As an automotive professional, it's frustrating to see customers misled by poor technical explanations from a dealership that should know better. We recently had a customer come to us extremely upset after visiting this dealership, and for good reason -- he was given blatantly incorrect and misleading information about a transmission we installed. The vehicle was fitted with a Jasper remanufactured transmission, which includes a new torque converter as part of the unit. The dealership told the customer the torque converter had not been replaced. This claim is false and also impossible to verify without removing the transmission -- something they did not do. They also told the customer the transmission contained the "wrong fluid." Again, this is an unsubstantiated claim. Fluid type cannot be identified without taking a sample and having it tested, which was not performed. The transmission was filled with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic LV HP, exactly as required by Jasper. To add to the misinformation, the dealership pointed out a zip-tied shifter cable as if it were related to the transmission install. The vehicle arrived in that condition, and this is a very common, well-documented issue on these Chevrolet trucks. The manufacturer has since updated the part. Replacing the shifter cable is a separate repair, requiring additional labor and cost (typically around $500), which the customer had already declined due to budget limitations. Providing customers with technically inaccurate information -- especially information that cannot be verified without disassembly -- is irresponsible and creates unnecessary confusion and stress. We stand fully behind our work, which was completed to Jasper's exact specifications. Based on this experience, I would strongly caution others to question the accuracy of technical explanations given here. read more

I am a grown woman and this is the first time I've ever walked into a dealership by myself to purchase a vehicle. I was scared because I don't know how to negotiate. It gives me a lot of anxiety. The first question I asked was "do I have to negotiate because I'm scared" and I was blessed enough to be working with Linda Kelly, who said we don't negotiate because our prices are better than blue book. I'll start from the beginning, I was dying to get myself a stingray Corvette and I called a lot of dealerships and some told me they had one and they made it really difficult to get in but not Linda. She told me that she would have it ready for me to test drive as soon as I get there and when we arrive she was super kind super helpful and allowed me to take it for a spin. I came back in knowing that I wanted the car. I was really anxious. I wanted to make sure I was making the right choice. She provided me with every single document that I could ever need regarding the purchase price inspection. Hi history of the vehicle and just comforted me during the entire process, because it was not a cheap by, and I kinda needed my hand, held for a little bit because it was my first vehicle that I purchased all by myself. The manager was also an amazing man who really helped me feel more comfortable about my purchase and explain to him that I've been ripped off before and I wasn't even alone when it happened. He just had so much compassion for that and I didn't have to negotiate a single penny because it was already under market price. I have family in the Detroit area who told me Bowman had a good reputation, so I moved forward with cautious optimism. To start with the positives: the car was priced very competitively. After submitting an online inquiry, I was contacted by Linda within an hour. She provided a few additional details and an estimate for enclosed shipping to Colorado. The vehicle itself, a nearly new car 2024 with just 350 miles, was accurately represented in the photos, and a couple of short videos confirmed the condition. I'm extremely happy with the car. Next, the deal moved to Rhonda in finance, who was excellent. She had her part of the process locked down and professional. The paperwork was handled smoothly and sent out without any issue. That part was seamless. Now, where things got interesting: after the initial contact, communication slowed to a crawl. Text messages often went unanswered or contained little useful information. The online chat? Clearly run by AI or a third-party service, conversations felt like going in circles, much like being bounced between call centers back in the day. It took nearly two weeks to finalize the deal, which felt unnecessarily drawn out. I requested a more detailed vehicle review from someone with real product knowledge, a perfectly reasonable ask for an out-of-state buyer but that never happened. There was very little direct interaction with a manager. At one point, I asked (through Linda) if they'd consider any small concession on the deal. The response? A flat "No--we don't do business that way." Not exactly a warm and customer-friendly tone. After the deal was finally signed, I received a quick call from a manager, but it was mostly about oil changes and transmission service and that was the extent of the personal touch. Then came the shipping process. I was notified that the car had been picked up, so naturally, I expected some form of tracking or documentation. Instead, after several rounds of vague text messages, I was simply given the driver's phone number. No proactive updates, just "here's the driver's number, good luck." This was my first time buying a car entirely online. Maybe this is "normal", but if so, it's a disappointing one. Compared to prior in-person dealership experiences, this process felt disorganized, impersonal, and at times indifferent. Bowman Chevy may excel with local customers, but for out-of-state buyers, they need to significantly improve their communication, responsiveness, and overall customer care. Had the dreaded Service High Voltage System error a few weeks back on my 2014 Volt. Took it over to Bowman Chevrolet in Clarkston Michigan and worked with Aimee Sloas (assistant service manager). Car was throwing P0AA6, P1FFF and P1E00. This is normally fixed via the standard BECM/HPCM2 update. Was told it would be over $1100 to refresh the modules needed, and they identified 6 modules in total they said needed to be reflashed. I'm very familiar with this vehicle, and the fixes needed to certain issues that can arise, and I told them that was too much and the extra modules were not part of the standard fix for this issue. They said it would then be $522 to just do the BECM/HPCM2 fix. I told them this was still overpriced, as most dealerships charge $200-300 (I confirmed with numerous sources this was the case). They said that was the price, take it or leave it. And if I left it, I would be on the hook for $145 diagnostic fee (and no fix done). I argued this, saying they knew they were overcharging, but they refused to give me the car until I paid it in full, and would not consider any reduction of this fee. Finally paid it, and took the car home. Took the vehicle to another local Chevrolet dealership, based on a recommendation. The service manager there agreed they were trying to overcharge me, and told me he could do the BECM/HPCM2 for under $300. While it was there, he also had him do an oil change, flushed the battery coolant system completely, and flashed a couple other modules. All for $930 out the door. Compared to Bowman who wanted $1100 just for flashing modules where the computer does the work. I'd highly recommend NOT DOING BUSINESS with Bowman or their service department, if this is the way they conduct business. KNOWINGLY TRYING TO OVERCHARGE, stealing your money via a diagnosis fee when you refuse to pay their overinflated prices, and pathetic customer service. They lost a potential future customer, and my family member who was planning to go in there and order a new truck is now going to a different dealership. I'm glad they lost out on a sale due to their overcharging tactics. I hope it was worth the $145 they made off me and I hope others reconsider taking their vehicle there for service as well. Needed an oil change and some other service to my car so I decided to make an appointment on Bowmans web site. Added all the information they requested at 9:00 a.m. this morning and was given a reply they would call me back on the phone number I gave them to set up the appointment. It is now 6:50 p.m. and I've not heard from anyone. I wouldn't think setting up an appointment for an oil change wouldn't take this long. Perhaps they don't need the business. I've purchased 2 new cars from them and leased a third new car. Was ready to drive home my new Chevy Blazer EV, but as soon as my husband left, they tried to get me to change the lease terms. I signed all paper documents after reading them carefully, only the invoice was not on paper. They wouldn't let me get close enough to the computer screen to see what I was signing, so I didn't sign it. I emailed the sales manager hoping that he would make it right, but he never responded. One of the worst experiences with a car dealer in all of my life. The repairs made to my vehicle were twice as expensive as other dealerships in the area. On top of that, the original problem returned in under 100 miles. When the vehicle was brought back because they failed to fix the problem, they wanted even more money. This dealership had really great reviews on Google, so off I went. Tom in used sales handled my entire purchase, from my initial phone call all the way through. I've dealt with car dealerships before and I expected the same old wishy-washy, I'll get back to you if I think I'm going to be making $$$ off of you attitude. This was completely NOT my experience with Tom. I called to ask about the vehicle and told him I'd be in Thursday. We arranged a time and he didn't pester me about it for the two days between (like I've experienced in the past). I went to take it for a test drive, it drove like a dream, and we went over the pricing. The car was a steal at $400 under the posted price on their website and at KBB value. I was given a fair trade in amount for my 2010 Fusion ($6,500 - on the higher end of estimates I had received). We went in late, so Tom had to call me the next day with the loan information. He called me the next day before noon, complete with everything I needed to know. I had chosen a credit union over the financing the dealership offered simply because of the interest rate and received nothing but a "no problem" in response to that decision. Tom was quick to send me the buyer report and fax it over to my credit union...and communicate with the both of us all afternoon long as I got everything in order. I called Tom four times and he either picked right up or called me back immediately. My credit union had no issues communicating with him and my banker even commented on his responsiveness. All in all, I had a great experience here, solely because of Tom. He was professional, extremely nice, and did not talk to me as if I was an uneducated bag of money, like so many do when women stroll through the door of a dealership. I would have given 5 stars, but when we test drove the car, it was pretty dirty (dog hair in the backseat, coffee spilt on the console, little random black dots all over the radio panel, dirty dashboard). I asked Tom to have it cleaned and he sent it across the street to the new car dealership (where I picked it up, so I know he actually sent it)...and it had been vaccummed...and that was it. The dash was filthy, coffee stains and little black dots still intact. I detailed it myself when I got home and it all came off fairly easy, but I mean, after I pay $15,000 for a car, I expect a GREAT professional detail. read more

To start, I'm very satisfied with the car I bought! A used Honda. I had it inspected before I purchased it, but that didn't stop them with getting away with a few things.... The salesman goes "Oh, don't mind the washer fluid light! It's just out of fluid!" I fully expected them to fill it up, and they did but the light didn't go off. It has a broken fill level sensor that I plan on simply disconnecting because I can tell when it's low without a dash light. During the inspection, it needed several fluid changes (Which I will be performing myself). It needed new front brakes (which when confronted, I was told 'they were inspected and they were fine'). OK no big deal, I'll spend an extra $200 on top of the 15k I already spent on the car. Whoopie. This really took the cake, though....I finally end up buying the car and they don't have license plate screws so the guy goes "Oh you'll be fine, just drive it over to the Honda dealership and ask them for screws". Since I felt bad about doing this, I ripped off their license plate cover and put the Honda one on my car instead! #Karma EDIT: They sent me a box of cookies and they were delicious.
