Gus Mayer is one of those legacy Birmingham stores that you make your lovely Grandmother take you to to shop at. My favorite thing to look at here is always the shoes, expect to spend at least $200 on a pair of shoes. But, they're shoes you can't find anywhere else in town. **A note for this year (2025): they had a pair of shoes I wanted that were from Italy, and upon messaging the brand directly, I do believe I avoided some hefty tariff fees by buying the shoes IRL here. Food for thought. I don't often shop in person at all anymore (I'm a major e-bay fanatic), but being able to go in and try on different sizes is incredibly nice. I ended up getting a pair of jeans and shoes in a different size than what I would have ordered online. They have dresses anywhere from $100-$2k, with all the brands like Zimmerman, Staud, etc. They have Mother jeans and my all time fav jeans brand, Mousy -- which were 50% off yesterday!! I saw several cute blouses and accessories in the midst of all the jeans. I was quickly greeted and assisted by a team member who pulled four different styles of jeans for me to try. I'm only 5'3 and often have to get my jeans altered for length, however, all of Madewell's jeans fell in just the right spot. I ended up getting two pair, one of which was on sale for only $14.99. I love how comfortable they are and consider this purchase a good wardrobe investment.
