At best I can say that Academy moving company was reasonably priced, but there was someting missing, like common sense. No one seemed capable of asking me questions, and at age 82, I do not wish to be the person who monitors their every move. The movers left items in my hall bath, along with two large rugs in the garage, and the truck was gone! They seemed a bit disoriented as to the order of packing items and obviously no one went back through the rooms to check for items possibly left behind. My ivy plants came through a few crushed vines, but they will revive. When they arrived at my new residence, about 5 miles away, they placed the twin bed frames BACKWARD on the floor, with mattresses on top. My handy man came the next day and corrected the situation. They broke something in one of the drawers in my chest of drawers, with a piece of the drawer missing. No, I cannot recommend this company because they simply did not display the command and control of the entire process as other companies I've hired in the past. read more

Roger, Christian and apologize don't remember the third gentleman's name were ausome they showed up on time n busted their humps for 7 hours started a 8 didn't take a lunch break. John Volken Movers assisted my move at the beginning of May. I had them move the big items - such as large furniture items and my washer as well as my freezer. We moved the smaller items and boxes with a UHAUL trailer and my truck. They came on-time, and I explained that a few of the large furniture items were going to junked, etc. I took approx. 3 hours for them to pack all of the items we wanted to move, and approx. 3 hours (including drive time) to unpack in the new house. I thought that 2 of the 3 workers really worked hard on the move. The third person seemed to be a lot more lackadaisical and that he seemed to be more interested in looking at me than doing his job (it was kind of weird). Finally, I did notice a fairly significant gash in one of my pieces of furniture. I did purchase insurance, and the lead mover did say that their manager will contact me on restoring the item, although he did say it would take two weeks for that to be set up. Honestly, I think two weeks to get contacted on fixing an item is far too long. It should not take more then 15 minutes to get an email or a call to set something up. I am not hopeful that I will ever get the item fixed. Thankfully the item is a few years on the old side. If it were new, I would be supper unhappy with the situation. Even with this situation, I did give a Tip. I think the cause / mission of this institution is worthy, and although one item was damaged - I think two of the three workers deserved it. I am giving a 4-star rating due to: - Damage on one of my items (again not hopeful that it will get fixed). - Only 2 of the 3 workers busting butt. - Worthy institution / cause / mission If my item was new and got damaged - I would likely only give a 2-star rating and no tip. read more

(Brandon Corbin Jesus) They did an amazing job getting right to work. They surveyed my furniture and devised a plan. They wrapped everything very well, and protected my belongings. They loaded their rig very cautiously with precision, and then off to the new house. They arrived at the new house and unloaded everything very quickly. They would have placed everything where I wanted it, but I really wasn't sure where it should all go. If I had to do another move I would certainly use them.
