaced at an estimated cost of $969. I decided to take it to Toyo-Tech which quoted a price of $750. About 2 hours later, I got a call with the news that the front lower control arms were fine and did not need to be replaced. They did recommend that the lug nuts be replaced which I had done. The total cost was $32, including a tire rotation. I was very pleased that Toyo-Tech saved me from an expensive, unnecessary repair.
