I have been looking for a hotel like this in Sacramento for a long time and I'm just so happy this exists. The XXX suite is where it's at. During CoVid-19 the office has distanced check in, which is awesome. I don't think the pool was available for obvious reasons, but when it is, I'm coming back because it's cute and clean and looks fun to chill in. The whole vibe is laid back, it feels like an adults only boutique hotel, but I think all ages are acceptable. The rooms are so cute, love the decorative touches. The bed was the most comfortable ever. It was a humongous California King, nice and firm, I want to steal the bed. I did not want to leave. I'm so happy I know about this sweet place in my hometown now! Always going to stay here. Check in is 3pm, and check out is 11am, you do have the grace of late checkout, you just have to call, and after the 1st hour I think it is $25 per hour after. They have a nice smoking section outside behind the shrub wall, which is really great, and doesn't bother other non-smoking guests. I adore this place and I'll be coming back. read more

First and foremost, it's not a hotel. It's a motel. A motel where each room is assigned a letter in the alphabet, yet the rooms are not in alphabetical order. Once you find your room in the jumbled alphabet (after having to call and get the gate code, something they should've instead emailed you ahead of your arrival), you'll be greeted by a room with holey sheets, rusted metal fixtures, and a smell of cleaning solution that seems to say "we tried." This is far too many words to say: the room felt dirty. No joke, I personally wiped off what appeared to be blood from the bathroom door frame. Asking management to come address the dirtiness is pointless. I ran into the manager the morning after my first night and asked him if housekeeping could come by my room. He seemed to say yes, but when I came back hours later, it was clear that nobody came. If neighboring guests were to complain about the poor conditions, you'd hear all of it. There's absolutely no sound proofing in the complex, and the front door to the rooms aren't properly fit to the frames. I slept with my airpods in, both to block out the sound and to soothe my nerves. Outside it sounded like someone was testing their car engine at 2 in the morning. I mind my business, so I didn't look outside. I feel bad writing this negative review because The Greens is very clearly run by a small family and I've personally been on the other side of that. The photos online are misleading. My room was dirty, the AC was stuck at 80 and wouldn't cool, the sheets were stained, and there were bugs in the bathroom. Outside felt unsafe with loud groups around 1 or 2 a.m. I tried calling to fix things, but got ignored, so I went in person. Staff were rude and refused a refund even though I didn't stay. Let me start with the positives. The family running the hotel are extremely accommodating and friendly and they are reachable at most of hours of the day and night. However, it was uncomfortable the entire stay. People were screaming outside our door, fighting and using tools in the middle of the night and until sunrise. The door does not shut properly and has a gap that you can see through and hear everything outside like it's in the same room as you. This also allowed for small bugs to fly in. Despite being in a gated area, the people you are gated in with will make you question whether the outside world is locked out, or you're locked in. Outside the gate, we heard gunshots, fireworks, more fighting and sirens constantly. Overall, If you are coming here planning on sleeping, good luck. I didn't sleep until 6:00 am when everything outside seemed to just stop. If you're looking for a chaotic time, this stay was like an episode of reality tv and you will be the live audience. But, if you're looking to save a buck, I'd recommend just spending the extra 15 dollars and getting a motel 6. read more

The Greens Hotel is in a great location for easy access to food, shopping, and close to downtown without getting into pricey places. This is a very quirky hotel that is closer to a motel experience. The entrance in the hotel is through a gate that you have to call for every time you want to enter. Luckily there is someone available to answer 24 hours of the day. However, sometimes there isn't someone in the office. The exit is motion sensor activated so you don't have to call for that at least. The key to the rooms are an actual physical key, this makes it difficult compared to key cards especially if you have more than one person in the room who needs access. Super small parking lot but they do have one, make sure to get there earlier to gain access. There is plenty of street parking but it is nice to have your car behind the gate. The room was pretty bare. You can tell they did some renovations to the rooms with nicer bedding and a little table with chairs, however there is no closet, the advertised Keurig in hotel room was non-existent, the fridge had no shelves, and the bathroom is in need of a major update. There are barely any shelves, the bathroom is too small, and overall the space could use an upgrade. The staff are friendly and I hope they continue to build out the space to be even nicer. One perk is that you can enter The Shift coffee and grilled cheese cafe next door through the parking lot during open hours. Great place to grab a coffee and bite to eat. Lower prices which reflect the state of the hotel rooms. Not a bad place just quirky and has room for improvement. read more

So full disclosure. I didn't stay the whole night. I actually did spend 15 minutes in the room and I couldn't stomach it. My husband and I did find another hotel room somewhere else and just ate the cost because this room was unacceptable. I think my pictures will explain why I felt so uncomfortable there. What was a romantic weekend away really became a momentary nightmare because we thought we would have to go home (rather than stay in this room). But luckily I found a decent rate room at a nearby Marriott fast. Do yourselves a favor and avoid at all costs. No control for The television, and when they brought it to the room, the television didn't work. Looking out the window to the pool area, there were 12-15 abandoned refrigerators just sitting there. Had to book a room for a last minute trip. Wow the front lady was so sweet both on the phone and at 1:30am when I arrived! She was so so sweet with a smile! The room was very spacious, to my surprise. The bathroom as well! They provided complimentary soaps and shampoos. The towels and bed were all very clean. The exterior of this place is so cute!! It says 24/7 front office, when i came back to the hotel at night nobody answered the phones to let me in the gate, me and another car waited about 25 mins for them to open the gate. What a find! I was visiting SAC with some friends and one of them found this gem of a place. We had no clue as to the history of the neighborhood, but found out later it has a bad rep. This is a neighborhood in transition. It is transitioning in a good direction. I think the addition of the Greens Hotel is a very positive factor in that revitalization. I felt safe in the neighborhood and very safe in the hotel. Normally this hotel would earn a four star rating. It was comfy and clean and had great free wifi. What brought it over the top was the customer service and the amenities and small touches that made it outstanding. Upon checking in, we were informed that they overbooked and that the King room we reserved was not available. Oh NO! Then she smiled and said, "If it is ok with you we can upgrade you to our king suite if that would be acceptable." Oh YES! We got a HUGE room with a kitchen, living room and bedroom. OK. We are now party central for our group from Reno. The room was funky urban edgy with one of the most comfortable, luxurious beds I have ever slept in. The towels where soft and fluffy and the bathroom, while old, was clean. There is lots of outside seating to sit and visit. They provide wine glasses in the lobby, have a Kureg coffee maker in the room, a fridge for chilling wine, and lots of convenient outlets for electronics. So don't let the reputation of the neighborhood scare you away. Solid doors, secure window grates, and completely secure grounds make you feel safely tucked away. Best sleep I have had in years. I'm not getting the real negative reviews. The neighborhood is older but looks like it is undergoing revitalization- cool area coffee shop, brewery and other small shops. Possibly the next Midtown ? On arrival were greeted with a smile at the lobby. Check in was quick and easy. We went to our room as they were just finishing the cleaning. I liked the grey tones and decor style- simple and clean. The beds were comfy. Water in the shower took a minute to heat up, but temp and pressure were good. Although there are no towel racks to hang towels up after use. If the motel is fully occupied, anyone coming in after 10 pm might not get parking. But there were plenty of spaces in the street. You need to ask for a hair dryer in the lobby, as they aren't just left in the rooms. Kuregs are in each room. My only negative- is the pool opens at 8 am. And on a Saturday morning at 8 three teenage girls thought it would be cool to use. Not cool if your room over looks the pool. Advise to ask for room not overlooking the pool if you plan to be out late the night before and want to sleep in. Over all- I liked it. And would use again. Few Yelpers already mentioned about this already, but the Greens Hotel is technically a motel. With that being said, this is one of the better motels that I have stayed in and the location is pretty convenient (about 10 minutes away from downtown). The entire motel is gated and you will have to call the number posted on the front gate in order to get in - don't worry someone will always be there 24/7. The exit gate will open automatically when you are about to drive out. I booked a classic room for $112.5 per night and I actually checked-in at 10:30 PM. There are 26 rooms and each room is named from A to Z. Interestingly enough I got room L which just happen to coincide with my initial haha (or maybe the staff did this intentionally). This boutique motel does not offer complimentary breakfast and you will have to pay $25 for lost key. The staff gave me a Wi-Fi password and unfortunately their Wi-Fi network wasn't working during my two-night stay. The room had a small TV, a comfortable bed, and a working A/C. Their shower head had high water pressure and hot water was actually hot. Overall I had a pretty positive experience and the Greens Hotel has all of basic needs that you can find in any hotels. read more

I am giving this review only 2 stars because of our experience with an employee. The hotel itself is great. The Greens is a sweet little gem in Sacramento. We stayed a night here to celebrate our anniversary, & just wanted a nice place to get away. The hotel is beautifully decorated as a tribute to midcentury modern design. There are string lights over the parking lot & plant decor all around the perimeter. The best part is that the hotel is completely gated off--there are privacy hedges & a huge gate blocking the premises from the outside world. It's like its own vintage oasis in the city, which made it very romantic. The king room was beautiful! We loved the chandelier & the bed headboard. It was minimal, but all of the necessities were styled well. The bathroom was the only place of issue. The tile in the bathroom was grey in some areas, which made the shower less appealing. I'm not sure if that's part of the design, or if the floor was dirty. Either way, I didn't want to walk in to the bathroom barefoot. The major problem with our stay: We booked on Booking.com & requested a late check-out of 1pm. We received confirmation of our request from the front office. When I checked into our room, the front desk said that the late check-out was approved. We would NOT have to leave at 11am. Fast forward to the next morning. We're sleeping in & at 11:15am the morning front desk clerk pounds on our door. Wakes us up, tells us we have to leave or he's going to charge us. He wouldn't leave until my wife agreed to pack up. Not only was it incredibly disrespectful, but it disturbed our privacy & woke us up when we specifically asked to rest in. I didn't get the gentleman's info, but it was not fun. I did not get the room. They would not refund any money or answer the phone. This sweet hotel is Sacramento's hidden gem. When I stay in Sacramento, I will be delighted to stay at The Greens. The Greens is absolutely the cream of the crop for Sacramento hotels under $100. I was graciously received at check-in. The gentleman checking me in was polite, and provided customer service I just don't see often enough. High-end details have been added by the genius management: Room 128 was adorned with beautiful plantation shutters, cozy lighting, crisp cotton linens,as well as sumptuous pillows and mattress. These details put me at ease instantly. In the powder room I discovered perfectly arranged towels, high-end details, and clean surfaces felt that felt freshly attended to. Bonus #1: The room smelled great; fresh and clean! In my travels I've discovered that the minor detail of cigarette smoke stench, mold, or a mild urine scent is often left unaddressed. No worries at the Greens. Bonus #2: Sweet, sweet, silence. I was happy and relieved that I didn't have to endure any sounds from my neighboring rooms. The quality of my sleep was deep and delicious. Bonus #3: (Warning!: Slightly inappropriate.) The housekeeper is gorgeous.I happen to glance out the window just as she let down her long, long beautiful hair, standing in the sunlight, and I was mesmerized for a moment. She is well-spoken and sweet, so someone needs to recognize her for the gem she is very soon! Yes, I left a tip! You always do too, right? Honestly, I was a little sad to stay goodbye in the morning. Appearances are definitely deceiving. DO NOT STAY HERE! The bad reviews for this hotel are definitely the correct ones. We booked this hotel on 1/4/2019 for a quick stay and as we arrived we immediately noticed the horrible and shady area it is in. Once inside the room, it has a mixture of new furniture with very disgusting furniture that looks like it was taken from a hooker hotel. The truth, I think this was a hooker hotel and it was given a fresh coat of paint with a couple new things, but the nasty place it was underneath is still very present not only in the area but in the hotel. Not enough parking for all the registered guests. Bathtub shower situation is a little bit difficult and awkward. They do not allow smoking in the rooms, but there are smokers roaming around the grounds. Room was comfortable, and Wi-Fi Worked good. Nice swimming pool, and mid-august the water was a good temperature. The pool is not heated. This is an unusual looking Hotel. It's an old apartment building that's been converted. They did a good job converting, but there are times where quirky collides with dysfunctional, and sometimes downright dangerous. For example, in the bathroom there is one of those old fashioned bathtubs that are on legs. It's about half the size of a normal bathtub, and actually very interesting. Only problem, there is no mount for the shower nozzle so you must use it handheld. And there is no shower curtain around the bathtub. All of this would not be too much of a problem were it not for the electrical plug and light switch right there in the shower stall. read more

I didn't want to have to write a bad review for this place but considering the terrible customer service, here it is. I would NOT recommend staying here for any reason. I stayed for one night, because of good location to an event I was attending. The front desk upgraded my friend and I to the "mac daddy suite". SEEMS AWESOME RIGHT? The floors were so dirty my socks were stained black. The fan in the bathroom was falling off the ceiling. And best of all, the hotel charged me an extra $30 two days after checkout for "staining" two hand towels with makeup. Dirty, greedy, bad customer service. Never again. read more

What a cool place! I like funky and original places. I am on road at least 50% of each month and you get tired of La Quinta and Best Western. My usual SAC stay is at Arden Star, but I liked this much more. I really liked the room. It was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Only thing I could give a lower score on was the smaller size of the TV. I told my wife it reminded me of Michael Scott's plasma TV on The Office. Area around Greens does have a homeless issue; however, the property is gated and I did not feel like my vehicle was in jeopardy. I will be back now that I know it's here. read more

When you drive in & you're thinking "this place looks a bit sketchy", you are not alone. I'm assuming this neighborhood is not the best, judging from the protective gate you have to get through to enter and just the overall vibe, you feel it. But once you enter, you get pleasantly surprised with lights hanging from the sky, unique floating letters to distinguish each door. Patio chairs on the side for lounging on what it seems to be a peaceful oasis of dirt and plants. If you walk through the oasis you'll hit a grilled cheese cafe which feels like a laid back Starbucks. Folks are there reading, studying and ordering what smelled to be amazing but quick breakfast. I uploaded a photo of a u unique table I thought was cool on this review. The ONE person at the receptionist was a bit weird only because I'm accustomed to a team of smiles when I arrive to hotels. It wasn't a deal breaker though and I felt safe. When you enter the room, it's clean small and cute. It has a hipster personality with rustic doors/windows and dramatic ceiling lamp. It has an area to keep food. I believe a microwave but don't quote me. There is room for improvement: the sink was stopped up and dirty water sat as I brushed my teeth- yuck. The toilet seats were VERY low and too close to the sink, making it for an awkward sitting and a small improvement but my pet peeve - wires chaotically loose hanging from the tv. The price was right and overall a nice experience minus the hiccups but since I am reviewing the hotel itself and not just the vibes I'll have to give it a 3 star. I'm so glad we stumbled upon this hidden gem. Everything has been smooth sailing, from booking the room on their website to checking in. Customer service has been superb. We originally booked only one night but decided to stay another and was able to upgrade with our Yelp Check-in Offer. It was such an awesome deal and well worth staying an extra night. The bed was comfortable and the WiFi had a strong signal. There was plenty of space, especially in that awesome King room we upgraded to. My only concerns are that the bathroom sinks in both rooms were very slow to drain, which was a little annoying. There was also a stench coming from the King room's shower drain, and the shower head in that bathroom had three single streams of water coming out of it. This had potential to ruin the stay, but everything else was so awesome that I didn't let it bother me. We would return to stay here on our next visit to Sacramento. read more

So the Reno peeps headed to Sacremento in the good name of Dim Sum. We decided to make a weekend out of it. I just couldn't stay in our usual hotel (name omitted on purpose). I had to find a reasonable priced hotel. We landed at The Greens Hotel. Why? Right price point Close to everyhting Brewery across the street Coffee place (enterance in side the hotel) Near to downtown (via car) BONUS: Yelpers get a free upgrade (if avail) upon check in. Alot of the review give this hotel a bad rap due to neighborhood. A lesson in real estate before a hood is generified it goes through the homesteading period. These folk buy cheap and bring a funky new energy to the area. The Greens Hotel is leadning the way. An old time "motel" with a funky twisty. Don't worry about the 'hood they close the gates at night so you're a snug as a bug behind a big gate rug. There's a bit "city" noise but i slept like a baby! It's motel so there's no lobby bar. Parking gets tight at night but people get creative. My friend traveling with us street parked one night without an issue. The rooms have a funky vibe. The beds are ridicously high but comfy. My only issue was the bathroom. The vent fan is very loud. The floor is a bit worn. But I was able to clean up real pretty without issue. The patio area is great. If you want good wine or booze pick it up before you arrive (they have real glassware in the lobby) -- local liquor stores don't have a lot of options. The rm also has two water bottles, flat tv, and nice dressing rm ( I don't know what that little place is for..) The rm n bathroom are small but it's good enough. The room is dark, yet, don't be bothered by that. AC is loud but I'm okay with it. It's traditional one so it's normal. The toilet is close to the sink. Good thing is you can lean your chin on the sink so you can continue to sleep while using bathroom in the morning. (I actually like it) If you are a bit bigger, you may need to move yourself around. This place is the absolute pit of Sacramento. My girlfriend and I stayed for 2 nights on the bottom floor. Upon checking in, we had to wait 10 minutes for the fridge to be cleaned out. What should have been cleaned was the human "fluids" on the walls and ceiling! Working in hospitality at a hotel for 3+ years in San Francisco made this place look like a trap house. The guy told us upon arriving the housekeepers would do a great job fixing up the room. If that's the case, I can show you a liar. Human fluids and hair all over the place, along with no shampoo, towels, or proper service made this an awful stay. I strongly recommend not coming to this hotel(motel)unless you want to get the worst nice sleep. Reasons being the noise above the room and the cleanliness. Bring a blacklight if you don't believe me. Staff is ok but totally full of shit. I hate writing reviews but this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. We turned on the air conditioning and the first thing that came out was dead bugs. Oh yum. Basically, spend some extra cash and get out of the hood. You know there is a problem when your front door to get in the room has three locks. We felt like we stayed in a jail cell. Anyways, they get one star. If I could give them zero stars I would. With the Greens, I get all the convenience and price of a motel, with none of the other nasty stuff. The hardwood floors are clean and bathrooms are decent. The bedding seems new as well, so that's always nice. Cable TV and modern appliances (including a Keurig), add the the convenience factor as well. When it comes to location, we have to be honest, it's not a good place in Sacramento (hence the gate). This area of Sac is currently in the early stages of gentrification, so there are some issues with homeless and shady buildings. but there are also some signs of hope. A new brewery across the street brought a bunch of people on Friday night, also, the highest rated Sushi restaurant in Nor-Cal is next door. Literally a 30 second walk from your room. And it's amazing. and if that doesnt tickle your fancy, Midtown/Downtown/Oldtown are all $9-10 uber rides away. This hotel is awesome for what it is. A cheap/clean/safe place in Sac to leave your car and sleep for the night. Dont come here expecting the Ritz Carlton and you'll be pleasantly surprised. read more

Driving through Sac on our way home to Fresno, and our car broke down. We ended up finding this cute little tucked away hotel to accommodate us for the night. We initially got a one queen sized bed room but with a check in on yelp they upgraded us to the suite which had a king sized bed and kitchenette. It was pretty much like our own little apartment. The room was really clean, decor was beautiful, really nice modern updates to the whole property.. the area is sketchy and with our car being broken we had to walk every where but had no issues whatsoever with safety. We would 10/10 recommend. Staff was great and friendly, and overall we had a fantastic, easy stay here!! PROS: I thought the hotel was cute and convenient. I liked that it was gated and the lady that checked me in was very friendly and helpful. It is right next to some bars and coffee shops. CONS: Limited parking so if you leave prepare to come back with no available parking. They also charged me $15 for makeup on a FACE towel and I wear light makeup that is easily removed. I also only used it to wipe my brush on and nothing else. After calling to speak to someone about a mysterious charge she had attitude and said it was beyond repair. I want to know if they even washed the towel to see if it came off and if they did that leads me to believe they do not wash their towel properly. read more

IA fun well decorated boutique hotel killed by a nasty bathroom floor. The hotel decor is supper cute and has great potential. I checked in around 5 pm and was promptly buzzed in by hotel staff. I felt the grounds delightful and matched the pictures displayed on the hotel website. Upon entering my hotel room I my thrill was short lived when I stepped into the bathroom. I was provided an accessible room that offered no division for the shower area and the bathroom sink and toilet (see my pictures). Not my favorite bathroom style but it isn't a big deal - the huge deal was the nasty floor (see my pictures). OMG! I don't think the floor ever met soap or bleach - dude the floor needs a soap and bleach introduction Unfortunately the hotel was fully booked and I wasn't offered a better room. So I had to grin and bare the room. So if you are willing to try the Greens Hotel here's two tips: Bring shower shoes -you know the kind that you bring on camping trips - yea bring those just in case you end up with the wrong bathroom. Don't open the windows or the door unless you have a fly swatter, as they're are no screens. (I will say the room door is pretty cool with the hang letter to identify your room along with the unique door that splits open. It's just a bummer that there's no screen.) Will I stay here a gain? Not unless I'm super tight on cash or the management takes care of the floor of the accessible bathrooms. When I want to go camping I'll go camping and bring my flipflops for the shower, but when I'm in a hotel I want the comfort of a hotel. To the hotel management if you are reading this post, please do something about the bathroom floor. I really did like your hotel but was very disappointed that the bathroom floor wasn't as clean as the rest of the room. read more

I stayed at The Greens Hotel while I was passing through Sacramento. It was really lucky to have found this spot. The rooms are tastefully decorated and well designed. It is not big but it makes it more comfortable. The courtyard, pool area and lobby are great spaces to have as well if you need a break from your room. The owners, Drew in particular, are very energetic and on-the-ball. They really know how to run a lodging business and naturally skillful in the art of customer service. I highly recommend the place to anyone. To be fair, the neighborhood is probably not the prime spot in Sacramento. But the highly reasonable rates more than make up for this. read more

I picked this place based on yelp reviews and the price and I'm glad I did. The rooms are modern, clean and practical. Nothing fancy but well thought out. You have everything you need in the room. There's a coffee shop that also serves food adjacent to the hotel and a menu for pizza delivery from another Resturant if you want. The location is not the best but it's a gated and secured. I felt safe. I will stay again. I gave it a 4 star because the small walk in gate was left open last night and anyone could have come onto the property. They'd have to pass the lobby to go further. I just think an automatic closer would easily fix that read more

Me staying here, was a last minute decision. SO GLAD I DID! Adorable hotel. The person who checked me in, who was filling in last minute... made my stay even better, just by having a simple-personal conversation. It was so refreshing, and appreciated. The rooms, love the silver/white color scheme. It's clean. The rooms are tidy, with the items you need for your stay. I had such an amazing nights sleep. I absolutely LOVE this hotel. read more

Avoid this motel. I travel a lot, a lot to Sacramento for work. I had to stay an extra night and my favorite hotel, The Delta King, was booked so I had to move - and figured I would try to save money, so booked a room at The Greens Hotel. I checked in around 9 pm on Wednesday night and the young man who checked me in was super, super nice - very helpful. The room is pretty basic but the hardwood floor spruces it up and makes it feel large; there is no closet, just a few hangers on a crooked post attached to the wall. Around 11 pm when I went to shower, I saw hair all over the floor and no washcloths. I called the front desk and the super nice guy must have clocked out because the salty guy I spoke with said, "Oh yeah, we're out of washcloths we have to do laundry. And the bathroom floor has been mopped, the hairs are probably just from the mop......." The dirty mop? So I said that this means the floor is not actually clean - there are hairs everywhere. But he just insisted on giving excuses, when all I asked him to do was to make a note for housekeeping -- but he wouldn't do it. So then we both got salty and he yelled at me and hung up. Never. Again. At this place. I should have known when the Lyft driver dropped me off and said, "Um, are you safe here?". And I don't see any spots around here to go eat - I don't know what commenter saw "many amenities nearby." read more

First off, this not a 5 star hotel. It has a slick look of hip art district hotel, but if look closer you will see the deep layer of grime and lack of care. Broken hooks on doors, flimsy locks, stains hidden by dark patterned rugs... and so on. I often bring a sleeping bag when traveling and was glad I did on this trip. It was way too expensive for what you get. On a good note the night staff fellow was very kind. read more
