Dr. Song shares his office with his wife Mary Shannon, DDS who manages the pediatric dentistry side of the practice. Both are top 1% and we have been going to them for over 6 years (and now I'm scared too many people will flock to them). My husband and I are both healthcare providers with a high bar for excellence. We both see Dr. Song and all 3 of our children, ages 1 to 7, see Dr. Shannon. We were referred first to Dr. Shannon by a fellow health care provider who had also been referred by another friend (tons of word of mouth referrals). As a paranoid helicopter overprotective parent of one daughter, he assured me my kids couldn't be in better hands and wouldn't let me take my kids anywhere else even though I had booked an appointment at another practice in Santa Monica. He started taking his daughter to Dr. Shannon when she was 3 and now she is 13. He and his wife see Dr. Song too. I couldn't agree more. I was told both Drs. Song and Shannon teach at the UCLA dental school and are the preferred dentists for many UCLA dentists themselves as they were their professors. Dr. Song is soft spoken, gentle, meticulous, detail oriented, and extremely ethical. He is also a prosthodontist. Both providers do what is in the best interest of the patient not for personal profit or to increase their revenue. The work is high quality and if you have any outstanding issues, they rectify it without charging you for the same original issue unless it's something different. Their dental hygienists and staff are superb as is Esther who works front office. They take COVID precautions to limit people in their office by calling you when you arrive to come up to protect patients and staff. They get you in quickly and have electronic forms. They respond quickly if you have any concerns even with their busy schedules. Billing is easy and straightforward. They take Delta Dental PPO I have through UCLA. I have never felt taken advantage of and they never order unnecessary imaging or procedures unless indicated (they will let you know the rationale if you need anything else other than standard cleaning). I've recommended them to NextDoor as well as to friends and patients. Parking is at meters in front of the building and along Wilshire unless you can find neighborhood parking. I believe they have garage parking if you want to pay too. Plenty within 2 blocks. There is an Erewhon next to the building if you need to kill time at the market plus Milo and Olive for coffee and eats across the street. Highest possible commendation and recommendation. We used to see Cynthia Cheung in Westwood who is also great, but this practice fits our family needs the best (plus love Esther - front office sometimes has the greatest impact on the office you choose and ultimately stay at). read more

A prosthodontist.... specifically trained in dental problems i.e. ill fitting dentures. Dr Song failed miserably over the course of a 1 hour appointment which turned into FOUR HOURS of sitting in his chair while he bounced back and forth treating other patients. I was NEVER informed my 8am appt was a squeeze in! Rude that you would do that to your patients. My 8am appointment ended at 12 noon with these results! Photos cannot be denied! Also during the 4 hours I was there, I informed YOU Dr Song of CROSS CONTAMINATION when your uneducated staff stuck her UNGLOVED finger into the bowl of water with my denture in it! When I informed you Dr Song, you made no attempt to even switch it the water or apologize? Serious covid concern, you say nothing except "Well, it wasn't Sharon". ?? Now I'm in additional pain from your substandard reline & it's sharp edges. Now I'm having to incur the cost of paying a PROFESSIONAL to clean up your mess & start over! Dr Song, you should have more pride in your work, go get further education, or step away from the dental field you are failing at. This was a simple reline. I've been to many dentists in LA, too many. I've been with Dr Song for the last 5 years and I think I have found my forever dentist. He s very kind and patient and his work is excellent. He also take Delta Dental which was a big plus for me. I see there were some reviews for people that upset with multiple patients being seen during their visits, I have to say all the dentists do this to a certain degree and Dr Song is usually really good about not leaving you hanging too long. Dr. Song is probably the most thorough dentist I have ever seen. I've had a few dentists over the years, mostly due to moves or job/insurance changes so I've seen my fair share of dentists in the So Cal area. So what am I impressed with? Let's see here: - You can get a hold of him & his office quickly - Your appointments can be handled within a reasonable time. No scheduling 6 months out which I find ridiculous with some doctors - He inspects each tooth individually - and if there's anything that comes up, he shows you. THis makes me feel good seeing exactly where and why he's working on it. I've never had this done before - Dr Song and his receptionist/assistant are friendly. After just one visit they learned my name and started recognizing my calls, etc. I like that a lot. All in all Dr. Song is a friendly, smart, and thorough dentist. Hmmmm, wonder why there are all these raving reviews??? I went to see him for a second opinion in a very painful and desperate situation. Dr Song has not taken a stand against his peers who messed up my teeth . After 6 months I still do not have a clear statement as to why/what went wrong with my teeth and how to fix it even though I am in a lot of pain getting worse. I had the same experience as Han. Dr. Song was a really nice man, soft spoken and kind. However, when it came to diagnosing pain I was having, he just didn't know what to do. I never got an explanation. He was wishy washy on taking a position on other dentists' work. When the pain wasn't being resolved, he just stopped returning my calls instead of being honest and saying that he couldn't help me. Our entire family of 5 are patients of him and his wife (pediatric dentist Dr. Mary Shannon) We knew them first on a personal level through our children. We heard such great feedback from others about them that we left our dentist-turned-makeover-TV-star of more than a decade to go to them. We are so glad we did. I completely trust John's work. And he is beyond accommodating. One night a veneer I had on my front tooth for about 15 years came off. It was 36 hours before I was supposed to jump on a plane. He called me back after 9pm and said he would make arrangements to fix it in the morning. Not only did he fit me into his tight schedule. He did an amazing job. The tooth matches perfectly! i could not be more satisfied. He has also been equally amazing to my husband working around his crazy work schedule to fit him in one evening late.
