I left this review on the local dealers website four years ago but was reminded today when my brother in law was considering buying a new lawn tractor and was considering a John Deere. As I have done for the last four years I have shared my negative experience with anyone considering a purchase of a John Deere tractor. as a quick reminder the company and their dealers are instructed not to allow customer dissatisfaction to be escalated that is a unique and frustrating policy. the following is my original posting. Hopefully this is helpful just remember Buyer Beware. My John Deere D130 tractor transmission only lasted 4 years and 145 hours. The express warrantee was for two years and 120 hours but the implied warrantee would clearly indicate for almost $2,000 it should last much longer under normal wear and tear. John Deere sent a $100 standard coupon for a $1,000 repair. Both John Deere corporate and spoke to Flinn who refused to allow me to speak to his supervisor which appears to be a John Deere corporate policy to stonewall dissatisfied customers as this is the same answer provided by John and Pat at G&H in North Haven. I have the defective transmission that the dealer did not take apart to see if it could be repaired. The tractor didn't move and was leaking fluid which was all they wanted to know. Corporate reported back that the dealer said it was over used. So there you have it life expectancy for their tractor is four years and 145 hours for nearly $2000. I reported this to BBB and John Deere corporate provided no additional evidence to denying any support of their defective transmission. Poor business practices. I also emailed John May their chairman and did not receive a response. I will NEVER buy a John Deere product again and will share this story with others. read more

Before you buy a John Deere Tractor consider these additional issues & costs. I have a John Deere X300 Tractor: * Has 203 hours of use * Always stored in my garage * Only used to cut my lawn * Nothing ever placed on the hood * Taken excellent care of the tractor Yesterday after cutting my lawn and then cleaning my tractors as usual, I was backing the X300 into my garage and noticed the hood was split 2/3 of the way down the center of the hood. Considering the cost to purchase my John Deere Tractor of $3,700, I assumed this must be a one-off issue and John Deere will help with a replacement. I called John Deere twice, the first time I knew nothing of a known hood issue with John Deere Tractors, and the only help John Deere's customer service would officer is to "document the issue". After which I looked online and found several YouTube videos of how to "patch" the cracked hoods with tape, etc. I then called around to repair shops, this is a prevalent problem. Go to a John Deere dealer and the cost to replace the hood is $572.00!!! I called John Deere back after discovering this is a manufacturing and product in integrity issue. Again, no help. As I told the customer service person, John Deere has a defective product issue and is expecting its customer base to foot the bill. This is absurd. It was very sad to watch the YouTube videos of people attempting to show others how to "patch" the crack. I purchased my John Deere Tractor believing it was a quality product with excellent customer service. With John Deere abandoning its customer base, knowing full well that numerous customers are dealing with a defect, is NOT excellent customer service NOR is it a sign that they stand behind their product. After all that I've heard about the Deere, I dug down deep and spent over $3,000 on a Z-245, a zero turn, 48" cut mower. I was in heaven and now I can officially join all the retired guys who seem to have the Deere as their status symbol of being retired. Unfortunately, my Z-245 sprung an oil leak after only 6 years of use, and at the same time, one of the pistons quit firing. I took it in and the cost was $932.00. I had it serviced only 1 1/2 years ago, and that cost was also well over $500.00. The oil leak was the most costly, since it required almost 8 hours of labor to remove the engine and replace the oil pan gasket, which failed at a point where the housing was very thin. I say that this is a design flaw and should have been on a recall. I decided to write to the CEO, Samuel Allen in Moline, Illinois, just to let him know of my disappointment. This did get some action as I received a phone call from a man representing the company who said that they were investigating the situation. One week later, the guy called back to say that there was nothing they could do, but I should have notified them before the repairs were made. This all was more than I expected, and he did say that he was sending me a 35% off certificate for any parts that I might need. I said that I hoped that I wouldn't need any, and he said that he also hoped the same thing. Truly, this will also be my last John Deere that I will own. My next-door neighbor has had his J.D. for 20 years, and I don't think that he's ever had it in the shop, just servicing as needed himself. I guess that they don't make them like they used to. I have to say that I'm now wishing that I would have bought another brand instead of this lemon. And from what I've read on other reviews, I agree that the company won't stand behind their product. What a shame. It has been 2-weeks since the phone call and I have yet to receive the 35% off certificate that I hope I never have to use. read more

John Deere residential riding lawn mowers are absolute P.O.S in our experience. Our S240 lemon has never run right since day one. Its true "nothing runs like a Deere" especially a Toro, and that's a good thing! Intermittent cutting out on hills and if its cooler weather it barely runs at all. We pulled the Kawasaki twin plugs and one ceramic is tan and the other is white indicating a lean cylinder but the useless dealer we bought from says its the seat switch lol. I guess the seat switch needs warmer weather to work right and to warm up for over 2 minutes before you move forward and load the motor. We escalated our case to John Deeres customer support which was disappointing also as they REFUSED to put a carb on the P.O.S so it could maybe fuel the lean cylinder. Heads up , one lean cylinder is normal for a J D mower we were told. Special shout out to "Dave the regional manager" who absolutely refused to change the carb or coil pack on the lean cylinder. Defective products backed by clownish dealers and no mfg backing for customers. Whats not to like??? If you do make the error of buying one of these P.O.S mowers buy a trailer too as you may be constantly taking it back while the dealers guess whats wrong. BUY A TORO...they at least run. read more

Don't go with John Deere Tractors we have had nothing but trouble with the cheap metal they use in making the wheels! We have called dealer numerous times who told us they were having a big problem and they might give credit because of so many were cracking. Here we sit trying to get our hay in and the tire is flat from the crack in the rim! read more

I will NEVER buy another John Deere product. The transmission died on my X300 when the tractor had only 279 hours of lawn mowing. The tractor was serviced regularly by a John Deere dealer. The repair was approximately $1,300 and John Deere wouldn't assist at all. read more

I bought a John Deere 1025R tractor and at 150 hours it needed a completely new engine. Fortunately it was still under warranty or it would have been a $10000 repair bill. Now 2 years later and at only 355 hours and no warranty the hydraulic valve that controls the lift won't control the lift and I'm facing a $1200 bill to replace it. I really think that John Deere is highly overrated and if I can get close to my money back it's on the market and I'll never own another. read more

Nothing runs like a Deere! It's true as I'm still using the Deere mowing tractor and cart that my father bought in 1971! Yes, we've had to replace parts and belts over the years but that's expected with any mower. I'll never buy a John Deere product again! I bought a LX 255 Tractor w/bagger. Terrible, never bagged properly from day one. Customer Service was useless! The dealer tried to modify the grass deflector and that made the problem worse. Now they have redesigned the chute to a 2 piece. Take care of your customers, and may be they will buy your product again!!! Buy a Craftsman and save your money, their made by Husqvarna and perform very well!!! read more

I have been a loyal Deere customer for 20+ years. About 9 years ago I bought a lawn tractor for my yard at my new house. In the past I had no issues with any Deere product. The website has an option where you enter your information to determine which unit to purchase for your size yard. I bought the one recommended, a 155c. I have had to replace the steering gears 4 times in the 9 years that I have owned it. I was told by the parts dealer that the gears are "made soft" and strip out because that is how they keep the price down on the tractors. I now have transmission problems. The tractor barely moves. I have replaced the drive belt thinking it was worn, no change. The company will not do anything to help me out. I have read numerous forums which say that the transmission in the tractor is garbage, weak and useless. Many people have had problems with units that have this transmission and someone is trying to start a class action lawsuit. I Nam told that a repair on this is estimated between $700-$1000. Deere claims that if the dealer finds the transmission is faulty that they "will look into any reimbursement" to me. SO, if they don't compensate for anything, I have sunk another $1000 into a 9 year old unit. NOT HAPPY! read more

Well I bought a John deere tractor D140 seriesin 3-13-15,worked good,drove good and cut was good as well as getting into tight spots,I was proud to have another since I still have an old one from 70's parked for sentimental.I am so disappointed in the batteries that they put in these machines with a code 6which means 6 month free replacement and well at between 5-6 months I started having problems with the battery,so I parked it for awhile gave it a rest went to start and it didn't,charged it,ran good,parked it,charged again thought I must've left lights on or the key on,3rd time became a problem so I called nearest dealer and was told to bring it in,I have no trailer cause it was delivered,I suggested I take the battery off myself since I'm a car mechanic for over 20 years,I was told I had to bring in the whole tractor into them per warranty only they can touch it or voids warranty,every mechanic knows that when you take off a battery completely off the equipment with absolutely nothing connected,you fully charge it acouple times and it doesn't hold a charge,it's no good,last time I charged it wouldn't even go up to 12volts cause it wouldn't charge anymore,I got so upset and angry,frustratedn pissed so I let it go for awhile due to several projects going on,finally cooled off borred trailer from relative called dealer,he checked my date of purchase and was told my battery was no longer covered and had to take it in so they could put a nother one and I had to pay,that really blew it so I hung up,I can't believe top of the line equipment with cheap ass batteries with sorry customer service,if anybody asks me I will tell the truth,one bad battery spoils the whole damn equipment and nobody cares anymore we get treated like crap,if they don't send me a new battery without charge and I have to buy a different brand,they will hear from me again,so long and take care of your customers cause if more people stop buying and go somewhere else by word of mouth,you will be forced to cut back and a lot of people may be laid off,so long bye,I don't want to post on facebook,Twitter,linked in or other sources and share but maybe. read more
