The atmosphere of the restaurant is quite nice, definitely on the fancier side, and it felt really classy. I would recommend dressing up a little bit, if you want to match the vibes. The food was pretty good, I ordered the Herb Crushed Salmon and it was surprisingly very fresh. It was seasoned simply, considering the name of the dish, but it still tasted really good. Definitely use the lemon if you're looking for a more sour kick. The drinks were also good, a touch on the pricier side, but overall not too ridiculous. The service was on the slower side, which was a bit disappointing. After ordering drinks, the staff took a while to come back to take our food orders. The arrival of said food orders also took a while, so I don't think you should come here when you're super hungry lol. Overall though, not a bad experience, and I would probably go back sometime down the road.

Szechuan chicken for the lettuce wraps
Vilma R.

Always a hit at Joey restaurants. I had a gift card that I received so we came here for happy hour after the stingers game. It was great service and excellent food quality. The vibe in here is casual cool and it was full of people on a Thursday night which was nice to see. We ordered off the happy hour menu, steak frites, Szechuan chicken lettuce wraps, and sushi cones. On of our cones was falling over but the taste was still good. Our steak was cooked to perfection which is always nice to see and the lettuce wraps were crispy, the chicken was so flavourful, we were definitely satisfied with our meal. Highly recommend Joey restaurant for a date night. The booths are intimate and cozy too!

Joeys is always a tasty time. They were extremely BUSY on a Saturday night, & as such our service was quite slow. But our groups food & drinks were good (just SLOW). The overall vibes were great, & everyone was just having a good time ~ We occasionally come by for happy hour & dessert (to avoid the long wait during peak times at this location)!

Over priced, over lemoned ravioli
Jennie L.

Overpriced. Food was disappointing. I ordered the lobster ravoli and it was tiny for 30 bucks. I actually had to eat something after I came home. The ravoli was fine but way too little of it and way too much lemon in the lemon cream sauce. Ruined the whole dish. I should have sent it back but I didn't want to create a scene at my friends birthday. My husband's burger was okay at best. It was overcooked and cold. It was sitting in the warming area for awhile. Both of us were super disappointed in the quality of the food, the service which was super spotty and the price point was way overmarked. We only went here because it was the birthday girl's choice but this confirmed why we don't eat here. Go support a local family run business that cares about thier food. Don't waste your cash here.

Medium rare 6 oz Steak Frites

Nancy and I felt like a simple steak meal, so we headed over to Joey South Common for their Steak and Frites for $22.50 during Happy Hour ( 2 to 5 PM), also sharing an order of Yam fries to start. Arriving at about 4 PM, we were quickly seated, our friendly and accommodating waitress Shawnee brought us 2 glasses of cold water and a wedge of lemon on request, taking our orders promptly. We were actually quite surprised by the speed of service as the meals arrived in about 10 minutes, along with the order of Yam Fries which we had anticipated nibbling on while we waited for our steaks. The Yam fries came with a dip of spicy aioli and were nicely crisp, but otherwise unremarkable. Nancy's steak, ordered medium rare, arrived a few moments ahead of mine which was ordered rare, the reverse of what I would normally expect as the server apologized stating that mine was still being prepared. Oddly, my steak was very apparently less than the advertised 6 oz (my wife's looked about right), so I have some thoughts that mine may have been overcooked initially and replaced at the last minute with a thinner steak. If this wasn't the case, the kitchen really should monitor more carefully the portioning sizes, but this can be a common issue at some restaurants. Regardless, I didn't feel the need to bring up the issue with the staff. Though the steaks were presented well and came topped with a slice of maitre 'd butter (or maybe just plain garlic butter?), I believe that the chef would do better with a slightly heavier hand with the seasonings as we both found the steaks slightly under seasoned even though we had plenty of fresh ground pepper to top the meat. The experience was "okay" and in keeping with this type of restaurant. Personally, I would save up a few shekels and order a steak at a finer dining establishment, but I really can't fault the service, nor the speed at which we were in and out of Joeys.

Tofu bowl
Hector I.

Joey's is a franchise type of restaurant very similar to moxies or Earls. The restaurant is quite big and spacious. The service was prompt and average. I ordered the tofu bowl which was good. My only issue is that the price is not consistent with the portion or the flavor. I suggest looking at all these aspects so they are consistent. I wouldn't say the menu is anything extraordinary. Overall I wouldn't think of Joey's as a place to go.

Elderberry Collins and Green tea

The ambiance, lighting, and decor is very modern here; with a wooden chandelier, and a wall of wine, it gives it an elegant, yet new age style and look that makes for a great atmosphere and experience. The hostess, server, and porters were steadily coming to the table to make sure all was okay. The food was amazing; the steak was a perfectly done medium grilled, as per request; the asparagus had a juicy, yet tender, crunch; and the salad was fresh with an mouth-wateringly tangy dressing. The service and food are top notch, and I would definitely go again to be able to experience some of the other options on the menu, such as sushi. The washroom is clean, and has some high tech sink apparatus to wash and dry your hands in the same place. All in all, happy to have visited Joey South Common. Will go again!

Checked out this restaurant on Friday evening in South Common. Online reservation was not available. Waiting time for Walk-in was around 30 minutes. Finally got a table and we ordered food quickly. Order: Baja Fish Tacos: Fish and Valentina's guacamole wrapped in white corn tortilla topped with cheese. Tacos were too salty and i could not enjoy it. I tried fish tacos from Julio's barrio too but they were far better than this. Hand-pressed Burger: Angus beef with mushroom cheddar and cheddar bacon was also a normal burger, i didn't find anything wow in this burger leaving me quite disappointed. Rating: Ambience: 4/5 ( Ambience was cheerful and vibrant) Service: 4.5/5 (Service was pretty fast) Taste : 3/5 ( Baja Fish tacos were pathetic) Presentation: 3/5 Value for money: 3/5 ( I believe, i will think twice before coming here again)

Excellent food and service was great Thanks Marcus! Best food I have had in the last ten years! EXCELLENT!!!!! 10/10

Great vibes and interior. Our server was really on top of their game and made sure we had what we needed. The food is good, somewhat overpriced. The drink didn't taste strong at all. Nice place to go to catch up with friends.

Wait what? How have I not reviewed this location? I know it's a chain, but this is honestly in my top 5 favourite restaurants in the City. The quality is always spot-on and my steak is always cooked perfectly. It's a little noisy in the dinning room, but that adds to the atmosphere I think. I have basically ordered the same thing for about 7 years here and am always happy with my choice. I love that you are offered a glass of wine or champagne while you wait for your table. Service is almost "over the top" good here. On my most recent visit, we were served by a lovely lady named Nikki. She played off the energy of our table perfectly. They've changed the menu a little bit, but the staples are still there!

It's been quite a few years since I've been here. I have only sat in the bar/lounge area, but it still looks trendy inside, albeit a bit dark. The place is still just as packed as I remember, so it's still the place to go après work. The staff are super friendly and attentive. I order the BBQ salmon rice bowl for dinner which I found cooked very well. The salmon piece was quite small but not dry. The garnish on top was fresh and overall the dish was well prepared. My seat in the booth was broken and I had to sit a bit askew. I forgot to mention this to the server. I would come here again.

They do appetizers, steaks, handhelds, pasta, soups and salads, and main dishes. They also have a decent vegatarian section with some vegan. I do feel though it is slightly overpriced for what you get. They seem to do really well, it was very busy when we went on a Saturday evening. Design was nothing spectacular and pretty generic. It was fairly loud because it was so busy. Our server was great though. Really friendly and helpful. Even though it was busy she made sure that our water was filled up and that the food was to our satisfaction. We both decided on the short rib beef dip with braised beef rib, caramelized onions, aged cheddar, garlic aioli, toasted sourdough + au jus. I upsized my fries to truffle parm fries with dip for an extra charge. Food came out fairly quickly considering it was full in there. It was nicely plated. Sandwich was good. Loved the toasted bread. Meet was decent but not outstanding, but paired well with the onions, cheddar and aioli. What was the star was the truffle fries. So delicous and crispy. Loved the dip that it came with. My friend seemed happy with hers too. This wouldn't be the first place that I would go to, but I would be disappointed going there with friends.

We rented one of their private karaoke rooms and I would definitely say it was quite fun. It was a small room with standard lighting, however, I'd say it would sit 4-5 people comfortably. The karaoke experience itself was pretty good; the rooms were noise-cancelling enough as to not annoy the guests in the lounge area and the machines were very good with a clean user interface. I love the relaxed atmosphere of this place -- definitely perfect to sing your heart out! The audio was good and provided crisp microphone vocals and the surround sound speakers were amazing. One of the let-downs overall was mostly with the food and drinks; personally, I did not enjoy any of them and found them to be quite overpriced. We ordered the Sweet Potato Fries, the Lychee Cocktail, Chicken Stew with Rice, Takoyaki, Pina Colada (and others). Overall, I felt that all of them were quite bland in terms of flavour. The beverages could have contained more acidity or some element of flavour that makes it a little bit more interesting. As for the food, I did not particularly enjoy the presentation nor was the taste any better. The chicken dish which I acquired was very plain and boring, I honestly expected better for the price-tag it had. The only dish I ordered that was decent was the Takoyaki which was surprising. Overall, I like this place and I would definitely recommend coming here for karaoke with friends. Their casual service and atmosphere is welcoming and hassle-free. The whole experience was smooth and I enjoyed the private room which we had. I am just very, very disappointed about the quality of their food and custom beverages.

Well, where do I start....I have been fine dining in Edmonton for about 15 years. During that time…read moreI have found found a couple of places that were my go to, but sadly over time things have changed. Cafe DeVille was one, it closed its doors. Another go to was the Wildflower Grill downtown, went there about a month ago after not having gone for a couple years...well I didn't even bother with a review, ownership has changed and I'll never go again. So my well had kind of run dry, until last night. I moved to the south side of Edmonton last July, to the Blue Quill area. Travelling around my new neighbourhood I noticed a sign that was conspicuously inconspicuous, if you know what I mean, kind of out of the way unless you're looking for it, on the northeast corner of 23 and 110 st. Having run out of other places to go for a fine dining experience, and quickly losing faith I'm Edmonton and its ability to provide me with the foodie experience I require, me and my friend decided to give it a go. I had called ahead to make sure they weren't packed full, as it was Grey Cup Sunday. Upon walking into Bistecca, we were immediately greeted by Josh, he had taken my reservation, and immediately remembered my name when I said our reservation time....BAM, great first impression. We were seated, and to my mild suprise, Josh was also going to handle serving type duties, along with his already tiptop maitre'd services. He took the time to explain the menu, and their different foods, as I had told him we were first time diners at Bistecca. Now I have this thing where I like to read all the one star reviews on a place before going, I want to see what people saw as issues, then I will watch for and evaluate based on this. I mean why bother with 5 star reviews, they all say the same thing, but 1 star....well then you're into the meat of any issues. We started with an appetizer sampler, as suggested by Josh, and I also had the mussels....sorry I can't resist them if on menu. The mussels were delicious, huge and fresh. The broth was to die for, and bowl was empty of both mussels AND broth when I was finished. My only issue was that there was no bread served with the mussels, it had come before, and was warm, so wanted to eat right it straight away. The appy sampler was okay, we had smoked salmon, calamari, chicken fried bacon, and a beef skewer. This was OK, its for two people, and was fine, but I think the way to go is to just get one full appetizer, as its easier to be good at one thing than, than four at a time. On to mains, I ordered mid range California Cabernet with dinner. I ordered the lamb shank, and my friend had the ravioli, which we were told is made in house. As I went to cut my first bite of lamb, knife in hand I tried to cut into lamb....... No need for cutting, it was so tender it literally fell off the bone...WOW, haven't had lamb that delicious since Cafe DeVille was open going back 5 years at least. My friend had the ravioli, and of course I sampled it.....best I've ever had. Sauce was absolutely fantastic, I am assuming its homemade, it was to good to be otherwise, ravioli was cooked perfectly al dente, it was heaven. When I go out for nice meal, I want the experience to couple with the food and take me to that happy place where your serotonin and wine compliment each other and you're kind of floating as you leave, Bistecca did that for me. Josh was fantastic in his role as server, conversationalist, and chief minister of food joy. I don't want to be a nitpicker like those one star reviewers, there were a couple of things that I personally would like to see, bread coming with mussels, a rim of sugar and some cinnamon on my Spanish coffee, but that's about it. As for the low reviews, one of them was that the server tried to upsell the customer. Josh suggested a wine that was 125 a bottle, and I'm sure it's a great wine, but I wasn't offended by that one bit, ultimately its my choice, and it certainly took nothing away from the experience. Bistecca knows how to treat you, food is delicious, and the atmosphere is great. Doesn't matter where you go, if you're looking for an issue you can find it, but Bistecca has figured it out, and on a Grey Cup Sunday, it was a touchdown

The service was excellent, as always, but our two dinners were very sub-standard. My wife had her favourite, Risotto Of The Day. The texture & flavour of the Risotto didn't agree with her and chunks of the short ribs were way too "chewy/sinewy". She couldn't eat most of the ribs and left much of the risotto. I ordered the $46 Rib Eye steak which, at that price, one would expect to be very tender & delicious. It always has been in the past, but not so this evening. I ordered it medium but think it was under cooked. Regardless, it had lots of gristle, difficult to chew and not very flavourful. Having expressed my disappointment, to their credit, they cooked me another steak. I ordered this second steak medium-well and while it was certainly better than the first, still didn't meet the standard of what I expected and had experienced in the past. Despite no charge for either meal, my wife & I left very disappointed, wondering if we will ever return.
