Dr Ellis is a great orthopedic surgeon! He performed a total hip replacement (arthroplasty) & because of the great job i asked if he would do both knees & eventually my R shoulder & his response was yep lets make your hip happy 1st & THAT HE DEFINITELY DID!!! As for his staff in his Temecula office they were BEYOUND fantastic & empathetic once we got a big mess squared away w/the VA Community care. His Assistant Carmen was so unbelievably helpful i felt she was a key factor in getting the ball rolling & Anne Marie, surgical sceduler couldn't of helped more. Not sure why my Orthopedic surgeon needed me to stick my tongue out but I guess because he's that thorough HAHA...Dont question it JUST DO IT!!!! Just want to share, my mom has had three different surgeries in the same arm due to the negligence caused by this man. OMG- This quack who calls himself a doctor-John Ellis has hundreds of negative reviews going back over 15 years. I am glad I had the sense to read them before allowing him to touch me. Unfortunately though- Not before I had the opportunity to subject myself to a consultation with him. He lives up to his awful reputation and then some. He is arrogant, demeaning, and reprimands his patients for asking a question or trying to interject some relevant information. His diatribe is ridiculous and relentless and he berates any perceived interruption. He has been reported to The California State Medical Board on numerous occasions for malpractice including the paralysis and deaths of patients under his care. Dr Ellis' narcissism, self adoration, and lack of compassion are bad enough. But when his procedures result in loss of life or limb or mobility- That takes his ineptitude to an entirety different and more dangerous level. He wanted to amputate my finger. Totally messed up the surgery for my broken elbow. I kept telling Dr Ellis how much my shoulder was hurting and not allowing me to complete my physical therapy sessions. Long story short I asked for an MRI witch Ellis denied. I also asked for a second opinion which was my right under worker's compensation. Dr Ellis still refused. I had to get an attorney to get a second option and two different doctors evaluated my situation and both doctors said I needed rotator cuff surgery. I saw Dr. Ellis yesterday for a fractured tibia. Within 24 hours I was back in his office with CD in hand from cat scan. Never have I ever gotten a same day ct scan. Both days Dr. Ellis treated me with courtesy and respect, was very thorough in explaining the break and what would be best for me. I highly recommend Dr. Ellis. His office was great too. read more

This ambulance chaser performed a surgery on me for a fractured femur bone. I will not call him doctor. Two years later, I can barely walk without tremendous pain. On the first appointment he was unapologetically 3 hours late. He immediately began to gaslight me and try to make me look foolish and kept looking at my daughter for approval of his sarcastic remarks to me which were demeaning and undermining me the entire appointment. He is the true meaning of a narcissist. I never went to back to him nor would I ever. God help the person who has an emergency and gets this guy as a surgeon. Recently a friend asked me who did my surgery she was needing surgery and dropped the name Doctor Ellis in Temecula. My surgery was about 7 years ago and I still have trouble in that area, painful to walk at times. I still think about how rudely I was treated by this man in regards to questions about my scar to physical therapy! He is very dismissive and loves to belittle his patients with personal mean spirited jokes. My health is not funny and I need the best care possible. I asked about my scar and he told me Me " are you posing for playboy," who cares! I also was having difficulty walking far after my surgery and went back to him about physical therapy, he said I didn't need it. I almost begged him to schedule more X-rays and he said " we're done here and stop being a baby! I have a wonderful Doctor now in Menifee. The experience with Doctor Ellis will never go away. What a bizarre experience. I'll give a bit of background information to start. I have a compound fracture in my collarbone with one bone fragment floating inside. I was told by the urgent care physician and a second physician that they absolutely recommend surgery, so through my HMO, I was referred to dr. Ellis. I had high hopes, after sitting around for 5 days with this bone producing out of my collar area... He seemed very kind at first, however I was a bit off-put by how quickly he ran through routine questions -- ie, allergies, medical history, etc. He cut off each of my answers with his next question. It made me really think, oh, he's just asking me these questions because it's protocol, not because he's taking a mental note of my case. Okay. Then we start talking about my fracture. He basically tells me, okay, 50/50 it doesn't really matter if i get surgery or don't. The choice is mine. He took me around the back of their medical counter to look at my X-rays on the computer. Then I reminded him that there was a bone fragment in there and that other doctors had noticed.... and asked what he thought about that? He seemed to have forgotten and then thought OH okay, maybe surgery IS best for you. But eh, either way the choice is yours. I was really hoping for a more clear, medically advised decision. However, I understand that I do have a choice. Anyway. I chose surgery, even though I wasn't positive it was "the best choice." I went back to my seat in the waiting room, where my dad was waiting, and sat down to fill out my paperwork. I felt somewhat confused and annoyed. My dad asked me what Dr. Ellis had said and I expressed frustration that I did not get the clear cut answer that I had somewhat been expecting. That it didn't seem to matter to him 6 one way or half a dozen the other. All well and good, I suppose, I haven't done this before but I just felt uneasy about it, especially about him suddenly remembering that I had a bone fragment in there and that "maybe" surgery was better than not. This is where it gets weird. A nurse was eavesdropping on my conversation with my dad. She overheard me talking to him about how I didn't get a clearcut decision and that I was a little confused/frustrated. This is a private conversation that I am having with family. She took that and went and talked to other staff, and Dr. Ellis. Then, another nurse who i had not yet spoken with, came to talk to me about post op. medication, told me she could not fulfill my request and to come with her because my surgery was being CANCELED. Before it had even been set in motion. I was very confused, but I followed. She took me back to the patient room where I spoke with Dr. Ellis, and Dr. Ellis came in and proceeded to tell me that he was no longer comfortable scheduling my surgery, because, and I quote, "THERE IS JUST SOMETHING WEIRD ABOUT YOU." That is what he said to me. I asked, "what may I ask, are you TALKING about?" He then informed me that his nurses had made it clear that they "caught me" talking on the phone and saying that the surgeon "didn't know what he was doing" and that "I demanded a second opinion." Woah. Not only did I never get on my phone, but I never said he didn't know what he was talking about, and I never said I wanted a second opinion. His staff played an immature game of "telephone" and skewed my words, and caused a drama scene within the office and Dr. Ellis plays into it. I'm not sure what sort of circus they are running at this place, but I will not have a bunch of children cutting my skin open and putting my bones back together, thank you very much. Worst office ever!!!! The doctor was good BUT getting a surprise bill in the mail when I have a NO COPAY is not cool!!! I called my insurance plan and they told me that this office found a loop hole in the system that can allow them to bill you when you have a NO COPAY ...this is not right in anyway they don't tell you this until after the fact. My husband had a very rare bilateral quadriceps surgery. Dr. Ellis is an extremely competent surgeon. 7 weeks after surgery he's in the facility with Chris who handles PT right on site. He's excellent, too. Jennifer, case manager, was extremely helpful in navigating hospital transfers and paperwork. Seems like the office has great teamwork atmosphere. read more

Dr. Ellis is rude, condescending, doesn't listen, doesn't allow you to ask questions, doesn't care, and misdiagnosed my husband. I went to an appointment with my husband because I didn't believe Dr. Ellis could be as bad as my husband was making him out to be. While we were sitting there, the doctor popped his head in, my husband asked a question- Dr. Ellis didn't answer him, turned around, walked out of the room, and never came back. Dr. Ellis cancelled my husband's PT which was helping him, causing permanent damage (and was found by an AME to be responsible for the magnitude of his current injury due to negligence) and he is still severely injured permanently more than 3 years after having Dr. Ellis as his Ortho. The doctor was negligent and uncaring and I would never recommend him to any person who has an orthopedic surgeon need. As far as the office goes, a standard wait was between 3-6 hours and staff don't like to answer phone calls or return messages. read more

Dr. Ellis was very condescending during my visit. He didn't listen well, nor did he answer all of my questions. I have a very sore shoulder, and he said I had spinal compression, and told me to go ahead and do anything I wanted with my shoulder. So, I cleaned, lifted things, went surfing, and my shoulder got worse. I was supposed to return in a month. Cancelled appointment. Very unprofessional, and you'd be better off seeing a "GOOD" , recommended by a friend or other doctor, orthopedist. I did go to a great orthopedist, Dr. Dellman, and he had me do an MRI, and turns out I have tendonitis, and bone spurs. So, Dr. Ellis didn't do the MRI, or diagnose me properly. I just left this office, I do not understand what just happened. I do not know if my knee has an injury or not. Dr. Ellis asked me how I supported myself, I felt humiliated. He got on my case because of the medications prescribed to me by another doctor. At first he was going to treat my knee until I told him about my other medications, now I have no idea what exactly is my diagnoses. I know he returned me to my primary. An amendment: I saw Dr. Ellis' associate, Dr. Steven Kelley, he looked at my knee, he ordered diagnostics, he removed the torn cartilage in November 2014, I am very thankful to Dr. Kelley, he is great. read more

Dr. John Ellis in Temecula has performed 3 surgeries left and right meniscus and one ACL that i got while playing racquetball all surgeries went very well in fact after both meniscus operations i was back at my desk that afternoon the ACL if any of you watch sports is a lot more severe and will take you out for the season I'm back playing racquetball and have no pain. all the staff are super nice and would and do recommend them my wife works for a nearby hospital and knows the good ones and all the bad ones and she says he's the best of the best. read more

I was referred to Dr. Robinson for physical therapy. My first appointment was an absolute ish show. I showed up at 9:15 for my 9:30 appointment to allow time for new patient paperwork, which was not even given to me until close to 10:00. I then continued waiting in the unpleasant old waiting room until after 10:30 when my name was finally called. Once in the exam room, I waited a few more minutes and a (nurse?) came in to confirm who I was and why I was there. A few minutes later Dr. Robinson came in and told me I need to wait a few more weeks before starting anything. I left at 11:07. Yes, way more than an hour and a half just to be told I need to reschedule. He didn't even look at or touch my shoulder. This could've been communicated to me over phone or email maybe instead of wasting pretty much my entire morning. TOTAL disrespect for my time. So I scheduled an appointment a couple weeks out as I was told, again for 9:30AM. In the meantime I got a bill for treatment! REALLY!? The treatment I was told I couldn't get yet!? I showed up for my 2nd appointment today and once again, the nasty old reception area was a hot mess. After waiting until 10:30, I told the receptionist I am out of time and I am leaving without rescheduling. She kindly told me I would be next, but that was way too little and too late. Having worked with doctors for many years, I can recognize a busy, organized doctor. That is Dr. Ellis. I found him to be very good. He covered all the bases of my knee problem. I knew he was right on because I have had several issues with this knee in the past. We were traveling through California when my knee acted up and his office got me in promptly. His treatment was just what I needed. I noticed posts about Dr.Ellis which were not very favorable. The posts complained that he was too abrupt and didn't take enough time. NOT TRUE! He is a very busy doc who zooms right in to assess the problem and recommends the best plan of action. If you want a doc who sits and listens to you for a long time, then go find one. Insurance companies make it very difficult for docs to spend a lot of time with each patient. All in all, if you have an orthopedic issue, don't hesitate to see Dr. Ellis! read more

He thoroughly examines and ask questions to narrow the problem, clearly explains the problem, then provide what he recommends based on knowledge and experience. He's one of the Best. All of the office staff are helpful, courteous, and professional. They follow up with phone calls and is very timely in completing paperwork that's required. If you have to have surgery, just know that the facility, staff, and services are first class! The Physical Therapist is also very good and knowledgeable. I was stressed, scared, and overwhelmed...I got recommended to this location from the rancho springs emergency room after my boyfriend broke his arm. I called the next morning, and the staff was absolutely wonderful. I have never felt more at ease in a situation i knew nothing about. To walk into a business, especially when you don't have insurance is very nerve wracking, but when you have people who truly help you and make you feel at ease, that is worth every penny to me. The dr was great and to the point, yes he was quick and out but helped us with everything and sent the girls in to help us with insurance questions. I believe in second chances. I saw Dr. Ellis in 2015 for my knee. Didn't care for the arrogance and bedside manners. He evaluated my knee and gave me a cortisone injection. The following year I went to a different local doctor and got an injection there. I wasn't impressed with the second doctor either (for different reasons). I recalled having no pain when Dr. Ellis gave me the cortisone injection and nearly fainting when the other doctor gave me an injection. Time passed, and today I went back to Dr. Ellis ... figured I'll deal with his attitude if I can get an injection without jumping out of my skin. Here's what I experienced ... staff was prompt and thorough. My last visits ... my waits were at least an hour long. Today's visit no longer than 30 minutes if that. Dr. Ellis came in with the same tone as he did with the other patients (as you can hear through the walls). He was very honest and upfront and very concerned. Not like the last time ... he argued with the doctor who read the MRI results. My room had shelves with supplies for casts (could appear as a storage room but NOT). I left his office with a game plan ... next steps to a healthier me. If you had a bad experience ... try him one more time. I will say this ... when I called last week to make an appointment I literally said out loud to the receptionist ... "but not with Dr. Ellis, I don't care for his attitude." Not sure if my comment made it his way; but from what I experienced today ... he was genuinely nice, concerned, and funny. He really is a good doctor. Food for thought: Sometimes we are told things we don't really want to hear. He's honest and sometimes honesty hurts and may come across as crass ... especially when you're not feeling well. read more

3.5 stars. Left hip Birmingham resurfacing. After two weeks I was walking without aid. At 90 days I have started jogging on the treadmill. I will be playing basketball again. Mechanically I am pleased with where I am. I did prepare myself for surgery. I lost ten pounds. I read up online about other patient experiences as well as suggested pre-surgery preparations. I read forums and online blogs for post op assistance. Dr. Ellis did not offer significant information about prepping. Post op he has offered limited information about what I should or shouldn't do, and when, other than walk. I believe this is because he only wants you to focus on those instructions HE believes you (I in this case) need to know at any given point. Good for someone who follows instructions to a "T" as they are given. A bit difficult for those who think in the abstract with a need to ask a lot of 'what abouts?'. read more

I fractured my wrist and Dr. Ellis saw me during my hospital stay. He was in and out but was extremely nice. I got my cast on last Friday. we did have a bit of a wait, however the staff was very accommodating and pleasant. The Doctor gets extra points for calling me young lady (I know, I know), but he answered all our questions and we had quite a few. The cast is driving me crazy so I hope this will be the fastest month ever! read more

Came in for a workers Comp injury months ago. Doctor Ellis had horrible bedside manner and the first thing he said to me was "Stop- You just told me 10 words I don't care about." He brought me over to the X-Rays and said "See? It's not broken." WELL DUH. I wouldn't be able to move my shoulder if it was. He sent me back to the room then a nurse came in and told me i can leave... WITHOUT A DIAGNOSIS. So I went to the front desk and asked them what my diagnosis was and they were like "He didn't tell you?" And I said no. Then I waited a few more minutes to go back to the back and he Diagnosed me with a contusion and when I asked what a contusion was, he just put his fists together in a pounding manner. What is that supposed to tell me? Anyway, I never went back. Turns out that it was a SLAP tear and rotator cuff impingement. I had multiple tears in my bicep tendon and labrum which required surgery so thanks for nothing Dr. Ellis. Seriously, such a bitter old man... read more

I thought I found a good doctor, but when you go into a room and he runs in for two minutes and then runs out and sends his assistant in, this is no Bueno! I asked for x-rays after the third time seeing him because he has no idea what's wrong with my feet. I was left in the room for 20 minutes when I told him I had another doctor appointment after. Excellent surgeon highly recommended went to see him thought I fracture my leg he was very knowledgeable and very sensitive to my pain x-ray show no fracture dr Ellis gave me mess for pain and ask me to rest and not to do anything for few days he explain to me what it is and ask me to call him if it's not getting better in a few days. Have you ever heard the saying "if I could put only one star I would? If not, you just did! I was referred to Ellis (yes Ellis because he lost my respect in calling him a Dr.) for Carpal Tunnel by my Dr. based on a nerve study recommended by my neurologist. The neurologist who did MRIs and everything else they do, made it clear I had carpel tunnel (in addition to other sh..). Below is the email I just sent to my Dr. about my visit to this circus. I just walked out of Ellis' office. I waited for him for an hour and a half with no one telling me why he was running an hour and a half late! Then they put me in a room that was clearly a storage room (I kid you not) at least that's what the nurse told me due to all the boxes thrown in the room. Then Ellis comes in and asks "why are you here? (Not, sorry for you having to wait so long or even introducing himself). I say "Carpel Tunnel". Then he starts in with a line of questioning that borders on absurd. Then he asks me "what hats going on here, why are you angry"? I say I'm not angry, I'm disappointed having to sit here and wait for an hour and a half without anyone telling me why you are running late! Again, I tell him what's wrong, he tells me it doesn't sound like Carpel Tunnel. I said "that's why I was referred here." Then he begins to tell me about his 95% success rate with fixing carpel tunnel...Wait, are you kidding me right now? Why are we now discussing something you don't think I have? He then asked where my nerve study was? I say "how should I know? He then walks out and says nothing! passes me off to his Office Manager who puts on a smile and asked me the same thing. I tell her, I don't know, contact my doctor. I soon here Ellis talking to another patient about their issue, which I couldn't believe. Both Ellis and the office manager leave. I wait there for a few more minutes, before I jump off the table in the storage room and walked the truck out! He had know idea (because he didn't ask or review any chart it was blank) that I was a 30 year Marine Corps Veteran dealing with chronic pain, 9 bulging disks and a slew of other crap. So, could it be that this treatment came from knowing my insurance was Tri-Care and it's going to take them forever to pay them? So let's treat people like 2nd Class Citizens? As this has happened before? Bottom line: -Go here if you want to be treated like a number. -Go here if you want to hear a pompous and arrogant Dr. (who apparently doesn't need the business,) talk down to you and look at you like I'm taking up too much of his time! -Go here if you want to be part of a Circus that wont review your history prior to talking to you about anything.
