Stopped at Johnny B Goodes for an açaí bowl with my brother who is extremely allergic to nuts. We were served the bowls which included granola on top, my brother took a few bites and realized there was almonds and walnut in the granola. No where in the store was there a label or sign that stated there was nuts in the granola. We alerted the staff and they had to physically check the granola to see if there were nuts in it because they had no idea. They were not apologetic. Nut allergies are very serious and should be taken seriously. The situation was rectified but the staff were not helpful or apologetic. read more

Johnny B Goode proudly serves Breyer's Ice Cream, which, to me, is like a cell phone store proudly selling flip phones. Still, if you're in OC and not stopping by the boardwalk, it's a solid choice for bad calories and a break from the heat. I was craving a root beer float during yesterday's scorcher. They gave me the extra root beer in a Mug can, so that was nice. At $4.70, I thought it was a bit pricy. I mean, let's be real: I could buy a whole carton of Breyer's vanilla and a 2 liter of Mug root beer and make my own -- for much cheaper. So, for this place, it's all about location. And that they have -- it's one of the first places you see when you reach the island. read more

We stopped here last night for dessert after a long day on the beach and boardwalk. JBG shares space with a donut shop. Honestly, I wish the donut shop was open when we were there. The donut selection looks amazing! We went with 2 cones. One banana and one cookies and cream. Both were very good! The ice cream was fresh and delicious. The prices were fair for a place down the shore. My only complaint would be the wait time is long! Only 2 girls working with a long line. We will return! Solid 4 stars. read more

Really good ice cream and friendly service! They have a ton of ice cream options and milkshakes, sundaes, etc. I'm a sucker for a chocolate dipped cone with sprinkles which they always have. Their homemade birthday cake ice cream is one of the bests. Slightly expensive (but isn't every ice cream place at the shore!!!!) BUT they make up for it by giving huuuuge scoops! I can neither refute nor corroborate Kathleen D's claim that this place proudly serves any particular type of ice cream because number one I don't care and number two the girls working there said they had no clue where it came from. Like most everything in OC: 1. If you're looking for gourmet-foodie type nonsense you've clearly come to the wrong place because that's not what's being rendered here or more or less anywhere on the island. 2. Of course the prices are whack. It's in season "island pricing" at a place which is only open seasonally. Usually if a place is only open seasonally that tells you all you need to know about their prices. We came here twice two weeks ago to get a compare/contrast thing going on compared to Scoop Box which is less than a block away. Overall JBG has higher prices, more or less serves the same basic flavors verbatim and other than offering a lot more in terms of sundaes and things on the periphery there's little difference between the two shops. In terms of the pricing, for two small milkshakes and four other single scoop ice creams the total was around $30. Would I pay that at home? Hell No! But at the beach it's hard to find it for less significantly unless you're just heading to ACME. Overall JBG is nothing out of the ordinary and at best it's a decent place to go if your rental is nearby. But I certainly would not go out of my way for anything they're rendering as the competitor up the street is doing the exact same stuff for less with the exception of the non-gimmicky décor. read more

LOVED their ice cream I got the cotton candy and it was so cute! It had pink and blue swirled in it, and I get this flavor a lot when I get ice cream but this ice cream shop definitely had the best one out of all of them. The workers were very sweet and the shop itself is very appealing on the inside. Parking was a little bit annoying, but once I figured it out it was no biggie. Also, I believe online it says they close at 12:00 am but they actually close at 11:00 pm. All in all, I definitely recommend this place if you wanna try something new. read more

I'm writing because neither of the previous two reviews matched my experience. The place was very clean and the wait staff (both young and old) were attentive and prompt. We went for breakfast because we did not want to wait for an hour on Sunday morning at Uncle Bill's, and were pleasantly surprised. My father and brother both had breakfast sandwiches on bagels that looked great, while my mother had a basic breakfast platter (eggs, homefries, ham, english muffin). They forgot the english muffin and when we pointed it out, the manager was very apologetic when bringing it by. Finally, I had what they called a "Montecristo" but it really was "French Toast Cinnamon Bun." It was very sweet and tasty, although not other-worldly. In short it was a good place for a quick decent breakfast, much better than the other reviews indicated. PS: They only take cash! read more

We went after we say the line at another ice cream parlor out the door as around the block. At first we thought it was closed, since no one was in the parking lot. Once we got in, what a surprise! We had some very good desserts, served by attentive and pleasant wait staff. My youngest got a fruit smoothie but did not like it and they gave her an ice cream cone for no charge! Ice cream was yummy and enjoyed by all. While nice inside, it was not as cool as the last location on Asbury that burned down a few years back. We will be back! Love this place! On Tuesdays there is karaoke and Thursdays is a dance party. We make sure to not make plans on those nights because my son wants to go. (He talks about it all year). The owner really cares about her place. She's always taking to all of her customers and creates such a fun, safe atmosphere for the kids. read more

This is my first review in what I can only call the "Eating Tour of Ocean City". Been here on vacation several times but never bothered to write reviews of the local eating establishments...but now that will change. We arrived late Saturday afternoon and by the evening needed a treat. Checking all the local menus we found Johnny B Goode's and headed out. The decor is a little cliche but whatever, I just wanted some ice cream. They had all the choices you could ask for including hard pack and soft serve. Also, the menu branched out with some pretty amazing looking frozen delights. The rest of the family had traditional deserts such as hot fudge sundaes and soft serve with candy mixed in. They all said it was good. However, my eye caught the waffle sundae section of the menu. I ordered a waffle hot fudge sundae. The girl made a fresh waffle right in front of me and topped it with ice cream, hot fudge, and whipped cream. It was an amazing combination! The waffle was wonderful and would be a fantastic breakfast but once topped with ice cream, it was to die for. I guess it goes without saying that I love ice cream but this place is much better than the other local ice cream joints especially if you want something a little different. You can get a cone anywhere. I saw several other reviews commenting on the poor service but I did not experience that. Wait staff were all prompt and courteous. I highly recommend Johnny B Goode's if you're in the Ocean City area. read more

Everything about this place was just okay. They proudly list on their website to ask about their gluten-free offerings, but when we did the very nice young woman working had no idea what was gluten-free. They were out of several flavors, and it was early in the day. The atmosphere was clean and the cashier was friendly enough - but with so many awesome ice cream spots in OCNJ it's unlikely we'd be going back, even considering the proximity to our house. read more

Good ice cream. Awesome sundaes. Clean and friendly, but holy cow is it expensive. Took family of 7. 4 adults 3 kids cost over $50 and we only had 1 sundae. The rest were just cones and dishes. There are at least 3 other ice cream places within a block or 2 for half the price. read more

I am very confused as to why this place received such negative reviews. My family has visited the 34th location for three summers and the staff was always professional and friendly. Mostly all girls they seem to be ages 16-19. When the owner is around, she is very welcoming and takes the time to speak to her customers. The prices are reasonable for the island and the place is always clean. The Las Vegas comment seemed very dramatic. We usually go three to four times a week and it has never smelled like smoke. Perhaps it was a customer before you. Before 34th street opened, we traveled from our 40th street home to the fourteenth location. Both locations are great but we have found the employees to be friendlier and more welcoming than those at 14th. Give it a try! So much variety and entertainment for the kids. read more

Disappointing. Way overpriced, even for a beach town in the summer. We ordered the Hunka Hunka Chocolate Sundae and paid $8 after tax. For our $8 we got the brownie, toppings, and one scoop of ice cream. The menu said it was supposed to be three scoops. Had it been as described, it would have been worth the price. The sundae was good, but not as described on the menu. And since that was our only experience here, we won't be back. read more

Over priced but what do you expect in a tourist town? Lots of different options as far as sundaes, milkshakes, Gelato, flavors of ice cream, etc. Everything on the menu is named after a 50's reference. We got 2 sundaes and a small cup of vanilla with jimmies and our total came to over $20 which I thought was expensive. They have outdoor tables where you can eat your ice cream. We didn't want to hit the boardwalk that night so this place was pretty convenient and we got our sugar fix! And they're open late which is always a plus (I think until at least 11pm, if not 12). read more
