Poor ethics, beware! We are new to the area so we purchased quite a few restaurant Groupons in Royal Oak and surrounding areas as they came up. Then the pandemic hit. After the restrictions were lifted, we waited a few weeks to let owners catch their breath after opening being sensitive to dood start up costs. Meanwhile, several of those Groupons expired in June. But fortunately, most of the merchants so far have honored the promotional dollar amount such as Le Crepe, La Marsa, Inyo and others. Today we called ahead to Joe's Grill in Royal Oak, to make sure the Groupon would be honored. We were told YES, so we went to grab lunch carry out. Once there, we were informed the promotion dollar amount of $15 would not be honored. We said OK, but then we were informed the original $7 paid would not be honored as well, violating Groupon's rules and the fine print written on the certificate. We tried to show the owner the rules. He would have none of it and was rude and defiant. He basically swiped $7 from us and was ok with it. So we went next door to ShenThai and ordered $32 of Thai for dinner. In retrospect, it's not the $7, it's the principle. The crazy thing is, we would have purchased $25 or more than the $7, plus a 20% tip (even though carry out) on top of that!! So he (and his staff) could have made money. I know times are tough for restaurants.... and for everyone for that matter, but this feels like theft. Groupon reimbursed us, but we will stay clear of this establishment. This was an opportunity to be wowed but instead he lost a potential weekly regular over $7. read more

Coming back from MSU and was super hungry, search for best healthy place near me. Was flooded with options, glad I went with Joe's girl. Service was great, they helped me to get best choice for me. Met an owner who took extra time to explain how much personal care and that entire place is microwave free. The food echoed his raving, and was delicious. Most definitely coming back, told my friends and they all knew how good this place was. Well lived in Royal Oak for over 20 years and still find hidden gams ;). read more

Mom is a vegetarian, so we went with the Vegetarian Combo: Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Grape Leaves, Tabouli, grilled veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, onions, mushrooms, green bell peppers) and baked falafel. You get to pick a protein, sauce (the parsley tahini is excellent), spread (hummus, spicy garlic, baba, garlic, etc.), and toppings (you can choose multiple from like 20 choices, including tabouli!)
