Staff was friendly and welcoming to us as first timers. We got the bell rung for each of us and a complimentary keychain! Accommodating to having kids, by splitting up 1 meal into separate containers. Fast service Clear menu Free guacamole & gum for everyone. Get the Slushie! Long history of business. A local spot for regulars and visitors. *located in the basement food shops of Wells Fargo Businesses Building & connected to public parking garage. Thanks for a great lunch with good portion sizes!

I cannot recommend Johnny Burrito enough! It was my first time going, and I was welcomed with a free newcomer bottle opener. This was the best burrito I've ever had. Highly recommend the firecracker chicken. Also loved the various sauce/salsa options, and free queso on any main entree! Do not be scared of the long line, it moves fast! A++++!

This place has been on my bucket list since forever and I've finally made it here!! We came right before opening and there was already a line so I knew it had to be good. For new comers, they ask if this is your first time and if so, you get a bottle opener keychain and a spiel on how to order. They're super patient for your first time so don't be intimidated. You can add anything onto your burrito at no extra costs -- yes, even guac!!! There's a couple of salsas that you can ask to get at the end to top off your burrito and you can't go wrong with any of the options. The burrito was super filling, but didn't feel heavy, flavorful, and the service was also top notch. You can tell that they truly care about their customers. Would highly recommend you check this place out as it's definitely a Charlotte staple, you won't be disappointed!

Johnny Burrito is an uptown local staple! The decor is filled with local news, old signs, etc. I see something I haven't seen before every time I go. The line is long at lunch hours but it goes by pretty quickly. If you're in a rush, go right when they open or a bit before they close. You'll be greeted here and if you're a first timer, you'll get a walk through of ordering and a bottle opener key chain. All employees I've interacted with are friendly and efficient. Johnny is on the cashier often, and you'll be charmed by his character! There are themed candy days like Fireball Friday and Twizzler Tuesday, where you'll be handed this when ordering. My go to is the regular burrito with firecracker chicken. Don't forget to add in queso and guac - included in your burrito price. I also ask for a side of Johnny's Ranch (chipotle ranch) and Diablo sauce (hot sauce) to put on my burrito every couple of bites. I rarely leave without a "house red" (cherry sundrop) slush. You won't be hungry after this meal and if you haven't visited - go now!

I was recommended this place by a coworker since I was visiting from out of town. Great food and the staff takes the time to explain their process to "rookies" while you wait in line. Fun, small environment in the store, definitely can't sit down and eat in the store during lunch but there is plenty of seating on the floor above or in the plaza on Tryon St.

I fell in love with Superica when I first moved to Charlotte nearly three years ago, and it quickly…read morebecame one of my go-to spots for reliable, flavorful Tex-Mex. But I have to start with a small heartbreak: my beloved puffy taco is gone. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where the puffy taco was created, and it's deeply nostalgic for me. It's not a sope, not a tostada--it's a true puffy taco, light, airy, and unlike anything else. For a long time, Superica made one that came remarkably close to what I grew up with. Unfortunately, after changes in leadership and kitchen management, it quietly disappeared from the menu. That was a real disappointment. That said, I still come back--because the food here is consistently good. The crispy tacos with picadillo are my current favorite. Picadillo (P-I-C-A-D-I-L-L-O) is a traditional Latin dish with many regional variations, and this version reminds me of the one my grandmother used to make in San Antonio. The portions are generous, the flavors are balanced, and the menu offers something for everyone--from enchiladas and chile rellenos to steaks and fresh tableside guacamole. Speaking of guacamole, I'm a purist. I like it simple: avocado, jalapeño, cilantro, lime, garlic--chunky and clean. Superica delivers on that. The chips and salsa are bottomless, the salsa has great depth of flavor, and for those who like heat, they offer a tiny dropper of hot sauce that is smoky, bold, and absolutely not for the faint of heart. The ginger margarita is another standout. It comes with a generous piece of crystallized ginger and has a bright, balanced flavor that makes it easy to order a second one. And if you have room for dessert, do not skip the tres leches cake--rich, decadent, and a perfect way to end the meal. I also appreciate the little touches here: * Friendly, knowledgeable waitstaff * A lively bar area that's great for happy hour * A beautiful outdoor patio that makes al fresco dining feel special * And a fun tradition of sending you home with a packaged Texas praline This South End location is my personal favorite. It feels more adult and relaxed, while the Strawberry Hill location tends to be more family-heavy. Both are good, but the vibe here suits me better. Yes, prices have crept up a bit--as they have everywhere--but the quality, consistency, and atmosphere keep me coming back. And as someone who travels frequently for work across multiple states, I appreciate that Superica maintains a dependable standard wherever I encounter it. Bottom line: Even without the puffy taco, Superica remains one of my favorite Tex-Mex spots in Charlotte. Come hungry, bring friends, share plates--and as always, travel safe and eat well.

It was really loud for me and could only hear the people next to me. Ordered some drinks and they seemed to be backed up as it took awhile, but their cocktails were very good and yummy. I do like their family style of chips and salsa, especially the spicy green sauce in the bottle. However, it would be nice to have some spoons to share the salsa for the group. I had the cheese enchiladas and it was really delicious. The enchilada sauce was tasty. The rice and beans are also family style and was a nice addition. I did try the chorizo queso and it was a bit too watery for my taste. Service was great and would be back for the Tex Mex food here again.

She's giving hospitality like you don't get anywhere else. She created a welcoming environment by telling the story behind the restaurant. They are family owned and very big on sustainability. The staff as a whole were very welcoming. My son and I ordered some drinks. He had a house special Margarita, at the recommendation of our host. I had the Old Oaxacan which is similar to an Old Fashioned. We also shared a Butternut Squash Tamale and man it was delicious! For our main course, we both went with burritos. I had the Surf and Turf Cali Burrito and my son had the Shrimp Burrito. They both came with a side of rice and beans. The burritos were huge and full of flavor! We both were able to have half of them for lunch the next day. Two meals in one...you can't beat that! We ended the night with a dessert recommendation of one of there seasonal flan. It made you want to kick the spoon afterwards. I really loved the vibe of the place and look forward to dining there again. Major props to the staff for making our evening so enjoyable! See you guys soon!

Not sure about all the buzz this place gets ... while it may be trendy, for us it just missed on…read morebeing authentic Mexican food. Mal Pan is sort of like "nouvelle cusine" but applied to Mexican food ... more about presentation than the food itself. At the risk of sounding like an overwrought Midwestern foodie, we thought the portions were small, the prices were high, the food was just alright, the rice and beans presentation was silly, and the margaritas were more show than go. And chips and salsa, priced at over $5 for a serving, seemed a bit over the top since most Mexican restaurants offer that free. An example of the nouvelle cuisine: they have fancy butternut squash and sweet potato tacos, but no real tacos made like mamá or mami used to prepare. The rice and beans that come with most meals were presented in the form of yin-yang symbol in a tiny saucer ... couldn't have been more than a tablespoon of each ... come on, it's rice and beans not frankincense and myrrh. The highlight of the meal was the waitstaff, attentive without being intrusive. Don't think we'll be back.
