So we made a reservation here for our group and our table was available shortly after we arrived (slightly early). The menu had limited options for gluten-free diets which was a downer since one of our group had to have gluten-free food. Additionally while the restaurant seemed more than adequately staffed (especially since it was not busy) we had incredibly slow service and staff did not refill our water glasses with any regularity (which was an issue as one person in our group tried a hot pepper and needed a beverage pretty desperately). The food itself was all right but nothing to write home about so to speak. I found the flavours of my tuna poke bowl to be indistinct and bland compared to what I was expecting. So all in all we don't recommend seeking this place out necessarily -- it was all right but not exceptional. read more

Stopped here for a quick lunch. Over all the food and service was really good and it was not busy at all so it was very peaceful and quiet. My partner and I sat at the bar and were immediately welcomed with water and a question on drinks. We ordered: Gin-Redbull 10/10, can't go wrong! Trash Panda hazy IPA, 9/10. Tuna Club- 8/10 Salt and pepper wings, with hot sauce and ranch on the side- 10/10 Truffle fries- 9/10 Everything was really good, only changed we would have liked to see was adding something to the tuna club to either make it a little spicy or tone down on the sweetness. It was still really good with a perfect rare cook on the tuna, but when reading that it had a radish sauce I was hoping for that little kick from the radishes, I think adding a little wasabi to the sauce would make it perfect but would still order again. If you're thinking about ordering it and like a little spicy kick I would ask them to add spicy aioli to it! Celebrating my cousins 30th birthday, we were invited for dinner to this establishment. There were about 12 of us, and they were able to accomodate a large table in the lounge area which was nice. It was raining that evening so we decided to pay the big money and park underground but quickly learnt that after 6pm Joey's closes the door from inside the bell tower so you still need to enter from outside. That was definitely annoying. The service was mediocre. Our server was not really around often but she was nice enough. As for the food, everyone got the correct dishes, so that was nice and quality was pretty good. The removal of the stars was for: 1. Service - If the one server was too loaded maybe assign 2 to a big table. 2. Parking - would love to see them keep that entrance open from the towers. What a wonderful experience, start to finish. We had reservations and were a bit early but we were seated almost immediately and were accommodated to a booth as requested, no issues. I ordered the Cuvée French white wine, which was bright and crisp and had a wonderful nose. Hubs had an old fashioned, which I usually find too strong but this one was a bit smoother. Had the steak and lobster ravioli, so delicious, just melt in your mouth, I'm pretty picky with steak and this was amazing Hubs had the baby back ribs, with coleslaw and the house salad. The house salad was really amazing with fresh currants Hubs ordered the baked apple tart with maple ice cream, the ice cream was just incredible. Ordered the creme brule cheesecake it was the best cheesecake I have ever had, full stop. It was so creamy and velvety with real vanilla seeds and the classic sugar crack top. This is a very elegant and beautiful looking place, but it is extremely busy; or at least it is each time I go here. The most recent experience had us waiting in the lobby for 15 minutes, which gave us time to veiw the menu on their website, and choose what we wanted, so we were ready to order right away (due to time constraint for another planned event). When we were sat, due to miscommunication between the host and servers we were sitting at the table for 17 more minutes before we asked someone cleaning a different table over to our table, because we hadn't been asked for a drink order as of yet. Once we had a server assigned to our table, we got in our orders and the food was surprisingly fast. The Matcha Mojito was so good, I had to have two! The steak and asparagus were both cooked to perfection! The server was polite, and gave a great explanation of the different options available as side dishes, he was quick to bring us the food, and then the bill, along with the debit machine when we asked. Other than the wait when we arrived, to experience the food here, it is worth the wait. This was not the first time I have been here, and most like will go again. Great happy hour deals. I lOVE the lettuce wraps. Probably the best here than anywhere else in the city. Great location in the heart of dt. Only downside is parking but its the best place near the arena for drinks or food. Pre or post oilers games or any rogers are a events. Servers are always nice and friendly. The bar can be slower service as its haphazard service...no forks served with meals, or no straws with drinks...etc. guess they r decent bartenders but terrible waitresses. What a terrible experience. The TV is a like a blinding billboard in Times Square, completely dominating your experience. They overcharge for wine, the 8oz happy hour is actually more than the 5oz. Then when you ask about it the server is gleeful in responding that she already knows. They underpour beer. You ask to speak to a manger who passes the buck and claims she has no ability to solve any problems. Go literally anywhere else in downtown Edmonton. This is not an enjoyable experience. read more

We come here regularly to eat since we live in the vicinity. My son loves that they have a kids menu available even though it's not readily advertised. He gets the kid's sliders with fries and we love the hummus appetizer and seared salmon sushi. The service from hostesses and servers is usually top notch. Our last visit however left us a bit let down from the hostess and greeting perspective. We arrived with a stroller since we always walk over. Since the main doors are the revolving type we cannot enter through those. Normally the hostesses out front see this and immediately come to open the side doors however this time around the one hostess who was standing at her assumed spot saw us as didn't even open the door. She just stood there and smiled. I had to wait until my husband finally made it into the restaurant for him to open the door for me. Then we request a high chair for the table and usually they bring it with them and install before we are seated but this time the same hostess chose to sit us down in a booth with menus before leaving again to get the chair. She then passes the chair to my husband and asks if he doesn't mind installing it himself and left a few vague words for installation. I mean yes my husband can certainly do it but we both looked at each other after and commented how poor the service was from this hostess. The restaurant wasn't even busy. I literally counted 4 tables occupied including ours in the entire restaurant that afternoon. I ordered the Crispy tofu bowl. The bowl is delicious but on thr pricey side. For 21 dollars I expect more flavor to warrant this. Came here for a work lunch for around 10 people at 11AM. There were no problems with reservations and we were seated promptly when we arrived. The servers were attentive and food came at a decent pace. 11AM must have been a good time to come because the place was still pretty empty at that time. However it wasn't long before the place was packed after us. I ordered the BBQ Salmon Rice Bowl. The dish included sweet sesame soy sauce, snap peas, edamame, mushrooms, daikon. It had great presentation and the taste did not disappoint. The salmon mixed well with the sauce and was nicely cooked. My fiancé and I ended up at Joey's Bell Tower while searching for an restaurant to dine at during a late night drive. The restaurant is situated in a fairly decent spot, it wasn't all too loud and the NHL bubble is within the vicinity so the streets are closed off for the most part. Our server was super professional and had us well informed. My fiancé started with their "Real Peach Bellini" $8 1/2/ $6 during happy hour (HH). It's made with 1 oz Appleton Estate Signature Blend rum, real peach molasses, sparking wine, sangria. For our appetizer we ordered a serving of their "Japanese Gyoza" $14 1/2/ $10 1/2 HH made w/ pork dumplings with hot mustard. These were amazing. Overshadowed only by the acquired taste of the "Hot Wings" $14¾ Frank's hot sauce, creamy blue cheese dip. We personally didn't like the wings. They were fairly small wings with barely any meat on them, with an overpowering sauce that was sourish didn't help the lack of meat situation. For our main course we had "Roasted Peanut Curry Noodle Bowl" $22 came with seared prawns, malaysian coconut curry, rice noodles, roasted broccoli. Which was super delicious to say the least. Everything just complimented the flavour of one another in this noodle bowl; would honestly love to just sit down and have a bowl of the curry broth. Pretty sure I even saw some sprouts in there, I could be wrong. After trying a lot of different types of curries in the past and this one came close to a type of Thai Curry I once tried in the Grande Prairie area. The "Baby Back Ribs" - Full $33¼ slow-braised-in-house, bbq sauce, served with fries, & dill slaw. Loved the fall of the bone ribs, however I never liked the fact this thing was super covered with just way too much sweet bbq sauce. I'm a huge meatatarian and even I couldn't finish the ribs, the sauce gets old pretty quick. Overall the service was great, their covid-19 protocols are on point. The service here was very good. The servers were very attentive, friendly, and at the same time, unobtrusive. The atmosphere here was great and unhurried. I was eating with a few work colleagues and it was quieter so it was easy to hear everyone talking. The issue I have is that I ordered my steak rare and it came out medium well. It was a nice piece of meat just cooked incorrectly. This is plainly not acceptable for an upscale restaurant. The minimum standard is that steak should be cooked as ordered. The good news is I ordered a side of mushrooms. They served plenty of mushrooms and they were quite tasty. The asparagus was cooked nicely as well and was tasty. The bottom line is this is a nice place to eat as far as atmosphere. There is no excuse for the meat to be cooked incorrectly though. The steak is supposed to be the star of the meal and it plainly was not. read more

Stopped at Joey's before the Little Big Town concert at Rogers. Wait time was 20 minutes but we got in much quicker than that. We were seated in a nice open part of the restaurant close to the fireplace. Our drink orders were taken by the hostess which was great! No waiting. We didn't order appetizers as we were on a time constraint. I had the Hourly Roasted Chicken Sandwich (no cheese) with fries and my husband had the Chicken Club. Both were amazing! Surprisingly amazing. The sauce on the Roasted Chicken was the best part. Toasted sourdough bread with rosemary a close second place. I would rate it as one of the top three sandwiches I've ever had. I just came here with a friend on the first nice Friday of the year. We were looking all around downtown to grab a spot on the patio since the weather was beautiful that day. The lineups were all massive until we came across this place for the first time. We asked for a patio spot, we were immediately seated and even offered a free glass of champagne along the way! The service was awesome from start to finish and that's one of the highlights of this experience I had. We were constantly checked on and never left for long so we always had what we wanted. They make some awesome cocktails here too: their Super Stoked Vodka Cokes will win anyone over. My rotisserie chicken was cooked perfectly, the lava cake afterward was delicious too and the atmosphere was great on top of it all. Nice, spacious place downtown, nice ambience. It's clearly popular with folks working nearby because it gets packed at lunch - make a reservation or avoid the peak 12-1 timeframe, otherwise you'll have a long wait. I've been here twice so far and the food was good both times (first time, a rice bowl; second time, prime sirloin). Service is mostly prompt, until you pay the bill, after which you may never see them again -- we paid promptly as the person paying had to leave slightly early, and the rest stayed behind to finish their last few drinks and food. One person wanted to get a box for their left overs and we simply could not flag down a server for 10 minutes, eventually had to ask one of the hostesses for help. The main reason I wouldn't come here often is the calorie counts on their menu are quite high, and not clearly listed anywhere, so if you're trying to pick a healthy choice it's quite challenging. For example, their mashed potatoes are served in a spring roll wrap which is then deep fried and topped with all sorts of extras - delicious and crispy, but also 800 calories or more, and that's just for the side that you'd get included when you order something ELSE. read more

Upon entering I was impressed with the brick work, which I'm sure you'll enjoy and can't miss walking in. Two staff greeted us with warm smiles and took us to the terrece. The decor is beautiful. The use of brick work and iron are contrasted with wooden tables that are smoothed slabs of original tree trunks. The terrece has a warm fireplace in the centre and large garage doors that open and close depending on weather. The light fixtures are again golden yellow industrial style pieces of artwork in themselves. And somewhere on a back wall the yellow neon lights spell Uptown. The interior was unlike any other restaurants in it's category. The menu boasted of tacos, sushi, burgers and pasta. An odd mix, but one you often find at this level. Our waitress Victoria was by immediately to introduce herself and offer drinks. As it was a working lunch we ordered tea and soda. I settled on the Veggie Burger with no dairy and Victoria was quick to ask if it was an allergy or dietary preference. After informing her I was vegan she went out of her way to ensure the whole meal was vegan. She offered me a lettuce bun because the bread was made with animal products. I appreciated it. Unfortunately the kitchen staff were not as knowledgeable or at least paying attention because my lettuce veggie burger came with a lot of mayonnaise. Victoria immediately wanted to fix it but I declined. I removed the lettuce bun and ate the burger like a dish. The shoestring french fries were excellent! They were my favorite part of the meal. With a nutritional value of 1000 calories I'm hoping the absence of the cheese, mayonnaise and bun took that down a notch. I was not impressed with the kitchen staff or the food. Like many restaurants on this level, like Earl's, Moxie's and Cactus Club, asking to customize or even omit items can be untrustworthy. It's disappointing. I have previously dined at other Joey locations and the food between the restaurants is pretty standard, so there wasn't anything really unexpected in that regard. There is a decent range of offerings on the menu, so this makes for a nice place to take a large group where people all have different tastes, preferences, and needs! I ordered the Bombay Butter Chicken, which came with both rice and naan on the side and it just hit the right spot on a chilly day. The food was great and the service was attentive as well. The only real fault is that the music was quite loud, and because of that, it was a little difficult to chat with others in the group, as you could really only hear the person sitting directly beside you. read more

The new location has kept the JOEY-style open concept kitchen, with even more floor space for guests, exterior glass walls around the building, and a covered all-season garden terrace with large double-sided fireplace in place of a traditional patio. The servers and event planners at the media launch did an amazing job of accommodating my gluten intolerance, providing me with a number of options and alternatives to the set menu. I'll outline both kinds of food in this post. We started off the evening with some Hawaiian Tuna Tacos, Osaka-style Pressed Salmon Sushi, and the Night Market Curry Dip. On the gluten-free side, I was given a personal tuna taco served on a lettuce leaf. And it was amazing. Everyone at our table raved about the tacos, which were light and fresh with an abundance of tuna and avocado. While I've had pressed salmon sushi recently at Dorinku on Whyte (which was great), I steered away from this one because I didn't know what was in the sauce. The gluten-lovers at our table found them a delicious appetizer and looked longingly at the next table, who'd ordered more to share. The curry dip came with naan bread, so alas, was out of my reach, but I took a taste of the curry sauce and found it fragrant and savoury, though not nearly as spicy as I would've liked. They do use a vindaloo-style to make this curry, but with none of the traditional vindaloo heat. While everyone was snacking on the curry dip, I was given a portion of the Superfood 500 Salad, which features organic quinoa, plenty of raw vegetables, watermelon radish, mint, parsley, and avocado. I usually don't like too much quinoa, but this was a well-proportioned and deliciously fresh salad. I'd definitely order it again-and wouldn't feel guilty about eating it. Main courses for the regular peeps was three variations of the Chef's Daily Rotisserie Chicken (Peri Peri, Vindaloom, and Angry Bird), along with a huge pan of Spanish Paella with shrimp and chorizo. They both looked excellent, though the consensus at our table was definitely the Angry Bird flavoured rotisserie chicken. During this course, I was given a full plate of the Herb Crush Salmon with lemon butter, mashed potatoes, and seasonal vegetables. Perfectly cooked, well-seasoned, and filling. I could barely finish the salmon, let alone all of the sides. Dessert was JOEY's homemade Spun Daily Ice Cream which, thankfully, I could eat. We had a few spoonfuls of the salted caramel ice cream and it was the perfect end to our meal-and quite possibly my favourite thing on the menu. Homemade ice cream...you just can't beat it. At the end of the day, I really enjoyed my meal here. The Bell Tower location isn't drastically different from any other JOEYs restaurant, but if you've eaten at the chain before and enjoyed the fashionable nature of the restaurant's interior and menu, you can add this location to your list. It's perfect for after-work drinks, pre- or post-game beers and snacks, or just a semi-dressy lunch or dinner with coworkers, friends, or family. As a flagship location, you'll see more variation and culinary innovation on the menu than at other locations, so it's worth a try for that reason alone. And if that still doesn't convince you, stop by for a scoop of the salted caramel ice cream one evening. That, my friends, is worth the drive. read more
