It is my understanding from talking with locals that this place started out as a BBQ trailer, moved onto this location and opened in a manufactured home with the big side porch, which has now been enclosed. This side porch can still be opened up when the weather is good, and climate controlled when it is not. There is a large graveled parking lot with designated handicapped parking places. That's the facility, but the main attraction is the food. The menu goes back to the original concept of BBQ. There are impressive ribs, smoked chicken wings, brisket, pulled pork, and the like. However, there's more than that. There's been some new features that have been added. One of these is the Clintonian Club. Yes this is a club sandwich, but it's served on a large flakey croissant! There's a number of options like this when one wants something other than BBQ. If you find yourself in Clinton, stop by Big J's. It's a great place to have a fresh local meal served by friendly and helpful folks.

Service is friendly and efficient. A stage area is available for bands and karaoke. I had a burger and fries and friends had the catfish speciality, or loaded nachos. All were reasonably good. Prices were competitive. Sweetened ice tea was available, but unsweetened was not. Bottled water was available, but served at room temp. If you're looking for fancy, Big J's might not be for you, but a good sampling of local cuisine is available. Barbecue might be the best choice.

We decided while driving through Jackson this weekend to check them out. I didn't recall ever seeing it before, so couldn't place exactly where it was. It is a local convenience store, so I figured I had to have seen it before. When we figured out where it is, we realized we HAD seen it before, but had no idea based on how it looks, and the name, that it's actually a convenience store. We pulled in, and I have to admit, I was less than impressed, and figured this would probably be a "one and done" situation, but we were there, so we went in. It's a bit "divey", but it wasn't as bad on the inside as I thought it would be. We came in and they greeted us. We went to the counter to order our burgers. The food is made to order, so you need to be prepared to wait for a little bit. While we waited, we walked around the store. I have to say I did NOT expect the wine and alcohol selection they had in there! I saw things I've never seen before, and the prices were actually better than where we usually go, so I can see myself stopping in again for that alone. Our burgers were ready fairly quickly, and since there isn't seating to eat inside, we ate them outside in our vehicle. The burgers were really large, and though it didn't look fantastic, they were actually very tasty. The fact that they were huge and only $4.99 each was an added bonus!
