John McHugh Electric is second to none. My wife wanted new light fixtures throughout the house so we went to Home Depot to get an idea of what to expect. We live in an old house in Charlestown MA so the building materials arnt the greatest to work with. I have seen John McHugh Electric signs at many charity events throughout Boston so we decided to give him a call. The actual owner answered the phone on the first try and was out to our house the next day. That was huge in my book because normally we get an apprentice who has to call "the boss" several times if we have questions. John was ready for all our questions. Having worked on houses in the area he is able to trouble shoot any problems that may come up with old building materials. I.e. Horsehair plaster. John recommended some fixtures and switches that he preferred and the cost was the same as Home Depot because he buys direct from the manufacturer. John will be back in the fall to upgrade our breaker box. He has keys to the house as he is very trustworthy and professional. John always leaves the house cleaner then when he arrives. read more

I do not write many reviews but was so impressed with John P McHugh Electric's work, honesty, and efficiency that I needed to share. I asked John to install a brand new Cyrus Chandelier into a a old wired living room. John and his apprentice showed up 5 minutes before expected time. They assessed the situation and then told me exactly what they were going to do before starting. They were patient with all of my questions and found that the previous wiring job was not up to code. Instead of charging me for another project he updated the faulty wiring and then gave me tips on what to update. All this was done in less than hour. I am recommending John P McHugh Electric to my neighbors in my 500+unit complex and look forward to having him back for more work in my condo. read more

I have found that even top-rated contractors and services are not really that good at all. Many don't respond to inquiries, don't keep appointments, charge way too much, and do a mediocre job. John is one of the few that deserve the high rating. He and his crew were professional friendly, and punctual. They answered all the questions about the work to be done and different alternatives. Not only was their quote on the low end of those that we got, but the final price was even lower than the quote. John did an excellent job at installing new circuits and outlets and ceiling fans. No messes to clean up afterwards. The work looks great (and of course, everything works as it should). I definitely would use John again. read more

John called immediately after I contacted him, came right on time and was a pleasure to work with.I originally thought we'd need two new bathroom exhaust fans, but John fixed the circuit for the existing heater, changed the bulb in one of the fixtures. we were all set without having additional expensive and unnecessary electrical work. John is the sh*t!!!! We were in a bit of a bind with a circuit that kept tripping and we were concerned that it was a fire hazard. All of his guys were busy so he made the trip out himself that day, and had the circuit fixed in no time.
