Joey's is a Springfield staple. When it comes to pizza, they are basically a greasy version of Abby's- pretty similar in taste. I am DEFINITELY NOT a fan, but my family loves it. That being said, we are not likely to return any time soon- and it is not because of the pizza... This building is a dump. It is ALWAYS filthy- especially the bathrooms. Great service great pizza. Whenever I'm in Springfield it's a go to place. I love the light sauce and crunchy crust.

I've actually given myself a little time to reflect on my visit before leaving a review. Left there over an hour ago. Still can't believe what I saw. I was told before we went that it was kind of a divey place and not to expect much. No worries. I frequent divey places, yet this place still fell short. At first glance, the building was definitely lackluster, but once inside, it was frightening. It was a rainy day in Springfield and the roof was leaking like a worn out Detroit Diesel. The tables that were bussed from previous customers were covered in rain water and could not be occupied. There were bus trays on the floor collecting the water from the leaking roof. Water was literally leaking through electric light fixtures. Can't believe this place is allowed to remain in business. Especially in Lane County where they make it hard to be in business anyway. The pizza was atrocious. Anyone who gives this crap a positive review has obviously never had good pizza. This puke with pepperoni makes DiGiorno frozen pizza look like it came straight out of Brooklyn. I will say that the kids that took our order were polite, but they never did come from behind the counter to clear a table or wipe the rain water off of the tables. If I could give less than 1 star I would. I guess the locals love this place but between OSHA and the board of health, this place should be out of business. read more

When they call a place a "dive," they have places like this in mind. The building is a bit worse for wear. The interior hasn't been touched in decades. The bathrooms are shoehorned into the middle of the room, and the fixtures are straight out of a grade school circa 1970. There are arcade video games from 20-30 years ago. It all looks like a perfect candidate for one of those reality shows where a chef swoops in to rescue a failing business, except Joey's isn't failing. It seems to be doing quite nicely. DLW and I stopped in for Saturday lunch, and found the parking lot at least half-full. Inside a big party was underway. The cook told us they were Springfield High grads having a reunion, something like 45th year. A couple of other tables were taken, but otherwise it was just us and them. We ordered a salad and half-and-half pizza. The salad was decent, fresh lettuce with lots of ham, shredded cheese and pineapple, a salad for people who say they don't eat salad. The pizza was one of the strangest I've seen: thin crust, very little sauce, absolutely loaded with toppings. The Heart Warmer half had pepperoni, onion and jalapenos, and lived up to its name. The other half, Chef's Special, had very large slices of tomato covering the rest of the toppings. It looked awkward, but tasted pretty good. The tomato added some much needed juiciness. They serve beer on tap, and a small pitcher holds enough for three glasses, just right for a twosome. It does what it's supposed to do, which is serve simple pizzas in a no-frills atmosphere. If you like pizza loaded up with toppings, you ought to like it a lot. It's not my preference, though. I prefer a well-developed crust that stands on its own without needing help from toppings, but that's me. read more

The kids enjoyed playing video games-- $5 went a long way. We ordered 2 pizzas: Beer Truck Driver (or something like that) w tomato and a pepperoni for the kids. Both were very good. Yep, this pizza is great! Forget the ambiance because you are not paying for it here. This place has remained largely unchanged since I started going here as a kid in the mid sixties. OK, I'm not disputing some of the comments previously made. I agree. The place is old, dark and hasn't changed in more than thirty years. The employees surely don't love their jobs and it shows. They are just doing their time and don't appear to give a damn. So many reasons to complain BUT the pizza is delicious. I like alphabet night (tonight is MY night) and I try to take advantage of it when I can. Yes, only the pepperoni and canadian bacon/pineapple are included in the special. The pepperoni is great but if you want the best, try the Beer Drivers Special. It is truly an artery clogger but has been a fave for years. For those of us who had to grow up in Springfield and have since moved to the other side of the tracks (thank you, God!) Joeys still calls us back. Even at a class reunion we had a Joeys run. This place deserves a zero!!! We ended up walking out before we even ordered. Walked in there was 2 employees & a couple with their child. The rest of the place was entirely empty. There was 1 clean both, well one that didn't have a bunch of napkins or water cups. When we got our table I went to the restroom... came out & still no help... I go to the counter looking for menus (I still haven't sat down) & 2 people standing around doing absolutely nothing. I get told to grab one of the papers to take to my table ‍ take the menu to the table & my husband says they need to wipe down the tables going to tell them we need a rag. Well one was playing with cheese & one was playing on their phone. Lazy girl has my husband the rag for him to go wipe down his own table. I would not trust the food in this place these employees are absolutely lazy and it was disgusting to see a restaurant dirty like that with no one there. I have been going here for as long as I can remember. The pizza you will either love it, or hate it! Most people I know love it. I need to warn you it is one of the dives, but they know what they are doing! The pepperoni comes out with this grease on top of it, and the crust is just perfect crunch. They have a daily special they run starting at the first of every Month that goes along with the alphabet. So if your name starts with the letter A, and it is the 1st... I hope you get the point. They have the arcade style video games to play while you wait for your pizza. They used to have one of the claw machines that had candy really cheap, and my kids loved it. But that was when my boys were in middle school. They are now out of the house age. I miss that machine, and I am pretty sure the boys do as well. They still go and eat there not just with me, but with their friends....continuing traditions. The salads are usually pretty big, they are decent but not my favorite because I like different greens, and more of a variety than what they use. I am a salad snob. Not saying what they use is bad, they use the product they have for the pizza. And iceberg lettuce. I just prefer a different type of salad. I am sure others will enjoy them because they use good stuff here. The staff is usually really nice, and hard working. They get really slammed with phone calls, for those to go orders. The pizza my boys like is the truck drivers...don't quote me on the name. I don't like Hawaiian pizza at many places, I will usually get depending on how many people we have with us a large pepperoni, and a small Hawaiian. I take the left overs home, and have them for lunch and reheat in the oven on my pizza pan. If there is ever a day I see Joey's pizza closed down, I will be sad. So many memories, and I just love their pizza! I almost forgot to mention that they lightly sauce their pizza, which I like. I have gotten pizza here three times or so. The first time it was good, the other times it was meh. My fiance and I wanted to grab some easy takeout on our way home so I called Joey's. Like at least two other times, when I called the phone just disconnected. I tried several times. Here I am thinking, it's valentines day, one of the biggest eating out holidays of the year. If you like spicy pepperoni this is the place for you! Their pepperoni is my absolute favorite. Their crust is very crispy and flavorful. Joey's Pizza is one of the worst pizza places around. Their cardboard, flavorless pizza is light on the toppings and their indifferent staff provides some of the worst service you can find anywhere in the area. Now, you might be asking, if it's so bad, why'd I go there enough times to form an opinion? Here's the thing. Pizza is like sex: When it's good, it's great...and when it's bad, it's still pretty good. Joey's shitty pizza might give you a gut ache, but it's still pizza. I've been there a few times with friends, in a weak moment. The "initial day" thing is the kind of ripoff you normally experience only from a government agency. The initial applies only to your last name...it's only good on certain pizzas...until 9:00...and they put your order last, after everyone who pays full price. At least, that's what my friends tell me. I wouldn't choose Joey's Pizza if it were free, as it's worth paying for better pie. Even when you pay full price, they treat you like shit. One night a friend and I dropped in a little before 10:25 to get a pizza, and they told us, we're closed - no apology, just we're closed. When I told them the sign on the door said 11:00, the guy shrugged and said, hey, I said we're closed, get the fuck out. I called the next day to complain and the manager said hey, sorry about that, but sometimes we close early when it's slow. Nice customer service, huh? Atmosphere? Dream on. This place is on South A in Springfield, halfway between the area where the hookers and drug dealers hang out and the area where the porn shop and strip joints are. It's a dive. Don't leave anything you value in the car while you eat here; some tweeker will bust into your car to steal anything that can help him score his next $20 bag. There are a dozen places in Eugene that have better pizza and even a few in Springfield, but if you are a real cheapskate, you might like Joey's Pizza. On the other hand, if you're a real cheapskate, someplace like Pizza Pipeline, Domino's, Papa John's, or Pizza Hut has a better deal on any given night, and Joey's "quality" is in the same class as all these places. My boss has been raving about this pizza and could not wait for me to try it. So after a long day of driving (we came down from Portland) and a full day of appointments, we stopped in together and I was not disappointed! The pizza was amazing. We didn't get too fancy and simply ordered a pepperoni and black olive...but it was one of the best pizzas I have ever had. Super cheesy and perfectly baked. I know that a lot of people have talked about their look and how it needs to be updated, and while I do agree to some degree, I also like that they have remained a traditional family style pizzaria. I couldn't wait to try Joey's Pizza. I had been coming down to Eugene for years wanting good pizza. I never had any... My friends then decided that I had never had Joey's Pizza. They were right! I was now back in Eugene with one goal, try Joey's! I was so excited! We pulled up to a shanty in the dark, which isn't a problem as I'll go anywhere. We went inside to a dirty, strip club like environment to pick up our previously ordered pizzas. They were ready and we were back in the car headed home. 15 minutes later I opened the boxes to see the simplicity that is Joey's. It looked like a frozen pizza, but with fewer toppings. The pepperoni was about nickel-sized and shriveled and warped. Okay, maybe it tastes good. It doesn't. It tasted like like processed, dry cheese on cardboard. The toppings were sparse and of low quality. I think the cheese may have been melted string cheese and a grocery store knock-off american sliced velveeta imposter. It was terrible. I realize now that either Eugene has a severe lack of good pizza, or my friends have no idea what good pizza is.... Round table is 3.7 miles away.... please, please go there instead. I would have never tried joey's again from my disappointing first time, but my wife brought some pizza home from her work. I have to admit, they did much better this time. I had the Hawaiian pizza and it was not greasy at all this time to my pleasant surprise. I actually enjoyed it and it clearly passed the little Cesar's test, it was much better this go around! This place is not fancy - However,the prices are good at the 'Initial Day' deal is great! The general prices were low-average for pizza parlours that aren't cheap deliveries. I've only been once - The pizza we ordered was half pepperoni and half canadian bacon. The crust was done the way I like it - crispy and not too thin or thick. There was light sauce, TONS of cheese and toppings... I never see pizza like this anymore - like I'd ordered 2x toppings. I'd go back - I liked it better than Papa's pepperoni pizza. Their pizza has been a family favorite for probably as long as that old restaurant has been there. I took off one star (begrugendly) because it is old and run down looking on the inside. We never had a problem with the food, cold beers, or fun little pizza salads. The beer driver special pizza is a dream come true, so many toppings it can get greasy, the crust is thin and crispy, lots of cheese, and little sauce. They have ran out of dough before on busy nights, be warned.... I love the vinatage games and the food, if you want a fancy place. We went there and ordered two large pizzas for takeout. They gave us a pager and We sat there. And sat there. And sat there waiting. After 30 min I finally went up and asked where or pizzas were. They were sitting on top of the oven for the past 15 minutes in clear view of the guy who took our order and the guy who cooked them. When he gave me the pizzas, now cold, he yelled over at the cook about it saying, "Why didn't you alert the pager for this order?". The cooks response?.., "Well at least I boxed them!" As though doing half I his job was acceptable. Wow. Never going there again. How much were our TWO large pizzas? Over $50. Left me shaking my head. I won't pay that much for crappy service and sub par food ever again. Whoever owns that place should fire the cook. Other people who came in after us also sat there for over 30 minutes. To the owner: your staff is going to kill your business. My husbands sister who recommended the place to us since we moved back to Springfield from the east coast tries the pizza we brought home. She said, "This is horrible, it used to be the best pizza place around. This pizza sucks and you really had to wait 30 min to get cold nasty pizza? Joey's is one of the worst pizza's I have ever had. I couldn't ignore the low quality ingredients and the disgusting taste. The cheese was probably the worst part about it. It made the pizza smell bad. I don't know where they get their cheese, but I don't even know where to find cheese that bad. I've never eaten a pizza where I wanted to take off the meat. The green peppers, olives and mushrooms were gross; usually these are the only bearable things on a bad pizza. There was hardly any sauce except for mild traces of low quality redness. The crust seemed fake, greasy, and cardboard-like. I am never getting pizza there again. I would rather go to Round Table or Track Town because it is a lesser evil. Next time I will drive to Eugene and get real Italian pizza. I am never putting Joey's in my stomach again. It made me feel sick. On a different note, people are right about the employees hating their jobs. They have no phone skills, no people skills, and apparently no pizza skills.
