Went with my gal to see the band Amahjra. Had a great time and got a few drinks and chicken strips. They do an excellent job of keeping the tables clean and clear of food when you finish. Leo came by and cleaned our table off. Unfortunately I had removed my lower partial denture to eat and I wrapped it up in a napkin. I wasn't paying attention and Leo grabbed our baskets and empty drinks for us. About 30 minutes later my gal says where is your denture? Oh NO!!!!! IT GOT THROWN AWAY!!! So I found Leo and told him to see if he remembered which garbage can it may have been tossed in. We went to the first one he apologized but it wasn't his fault. I dug in and couldn't find it in the first can and it was a mess. Nasty! But no denture. He says must be the can behind the bar. I expected him to bring it out for me to dig through. Nope Leo dives in digging through the trash and about half way in the nasty mess he suddenly pops up with my denture in hand!!!!! Hands it to me. Amazed he didn't hesitate to help find it. And apologized for taking it. It's was his fault and I appreciate his help BIG TIME! Saved me about $1700. Couldn't believe we found it. Can't say thanks enough for the effort. It's a jam. Went on a Sunday night for a comedy show. Sound was great. The people working were busting their ass off with a smile. The crowd was great and friendly. Drinks, dang, 2 long drinks for 10 bucks, pitcher of beer for 12. Huge plate of chicken wings for 15 bucks, burgers I heard we're also great. Parking is stupid, not sure much can be done about it. Location is a bit on the outskirts for chico. Its a bit dark inside. 21+ on Fri and sat only, but not sure I'm ready to bring the kids. But dang, 3 burgers for 20 bucks on Monday! Loved the food. It was a bit dark and the music was a bit loud for a Thursday night in a mostly empty bar, but once the DJ came in it was better. I didn't get a photo of our food but it's the best fish & chips I've had in the Chico area in the 10 months I've been looking for a fish & chips place. Kind of sad when a business faith is dictated by reviews dating years and years ago. Kind of like herpes, if I may, they never seem to disappear, specially when said reviews are detrimental and no longer apply to the present. Finally I went to this poorly rated establishment for their Taco Tuesday Special at $1.25 each. I should add that previously someone brought to our place the Monday Special, Burger night, which at this day and age must admit was unbeatable and rather tasty. The kind of special that defies all odds. Also, previously as well had their Wednesday Chicken Wings Special. That one, sadly, a fiasco. Super dry wings, devoid of all appeal, but for the money the quantity was decent. Anywho, Tackle Box simply rocks, and from the looks it distinguished itself as a truly unique scene. Staff reeked of good manners and friendly demeanor, which I must confess, truly appreciate. The shower singer in me wanted to get up on their stage and make a fool out of myself. The square footage truly mind altering, and the one question nagging me was: why the few and not so good comments? The bar alone is quite a sight! Tacos: small but loaded, easy to devour but please no less than 6, or will wish it had been. Salsa, meats, sauce, not shabby at all. Staff, as happily mentioned, nice as can be. Restroom particularly clean and originally decorated. Heard Happy Hour beers run for $4 a piece? If so, it would take quite a few to tune up. I thank the good man that drove us there. Karaoke Night Sundays? Buzzed enough I see no reason why I would not make a fool out of myself, God knows over the years I repeatedly have in good fun. I have always heard alot about this place around town but never gave it a try. The name reminds me of something to due with Fishing, not sure if that's on purpose or not but hey I find it to be pretty unique. Apparently they have everything from Midget Wrestling to Sean Kingston concerts. Anyways, I can't comment on any of those wild and crazy events but what I can comment on is the food that i ordered through DoorDash! I've been super busy so I haven't had the chance to leave a review but I placed this order on August 15th around 10am. I ordered the Tri Tip Sandwich and the French Dip both with Gouda. The food arrived and I was happy with my order. Nothing over the top but definitely nothing bad, that's for sure. This is where you go if you're looking to get effed up and don't care if your food is basically fresh from the dumpster. I ordered a burger, with no cheese and no bun because of dietary restrictions. And of course tots on the side. They basically just replicated my husbands burger, so there was the bun, cheese, & fries. I told the guy bringing it to us it was wrong and his response was "I didn't take your order". So there's that. He was going to take it back, but considering it took them 25 minutes to bring it out because there was ONE person taking AND making orders, I decided to pick it apart. Basically, I ate the avocado and bacon and picked around the cheese. $30 for garbage. Not a place to go for food, which we originally went to for Chili but they were out. So, talk about unmanaged expectations! I had driven by the Tackle Box many times, and with its many signs, I had no idea what it was. "Guns", "Sporting Goods", "Pool", "Barbecue," What *was* this place, I thought. But it was a Sunday, and I was looking for a buffet brunch. I found The Tackle Box. The website promised great things. We went. We walked in. There was no gun shop. No sports gear. There was a bar. Oh, goodness, there was a bar. With a dance floor. And a dog. A big dog. And no brunch buffet in sight. But, hey, we were game, so we decided to give it a try. Order at the counter, get your drinks at the bar or the soda machine. Take a bucket of peanuts to your table, because, my friend, you is gonna wait. And wait. But while you wait, check out the clientele. You got your macho manly man types. And... well, that is it. A couple of women with their manly man types, but this ain't no tourist joint, or no city people place. They serve manly man food to anyone who wants to double their testosterone level, just by being seen there. The dog will come around and check to see if you have good food. He will let you pet him, but it is all about the meat. If you don't have any yet, he is just barely polite. Now, we learned that this place feeds Cal Fire when they are around. And other, macho-manly groups. No Cal Fire d00d is going to stand for crap food, so let's just get it straight. This place does good food. Then, after a bit of a wait, the food comes. And lord almighty, you best be ready to eat. We have had the fish tacos. Huge pieces of perfectly breaded and fried white fish delicately balancing on tortillas with a mountain of really good coleslaw. We have had the steak. Slabs of perfectly prepared MEAT dominating plates decorated with tasty fries. We have had the specials. Three hamburgalishious sandwiches with a dusting of fries for almost nothing. So, the lesson here is, don't depend on the website. Come hungry, but plan on waiting. Expect greatness in the food. Don't feed the dog unless you want a fair weather friend who is only after you for your meat. read more

The tacklebox caters our lunches and breakfast every day. These are the worst lunches I have ever had. Everything is store-bought nothing homemade. High sodium low quality. I am sure PG&E is paying them well and while they throw a lot in a lunch bag they can't even put lettuce and tomatoes for a sandwich. Their breakfast is horrible. English muffins and sausage in a heated Compartment, now there's a bad combination. And the burritos every other day are very limited. Many of us don't even eat them so they throw a lot away at the end of the day. Someone should get an imagination and explore a little bit instead of the same all thing every day. Their paper bags or even shit. Unless you cradle them you can hardly carry them to the truck without them breaking. I would never use or recommend this place for catering. read more

I like the tackle box and I like seeing northern traditions there but the food service is a bit unorganized and slow. We ordered a pizza once wnd the first one they dropped on the floor. The second one got stuck to the oven and broke apart. Then finally we got one after the 3rd attempt. We went again tonight 4th of July and it took about an hour and a half to get an order of fries. This place is awesome!! Visiting Chico for the sprint car races this weekend and found this gem as a recommendation from my boyfriend who went to college here. They have great food, good drinks, games, pool and great live bands! First night we ordered a regular burger and a few cocktails. The next day I got the California Dreamin with chicken and my boyfriend got the Club Sandwich on sourdough. Soooo tastey!! P.S.: Lauren is freaking awesome! I eat here once every last Thursday of the month (Blues night). Always nice friendly people working here. Order at the counter and food gets delivered between 10 - 45 minutes later to your table. Very erratic as far as length of time to get our food. Their menus are usually dirty and in need of replacement however overall their food isn't too bad and the price of food is reasonable. Their burgers are pretty tasty however virtually every time my fries are delivered cold or lukewarm. They seem disorganized and could use some cleaning up. Many times after customers leave and there are dirty dishes on tables the table may sit there for 2 hours before being cleaned up. Nice selection of beers on tap. The price of drinks seem to fluctuate and although the bartenders sometimes (while getting my change) will get distracted and get into a conversation with another bartender for at least a minute to three minutes which seems unprofessional and not too considerate to their customer. I appreciate their shows, like their employees and am happy they exist however every time I come here I wonder how much better they could be with better management. read more

This review is for the BAR/FOOD only! I've seen my share of dive bars. At first look, it has all the makings of a badass dive bar. Tha'ts where the story goes straight the fuck downhill after that. I went in on 6/14/13 and was the sober drive for wife and her friends (one who was having her birthday). The first problem was the bartender. some skimpy little white chick who had her nose upturned to almost every person that came to the bar. I stood there for nearly ten minutes with CASH IN MY HAND waiting to order a drink. Finally one of the girls from Jerky Gurls said "Hey, can someone take his drink order please? SO, we get our drinks FINALLY. I swear a mixed drink at Disneyland would be cheaper! As far as the food goes... OH BOY! So my Brother in law ordered 2 tacos (the menu said they had *ahem* "decent sized tacos. These tacos would leave a mosquito still hungry. I ordered Fish and Chips and asked for cocktail and tartar sauce on the side. When the food came nearly an hour later, I had limp fish, soggy chips, and shrimp on the side that was browner than a camels asshole.... and no sauce! SO, I walked into the restaurant area and stood there as the skinny tweaker server chick with prison tats was bitching about how she hated customers that complained the tacos weren't big enough (dude, that's my wife's brother you're bitching about). She then went on to bitch and moan about how she hated drunk people. DUDE, You work in a dive bar/taver/grill. People are supposed to be drunk there. It wasn't until the big fat guy who was making the food (and sweating like a whore in church all over the food) realized I was standing there, that he cleared his throat and asked what I needed help with. I asked for sauce and the skinny tweaker smacked her lips and grabbed two itty bitty containers for the sauce and filled it about 1/4 of the way. I said "May I have more than that please?" And the response was "Sorry, I can't get it out of the container". Really the only good point of the night was trying the jerky from Jerky Gurls. Otherwise that place blows serious nuts and I'll never return there again! Save your money and just get a burger elsewhere. Seriously one of the shittiest places I've ever been to in my life. I've come to this place a couple times, both times weren't great. The first time, I went in with my sister and one of our girlfriends and immediately got stared down by many people in the establishment. We just came in to play some pool, but apparently we didn't blend in enough for the regular patrons. It was an alright place, good amount of pool tables, decent priced drinks, but damn, based on the looks we were getting, a lot of people seemed weirded out that a few Latinas were hanging out in this country style bar. Hello?! We were born and raised in Chico and happen to like pool and beer, too, poo faces. Anyway, second time, the band suckled a heffer's titty. Dude sounded like he had a frog in his throat... And then croaked "Trump for President!" Lol This is real life. I was looking forward to trying this place at the Taste of Chico. I have heard good reviews from people. OMG..... I was so so disappointed. I expected to have something exotic because that's what others raved about. I can get bbq'd chicken anywhere and if you are suppose to be marketing your establishment hoping for new patrons, I would have offered frog legs, croc or something else not quite of the ordinary as an item to choose between. Chicken or one of the other. So all they had was chicken and their beans. The beans were very good but........ the chicken I got was not cooked. What were they trying to do? Get people sick? How about a little salmonella with your chicken..... I took it back to show them and they gave me a new piece. Unfortunately, that one was also not cooked through. The meat was red and jelly like still. So I'm sorry but I won't ever be going to their place. I'm very disappointed. read more

My review here is for the bar and the food..... This is redneck done right, baby! It's a hunting/fishing supply shop, connected to an eatery, connected to a bar! The burgers are HUGE, hand made, and delicious. On one occasion I had the bacon cheese burger, and on a couple other occasions I had the fish and chips. Let me tell you a little about probably the best fish and chips on the planet...They are full fillets of beer-battered snapper (not little triangle-shaped breaded fish-like stuff), you can get two pieces or three, they come with their staple thick, meaty steak fries in a paper tray. Two was more than plenty for me! Delicious! This place has a 6-hour happy hour from 1-7 p.m, live music Thur-Sat nights, buckets of peanuts, sawdust on the floor, pool tables, shuffleboard, a metal hammerhead shark and a giant fishing lure on the corrugated tin ceiling, super-tasty food, several flat screen TVs and one big projection screen for viewing the games, Pawn Stars, hunting and fishing shows, etc, and a resident dog....what's not to LOVE about a place like that!! The only *ahem* complaints I guess I have is the parking, which is tough given the location. Despite that it is a hugely popular place, no one seems to mind trekking a little ways from neighboring lots. And I have had the experience of the bar not having, or running out of some ingredients for mixed cocktails...but still that wasn't a big deal to me...however the only reason I didn't give it a 5-star rating. read more

This place is seriously a hidden gem!!! We were looking for a place to watch the Bruins play and we accidentally came across the Tackle Box (thank goodness!). The bartender, Melissa, is SO awesome! She's so friendly and even brought her own ingredients for some AMAZING Bloody Marys! There's a friendly lab and a small goat that walk around here :). Super fun and friendly atmosphere!!! I've thought about visiting the tackle box due to some of my friends raving about it. Not after the first impression of it before even being a customer! :( A friend of mine was celebrating her birthday there Saturday night. My boyfriend and I wanted to stop in real quick to say hi, we couldn't stay long. We had brought a gift for her, a bottle of her favorite wine, and I forgot to buy a wine bag for it. When we get to the door to show our IDs, the bouncer tells us it's a $5 cover for the band playing. We explain to him that we were only going to be there a few minutes to drop off the birthday gift for my friend. He sees the bottle of wine and tells us to get the f*** out. We were more than cooperative. Our friend followed us out so that she could put the bottle of wine in her car. In the 5 seconds it took her to meet us, the bouncer is yelling at us to leave or put the wine in our pockets (really dude? Have you ever put a bottle of wine in your pocket?) We were not fighting your argument that if the ABC saw it, you guys would be in trouble. But if you were so worried that the ABC would show up in the 10 seconds we were trying to put the bottle away, maybe you should rethink running the business. You won't be getting any of mine, anyway. The situation could have been handled way more professionally. The rest of the crowd wasn't too alluring either. Makes me not feel so proud to live in this community. read more

Came here to check out what folks east of the I-5 get up to on a Saturday night. There were three TVs playing: one was set to a televangelist, one was set to NASCAR, and the third was playing a hunting show. Guys in Mossy Oak ball caps played pool while fat-assed blondes danced on a floor covered in peanut shells to a band playing Skynyrd covers, and there was a video game in the corner where you could shoot either deer, zombie deer or cockroaches in a cartoon kitchen. Drinks were cheap, the band was good and the people watching was unparalleled. No one kicked me out because of my hairy armpits and liberal ways. But I docked a star because they charged $5 to get in. read more

I waited 15 minutes for a drink and finally went off on a bartender and asked for the owner whom was there. He compted my drinks so I'll give it a star for that. The crowd was some of the rudest rednecks I've ever had the displeasure of being around. The place has a ton of potential! New staff and maybe a different theme would help. Lots of room And games. This is a family oriented bar and grill. The owners treat the patrons like family. The food is to die for the servings are so big for the price that you pay. The bartenders are courteous nice and very fast to serve you. The music on the weekends is phenomenal. Line dancing on Tuesday fallowed by karaoke with taco Tuesday. Wednesday is swing dance lessons. And chicken wings. Great covered in bbq. Sauce. Thursday night all you can eat fish and chips. And karaoke. Then the weekend hits and the place starts to jump all the way till Sunday morning. I have to say this is the best establishment for food and beers that I have ever had the opportunity to go and enjoy myself. It's a must have on your scheduled.
