The building is very secure, which was incredible, and the view out of our windows was all greenery from the mature trees outside. Our room was renovated but kept the vintage embiance of this historical mansion. Enjoying a glass of wine in the parlor after a long day was a very nice addition to the stay. We will definitely stay here again when we are in the area.

We stayed in the Happiness Loft, which was cute and unique. The pictures do note that it's not ideal for tall guests, and that's true -- the ceilings are quite low, but it worked fine for us. The highlight of our stay was definitely the spa. I had one of the best massages of my life, and the couples massage experience was wonderful. That said, it was on the pricey side, as was the room rate, though the charm of the property sets it apart from many other Sacramento options we looked at. Breakfast was good, but at $30 per person, it didn't feel like the best value compared to other places we've stayed. The biggest downside for us was the location -- while the hotel itself is lovely, the surrounding neighborhood didn't feel like a place where we could walk around and explore, so we found ourselves driving elsewhere for dinner and activities. Parking was also limited. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and are glad we experienced it. The service, cleanliness, and spa treatments are excellent, but for the price point, I'd likely explore other options next time. For us, this felt like a solid three-star experience.

The server told us they operate out of a food truck. So the menu is limited. But what they make is really good! We ordered the lemonade, chicken and waffles, huevos rancheros divorciados, and the strawberry champagne sherbet. Service was very prompt! The actual menu in-person had a couple items that aren't on the sample menu including a couple more dessert options like fig ice cream. We really liked everything we tried! The portions were pretty good. If coming here for food I'd recommend getting here early since food trucks have limited capacity. You're welcome to stroll around the property both the flower farm and the inn side before or after your meal. The parking situation is a gravel lot. So it may not be the most handicap accessible place. We had a lot of fun stopping by Park Winters. They were setting up for a wedding so the inn side would have been closed for the event starting at 1pm. The check also came with a small map of the property for you to keep. This was very helpful in exploring the property. The only caveat is this is the countryside. Wear long pants or be prepared with insect repellent! Even at 10am in the summer my legs were bitten by mosquitoes. (Type O blood. Mosquito magnet here.) I'd like if they burned some citronella candles to help with mosquitoes. The rest of the dining venue was so thoughtfully designed including timed misters (like at theme parks) to help keep the area cool. Definitely check it out if you're curious or in the area.

They comped the meal, and we didn't ask for it; we only wanted to split the check, which was a policy that was never discussed, but their system could do it. So they decided to comp the check, given the many issues. Then the manager calls me after we leave, leaves a message, and says, very passively aggressive, "We comped your meal, but you did not leave the server a tip." Servers live off tips. But don't worry, we took care of her tip. Have a good day." Umm, excuse me? I was a server for over 7 years. First of all, I wouldn't expect a tip after the establishment that failed me by not ensuring they had adequate kitchen supplies to keep a Mother's Day up and running. Additionally, I would have added more staff to the day, which would of course be very busy. And lastly, how are we tipped when you comped the bill and walked away, and nobody had cash? We did not ask for the bill to be comped. So for future reference, dear John I don't recommend calling your customers and bullying them over voicemail. You're the problem, not us.

He went inside as I waited in the car to check us in. When he came out to get me my first thought was okay this is different. Sterling Hotel by Wedgewood Events is a charming escape right in the center of Downtown Sacramento's action. The magnificent dome, stained-glass entry, and historically unique hotel is pretty well kept for its age. My favorite part of the room was the tub. The bed was comfortable and quiet, yay!! Huge and although the view from the window wasn't great I could see my car. Downtown Sac is known for its night life which we don't care for but it's not the safest place either. Parking was in the street and it's not free from 8am-10pm. There is a nearby garage but it's cheaper to park on the street. The short time I was there I didn't see any workers. But the note in our room did give us instructions if we needed further assistance. We aren't needy and don't like to be bothered so it was fine, just different. Breakfast were just to go bars and snacks, water bottles, and juices. But all in all clean hotel and quiet which makes me very happy.

When we arrived, however, we were told the housekeeper had called in sick. Not only were we unable to check in early, but we actually had to leave the wedding to come back and check in an hour and a half after the normal check-in time. The room appeared clean at first, but I woke up with four bites around my ankle from some sort of bug. The thermostat gave us a warning that the air quality was poor. When I got up to take a shower, I noticed the spa tub was severely cracked, and the shower itself was difficult to turn on. While showering and avoiding cracks, I also noticed what I sincerely hope was ketchup on three different tiles. I keep telling myself it was not blood. The hotel was convenient because of its proximity to the wedding, but having to leave the wedding to finally check in and claim our bags was incredibly frustrating, especially after I had called ahead specifically to avoid this situation. The front desk person was extremely apologetic, which I appreciated, but overall, they need to do better especially when they know in advance that a wedding party will be staying at the hotel. I am disappointed I wasted by OneKey credit on this room.

From the moment I walked in, I loved the setup. The crisp white and gray towels were displayed so beautifully, and I especially appreciated the black makeup towel labeled "Makeup" with makeup wipes placed right on top. It's the little details like that that really make a difference. I also loved the refrigerator. It wasn't just a basic mini fridge, it had built-in sections to neatly hold water bottles, juice, and other drinks, which made it feel so organized and well-designed. It was such a thoughtful touch that I really appreciated. The lounge area in the middle of the hotel was so cute! It had a cozy seating area and a beautiful little kitchen space that made the whole hotel feel warm and inviting. Overall, this was an amazing experience from start to finish. The hotel was clean, stylish, and full of thoughtful details that made my stay even better. When I say this room was a 10 out of 10, I truly mean it. I will definitely be staying here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful, comfortable hotel.

It's probably one of the better places to live in California away from the coast. N Street, where the hotel is located, has to be one of Sacramento's most charming streets. I took long walks in the early morning. West of the hotel on N Street, there are some fantastic Streamline Moderne government buildings, as well as some snazzy old apartment buildings. The capitol looks typical from the outside, but the inside is worthy of a wander. It's about a thirty-minute jaunt to the river from the hotel. East of the hotel is a mostly residential neighborhood with stately Victorians and a neat home cinema. On a Saturday morning, a few blocks from the hotel, I encountered the giant Midtown Farmer's Market, which covered a number of blocks. I can't think of anything to say about the hotel, but I would gladly stay there again.

As a woman traveling by myself, my safety and comfort are extremely important to me, so I made the decision to cancel the reservation and look for another hotel. What was most disappointing was how this situation was handled. I reached out hoping the hotel might be willing to work with me in some way--whether that meant accommodating my concerns, allowing me to stay under different circumstances, or simply trying to find a reasonable solution so I wouldn't lose the money I had already paid. Instead, I felt completely dismissed. My experience with Vee the General Manager, was especially upsetting. I found the interaction to be rude, insulting, and completely lacking in professionalism or basic customer service. A General Manager should be someone who understands that situations like this require empathy, patience, and an effort to find a solution--not someone who makes a customer feel worse for raising legitimate concerns. Unfortunately, this experience has affected not only my opinion of Governor's Inn, but also my trust in Expedia. I still have a couple of other reservations booked through Expedia that I will honor, but after those are completed, I will no longer be giving Expedia my business. I will also never book or recommend Governor's Inn again. Sometimes the smallest effort to accommodate a customer can make a huge difference. Unfortunately, I did not receive that effort here. Instead, I left feeling disrespected and disappointed. I am sharing this review because I believe other travelers--especially anyone traveling alone--deserve to know about my experience before making a reservation. Governor's Inn and Expedia have permanently lost my business. They don't deserve my time or business at all.
