It's quite funny that most of these reviews being with "I like Joey's." There's not that much to dislike about Joey's. It's a classy place with a cool bar and the drink menu contains a cute, sarcastic handbook on how to use the menu itself to pick up members of the opposite sex. Service isn't bad and the food menu has a good selection, from pizzas to salads to ribs. But I think the problem with Joey's is that that's all there is. I don't have much to complain about (OK, my chicken was great- there really wasn't much edible meat on it) but there wasn't anything to make it special. My bellini tasted like a bellini, mashed potatoes tasted like normal mashed potatoes, and the waitress wore a little black dress. I would love to come back here next time and see/drink/eat something spectacular. read more

I've visited this location earlier this year, and left knowing I would come back. The staff were great to talk to and had good information on the dishes. The calamari was delicious, and came with tempura asparagus, my mom had an amazing salad that we both loved and my lobster raviolli was soo good! Business lunch? No better place to go. Need to take someone out for a nice meal? You can't go wrong with Joey. I had the filet mignon and it was delicious. My family took me here for my birthday and I walked out quite pleased. Upon arrival, I noticed the parking lot was packed, so we expected a long waiting time (we were a party of four). Luckily we were seated pretty quickly, in about ten minutes or less. The first thing that caught my eye was the bar area, which looked quite lively; lots of attractive twenty and thirty-somethings mingling and what not. The waitresses and bartenders weren't bad lookin' either. I'd love to stop by there another time when I'm not with my mother, older sister, and 14-year old cousin. Not exactly the ideal wingmen. I had a great 9oz steak, I forget what type exactly, which ran me around $32. Not bad for price, I guess, maybe on the high side. My family tried the seafood, chicken, and pasta, and were very pleased. Waiter was friendly, and not the kind that hovers impatiently around your table (I hate those), so no complaints here. The only negative was that the men's restrooms was a bit dodgy, I think one of the sinks or urinals wasn't working, and it was a mess. But I'm nitpicky about restrooms, so don't let that deter you in any way. They could have fixed things the next day for all I know. Overall, I had a good time. Recently went on a Mother Son date here to Joey South Common. All the Staff was really pleasant and prompt. Talked to my son like he was human and not an annoying child. Food was delicious. We had the Salmon. Done to perfection. Only thing I would like all these trendy popular restaurants to change. Your tables are too high. The table top was at my chest and I felt like a child sitting too far back and to low to the table. I am average height and it was uncomfortable. Otherwise I recommend Joey SC to anyone. Went here with a friend last night - somehow the first time I've ever been to Joeys, despite having friends work there. We walked in at about 7:30 on and saw several groups of people waiting to be seated, but found that there was immediate seating in the lounge - not having to wait on a Saturday night was nice. Good start. A waitress showed up after about 5-10 minutes, and drinks were a little slow to arrive after that, leaving us plenty of time to (try to) talk over the ridiculously loud music. Maybe it's quieter in the dining room, but in the lounge we could hardly carry on a conversation. Not cool. Our food arrived reasonably fast - I ordered the rotisserie chicken, she ordered the maple salmon. Our food was dropped off by a guy - not our waitress - and he returned a couple minutes later, realizing that he had brought out the wrong salmon dish, and quickly swapped out my date's plate for the correct one. I imagine her barely-touched original plate got thrown out (she would've gladly had it wrapped up and taken it home!), and there was probably a customer elsewhere who had to wait twice as long for his/her food. I'm told that the correct salmon was excellent, however there was way too much chicken for me to finish and it was a bit over-seasoned. Our waitress returned long after I had reached the bottom of my drink, and the refill wasn't quick either. Also, our bill was simply brought out to us - we would've liked to have it split, but were not offered that choice. The food was good enough that I'd gladly go back and give the dining room a try (both for noise and for perhaps better service), but I'd probably go at a less-busy time. read more

This is a "go to" place to take people for lunch for one of our suppliers. Dave always has the superfood 500 salad which sounds and looks good and healthy. I may have that next time. This time I went for a curried shrimp dish with rice. Very good. Lots of shrimp with a good mix of peppers and onions. Overall not bad. We went to the bar side to watch the hockey game. No they didn't win!!! It was a bit loud for us but we're older. We had the cauliflower appie and it was delish. Ask for the blue cheese dipping sauce. It works well and it is a mild blue cheese taste. We also had the California roll and I also recommend. The sliders were not that great. It pains me to leave a 2 star review. Joey South Common is a 5 star restaurant. It really is. But I cannot deny that I just had a 2 star experience. I went with my girlfriends. We all got steak. They all had beautiful steaks. My steak which was ordered medium well, confirmed by the waitress 'just a little pink in the center, right?' came out a bloody, disgusting, off-putting mess. I tried to eat it, i couldn't eat it and I told the waitress why not when she cleared my plate last at the very end of the meal. She offered for it to be recooked and I declined. I was already turned off by the puddle of blood on my plate. The waitress was very humble and apologetic. A Manger or lead was gracious enough to visit the table and offer an apology for my steak. We had a cheery exchange and decided on what thought was a fair offer, knock the dinner off and offer my 3 friends and I a round. Joey's is a big presence in Edmonton. We gladly pay top prices for top quality food and service. My friends and I were spending money. We had apps, mains, desserts and the drinks were flowing. We're regular, easy customers. Lo and behold I got my bill and was charged the full $29 for my absolutely inedible steak. A drink was taken off my bill, as was with my friends bills. .....but I was charged for the steak. I paid $68 for a meal that I was unable to eat because Joey's didn't cook it properly. Not cool. I just can't help but know that if had been at the Keg the meal and drinks and whatever else would have been necessary to ensure satisfaction and repeat business would have been politely taken care of. Sure I could have spoken up again. Had the steak wiped off my bill. But i had talked about it. I thought it was handled. I'm trying have a good time with my friends, I'm not here to go over issues. It should have been taken care of. And unfortunately we'll probably make plans at the Keg next time. read more

I've always had a very positive experience at this restaurant. The food is always great, the drink menu has some unique drinks, and the patio is beautiful and comfortable. My last experience though has officially made it my go to for bringing friends and family. I dined here with my aunt who is vegan. The hostess not only helped my aunt decide on a menu item but explained and wrote out for her exactly how to order it to ensure it was prepared vegan. Our server was friendly and cheerful throughout our experience, as were all the staff we spoke with. Our food came out quickly and was delicious as always. (The ahi tuna tacos are my favourite). Then when we asked for the bill the server came over and told us we were her favourite table that day and so they had comped our meal. I can not recommend this place enough. Love it! read more

My family and I went to Joey South Common to decompress and for dinner after a long day of travelling and then some rush shopping. We were totally impressed with our server, Ageta, and the whole Joey team. We lost count, but there must have been at least half a dozen different people that chipped in either bringing us extra menus, taking drink refill requests, delivering drinks, bring food, or taking away empty plates or glasses. It was wonderful how attentive everyone was and our dining experience didn't rely on the ability of one person in a busy restaurant on a Friday night. Quality and quantity not what they used to be. The staff are friendly and service was good, but the portion sizes have shrunk and the quality of ingredients is just not there for the price paid. For example, the tuna salad is advertised as containing mango, noodles and peanuts. The order came out with three small pieces of mango, five peanuts and no noodles. The quarter of a grape tomato really made up for it though. Go somewhere else, or prepare to be disappointed. read more

Arrived just before 5 pm. No hostess at the door to seat us. After waiting 10 minutes we went to find a manager who seats us and promises a high chair for the child with us (that never came). After being seated, 20 min without a server acknowledging us. I asked a staff member to send a server over. Another 5 min and still nobody acknowledges us. Find the manager again tell him we're ready to order but he only takes drink orders and we wait another 5 min for a server to arrive. So after 40 min. We have our order taken. Appetizers of course arrive before the drinks somehow. Then the entrées take 30 min. Plates are scattered all over the table throughout the meal and waters never once topped up. Then 15 min after asking for the bill were still waiting. I seek out a manager for a 3rd time and he brings the check with a half hearted apology. "It's busy". Well so is every other restaurant in the area that we'll be choosing again in the future. I love Joeys but this was hands down my worst dining experience. Enough to never return to this location. The dining room was only about 1/3 full, and there were tons of servers and hosts; we waited for service forever and were essentially ignored by staff. We waited for our food for over 45 minutes. Pleasant dining experience with an attentive staff. Went here with the girlfriend on a Monday night and chose to sit in the dining area vice the lounge area. The restaurant wasn't as full as expected for it being right around 7pm so the staff was very attentive with 2 separate servers asking us our drink and food orders and checking on us throughout the meal. Or maybe that is just the Joeys way? The food: She got a mushroom burger and I got the California chicken burger and both were delicious. The mushroom burger was much better (it was my original order but I didn't want to get the same thing as her!) as the meat was very tender and flavorful. Of course, the restaurant was packed, and the place does not take reservations so some people came early and found a table in the bar that we were able to pack into. We ended up waiting about an hour and finally got a table. The waitress in the bar made us settle up our bill with her, which was really inconvenient. Once we were actually sitting in the restaurant, our service went way downhill and the food ended up being over cooked and cold. What a bizarre combination, I know. Joeys never disappoints..at least not for me. While in Edmonton awaiting a flight I stopped by joeys for supper with a friend. From the start the service was great. Sure the girls are ridic pretty, but they're also pretty classy and totally friendly. We were seated very quickly by the hostess and just as quickly our drinks were ordered. Our server was cute, friendly and the right amount of chatty! The decor and style of this location is also worth mentioning as its unique and uber cool and artistic. We had beer and waters which came quick and was cold! I had chicken fettuccine Alfredo (unusual for me), and a delight it was. Unlike "cheap" versions which try to make it tasty with piles of thick sauce, this one has the perfect amount of sauce to cover noodles without having a soup. The topping of bruschetta was also quite delicious when mixed in. My friend had chicken souvlaki which was delicious and came with the usual delicious skinny fries! The water was kept refilled and we were never rushed (we were taking our time due to great chatting). Both very important when I'm dining. To top off the meal we got a usual for Joeys-the lavaaaa cake, which was so delicious I could have iced the plate. It was not, fresh, delicious, and lavalike:) served with delicious vanilla bean ice cream-it's a must have dessert. I love Joeys. The prices are great and the menu is pretty darn good. My only issue is with the fact that the menu rarely changes. Upon walking into a Joeys, you will notice two things. A friendly host/hostess will be there to greet you and take you to a table. Next, you will see a packed house. I dont know what it is about Joeys, perhaps the atmosphere, but it always seems packed to lid. That being said, I have never had to wait more than a moment for a table. The menu contains the usual suspects. Burgers, salads, apps and a decent selection of entre's. If I were to recommend anything though, I would say you have to try the Chicken Souvlaki. (forgive any spelling mistakes :-) Pair it with a salad and DO NOT try the house dressing. Some kitchens are a bit too inventive for their own good... this is one area where that is strikingly apparent. If your not a salad fan, try their fries with a side of Sambal Mayo. Went on a Saturday night, first time to Joey's, and only went because we had a gift card (but so glad we did!). Downside: we called earlier in the afternoon to make a reservation but they do not take reservations on weekends. Got there around 8:30pm in anticipation of it being busier closer to dinnertime but still had to wait 20-30 mins for a table for 2. Upside: We were treated with a complimentary glass of wine while we waited in the foyer which was a great way to pass the time. Food was priced reasonably, took an average amount of time to come out of the kitchen, and was served hot: started with the spinach and artichoke dip, nothing fancy but they provided us with an extra plate of chips at no extra charge; I had the Lobster Gilled Cheese Sandwhich as a main, the portion seemed small but was the best grilled cheese I have ever tasted, and a side of Mushroom Soup instead of fries, which was very enjoyable and not too rich tasting; my fiance had the Steak aux Champignon which he said was cooked perfectly, but the potatoes were the interesting part - fully loaded mashed potatoes with the potatoes inside crispy wonton wraps and the toppings (bacon, chives, cheese...) served on top of the wrap; shared a chocolate souffle for desert and it was well presented and deliciously melty (took a photo, will include). The service was exceptional, too. The dining room started to empty when we just got our entrees but we did not feel rushed or pressured to leave at all. My friends and I used to love going to Joey to enjoy some great food and drinks to all catch up! We were really looking forward to our last visit which ended up the worst experience I've ever had. Unfortunately our first round of drinks came out 20 min after we had ordered and the shots were not correct. We are all in the service industry so we understood and wanted another round just made the correct way next time. That did not happen. Drinks were coming out wrong over and over, there was a hair in our hummus and it took 30 min for a remake. The steak was ordered medium and came our very rare to the managers surprise she said should would fix it right away. The steak then took 50 minutes for a remake and when I politely asked another manager for a time frame of my steak because I was starving I was barked at very rudely and felt so disgusted by the way she replied and treated me. I then had snacked on my friends other food and said I didn't want my steak anymore. The manager said she would take care of the steak but it was never taken care of and my friend paid for the bill so we could leave. We understand things go wrong and it was not our servers fault but she lost her communication with us and was scared to come back to our table and transferred us to another server??? Not sure what's going on at this location but definitely don't want to come back after that even though I love some of the girls at this location. read more

My parents and I were at joeys for my mom's birthday and we had a wonderful evening. The food was great and I must compliment you on your amazing, outstanding spaghetti and meatballs- this dish is the best I've tasted in any restaurant and being a pasta lover, I've tried them all! The meatballs were very flavorful and I could taste the basil in the sauce and the meat which made it all the tastier. The spice level was perfect for me- just a bit of kick without being overwhelming. This will be my go to dish from now on, so please don't take it off the menu! I've decided that I want to celebrate my own birthday in June here, so I hope you'll have the spaghetti and of course the delicious apple pie which we always get for dessert. They did comp a round of drinks from the bill but we were charged full price on the food. The waitress was wonderful! We just had issues with the food. Three of us had ordered the filet mignon which were not cooked according to our order each time. I ended up asking for a chicken sandwich instead....which turned out really good! DO NOT GO! EXPENSIVE AGONY! Party of 5 at near end of dinner service with only half empty restuarant. Literally, it took OVER 1 HOUR to finally get one chicken wings, one steak medium rare, one rib dinner, & 2 overcooked, stuck together alfredo dinners. Don't even get me started how long it took to see our wait staff, get our drinks (3 waters, 2 pop, 2 coffees), our appetizers (one starter salad, one spinach dip), or empty water glasses refilled!!!! Did I mention our ghost of our waiter who did a fabulous job of avoiding our table. We weren't even verbose or rude, so why didn't he come and perform his duties???? Service and arrival of food/beverage in almost empty restuarant were incredibly LONG...would have walked out but we already ordered! Should have and let them deal with it! No apology, no explanation, near empty restuarant...even after informed manager who then never come back. (Saw him socializing at the bar with his staff..great management!!!) The food is good. However, the service is more catered to men. Me and my mother went to this location for dinner, the happy hour menu was still on the table so we ordered from the happy hour menu, only to realize 2 drinks and 1 appetizer in that it was no longer happy hour but the menu was still out. I had to go to the bar for more water because the waitress couldn't be bothered to fill it up once. Keep in mind I was polite during this entire dinner with the waitress. I asked for ice in my water and she laughed, and said oh you want ice ?? During the payment, I had a gift card, she decided to mention that the tip will be based on the new bill (minus $50 gift card) and that I should tip her based on the new bill.
