I am sorry to report this store is no longer a place where you can purchase Lerro Candies. The store cases and shelves are gone as is Mrs. Lerro. A for sale sign is currently on the building itself. Amazing chocolate. Very mom and pop store. Very nice and friendly owner . My Easter candies shopping spot. They are well known for the Easter candies. Coconut., coconut cream, butter cream, peanut butter, nuts with different sizes based on the weight. Closes at 4 Sunday usually closes but a week before Easter it is open. Delicious chocolate covered pretzel too. Everything is cheap. read more

Everything here is delicious ! I honestly prefer lerros chocolate covered pretzels to those of Asher's. I feel as Lerros gets the sweet and salty textures more point on in that sense. The chocolate also tastes of better quality. Another favorite of mine is there peanut butter brownie dough bites. Give them a shot & support a small business while you're at it ! read more

I was in the area and looking for something to Naushon when I noticed this small local chocolatier. I will preface this review in that I am not a fan of big label candies and nor do I feel good eating them. However the sign says they been in business for 100 years so I decided to stop in and give them a shot. John Lerro's is the worst chocolate I have ever had. I received a box of assorted chocolates that were such a let down. They tasted as stale as the store smelled. Worst of all, there were pieces that were actually so bad I couldnt even eat them. One in particular was so hard, you couldnt even bite into it. When the box was taken back to the store ever the workers scratched their heads at what some of the pieces were- they couldnt even tell me! Worse yet, they proved to be rude and insulting to the request of a refund. Somehow by the grace of god they eventually honored it. I will never, ever be back and honestly am surprised this place has stayed in business but I acquire that to old people who live in the area and can not drive. read more

Have eaten many Easter Eggs from Lerro's but my husband bought 2 this past weekend. He gave one as a gift and when they opened and cut the Coconut Cream Egg, it was hard and the chocolate fell right off. They gave the egg back to my husband and said it was hard. We cut ours on Easter Sunday and I have to agree. It was hard and the chocolate fell off. It did not taste fresh! Sorry Lerro's next year I will take my business elsewhere. I'm not sure what this other person is talking about, my family has been getting Lerro's candy for years and it's always amazing! Such delicious chocolate and excellent quality. Also, their customer service CANNOT BE BEAT. I called the Darby location (I had a hard time finding the contact info for the South Philly location) to see what time the South Philly store was open until. They close at 5pm, but I explained that I don't get out of work until 5pm and was hoping to pick up a box of chocolate. The nice man that answered the phone told me he would call the South Philly store and arrange for someone to be there at 5:30pm that very day with the chocolate I wanted. I showed up about 15 minutes late due to traffic and the nice older woman at the South Philly shop was more than happy to re-open and had my chocolate waiting for me. Authentic and old school candies sold in a South Philly neighborhood business that looks like it has been there for eons. Everything I've bought there has been top notch and well received at parties and as gifts. The sweet little old lady who works there is a real dear heart but a little hard of hearing. Anything they make with peanut butter or pretzels is awesome. The chocolate covered toffee, nut, and raisin barks are simple and a delight. The colored rock candy isn't strongly flavored but it so pretty and sweet who cares. Their coconut candies have wonderful textures. They have something for every budget with bags of "seconds" often available for available $1. BUT authenticity is not for everyone and that is why there are chain stores and artisnal vegan goat cheese truffle places. read more

One star is too many for this dim, dusty, drab and dated chocolate shop that claims to supply their cases with candies made at their own local factory. I had high hopes on a rainy Friday afternoon that Lerro could satisfy a sweet tooth only to find the opposite. The shop is in disarray with antiquated candies in plastic bags piled on the counter tops. The cases are sparse featuring, who-knows-how-old, sugar-free and regular chocolates set askew on plastic trays. Still....I bought one of those plastic bags of $1 coconut creams and should have known better. The confection tasted older than the archaic religious relics strewn about the shop. The spit-out-worthy chocolates were thrown right in the trash. The one positive was the sweet woman behind the counter. With all due respect, Lerro is going to need a divine intervention via those sacred gizmos in order to sell me another bite of their chocolate. read more

I have been having John lerro's candies for many years. The first was 1980 when I was in the Methodist hospital after having my first born child. My husband came in with milk chocolate Carmel's, buttercreams and my favorite chocolate covered cherries. Now when I visit south Philly my 4 yr old granddaughter always asks can we go too the marshmallow store. Traditions all fall into the next generations. read more

I am personally trying to carry on a tradition started by my parents and it is a pleasure to continue this tradition and it is definetely a pleasure doing business with Lerro Candies which is a tradition in itself. I have been buying candies here for many years! I especially love the different holidays with their many decorated candy selections. Their chocolate covered pretzels are to die for!!! lol But the best is having small chats with Carmella in the So. Phila. Store on Broad Street.
