I love a good boutique, and Soca's styles almost always catch my eye. Their clothing is always very…read moreclassy and they tend to have more neutral styles. You can find cute looks that go anywhere from the office to a bridal shower to a walk at the park. It is one of the pricier boutiques where the original prices can be high ($100 for a shirt or $200 for jeans), but I was able to find a reasonably priced beach hat here the other day. It was priced at $25...very reasonable. But...it was on sale for only $8! I need their clothes to have sales like that too, and you will probably find me living here.

Soca is what you want from every boutique shopping experience: a nice range of clothing styles and…read morebrands, excellent customer service, and a great location! I wandered into Soca after having some less than pleasant shopping experiences at other stores along the street and was surprised to be warmly greeted and assisted. The store has lots of options but is supremely organized and the staff is beyond helpful with assisting you while shopping. I didn't expect to find much because the window displays left me thinking they would only cater to really small sizes, but that wasn't the case. I ended up having quite a few items placed into a fitting room. The fitting area is relatively small but the attendant was awesome and event helped me decide which pieces to buy. Ugh, I couldn't believe I was THAT person who picked up 10,000 things not expecting them to work then having to make some decisions when they all did. Soca is definitely on my list of places to stop during my next Birmingham visit!

Same for the shoe department that had the most hideous shoe selection that I have ever seen. A total waste of retail space, but that seems to be the common denominator at The Summit anymore.

They had some fun games and were giving out prizes like gift cards at the door. The woman running the cornhole game has a future in cruise ships. Gus Mayer is one of those legacy Birmingham stores that you make your lovely Grandmother take you to to shop at. They have all the nice brands and an excellent black tie gown section if you need something unique and spectacular. My favorite thing to look at here is always the shoes, expect to spend at least $200 on a pair of shoes. But, they're shoes you can't find anywhere else in town. **A note for this year (2025): they had a pair of shoes I wanted that were from Italy, and upon messaging the brand directly, I do believe I avoided some hefty tariff fees by buying the shoes IRL here. Food for thought. I don't often shop in person at all anymore (I'm a major e-bay fanatic), but being able to go in and try on different sizes is incredibly nice. I ended up getting a pair of jeans and shoes in a different size than what I would have ordered online. They have dresses anywhere from $100-$2k, with all the brands like Zimmerman, Staud, etc. They have Mother jeans and my all time fav jeans brand, Mousy -- which were 50% off yesterday!! The "doorbusters" they advertised online were not the bread and butter of what you come here for. Come to peruse. Shoes and handbags are what I recommend. I see the other reviews commenting on the friendliness of the staff... I get it. My thoughts: these are the women of Mountain Brook here to secure their employee discount. Don't hate the player... The also have fine jewelry, makeup, and fragrances. If you need a fancy gift, definitely check them out.
