    Split Large Brobecks Sandwich
    Jen S.

Wow!! I had tried this place at my office we ordered it in, but we decided to dine in this evening and it was all the hype! I loved the service and the quality of food. We shared corn nuggets and a large sandwich both were delicious. They have 3 different sauces to try a sweet, and sweet n spicy plus a golden bbq. We loved every one of them. Get in here to this diner it's callin your name.

Brobeck's has been on my to-do list for many years, so I was glad to finally stop in while I was in their neighborhood. I had just finished a 6 stop caffeine crawl and was wired to the max and wasn't really hungry, but knew that I needed some food of substance in my belly before my jitters turned to convulsions. I was expecting a bit of an upscale vibe with it's Indian Creek / Overland Park address, but it felt like walking into a small town diner; and that's a positive for me. The friendly waitress told us she recommended the ribs and burnt ends and they were known for their ham salad. Ham salad? at a BBQ joint? Hmmm... that's a strange niche to be known for but okay. After placing my order she returned with a complimentary 4 oz condiment cup filled with ham salad and some crackers. I understand now! That was delicious and I regret now not taking home a quart of the stuff to pig out on with some fancy crackers or gourmet chips this weekend. I ordered the burnt end sandwich with a slaw topper. The sandwich was large and sauce free to showcase the smoked meats. Although it was not the best burnt ends that I've experienced, there's no shame in their game; with a nice bark / end and flavorful tender smoky beef. The size of the sandwich was larger than expected for the price point and the 3 sauces at the table made for some nice alternating dipping options. Brobecks deserves a return visit from me when I'm ready to devour more of that menu - the "All you can eat ribs" special for $27 on Wednesday nights would be tempting, but fortunately I work Wednesday evenings so I won't be making a gluttonous fool of myself. The to-go ham salad next time - bets are off for a gluttonous adventure behind locked doors!

Burnt Ends, one baby back rib, beans, and really good cheesy corn.

Food- really good Service - good Ambiance - a non-de-plume bbq joint 1st time here as of 1/28/25. The second you walk in you get the BBQ aroma, and the hint that "this is going to be good!" Had the burnt ends and 1 rib combo with baked beans and cheesy corn as my 2 sides. Beans are good for sure. Cheesy corn is almost as good as J.Stack IMHO. Baby Back rib was so good that I may need to get at least a 1/2 slab next time. Burnt Ends were soft and chewey, smoky and great flavor. Nice touch @ the table of a good KC BBQ sauce AND a good NC BBQ sauce as well (more mustard based). Very casual spot a mini-Mahomes throw away from Wooden Spoon on Nall and 103rd.

Burnt ends were very dry. Super sad. The barbecue sauce has a cloyingly sweet artificial brown sugar flavor. Unremarkable bland glommed up macaroni and cheese which was more pasta than anything else like flavor or cheese. The cheesy corn was very good. Plenty of wonderful black pepper mixed with cheesy flavor. Very dry small chunks of pork belly on the pork belly Cobb salad. The salad was otherwise very well appointed with ingredients like cheese, egg, and onion. Tasty soft homemade $1 cookies. Chocolate cake was kinda dry but the buttercream frosting was good.

Great food, generous portions, excellent value for the money. Prompt service. Sauce is rich and the spicy mustard sauce you might be tasting the rest of the day.

This is a great barbecue restaurant located just north of Winstead's, near Roe and 435. The ham salad is their specialty and it is magnificent! It was almost as good as my grandma used to make. That is a huge compliment as she was considered to be the best cook and baker in her town. The spare ribs here are some of the best I've had in Kansas City! The baby back ribs were very good also but I prefer the former. The coleslaw was creamy, but not too sweet. The beans weren't cloyingly sweet like Slaps (which are disgusting), and they have a little mustard in them and some meat as well. Pretty decent beans. I really did not care for the burnt ends. They were brisket burnt and about 50% fat in all. I had to pick them apart and throw several pieces away that were only fat. I guess the chance you take. I will most certainly be back for the ribs and the coleslaw. The ham salad is all time. Great spot!

    These "sausages" resembled hot dogs

Wow... Y'all call this BBQ?!?! It definitely smelled like tasty smoke when I walked in, but the food I got was anything but... Service was moderately decent, but friendly. The menu was normal and decent. I opted for their brisket and jalapeño sausage along with beans and slaw as sides. The brisket was horrible! I can't believe any smokehouse or BBQ joint would plate something like that. It was clearly made ahead of time, like yesterday and then pan seared or microwave or heated in some inappropriate way for service. There were cooked juices/grease all over the plate in fact - GROSS! Check the pics, no brisket should ever look like that! The sausage resembled and very smooth external casing texture, like hot dogs. The bite texture matched that and the flavor definitely wasn't of a smoked jalapeño sausage, rather one of a cooked hot dog... very disappointing. The sides weren't that great either... I had to add tons of salt & pepper to the slaw and the beans were just hopeless. Sad and disappointed because this is the type of BBQ I'd expect where I live, in the Northern VA/DC area, but not at all what I'd every expect from the second best BBQ region in the world (Texas is most definitely, without a doubt, 100% the BEST! And it's places like this that prove that point). Maybe it was an off day... I don't know. But in my case, I don't visit here often, so you only get one chance to get it right... all restaurants should know this and act this way. I'd never return.

Everything here is fantastic, but hands down my favorite is the ham salad with chips and crackers! Our server was just the sweetest, and took excellent care of us. Daily lunch specials during the week, and fabulous family style deals. Plus, they're now open on Sundays for carry out for football!

The staff was super friendly, and the place was clean and busy. I got the Ol Ray's Favorite. I chose jalapeño cheddar sausage, pulled pork, and sliced brisket. I had white cheddar mac n cheese and coleslaw for sides. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was thinly sliced, which made it dry. Had a little heat and good flavor but dry. I should have gotten the sausage chunked instead of sliced. I think it would have been juicier. The pulled pork was lightly smoked, but it was dry, too. The sliced brisket was excellent, though! It had great smoke flavor. The house bbq sauce was really good. Slaw was bland, and the mac n cheese was ok. Overall, it wasn't bad trip.

The baked potato was generously sized and wasn't overloaded with sour cream. The spinach salad was refreshing and fresh. The vinaigrette had excellent flavor and contrasted beautifully with the smoked bacon on top. The Cheesy Corn was underwhelming. The texture was very runny, and it lacked flavor. Someone from the restaurant replied to a comment I had made, rattling off menu recommendations and encouraging me to stop by. It worked. By the time Father's Day rolled around, Meat Mitch had become the destination. When we arrived, the place looked exactly like the kind of barbecue joint people hope to discover. The patio was alive. Kids chased each other through the crowd. Cornhole bags flew through the air. Families lingered around picnic tables while smoke drifted through the summer air. We were quoted an hour-and-a-half to two-hour wait. No problem. It was Father's Day. Barbecue and patience have always gone hand in hand. So we made an afternoon of it. My son found other kids to play with. My wife ducked into Billie's Grocery for a coffee and a snack. We wandered the Plaza, killed time, and enjoyed the day. Frankly, Meat Mitch seemed worth waiting for. A 90-to-120-minute wait eventually became three hours. That's when the story changed. At one point we sat near the expo window because the Toast waitlist showed we were next in line for a table. From there, we watched the operation for over an hour. The bottleneck appeared to be the expo station. Food runners stood ready while plates piled up in the window and tickets were worked one at a time. The entire process moved at a pace that would make the DMV ask if everything was okay. Meanwhile, managers were making rounds apologizing to guests, comping checks, and handing out gift cards. Every few minutes another table looked confused, frustrated, or defeated. As I listened to conversations around me, a pattern emerged. Multiple tables said they had already waited 45 minutes to an hour for food after being seated. That's when it clicked. The Toast waitlist showed we were next in line for a table. We weren't next to eat. We were next to sit. By this point my son was having a better Father's Day than I was. He'd made friends, played games, and explored the Plaza. I spent mine watching plates age in the expo window like they were being dry-aged alongside the brisket. What really broke my brain was watching carryout orders continue to leave the building while the dining room was drowning. If your quoted wait has turned into three hours, managers are comping meals, and guests are openly frustrated, maybe it's time to stop accepting new problems and start solving the ones already sitting in your restaurant. Then there was the expo station. For over an hour, I watched the same pair of gloves touch faces, clothing, equipment, tickets, and food. By the end they were shiny with grease, stretched loose from overuse, and inspiring absolutely zero confidence. I've seen cast-iron skillets retired sooner than those gloves. I've worked in restaurants long enough to know everyone has bad days. Father's Day is chaos. People call out. Equipment breaks. Tickets stack up. It happens. But after three hours--already an hour longer than the maximum wait we were quoted--I never got to try the barbecue that brought me there in the first place. Unfortunately, I can't review the food. The only thing I got to sample was my patience. And that's a shame. Because everything about Meat Mitch made me want to like Meat Mitch. The patio was great. The atmosphere was great. The energy was great. It felt like the kind of place where you could spend an entire afternoon with people you enjoy being around. In a way, that's what made the experience so frustrating. The promise of a great Father's Day was sitting right in front of me. I just never made it to the table. Update: After sharing my experience with management, Meat Mitch reached out, accepted responsibility for what happened, and invited me back. I appreciate the professionalism and plan to give them another opportunity.

The ribs were good, but for almost $20, I got 3 pieces. They stated for the ribs plate, you'd get about 3 or 4, depending on the weight, but it would be nice to note that down somewhere that when paying $20, expect 3 pieces. Ive gotten double that and about the same price at other bbq spots, hence my disappointed and surprised when opening the container. Mac and cheese had huge shell noodles, which was cool but on the watery side. Potato salad was decent, got the job done but a little bland. Sauces are also on the tangy side, and if you're a sweet bbq sauce gal like me, it wasn't hitting the spot. Overall was nice giving a try, but will prob be going elsewhere for my bbq needs!
