This was an unplanned stop heading up the mountain looking for parking passes. After stopping for the pass there was no way we were leaving without donuts! Since it was our first time in we requested a variety mix selected by their staff. These did not disappoint. We had everything from cream filled, jelly filled, chocolate covered and crullers. They hit the spot and fueled us for our day of skiing. I'm sure locals are in on the secret but if you're passing through Sandy this is a must stop. read more

Obviously they are hard working here, I drive by at random times throughout the day and night and there is usually somebody prepping dough for the next day at all hours. Great doughnuts! They don't let you tip the staff with credit card payments. Since no one has cash these days, this ribs the staff of a lot of income they should be making on tips. I wish you valued your staff more and allowed that. read more

Rude costumer service: First time coming here was very excited after hearing amazing things about their donuts. Place was very busy only one person working (I get it, it has happened to me) she was very rude. Fantastic donuts. Had the Persian maple nut donut and it was a top 5 donuts of all time for me. My daughter said their old fashioned glazed was the best she's had. Great fritters! I had blueberry. I also had an Almond Joy doughnut that was a raised chocolate glazed doughnut with coconut cream dolloped on top. Both were very tasty and had a nice chewy/crispy consistency. I'd fully stop here again on the way to Mt. Hood or when passing through Sandy, OR. I like that they use a lot of frosting and glaze. It's a doughnut shop that covers their products like a cake. There were several cyclists and the line went quick. If Paula Deen opened a donut shop, this would be it. I imagine they get butter by the truckload because they are making up donuts that are unlike anything I have ever seen. The frosting is straight up buttercream and the dough is straight up butterdough and I am 99 percent certain "butterdough" isn't even a word. Doesn't matter. It fits so I'm using it. I took one bite of the butterdough cake donut and it melted in my mouth. Literally. Like such a large percentage of the donut was butter that the sucker just melted away on my hot tongue. Beyond the initial bite, I didn't have to chew! I just held it lovingly in my mouth and swallowed. Man, that's delicious. Am I moaning aloud or just in my head? I actually bought two donuts. And couldn't finish a single, let alone both. There's a limit to the amount of knock-you-socks-off-sweetness I can handle. I am ashamed to admit I tossed them. I had to, I promise, stop judging me. Within ten minutes of purchasing these little butterdough bombs, the bag had become completely translucent in spots, proof that butterdough does have it's faults. My heart is probably better off for the decision to rid myself of them, but my taste buds will never forgive me. read more

My new favorite stop on our way to Mt Hood or Bend. They open at 4AM, incredible! I loved how many unique donut offerings they had. We tried the banana custard and maple custard, unfortunately they were out of the marionberry jelly but there's always next time. A true classic. I came here a couple times as a kid and recently stopped in again on my way up to the mountain. I has the same red and white checkered paint job on the outside and the same cases full of delicious donuts. I came by in the afternoon around 3pm and was surprised to see the case still chalk full of nearly every donut they offer. I went with an apple fritter this time around and it was amazing. They add fairly sizable chunks of apple on top of these fluffy giants which was a really nice touch. They also have a very solid maple bar. Honestly you can't go wrong, no matter what you get. This place is an absolute must stop if you haven't already. They offer great donuts at an inexpensive price. No frills. Don't be deterred by the aging exterior. Come inside, grab a donut and a cup of coffee, bask in the amazing smells for a few minutes, and then shove those donuts into your face hole as you head up the hill. read more

Short and sweet and full disclosure; I'm a local... Bottom Line: A 'day-old' Joe's donut is BETTER than anyone else's fresh. Their motto ought to be Voodoo WHOdoo? Voodoo is a gimmick. Joes is the REAL gem. Once you have one, you'll know why. If you are coming by on a weekend- expect a line, which moves fast, generally- assuming everyone's on board with the program. You can call in advance and order for pickup; call it in early and know what you want, they don't have a lot of time for questions- the line is forming. Top three for me: 1) Cronuts, don't try to understand it, just get one. 2) Maple Bar, I used to HATE Maple Bars, but Joe's have some extra something that made me a fan. 3) Banana, cream in the middle and cream cheese frosting...HELLO! Really all the rest are awesome, too and there are plenty of varieties to choose from! Always very fresh! Pro tip: If you are a late riser, your favorite could be gone. So rise early, call it in and go back to bed...you can pick up later. They do coffees, but that throws a wrench into the flow...you've got to stick with the status quo. You're there for donuts and a milk or whatever out of the cooler! There's a local coffee cart somewhere else for that. Remember- Some of the people in line are locals who've called in, BUT still have to wait their turn to pick up order; so get in, know what you want, hit it hard and get out. We know many on weekends are passing through, we're truly glad you're here, though... I do enjoy seeing folks experience Joe's for the first time...but I also want my donuts... It's not huge on the inside and there are a few tables, but the line makes it a bit crowded, so unless it's raining buckets, you can go outside and take in the quaint corner to eat. Anticipation builds as you get intermittent glimpses of their offerings in the display case as you wait for you're big moment. Make it count. Their lot is small and on-street parking is a bit limited, so I think you can park across street or up farther on 26 and walk back. It's nice, so not a bad walk. The corner is busy, so if crossing, hang on to your little ones! read more

What's not to love? This is an old-timey, must-stop, hole-in-the-wall, family-owned donut shop. The donuts are always fresh as is the coffee and they have breakfast sandwiches and burritos as well. Efficient and polite service is the norm, and I've been stopping for 20+ years. In fact, it's fair to say the only time I don't stop at Joe's is when they're closed. AND THEY TAKE APPLE PAY - BONUS!! This is usually a must stop every time we go through Sandy. Unfortunately our most recent stop was a bit less satisfying. We got a jelly filled and a maple bar. Both doughnuts we're partially squished when they put them into the bag and the jelly filled literally looked like a bite had been taken out of it. The maple bar was a bit under cooked and was so soft it fell apart. It was busy and they did get through a long line at a very efficient pace but overall we were a bit bummed about our experience. read more

I've been going to Joe's for over two years and I've always enjoyed their donuts and friendly staff. The donut selection is just right. Just estimating but they probably have about only 10 different kinds. I think this smaller variety helps them keep the quality high and perfection consistent. I always go with the Apple Sauce (so please leave me some!). But the Fritters are also very good. They do have some rotating special donuts throughout the year. The wait is never more than 3-5 minutes as they will open up two registers of it gets busy and the lines clear out faster. And again the staff has always been friendly to me and my family. Always a smile when they ask what we would like. There is a small amount of space overall so it can get crowded during busy hours. This is usually a pick-up and go kind of shop. How had I never stopped at Joe's Donut Shop all these years of passing it on the way to Mt. Hood or points East? I don't know, but that is not the case anymore. We finally stopped here on our way out to do some snowshoeing on Hood. I don't eat donuts very often, but I won't deny myself this tasty treat once in awhile. I'm glad we got there after the rush as I've passed this place with a line out the door. Maybe that is why I never stopped before. In some of the previous reviews people mentioned the apple fritters. I inquired about those only to be told that they also had blueberry fritters. Mind is racing. Mind is racing. Blueberry fritter it is. It was good. I wish I could tell you more than that about it, but I inhaled it within a few seconds. Next up, a glazed donut. I like glazed donuts because of the simplicity of them. They are like a plain slice of pizza. Nothing spectacular about them, but the flavors aren't hidden beneath chocolate or sprinkles or anything else so that the true flavor can really come out. If I find a good glazed donut somewhere, I'm a customer for life. This one was so light. It was like eating donut flavored air...but in a good way. So, there it is.
