Despite being located in a kid-centric mall, they don't have a kids menu. You used to be able to get a kids quesadilla and fries, but no longer. Instead you have to piece things together, with a semblance of half service and half "do it yourself," and the tables and chains looked like Chuck E. Cheese at closing time. When I was ordering a lemonade, I asked if I could get half lemonade, and the other half iced tea. They didn't understand, so I emphasized, half lemonade, half tea, and they then flatly told me, "We're going to give you a lemonade, and there's tea over there, so you can figure it out." Place is a chaotic mess, and I noticed a ton more people and families at the Spin across the hall, which I think we'll be joining next time.

The food tasted great, especially their house-made limeade! But due note that the menu is a la carte style and can get pricey very quickly. They also don't give complimentary refills and charge for extra things of ketchup. It's located in the crossroads, next to the streetcar stop. So it's great for lunch or anyone looking for a quick bite on the go.

The exterior looked inviting and the parking lot seemed adequately busy, so I noted to my husband that we would have to check it out soon. Several days later we brought our infant and a friend and were warmly greeted by staff who explained the ordering process and instantly made us feel welcomed. We didn't have to wait for seating but it's was nice to see a local business like this pretty busy with patrons. We had a hard time figuring out what we wanted (it honestly all looked good) but decided on brisket nachos, a pulled pork loaded potato and burnt ends with fries and baked beans. When I say everything we ate was phenomenal I mean it rivaled a lot of the major local spots that people flock to in KC for BBQ. I also loved the sauces and did feel the regular/spicy had enough of a variation to appeal to differing tastebuds (I'm a spicy fan and while it wasn't the hottest I've had it had some bite.) Despite some other reviews on here we felt the price was a great value - especially on the nachos and potato - for the amount of BBQ/food. The Mac and cheese we ordered for our daughter was also some of the best we've had out of the house and as a Texan I loved the flavor of the queso on the nachos. We have since returned many times and the service and food have been consistently good. We have brought friends and family each time who similarly rave about the food and good people serving it - and many have returned on their own without us. We also recently took the chance to try their (weekday morning) breakfast burritos after salivating over them on the menu...WOW is all I can say. Worth every penny - huge and had tons of flavor. My dad is quite the foodie and could not stop raving about them. I hope this business continues to have lots of success/growth and that they continue serving up good food here in the northland (and beyond, if they please.) Such a wonderful local spot!

We brought a group of 15 people, so we had plenty of opinions at the table. Unfortunately, not one person left particularly impressed. The brisket was overcooked, and the rest of the BBQ was seriously lacking in smoke flavor. They were already out of ribs at 11 a.m., but we were told they'd have more ready in about 30 minutes. Sure enough, 30 minutes later, ribs appeared -- but they tasted like they had taken a detour through an oven rather than a smoker. Naturally, being a BBQ-loving group, we had to investigate. We looked outside for the smoker and found it... but the smoke stack looked like it had been on vacation. There was virtually no smoke smell outside or inside, which probably explained a few things. I know BBQ can have an off day, and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe we caught them on a bad day. I'll probably give them another shot sometime because I'd genuinely like to see what all the good reviews are about. But for this visit, with 15 people in our group, the consensus was pretty clear: we should've gone to SLAPS. Hopefully next time the smoker is actually smoking.

First impressions were excellent. The restaurant is beautiful and definitely has a more upscale atmosphere than your typical BBQ joint. I ordered the brisket and burnt ends with fries. Both meats were good -- tender, flavorful and well prepared -- but neither really left me wanting more. There was nothing wrong with them; they just didn't have that memorable factor I was hoping for from Kansas City BBQ. My wife ordered the loaded baked potato with burnt ends. Her opinion was similar: good, but probably not something she would order again. Our server, Adam, was excellent. He was friendly, attentive and offered several recommendations. He suggested the cheesy corn bake, which sounded fantastic. Unfortunately, that one missed the mark for us. It reminded me more of mac & cheese with corn mixed into it than the creamy corn casserole I had imagined. Overall, this was a good meal with excellent service in a beautiful restaurant. I can understand why Jack Stack has such a following, but for us it just didn't have that "I can't wait to come back" factor. I'm glad we tried it, but next time we're in Kansas City, I think we'll continue exploring some of the other BBQ legends. In hindsight...maybe we should've tried Gates! ‍
