I'd like to update my previous review dated May 31, 2026 and rate All Star Builders accordingly. The delay in a prompt response to the cracking grout issue was a result of my error in leaving messages to the wrong person. Once the appropriate team became aware of the issue, the problem was fixed within a week. The shower floor was regrouted, smoothed out to eliminate water from gathering in several areas of the shower floor. Now the water moves directly to the drain, no water residue, floor is smooth, and it dries accordingly. Great job on the immediate attention to this matter. A job well done. I appreciate All Star Builders for their passion to make things right and maintain a level of excellence in their workmanship. Michael Hovel is very unprofessional and has bad communication. The painters were arrested day 1 so the project was delayed. What should have taken a few days took almost a month. Made no notes about what we wanted and then the guys came out and didn't even know what to do and he told us we needed to tell them everything. That's your job sir. Not my fault you hire staff you can't communicate with. Not with it. Paid way more, said we would get a discount and help them with a promo video but after everything he didn't go through with it because of how messy everything was. Do NOT recommend Michael Hovel. Absolutely the worst company. I can't even count how many times they messed up the job or how many unnecessary inconveniences they caused because their workers failed to do things properly. It felt like there was no foreman or supervisor checking their work because the same kinds of mistakes kept happening over and over again. This isn't just me saying this out of frustration. Almost my entire family has been observing their work throughout this process, and the issues have been so obvious that anyone paying attention could see something was wrong. Even an ant could see something was wrong. I genuinely feel bad for my grandma for trusting this company. We've had them work on several projects around her home, including exterior painting, bathroom remodels, solar panels, and other work, and now the ADU project. Looking back, I really wish my grandma had met a more genuine and trustworthy contractor before dealing with them. The confidence they showed and the way they presented themselves convinced her to move forward with the company. (sucks, really.) Our first bathroom remodel started after they pointed out what they said was "black mold," which led my grandma to move forward with the renovation. The finished bathroom itself initially looked okay, but the process was extremely frustrating and stressful because of the many issues we experienced along the way. The lack of proper communication, supervision and attention to detail made the entire experience difficult. And guess what, we are already encountering problems with the newly remodeled bathroom. Yaaay. It feels like corners were cut when it came to the materials and workmanship because part of the floor grout is already cracking. They also chose cheap and unbranded fixtures and accessories that did not feel like they matched the quality we expected from a remodel. They installed a black trim design that we never asked for and that was not even part of the original design, then had to respray it with a spray can to make it white. Now, that trim is already getting dirty and looks worse than it should for a newly remodeled bathroom. During that bathroom remodel, one of their workers also managed to damage the other side of the wall during the shower plumbing installation. Our bedroom wall ended up with a crack and a hole because of it. Of course, we informed them about it right away, and here we are months later, still waiting for it to be fixed. Apparently, fixing the damage they caused is not as urgent as starting more projects. We are also currently experiencing another issue with them on our other bathroom remodel (recent). They started demolishing the bathroom before there were even finalized designs or plans in place. Now, we have been left with only one functioning bathroom for almost a month, which is extremely difficult considering we are a big family. The bathroom is just sitting there unfinished while we continue waiting. They have also scheduled plumbers and technicians to come on specific dates and times, only for them to not show up and reschedule again. At this point, it feels like waiting has become part of the remodeling process. That seems to be the one thing they are consistently good at. Additionally, the ADU has been the biggest project my grandma trusted them with, and honestly, it has been ANOTHERRR source of stress. I just hope the ADU turns out decent and that we never have to deal with this company again. At this point, I feel like we experienced every possible thing that could go wrong with a contractor. We truly got the full experience. Even writing this review brings back all the frustration and stress we experienced throughout this process. If I could, I'd write a 10-page essay about all the botched work and unnecessary problems we had to deal with. If you're considering hiring them (absolutely not). I strongly recommend doing your research and getting multiple opinions before making a decision. Also, a big putangina to ORI and LEERON. After everything we went through, I sincerely hope this is the last time our family ever has to deal with this company. Crooks. Promised us the moon, showed us their ass. Told us we could get a longer window installed without measuring outside. Only way to get the longer window would have been to take off the garage roof. Said we had "black mold," would take $13k to remediate. It wasn't the toxic black mold, and remediation consisted of pulling down the drywall tape that wasn't supposed to be used in the bathroom. There was no mold in the walls, at all. All talk, no actual ability to follow through. They have multiple names that they use for setting up appointments, so watch out. I had three different sets of guys come out, all from what where supposed to be different companies. Utter incompetence combined with pure greed and blatant attempt at scamming us. Note that this is All Stars Builders, and not the much more reputable All Star Builders (no "s"). Even the name is a blatant attempt to trick you into thinking they are a much better company. read more

Empty promises, definitely not a professional contractor, crew with minimal experience. Stretching out a job that should last no more than one to two weeks turned into to 3 to 4 months. When they realize they make more damage than good, or can not do the job up to par, they start disappearing, no-shows on scheduled work, and eventually ghosted Save your time and energy do more research before looking into this one This is so true you get what you pay for, the bid looked good thought I was going to save on the $$. This is a joke of a company. Called me to solicit work, so I allowed them to visit my house to provide a quote for an ADU. They came and wasted an hour and a half of my time. A few days later their office called again (not remembering that they had already visited), asking to come to see my home. When I explained that they'd already come by and I just needed a quote, the office manager hung up on me. Do you think I ever got the quote? Of course not! If you find yourself in a position like myself where homeowners insurance did not cover the repairs for your home after all the crazy weather California has endured recently, well this review is for you. Pros of a builder: One stop shop meaning they do it all and provide warranty for the work being done. Another plus is that you have a team that is tasked to help you through the various stages of your project. One sales rep, project manager, a runner, and a finance specialist if you are financing. They setup a group chat and any issues that come up are addressed either quickly with a phone call or response in the group chat, which is a huge plus. Because our homeowners claim was denied, having permits and fixing the repairs to city code was extremely important to us so that we would not be denied again if all the proper inspections and paperwork was in order. Lastly, they provided proof of their insurance policy (worker's compensation and general liability insurance) in case there were any accidents or damages while the work is being done. This protects all parties involved and gives me peace of mind. There is a con and it's pricing. Less stress comes with a bigger price tag. So going with a builder can cost your budget more upfront, but long term it makes sense to get the job right. In my particular experience I have to remodel our fixer upper home that previously had repairs done to it by the previous owner who made a lot of short cuts to "save" money. They saved money and you can imagine how much more it cost me versus if it was done right to begin with. Here's what I learned through this process about pricing. A bid means a quote, which the builder will come out to give you. If you like the price, you sign the paperwork to get started. If you don't like the price then you can shop around to find something within your budget. I would strongly suggest to plan to budget an additional amount to your project budget because things come up and you don't want to stress over coming up with more money. With that said, would I go through a builder again. Absolutely. The pros outweigh the cons. Especially for the nightmare repairs I had to make because of the previous owner made cheap repairs that turned into a roof that had 5 layers of shingles, 17 solar panels, and a 500 lb air conditioning unit. We desperately needed to fix a leak in our ceiling from the roof. Lastly, we needed to remodel the bathroom to make it more ADA friendly. So I don't blame the insurance company for denying our claim or the builder for charging me more to fix it because it's more work. You are probably wondering how this house is still intact especially after all the crazy weather. The answer is this house is built of redwood. That's when the house project went from Johnny raincloud to little miss sunshine. But quickly went back to Johnny raincloud when black mold was found from the roof leak. So there were a lot of emotions and a lot of processing of information quickly. Then came the added costs and our team from all stars builder really came through for us. Our roof looks incredible. Our solar panels were setup for optimal functionality. No more black mold. But the best part is the bathroom is remodeled exactly how I designed it. Simple, easy to maintain, and clean. The worst company I have ever done business with. Actually we never were able to do business because of their incessant calling. Dozens of calls to confirm appointments, to make sure you're gonna be there, and to make sure you dedicate an hour for their hard sell. Then when I had enough of the calls and cancelled my appt they continued to call. Multiple times within the same ten minutes. Clown contractors. 2 twirps showed up to my house and gave me a 37K bid for a 5x8 bathroom remodel without even discussing finishes they just told me "there would be an allowance for that". Then they suggested getting mold tested by their friends company which cost me 300 dollars. Dude used a Q tip in the corner of the tub for 2 seconds then split. A couple days later they called and said I had dangerous mold in the bathroom and it's probably spreading.....what a joke. When I told them there would be no deal they said "good luck with the mold problem because it only gets worse". Fast forward a month and we removed the drywall surround for the tub and there's not a single spec of mold. My opinion, this contractor is just looking for gullable people to rip off! read more
