DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS "ORGANIZATION" I contracted John to fix a leaky roof. After being pushed off of scheduling for weeks, we were charged $3000. I made multiple requests upon the work being " completed"to provide pictures of their work and a basic phone call from John to explain what work was done since our home is a row home with limited roof access. I was told by his secretary that John's wife had some health issues and I would be contacted. I reached out multiple times for follow up and evidence of work. Week after week. Initially, they were responsive and it was easy to make an appointment for a free estimate. They arrived a bit more than 2 hours late from the agreed upon time, and John himself was not on site (two of his workers were). I spoke with John briefly by phone after their inspection, and he started to go over some of the issues with my roof. I asked him to email me with an estimate for the work. He agreed, but never emailed me or contacted me with the estimate. I called and emailed numerous times in the intervening weeks to try to procure the estimate, but they never responded. Eventually, Barbara called and asked when I would be scheduling the inspection. I explained that I'd already received an inspection and was awaiting an estimate. She mentioned something about John being out of town (this seems to be a theme if you read other Yelp reviews), and said they'd get me the estimate that night/next day. Weeks have gone by and I have not received an estimate, or any response from John after texting and calling directly. read more

John also gave a good assessment of the state of my roof generally and provided advice on how to maintain it. His crew were professional and respectful, and I would happily use them again. We had John do some roof repairs on our 7-story condo building, and the experience was great from start to finish! John spent a lot of time with me over the course of two estimates explaining what he would do, and also why it would be done, which I really appreciated. He didn't recommend any add-on work that was unnecessary, but did give us an idea of what to expect in future years. After waking up at 4am on a Monday to water dripping on me from the ceiling after remnants of hurricane Isasias beat up my roof , I went to yelp looking for a roofer. John was the first to respond and made time the following day to inspect/assess my roof. His team immediately found the issue and squeezed me in a few days later ahead of a full week of forecasted rain. While it didn't rain as much as forecasted the repairs got the job done and at a good price. John has been in the roofing game for more than a day, and probably since before I was born, and his expertise shows. Knowledgeable, skilled, and fair, John Boyd and team is a good choice. read more

John's Home Improvement Quality of Work: Grade A- The work was completed next day on schedule. Work looks good. Reasonable Price: Grade B: I felt he was expensive, however, he had his men do extra work for me, so the value of the work performed was at market-cost or slight discount. (Coupons were used and the cost of the work was still pricey) Example: I was charged $8 per foot for material that retails for $22 per 10-feet- over a 300% mark up. Communication after Payment: Grade F: I have not gotten the pics of my roof or an invoice for addendum service performed. I requested a invoice/receipt for the additional service that wasn't captured on the original contract, so that I could submit the additional costs to my insurance company. Over a week later, and, he has been MIA with my paperwork and roofing pictures of the documents damage and repairs made to the roof. My phone calls and emails have not been returned. Warnings: If you used this company, make sure 1) you get competing estimates on the project and get the pricing itemize for material costs and labor costs, if you can. 2) Make sure you know exactly the size of your roofing repair project and what your budget is. Stick to what you need because Mr. John will try to up sale additional services that you may not need. FINALLY: Make sure you read the back of your contract for the small print and limited warranty provisions. If you are workings with an insurance company, try to have them price out his quote against their metrics before you sign his service contract. If you proceed with Mr. John as your contractor, MAKE SURE you have all the pictures and/or receipts and paperwork you need and due to you before you make your payment balance. He is a nice man, but a smoother sales man... proverbially speaking: he will try to sell you a Porsche or a Range Rover when your budget is a GM,Ford, Honda,or Toyota. read more
