We got Char Koay Teow, Mamak Mee Goreng, Ayam Goreng, Green Beans with Garlic Sauce, Special Curry Rice, Nasi Goreng, and Chicken Satay. To get a 5/5... have the soy sauce separated from the chicken... it overpowered the chicken for my taste. We were able to grab a table for 2 around 8pm, which is great given how busy this place usually is. We ordered the following: Chicken Skewers: Decently grilled with a the meat juicy and tender meat. The nice peanut sauce hit the spot! Seafood laksa: Full of deep rich flavours, this also really hit the spot especially on a cold and rainy night. The mix noodles had a nice chew and there were lots of tofu, seafood, and a full boiled egg (cut in half). Definitely a solid bowl of laksa! Fried Noodles: A great comfort dish. The noodles were springy and well-seasoned, with plenty of toppings mixed in. Not greasy, which I really appreciated, and the portion was generous. Roti: Comes with a thin curry sauce and served with sugar on the side. The roti is super buttery, soft, and flakey. One of the best roti's in the city! It is difficult to find a good satay here in Metro Vancouver that the meat itself is flavorful with good meat texture, and the satay sauce is balanced. Their CHAR KOAY TEOW is good too - it is chewy and not greasy. It's my first time trying the BBQ ribs. The meat is tender and so well seasoned. I'll order the dish again. This is my go-to spot for Malaysian food whenever I'm in Richmond! The food is always a solid 5 stars -- flavorful, authentic, and consistently delicious. Service is quick, and the staff are friendly. Food I ordered Satay (chicken) - so tender and juicy. I think they are the only one that cameralized the meat so that there is a sweet flavor to it Nyonya Pie Tee- my first time order this one. I went here on a Thursday for lunch and it was fairly packed, so I recommend calling ahead for reservations which we did. We got the regular roti canai, nasi goreng ayam, and sambal fish. We also got the teh tarik because it's not a complete Malaysian dining experience without it. Roti canai is pretty solid - somewhat buttery, soft, and pairs well with the curry. There's sugar on the side but honestly just the curry itself is already hearty enough. Nasi goreng ayam is very flavorful and the fried chicken is decently flavorful and juicy. It's a fairly huge portion, enough for 2 people to share. We got medium spicy which has a nice kick. Sambal fish was more of a sweet and sour fish with a bit of spice kick. The peanut sauce isn't exactly like I remember in Malaysia, but its decent. I will get these every time. Laksa (5): I love laksa and this did not disappoint. I generally opt for the thicker broth so lean towards their curry offering but both are outstanding. Roti (5): Fluffy and crispy. Goes with anything. Another must to add to any dish. Green beans (5): gotta get those veggies in. These weren't like normal veggies though, they were like a crispy treat! They flash fry these or something that makes them delicious! Ribs (5): Super tender. Sweet and savory. These might be another staple. Nasi Goreng (4): Comes out piping hot right off the wok. Almost like what I remember in Malaysia. Followed by beef satay, which came with 4 skewers but we were super hungry and couldn't wait. This was my first time trying the nyonya pie tee and the veggies were crispy and had a nice bite. I previously tried the food court stall in Aberdeen Centre and was excited to try this location in Richmond. Quite a busy location however service was very quick. Ordered the char kway teow, beef rendang and the roti canai. The char kway teow was good! It had the classic "wok hey flavour", although the noodles were a bit too soft. The beef rendang was similar to what I had in Aberdeen, extremely soft and tender beef chunks with aromatic, creamy, and coconut-y curry sauce. Such an amazing pairing and honestly my favourite dish here. Pairing the rendang with the crispy, flaky and buttery roti canai was a heavenly combination that I would recommend everyone to try. Had 6:30 reservations for eight on a Tuesday evening. We were seated right away in their smaller room near the front entrance. Servers were pleasant and helpful. We entered our order in the iPad and asked our server if they thought we ordered the right amount for the eight of us. We were pleasantly surprised by her honesty when she went through each item and suggested adjustments like reduce the beans by one order, increase the roti, and swapping out one of the chickens for a beef, etc. Everything we tried was flavorful and delicious. The fried chicken wings were perfectly seasoned and wonderfully crunchy and crispy. The bbq pork ribs were amazing, fall off the bone, and finger-licking good. The beef rendang was the star of the meal. I liked how the chicken satay were cooked but found the peanut sauce lacking flavour. And the same with the roti...the roti's were fluffy and tasty but the curry sauce was watery and lacked flavour. The beef rendang was quite tender and I really enjoyed it with the sauce over rice. This charade was all done to get us to believe his "kindness". Wouldn't it be easier to cull some bad people in our face? Wouldn't that create instant believers? Anyways, I still have many questions... But we are here for the food. Let's forget the name. Ordered their high ticket items. The Rendang curry beef, Hainan Chicken, Special Ribs, and roti's. The restaurant is a lively place and the tables are a little cramped together. However, it was clean and cozy. The food was tasty and full of flavour. We were able to get some dishes mild as one of our friends can't take spice. We ordered off an iPad where we selected the dishes we wanted. We got the chicken satay (4pcs) and beef satay (4pcs), roti canai, Asam Laksa, Kari chicken, Mamak Mee Goreng and coconut rice. We had so much food on the table and I was so concerned about eating that I forgot to take more pictures! The food is consistent and delicious whether you go to the Richmond or Vancouver location. We always enjoy the food here. The price was quite reasonable. All the above mentioned came to $118.18 (including tax). I love all of their flavors, it's rich and tasty, especially the Hainanese chicken. The spicy curry rice with pork and chicken is pretty heavy, definitely a dish to share with others. The Kari laksa is my favorite, it comes with a lot of ingredients, and the laksa broth is bold and flavorful. If you are coming for dinner, please make sure to make a reservation. We didn't make any reso ahead of time, thinking that it was a Monday night and not busy. We were completely wrong! We waited 30 minute for a table. It's our fault and learnt our lesson. At first glance, it seemed like a tiny place but there were actually lots of indoor seating and was fully packed on friday around 8pm. My friend and I got seated quickly and ordered on a tablet. We got the kari laksa and hainan chicken and both were pretty good. The curry in the laksa was definitely spicy but not too overpowering, and I really enjoyed all the ingredients inside like beef, fish cake, tofu, shrimp, egg and green beans. We're always delighted to have a meal at John 3:16 Malaysian Delights ! There are two locations for this restaurant. This time we went to the Richmond location. It had been years since I last visited the Richmond branch. They've moved to a different location in Richmond; it's much more spacious than the previous spot that they were in. On the table: Roti Canai Kari Chicken Char Kuey Teow Rojak Sambal Okra, Green Beans & Eggplant Sambal Fish Beef Rendang Cendol Everything was nicely done except for the Cendol. The ice in the Cendol seemed to be crushed ice which meant that we ended up with bigger chunks of ice in our mouth than we'd have liked. This dessert would have been much better if the ice had been finely shaved instead of the crushed ice that we got. We also found the presentation to be a bit odd. Usually, this dessert would be served in a bowl. This Cendol was served to us in a tall, glass mug...the kind you'd expect to see if you walked into an A&W restaurant. The usual bowl would have been much preferred as the mug made it difficult for us to mix up the ingredients. Came here at 5:30 on a weeknight and was seated right away. Service is quick and waitress come often to check and pick up empty dishes. This place was packed at 6:00. What a good business! And why not? Dishes were very good. *Roti Canai was chewy. Served with curry sauce and sugar, a first for me. I always get their Roti Canai, as it's fluffy, flakey and fried to perfection. Their curries are honestly a bit too sweet for my taste, but they're still tasty. The wait for a table can get quite long (45+ minutes) if you're not there before opening, so a lot of people order takeout online. Lots of parking spots on the back of the building. Was a little disappointed in the laksa as the broth wasn't as flavorful and the noodles overcooked. The fried fish was delicious and perfectly crisp. Very busy restaurant so service was a little slow. read more
