As soon as I was seated, I was brought a basket of fresh-baked bread with a dipping mixture of olive oil, butter, and seasonings. The server was quick to take my drink order -- I chose a sweet tea, which was good and not overly sweet. I enjoyed the bread while looking over the menu, and wow -- it was incredibly fresh, with a very flavorful dip. They were also on top of refilling the bread as soon as I ran out, which I really appreciated. The menu had a lot of great options, but the lasagna really stood out to me. It comes with unlimited salad, but I opted out. I requested no Parmesan cheese, extra ricotta, and a side of sautéed mushrooms. While waiting for my food, I had a clear view of the kitchen, and it was honestly enjoyable watching the chefs cook and plate everything so smoothly. You could tell they took pride in presentation. When my food arrived, I was very pleased with the portion of mushrooms -- and they were delicious! Perfectly seasoned without being overpowering. The lasagna came with a generous amount of sauce and meat, and they got my order exactly right: no Parmesan and EXTRA ricotta. There was cheese in every bite, plenty on top, and the sauce was full of flavor. The meat had a slight kick to it, but in a good way. I haven't tried Johnny Carino's in a really long time in Baytown since they left Beaumont. I wanted Timballa (sp.). The server was training, she said she would find out if they could make it. Guess this restaurant has become a Mexican eatery. We ordered a salad and calamari. I would guess they assumed both my wife and I would like Jalapeno peppers in this. WE DON'T eat hot peppers. VERY disappointed. We used to go there in the early 2000's (right after they changed theyre bar to crafted beers. Loved that and their calamari.) We won't be back unless things change. I was a little weary after reading some of the negative reviews but the price and location made our party of 9 give it a try. We are happy we did! The lunch menu offers tons of value. We were surprised to learn they had a BOGO special on Pastas, so some of us gave that a try. Others enjoyed their Burgers and Pizza. I had the Chicken Parmesan with pasta and my wife ordered the Grilled Chicken Bow tie Festival. We actually were pleasantly surprised with both. Each had the flavor profile we expected and the right portion size for the price. We were both very happy with our order. My son liked his kids pizza. Kids menu doesn't come with a drink but does include dessert. He was a happy boy. What stood out was the service. Our server, Josh, was a true professional and really took care of us. He was patient and funny. He made sure it was a special visit for us. I am glad to see there are locations near me in San Antonio so I will be visiting those soon. I purposely chose this place to celebrate an occasion, but ended up regretting that decision after dining at the bar for all-day happy hour. The food was fine, but things went downhill when the bill came. I was charged full price for a pizza, even though I had ordered from the happy hour menu. At no point was the regular menu shown or referenced, so when we asked about it, the bartender Karla simply said, "Oh, well, the happy hour pizza is 3 slices and you had 6." Yes, we were served 6 slices, but I would never have agreed to pay $18.99 for something I didn't knowingly order. We asked for the manager, and per my own suggestion, the "compromise" was to charge us for two $7 happy hour pizzas instead. Honestly, even that felt like too much given the confusion. On top of that, we ordered the $4 happy hour margarita, but were served and charged for the larger $6 version without being asked. It was another small moment that added to the feeling that we weren't being listened to or respected as customers. Looking back, I'm not as upset about the extra $, it's more about how the situation was handled. Rather than offering a sincere apology, the bartender just said, "We weren't on the same page." We overheard her explaining things to the manager, but by then, the experience had already ruined. This was supposed to be a simple celebration, but unfortunately, it didn't feel like the right place to celebrate anything. Not a favorite memory--and I'm not in a rush to return. read more

OMG, I haven't been to Johnny Carino's in years but my mom got a bag coupon for free food, so we decided to give it a try. Yeah, should have stayed away. We had the ribeye steak over pasta and lasagna plate, and it was horrible. The steak was probably about 3 oz worth of meat (not exaggerating) and it looked like it was burnt left overs from a previous streak cooked Before. The server was a good kid. Very pleasant demeanor. The service was slow...glacial even. It took like 20-30 minutes for the bread to come out and at least one of the loaves wasn't done in the center. Went last week, got to our table and walked out. Smelled like public bathroom in the entire restaurant.

Arrived around 8pm on 06/14 for dinner. Dinner was good but the location is not. We got to our car to realize it was broken into. Called 911 and they said we need to get camera footage from the restaurant. We go to the restaurant and the manager of that time said they don't have cameras. We go outside to see there are cameras but they aren't giving us footage. There were two police close by who we called over who were taking care of another incident from the same parking lot/area. The police try to get footage from us but the shift manager said they don't have any. The shift manager and our waitress told us that people around this area break into cars. If this is so common, why don't they have cameras? I'm sure they do and aren't giving the footage to be considered liable because we saw the cameras. If someone slips outside or if their restaurant is broken into, do they just do nothing? With the amount of employees working and just my family along with two others, they made it suspicious with how they were saying it happens. One mentioned a homeless guy, another saw a guy in a white shirt, and someone said there was a car parked that left at the same time. No cameras, lots of different stories from employees, and mentions of that happens a lot. I could be paranoid but I'm also suspicious they might know more. read more

I honestly wish I could write a review without any stars for this place. Me and my son went here for lunch on Saturday with the thought that I would get my meal for free as a birthday reward. Well, upon arriving, there were only two cars in the parking lot. I immediately thought this place must not be good, and I was actually right. We placed our order that came ith salad for free but my son wanted soup, and the fee is .99 cents, so we stayed with the free salad. The salad was just a bowl of lettuce with a few bits of carrots and petite tomatoes, the lettuce was not fresh and tasted bitter, the dressing was on the edge of my bowl that was not a nice look, we didn't eat the salad. The waitress asked of we wanted some soup with no fee. My son got potato soup, and I just waited for my entree. He got spicy shrimp and chicken penne pasta, and I got lasagna. He said his meal didn't taste good and had a bad smell. The lasagna was not good, the tomatoe sauce tasted like paprika and it did not stand on the plate like lasagna should. My son felt like he was going to throw up after tasting the lasagna. I said well let's go and we went towards the door where our waitress and possibly the chef, I told them we were done and was leaving, neither of them mad any apologies we just walked out the door and will never go back. Me and my mom go in and we split the Mommas Spaghetti Feast and the portion size is so big it can feed 3 and all for $23. You can't beat that. The service is great too! We told our waitress that we were splitting the meal and she had the salad and entree split into 2 portions in the kitchen for us without us even asking. In addition, the "LARGE" pizza is a size of a $1.50 frozen pizza from the grocery. PLEASE see pictures for reference! As far as the lemon cake, you are better off going to the grocery store and get some Little Debbies! God, these taste mediocre AT BEST! You would think they would have some kind of quality control. Took my oldest great granddaughter for dinner tonight. She chooses Johnny's for our meal out when we are together. The food tonight was really good! She ordered roasted garlic potato soup and chicken fettuccini Alfredo and Italian lemon soda. I had lemon pepper salmon and everything was delicious. Angela was our server and had taken care of us when we ate here the last time. She is an excellent server, great attitude and smile. Always makes sure to read the order back to insure accuracy. If this is their recipe then someone should be held accountable for ruining this dish and charging $14.99 for it! I don't like doing what I did but I had them remake this with an actual grilled chicken breast cut up which didn't have any flavor not to mention the lack of parmesan cheese flavor in the Alfredo Sauce. We have dined here on several occasions (Baytown Location)and each time we have tried something new and each time everything was great. Our server Brandon was AWESOME!!! He was very attentive and really took the time to get to know his customers and make suggestions. I really like how honest he was about menu items and would go find the answer if he couldn't answer us. Whatever we needed he got it for us with a smile. The lasagna was a bit salty for my companion but it was fine for me. The chicken Alfredo tasted like sandwich meat and black pepper. So the waitress was ok she wasn't bad but she wasn't great. For an "upscale" restaurant, the restroom was just missing writing on the walls to look like I was in a bar. This just gives me the image of them not maintaining cleanliness through the restaurant.
