Mocktails on the happy hour menu! Thank you! We've been here on a few occasions, but for this visit, we came for social hour and there are a few things we were really impressed about with the social hour menu. The number one thing that really impressed us was the mocktail of the day that they had on the social hour menu! As non drinkers, we often comment on the lack of mocktail options on happy hour menus so we were extremely pleased to see this as an option. Not only that, the drink offered tonight was well crafted and delicious: a sparking, tea-based, citrus drink that was refreshing and well thought out. Another special touch is the addition of two dessert options on the social hour menu as well! While we love coming here for dinner, Primrose has moved to the top of our list for Happy Hour due to the Mocktail option, the delicious food choices (we loved the brussel sprouts and the steak tar-paccio.), and dessert in the social hour menu. Service is friendly but not stuffy or pretentious. We will definitely be back for both dinner and happy hour! read more

Went in for Happy Hour at 4:30, most of our party ordered the burger, as well as the potato and onion dip, steak skewers, salads and raw oysters. Took about an hour to get our food, so that could be improved. The burger was delicious, as was everything else we ordered (salad was ok). Ordered 2 of the desserts, the peanut butter one was really good. The chocolate brownie had too much cinnamon for us, but the Dulce ice cream was really good. Our waiter was fine, however the woman refilling water was quite pretentious, wouldn't look at us, or respond in any way, it was an odd experience and unfortunately even though the food was good, this is what I remember most. read more

Phenomenal find - reservations a must but we were able to grab a seat at the bar. Friendly attentive service where all hands pitch in to your needs - very observant staff. Food was unique and tasty. Chili Relleno was most unique I've had. Brussels were inhaled - great crisp and bite to them. And the lamb pasta was just perfect. We will be back next time in the area! read more

Went for the Happy Hour, it was fabulous. Staff was wonderful, too. It's really a nice place.

We read several reviews about this restaurant and made a reservation for 7. We waited 15" minutes after our reservation time to be seated. The waiter Charles was gracious and apologized for the delay. We ordered and within 20" minutes we were all served. The bread and mushrooms were excellent appetizers. Our meals were cooked completely and correctly. The taste were amazing. The dessert was complimentary because of the late start. The service was excellent, water glasses always full and staff very friendly. I would highly recommend and we will return when the opportunity presents itself. We had a really lovely dinner here during happy hour. The steak tip skewers and the 10oz Denver steak with mashed potatoes were delicious and more than enough for the two of us to split. Truly the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. And I can't forget the ice cream sammich. I wish I had a photo, but we devoured it too fast. Service was also great and very attentive. We were very excited to try this place on our stop through Steamboat, particularly the duck three ways. Unfortunately they just changed their menu a couple of days before. I didn't find their cocktail list to be very exciting, their seasonal gin & tonic contained pimento. We ordered the potato leek soup, Chilean Sea Bass, braised short rib, with the bread service and the pan fried mushrooms. This was more than enough for three people to share. Hands down our favorite was the potato leek soup. Velvety and smooth with a nice depth of flavor. Loved the bacon cheese pomme frite addition. The Chilean Sea Bass was a bit disappointing though. Being my absolute favorite fish, I was excited, but it really lacked seasoning and flavor. And I wasn't expecting the bed on olives. I knew it had some but it was quite substantial. Fish was cooked well though. The braised short rib was good. Nothing amazing. Enjoyed the polenta but couldn't taste the horseradish at all. The service here was phenomenal. What an amazing experience!! Sara and I came in for dinner after a girls ski day in Steamboat. We didn't have reservations which was a bad idea but we waited patiently while they found us a couple seats at the bar. The head chef or possibly the owner, not sure, came over and said they would definitely get us some seats if we could just hang out for a bit. Everyone was so nice and made us feel so welcomed instead of making us feel bad for not having reservations. We grabbed a couple of dirty martinis from the main bar and hung out for a bit. Once seated at the cozy little bar in the back we had an amazing time. The bar staff was so friendly and everyone gave us lots of positive attention. This is one amazing staff. Now the food.. we were feeling bougie so we ordered the chips and caviar, oysters and table side steak. I'm not a big meat eater but when in primrose this is what you do!!! And it did not disappoint. The chips were actually potato skins and the sour cream mixture with the chives and topped with the caviar was divine. The steak was melt in your mouth and the check comes over and cuts it for you table side with some smoke effects. It's a big to do!! The sommelier came over allnd helped us with our wine bottle choose for the evening because they have quite an extensive and amazing list. All in all this place rocks and we saw all walks of people in there. It can be super casual or really fancy which ever you're in the mood for all are welcome!! read more

We accidentally ended up here for their "social hour" and loved everything we tasted. We started with the Brussels sprouts and steak bites and ended up ordering the steak bites two more times! We were excited to taste a new bourbon they had just gotten in, Eagle Rare 12 year, and it did not disappoint. Excellent food, outstanding service, (shoutout to Nick!) and a beautiful location. Haven't really had the chance to deep dive into all that Steamboat has to offer, however, Primrose looked promising. From its interior decor, wine selections, and entrees, it looked like it would not disappoint, and it certainly didn't. Upon entrance, there is bar seating to the left with enough televisions for watching anything. With three tv's, it looked like one tv for every two bar seats. Too the right of the entrance is another type of bar seating, but one that not many restaurants provide, the Chef's Table, where there is an open viewing to the chefs and cooks preparing your meals. For the meal we had the Primrose Salad ($14), which was basically an arugula salad drizzled with vinaigrette and a bit of cranberry sweetness. That was an appetizer to the main dish, medium rare 14oz Ribeye Steak ($61) with a side of Miso Creamed Corn ($12)... Oh my goodness, that steak was incredible. Perfectly juicy from every meaty and fatty bite. They served it sitting on a house sauce which was delicious in itself, but certainly could have been fine without. Can't forget to mention that the creamed corn was a perfect compliment to the steak. All in all, it was very good. Come without reservations, sit at a high table, chefs table, or like we saw, plan a party with a big group. Primrose was a great choice. read more

What can I say about Primrose except that it's the best restaurant in Steamboat. We went for 3 nights in a row: the first two for happy hour specials and the final night to experience their full, table side steak experience. My wife and I ate here during our Sept 2025 visit to Steamboat. We started with a salad which was good. She had the Duck Two ways. The duck was rubbery and seemed rare. Alas, I've been wanting to dine here the last 18x we've been to Steamboat, CO, but always end up elsewhere. Or we have kids in tow that want pizza...so finally we made it and it was everything I expected, PERFECTION! If you want a hot date with the spouse or partner, take them here and bedazzled. Peaches & Burrata: helluyeahhhhh! I am not typically a fan of fruit in my food, but I do love burrata cheese and I was willing to make an exception. I am so glad I did! This app was delicious, as you can tell from our licked clean plate! While I mostly ate the ball of burrata, the peach touches were perfect. This is one app not to skip on. We almost did, and I am so glad we didn't. Primrose Salad: it has Primrose in the title, so it has to be great, right? It was! It was all the right balances of bitterness from the arugula, the citrus from the dressing, the tart from the cranberries, and the crunch of pistachios. Honestly, we may have had a fork match over this one. Again, pictures are telling and we didn't leave much. Wagyu Denver Steak: now for the best part! The steaks on the menu caught my eye, and I wanted to try the 28 day Aged Prime Black Angus, but the smallest cut was 32oz. My back up was the Wagyu Denver Steak. Yeah...it was one of the best steaks I've ever had. Perfectly med-rare, porcini crusted (even if you don't like mushrooms, try it porcini crusted, trust me!) added a nice edge to it, and even the simple side of green beans were perfect (not over or undercooked). The demiglace was subtle, did not take away from the flavor of the steak. I highly recommend this steak! Farmers Market Pasta: this is vague on the menu for a reason, because it isn't always the same. This one was a fresh pea and mushroom mix, tossed with chitarra pasta and a blended pea/mint/basil sauce. Oh, and we added the prawns to this dish, and those were so big and juicy! A nice touch to this dish. Oy Vey, I need a cart to roll me outta this place! Mushroom Medley: the side dish of mushrooms was bland and boring, in comparison to the rest of our dinner. Sweet Corn Ice Cream & Warm Cookie: as if we could stuff more in, being Iowans, we HAD to try the sweet corn ice cream. It. Was. Awesome! Not like it sounds, exactly, it's more like a French vanilla ice cream on steroids. You just have to try it, and apparently they're known for their chocolate chip cookies. We can see why! Just...you just gotta try this, too! No room for anything else, I had to go home and lay down after that meal, but it was worth every calorie. It's not a cheap meal ($300 for the two of us) but you're also at one of the nicest places in Steamboat so don't skip on Primrose; I promise you won't regret it! read more

We're full-time Steamboat locals who have supported Primrose for years -- sometimes dining here multiple times a week. This is an honest review from regular, local customers who make a point to support Steamboat's small businesses. Primrose is the definition of pretentious without substance. We've been here many times, and every single visit ends the same way: rushed, dismissed, and treated like we're a burden instead of paying customers. This last time was the nail in the coffin. The second we finished our main course, the staff started slapping down the bill without asking if we wanted anything else -- a not-so-subtle "get out." Each time we ordered another round of drinks, the bill magically reappeared. To be clear, we only ordered two rounds of drinks after our main course -- one was essentially our dessert course -- hardly excessive. Finally, they flat-out told us we had to leave because they "needed our table" for an 8-top -- even though the restaurant was half empty and no one was waiting. As proof of how absurd their excuse was, OpenTable happily let us book an 8-person table the minute we walked out. Translation: they just wanted us gone. And then there's Collin, the owner. Let's be honest -- unless he sizes you up as socially or financially "worthy" and you're willing to play the brown-nosing game, you don't exist to him. He struts around like he's running a Michelin star spot, when in reality he's alienating the very locals who keep his place alive in the off-season. Arrogant, dismissive, and completely out of touch. When we finally told the waitress that Primrose disappoints us every single time, her smug response was, "Well I think that's an exaggeration." No -- it's the truth. The service here is cold, the atmosphere is uncomfortable, and the entire place runs on ego, not hospitality. Bottom line? Primrose doesn't just fail at hospitality -- it mocks the very idea of it. We're done wasting our time and money here. Steamboat has too many restaurants that actually appreciate their customers. Primrose deserves to be empty. read more

We were astounded at our short experience at this place that we heard mixed reviews about. Sadly we didn't stay even long enough to try a cocktail. There was confusion on the phone about our reservation and they couldn't seem to answer our questions. We didn't have a good feeling about the way they spoke to us on the phone yet still decided to go in and give the place a chance. Seeing that we weren't locals it was obvious we were not welcome. Walking into this restaurant it felt like we were the butt of some joke. As the waiter greeted us and asked about us and where we were from (Four questions trying to figure out exactly where). It was obvious he was trying to make us feel bad about ourselves and our touristy activities. To be honest it was very blatant he was making fun of us. We had such an icky feeling, at that point we mutually agreed we didn't trust them making our food or drinks. We left the restaurant feeling bullied. We have never left a restaurant before and it definitely put a damper on our trip. Overall it seemed the manager and staff lacked maturity in the whole situation. read more

In Steamboat this week and had to find some good places to eat. Although we intended to eat more off dinner menu we went with some happy hour food deals. Got the chips and dip, streak skewers and the burger. We also got the bread and butter service that was a must. Overall was excellent on food, service and ambiance. We sat outside which maybe was a tad warm but it was great. Cal took great care of us and all staff were routinely filling waters and clearing plates. 2 small things to improve maybe a little salt in the dip with the chips and skewers were pretty small so don't want to think that is a filling appetizer (although flavor was excellent)! read more

Let's get this out of the way: this place is very expensive, but I'm not going to base my review on price now that you've been forewarned. A glass of white wine is $15, an appetizer of 4 shrimp is $17, and an entree of duck two ways is $60. Make your dining decisions accordingly and know what to expect. That said... the service, drinks, food, and atmosphere are all great here. My friend and I enjoyed our night immensely. ATMOSPHERE Very classy vibe, but not pretentious. A bit loud inside during the busiest times -- so more geared towards a friends' night out or small group dinner vs. an intimate date on those busy nights (in my opinion). Outside seating is beautiful and a bit quieter -- perfect for nights with good weather. DRINKS Loved the cocktails here. Expertly made. I had a Thai vodka cocktail that was the perfect amount of Thai spicy, passion fruit tangy, and simple syrup sweet. I would say the wine selection is a bit on the basic side, but perhaps do be expected from a mountain town. Still some very good options there. FOOD Great flavors and presentation all around. We were big fans of the grilled prawn appetizer and the peaches & burrata. Couldn't suggest any improvements. The duck 2-ways special was absolutely delicious, and paired with a huge pile of beautiful foraged mushrooms and delicious grits. Maaaaaybe the leg was slightly overcooked/dry, but the breast was perfect. We had a party of 8 on Friday night. We had an 8 pm reservation we. The restaurant called to let us know the table was running late. They would try to accommodate us on time but weren't sure what that would be. We arrived on time and the hostess let us know the table was still running behind, but that the check would soon be delivered to the table. We were not seated til 8:30. No one offered a complimentary beverage or a complimentary appetizer.. lots of sorry but nothing was offered for our trouble. We ordered drinks and appetizers. It took quite a while for the appetizers to arrive. Every one ordered steak except one of us had the pasta. Sides were mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. A couple of us at the table thought the potatoes taste strange but most people liked them. I just felt like they had too much better and too much salt. One person wasn't happy with the cook on their steak, but everyone else thought the steak was amazing. The brussels sprouts and the Onion dip appetizer to me were the stars of the show. For a high price high end restaurant, I felt like they should've done something to make up for the reservation. read more

So fun. We went with another couple. Had some salads as starters: the other couple shared an arugula based starter and we had the bib with green goddess. The kitchen split our salads which was a more lovely touch, and I'm a sucker for a good green goddess dressing. This one was a good one, if only a tiny bit over dressed. We each started with a cocktail, martinis (vodka or gin) and old fashioned. Earlier in the week, I'd suffered through my only bad cocktail in steamboat at another establishment so I especially appreciated this well crafted cocktail. I like my gin martini extra cold with flecks of ice on top, and that's how it was served. For entrees, we went with the meat locker, which our waitress suggested as what Primrose is known for. We selected a 32 ounce strip carved table side. It was served with a compounded butter and pattypans. We also added a scallop dish to share (added one scallop so everyone had one). And assorted sides. Omg, one of the best meals of my life. Granted, we were in a resort town on vacation and loving life, with great company. However, in any other city or town, I'd stack this meal up and it would compare well. The steak presentation was so fun. It came out in a smoky done (I've seen this for a smoked cocktail but never a steak). I almost wish we had more meat, though it was plenty. The plates were piping hot, so we could melt the compound butter. The scallops were amazing. Huge luscious day boat scallops served on a Tim yum risotto. It had big enough flavors that it wasn't overshadowed by the steak. Dessert were coffees and some picks. I'm never much of a dessert fiend but had a few bites. I enjoyed them but happily nursed my wine. The service was outstanding. We had a young lady who brought water who had personality (when I complimented her earrings, she shared her bf got them from pnw), and our waitress Shea had the perfect amount of attention. The restaurant itself was lovely, with the famous meat locker in a corner. We sat at a high top, which I'm normally not a huge fan of, but I can't say I minded here. Nice first visit to Primrose in Steamboat, but a few things could be improved. Glanced at their menu(s) online the night before, and they were accurate and up-to-date. (I once went to an out-of-the-way NYC restaurant because online indicated they served a certain dish that I wanted to try, only to discover when I arrived that the menu online hadn't been current for over 6 months! Therefore, part of my criteria since then was that your menu AND PRICING online has to be accurate or an automatic reduction of one star). Quinn was my delightful server. Calm and knowledgeable. I mostly ordered according to her suggestions so I must have missed it in the actual menu where they indicated they were going to force add a LWD surcharge to every bill. Their three letter acronym stood for Living Wage Disparity, I assume it was only for the kitchen staff, but I'm not sure because it's entirely up to the restaurant operators to determine how the funds are actually dispersed and in this case, were somewhat cryptic. I'm also not sure why spending $75 would only yield a $2 charge for the kitchen, with no way to increase the amount? Other local establishments allow you to write in a gratuity for the kitchen staff as well as a separate one for the serving staff. Would most diners actually leave less than $5 or not leave anything at all for the kitchen? I hope not, but I suppose this is a very small step toward a living wage in a resort town. Anyhow, I arrived for Social Hour Menu (4-6pm Daily, some nice different menu items plus you can still order from the Dinner Menu) but without a reservation. Their menus clearly indicate which items are gluten-free and there seemed to be quite many options for those looking to dine there. After some discussion with the hostess, I was seated at the Chef's Bar which was very nice for a single guest and I was the only one seated there so far; and it was right across from where the food prep was occurring, giving an introvert something to actually watch from time-to-time instead of pretending to be constantly glued to their phone. There was no acknowledgement from the nearby kitchen workers when seated, which was fine, but as they worked they discussed UTIs in some detail. While I personally didn't mind, it did seem odd to discuss this while they prepped so near to the public? First round, on a lark, tried a Lockhart Martini ($13, very strong for a rare martini drinker, but very smooth. I enjoyed the stuffed blue cheese olives) and the Local Lamb Meatballs ($18, 4 small but extremely flavorful. A little bit of a kick to them, but that didn't overwhelm overall. The sauce was described in a way that made me think it would be better. It wasn't bad by any means, just too subtle, in my opinion). At some point on of the worker's finally said hello and we briefly chatted as, I assume, Chef had just arrived. Chef also didn't acknowledge any of the now half a dozen guests seated at "his bar" but shouted over it toward a random table that a doctor was seated at that he knew. Chef never checked in with the closer diners while I was there. I'm okay with that, but a curious choice in hospitality. Closest to me was ongoing oyster prep, and I must say that the entire time I spent at Primrose, every food worker wore and constantly changed black nitrile gloves on any hand that touched food. Nice! There were about 6 guys prepping and one lady that night, with the opposite blend for serving staff. After ordering, I went to one of the large single restrooms. In the room was a large sink, a toilet, a urinal, a spectator's chair?, and a cool container of mouthwash with disposable shotglasses on the sink counter. Classy! When I returned, I discovered that Quinn had replaced my haggardly folded cloth napkin, with a fresh one. Very nice impression! 2nd Round arrived: Spiced Pear Martini ($16, Quinn tried to steer me to something else to accompany my entree, and she was 100% right! There was nothing wrong with this second martini, but it definitely would pair better with a perfect Fall day than with a burger necessarily. I did find the spiced pear to be more my style than the Lockhart, however purists are likely to prefer the opposite). The Primrose Burger ($15, It was pretty charred but still flavorful. It had lots of toppings and was accompanied by fries + ketchup). Finale: I ordered a Dr. Pepper to cap off the evening with the Ice Cream Sammich dessert ($7, very nice blend of ice cream and a cookie that was both crispy & chewy). Again, Quinn tried to point other there were additional dessert options on the Dinner Menu, but I wanted to stick with the Social Hour Menu. It was too much food for one person after two earlier rounds, but it was tasty. I love how they present the bill! Enjoyable dining, with very nice food/drink options. Had a wonderful time at Primrose with my daughter who is 10. For fine dining it's refreshing that Primrose is so kid friendly. My in house dry aged steak was phenomenal and was served with this most amazing butter. It was to die for. My daughter had the kids steak with fresh cut French fries. Both were cooked to perfection! We were a walk in party of four and they couldn't have been more accommodating. Christopher took great care of us at the bar while we waited for our seat in the open kitchen bar. The manager, Meg gave an on point wine recommendation that paired great with our lamb bucatini. Our server Sash was incredibly educated on the menu and steered us in all the right directions on what to order. Did a girls weekend in The Boat and went to Primrose for happy hour Saturday night. We sat outside and the weather was perfect. Great food and drinks for a reasonable price. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. We ate a lot of oysters (which were small and delicious), steak tartar, split the burger (which was amazing!), and more. I got the spritz of the day, which was gin & grapefruit juice topped with champagne and was glittery! The others had dirty gin martinis with blue cheese olives. After hearing from friends about how amazing this place was, my boyfriend and I finally decided to give it a shot. They have a great social hour menu that we ordered our entire meal from! Started with a drink, then shared the shrimp and steak tartare as appetizers. For dinner we each got the Primrose Burger with fries and everything was phenomenal.
