I'm not convinced that the guys who came out were truthful about anything. He formulates a bid - out of thin air. He measured concrete on a diagonal- clearly not accurate. Babbled off some numbers, but none of which added up. Then he sat down, quoted a number, immediately starts talking about how he can save us money, makes 2 BS phone calls, then knocks $6K off the price. Had an appointment for an estimate on my roofing and home renovation job for last Friday, they called that morning to say they couldn't make it and rescheduled for noon Monday. Appointment time arrives, no call, no show. I started calling them to see if they were still coming, tried 4 times, phone would ring 5 or 6 times then busy signal, no chance to leave a message. After about an hour of call attempts someone finally picked up, she said she would put be through to that extension, it rang 5 times then busy signal again! If this company is this lame and uncaring prior to getting the job while still trying to impress, I can only imagine the headaches that would occur if there were an actual issue with their work. Got a call from Joey Builders after looking for a project on Home Advisor. I told the person on the phone that I didn't see many photos of landscaping projects on their website and asked if they would be willing to send me some. He said yes and took down my email. I got a call the very next day again asking me about my project. I said I was still waiting for an email and he said he had not notes about that and furthermore, he was not able to send me any email. He was very pushy about getting someone out for a free estimate and treated me like an idiot that I wouldn't accept someone's "amazing free offer" after I explained that my time is valuable and I want to ensure that they could be a potential fit before just inviting them to my home. Joey Builders were contacted for a consultation to fix the fence around my grandma's property. My grandmother and her neighbor are splitting the cost. Joey Builders came to her house and instead of going to the backyard to see the fence, they insisted on coming into the house...where they did not for THREE HOURS. They continued to stay even after they were told that my grandma and her neighbor wanted to get a second opinion because they were quoted $8000 for a 64 ft fence. They continued to try to wear my grandma and her neighbor down. My grandma was refusing to sign the contract they kept insisting on and they were not taking no for an answer. The workmanship on our cabinets was absolutely horrific, and we had to have somebody come in and paint them because the paint started chipping within the first week we had them. The workmanship on what they did was just truly awful. We've had a handyman come in to reinforce the drawers and put a center support, the side drug glides failed and those also had to be replaced. The cabinet maker didn't come when they said they would ever. They showed up when they felt like it sometimes at 5 o'clock at night . If you're thinking about using this company, just don't. Save yourself money and aggravation. read more

Firefighters are always shocked to get ripped off. I guess it's b/c we spend our entire careers showing up to a job, working as hard as we can, and leaving the property in as good shape as we possibly can, without taking any money (beyond our salary). I give 2 stars to Joey Rebuilders (looks like they changed their name, but it is the same company) because despite their terrible work, I managed to end up with a nice looking (slightly incomplete) staircase railing. And, the project manager Dani and on-site builder Miguel were both very nice, and seemed to make efforts to do the job right. Unfortunately Miguel doesn't seem to adhere to basic principles of construction: 1. Balcony railings need to attach to walls, at the top, not just rely on bolts screwed into the floor wood! If I had leaned against the railing before inspecting the ends, I could have fallen to my death. 2. You can't have a staircase railing 44" high on one end, and 36" high on the other end, a few feet away. His geometry was all wrong. I had to do all the math for them and instruct them exactly what to do. 3. When you screw into wood, use wood screws, not sheetmetal screws. Just get a helper and ask them to hold the glass panels out of the way for a few minutes, drill pilot holes, and can screw them in straight (see photos), not take a shortcut and screw them in at an angle, leaving sharp off-angle screwheads. And of course some of the heads are going to break off - those are light duty sheetmetal screws being forced into hardwood - but when they do, at least make an effort to mitigate the safety hazard. You cannot leave sharp, jagged broken off screws sticking out of the bottom of a handrail. 4. It took 4 tries to get them to finish the wooden hand railings properly. Some were rough; others were different colors; they were almost all "sticky" and wouldn't dry out. It was ridiculous, I had to tell Miguel what to do. 5. One of his helpers damaged my walls around the stairs so he had to hire a painter to try to fix it. Didn't quite work. I could go on and on. They kept sending someone over to collect the rest of the money before the job was finished. No way. And my instincts were right: the final part of the project was to install post base caps. The ones they supplied didn't cover the base plates. I told them I needed new ones, and they installed replacements when I wasn't there. I did end up paying them after Dani promised he'd get me some new base plate covers. But it never happened. I have a steel / wood / glass modern staircase railing (I had to design every aspect of it, they had no idea what to do), yet the base cover plates are "Victorian" style (see attached photos). I emailed Dani several times (I have all the emails) over many months of time. It wasn't until I sent a "final" email informing him that I was about to write this review that he said he'd find something for me (even though he didn't work for the company anymore). But after several emails, not returned, I've given up. But I'll update the review if they come through one day and do what they said they would. Meanwhile, take your business elsewhere. I have not found a reputable contractor for projects like this. read more

I requested a consultation from Joey Builders, and they contacted me promptly to schedule a site visit for Friday (10/25) at 10am. However, they called me evening to reschedule, so I agreed to instead meet their rep on Monday (10/28) at 10am. Well, 10am Monday comes and goes, with no call and no show from Joey Builders. When I then called their main line around noon, I was placed on hold and then the call was disconnected. If these folks can't even keep track of their appointments, I wonder how they manage even simple construction projects. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I recently contacted Joey Builders through Angie's List on 9/24/2024, looking for help with interior design and some light architectural work. On 9/25/2024, someone from Joey Builders called me to schedule an appointment for 9/26/2024 at 10:00 AM. The problems started right away. At 10:45 AM on the day of the appointment, I received a call from them saying they were running late but would arrive within an hour, no later than 11:30. By 12:00, they still hadn't shown up, so I called the company. After being put on hold for an extended amount of time with no response, I had to hang up and call back. When I called again, I requested to speak with someone in management. Once again, I was put on hold for a long time before I had to hang up. After trying to call several more times with no answer--just a ringing phone and dropped calls--it became clear that no one was willing to communicate properly. At about 12:45 PM, someone from Joey Builders finally showed up at my door--almost three hours late. At this point, I had already canceled the appointment due to their lack of professionalism and punctuality. Instead of apologizing, the person was rude and upset, saying, "Thanks for wasting my time." I was shocked and responded, "Really?" He rudely walked away, repeating, "Thanks for wasting my time." What's even more troubling is that I was recording this encounter on my phone. When he realized this, he snapped, "Oh...so now you're recording me?" His behavior was completely unprofessional and disrespectful. I had rearranged my entire day around this appointment, and if anyone's time was wasted, it was mine. To be late is one thing, but to show up three hours late and then be rude to the client for canceling the appointment was amazing. The lack of communication, poor punctuality, and the complete disrespect shown during our interaction were unacceptable. read more

I wanted to share my overall experience with our bathroom remodel. It started out great. They were able to start right away. Our project manager was friendly and eager to get the job started and complete. One of the items we chose to update was our flooring which we chose a laminate flooring. When completed it looked great, however within a few days of walking on we could tell they didn't level the floor before laying it down. After two weeks the floor cracked in the closet. I reached out to my project manager and after a few weeks of finding time for him to come out he stopped responding. I called the company but kept getting a voicemail, which I left several messages. I emailed the email on their site. I finally got a response where they would get back to me in a week and send someone out. Never hear from again. Out of the blue I heard from my original project manager who had moved to a new company. He gave me a contact to reach out to. After several weeks they sent someone to look at our flooring. She agreed with our concerns but now said we were out of warranty. She said she would go back and someone would get back to us. We never heard back. I now we have a brand new floor which has cracks and wasn't installed properly. Frustrating as you don't do remodels everyday. I think they are going out of business. Main phone # goes to dial tone. This has happened occasionally before (I know another poster has mentioned the same thing), but now it's every time. Their Better Business Bureau rating has been pulled due to "numerous complaints," which is unsurprising, given my experience. I had a bunch of stuff, expensive equipment, that they just left here. They finally hauled it off today, after literally two months of requests, after I filed a BBB complaint, and a CSLB complaint. I discontinued the work with them because what they were doing needed to be redone properly and they were trying to get nearly all of the money from the bid in advance. I hired Joey Builders, thinking they would help my --recently passed -- (United States Vietnam veteran ) father, whose house I was entrusted to care for. I hired them because they seemed honest (Salesperson/ Project Manager Oliver Dair) and would help us, but they did and are the opposite. Presently, I am seeking legal recourse as they were fraudulent with my contract. My amended contract states explicitly that Redwood was to be used, but they substituted an inferior product (Cedar), thinking I would not discover their fraud. They insisted it was redwood and said my fence did not need to be sealed. More than once, I asked them. If the material that was used was redwood wood, they said yes. What is more disturbing is that Joey Builder's manager, Bau, screamed at me when I confronted and spoke with him on the phone. He then said he would stain the wood "red" as if that would absolve him from the fraud and help the issue. He said hard cedar was just as good as redwood, which is invalid. I told Bau that it was still not good as it would not make the wood redwood; it just stained the wood red. Asinine and fraudulent thinking! This will be a lengthy legal process, and stay tuned as I seek legal recourse to remedy their blatant fraud. BEWARE! MILITARY PERSONNEL BEWARE! read more
